cain is strong from the basic earlygame set of characters, but azazel is the strongest. then you git gud and realize the lost is actually the strongest because he turns into a glass cannon very easily.
azazel is cool but i think the lack of red heart containers and range can limit his potential
You definitely want the easier access to high range for the toughest challenges like delirium

Cain is just the "good stuff" until you unlock Isaac's D6. No bad gimmicks, just good pills and stats. Can't even get health down and go down to 1 hp which is why Apollyon can't take pills.

Lost is held back by the randomness of the ed6 and you may just not get anything that works with perfection. Can't play sacrifice rooms either. Gets pretty strong a lot of the time, but dies miserably the other 10% unless you're going a braindead easy route like Chest.
any tips for tracking dead god progress on other save files? I've wanted to finish my other ones but I always forget what I've completed beyond the completion marks
the only way to do without external help that is the godawful secrets page and looking up which secret number goes with what achievement

delirium is a boss created by nicalis spaghetti code that ultimately boils down to random bosses teleporting around while shitting out bullet circles with no concern for how these overlap, causing instances of unavoidable damage while also being just hard from this combination on top of the 10,000 health points with boss armor
I've 99%'d Isaac, I just need to do maybe 15 more dailies for the month of dailies achievement and then that'll simultaneously trigger Dead God. I just haven't felt like loading up to play and, when I do, I'll actually want to play them. I think you can get the achievement just by loading up dailies and then dying, but I don't want to do that.

I have it mostly memorized but you can go by hidden items/achievements. Aside from marks you need the daily challenge stuff, all challenges, huge growth, vurp pills, super bandage/meat boy and some other obscure ones I can't remember. I would start going through the item list and just checking every ? item to start

Just wait until you unlock the paperclip trinket as a starting part of Cain's kit. It lets you open gold chests for free.

I never found the random circles an issue. its -ALWAYS- teleporting directly on top of me
