It is multiplatform. I played both of them when they came to PC. Pirated both of them too. So I have no buyer's remorse or anything.

I got horizon and assassins creed: Cassandra edition and I couldn’t play them for more than a few hours. There’s a special kind of soullessness that Ubisoft has mastered that I can’t quite explain in words. I didn’t feel that way when playing FF7 Rebirth even though that game superficially shares some elements traditionally found in Ubisoft open world games.
I genuinely enjoy the games. I'm going to buy Forbidden West on PC once I upgrade because right now I have a potato by contemporary standards. I can still run ZD pretty well, all things considered.
I have never once been interested in any of the playstation slop that has been ported to PC. Just because it stopped playing playstation exclusive doesn't mean it started being good. I also don't want the Demon's Souls demake, I'd probably purchase Bloodborne to replay it on PC but only if it's not a Bluepoint remake.

Every primitive tribe and Far Zenith have women in positions of power but the entire plot is how they are dumb and need Aloy for fix everything. Men barely exist in the plot outside of generic merchants.

You don't have walking/talking segments in Horizon games. I swear no one who shits on these games ever played them. Aloy's controls are never altered for any of the gameplay segments. You can just run past walking/talking even when you have an npc alongside you for some of the missions.

I played around 10 hours and it already felt repetitive, there is no point to explore because there is nothing to gain or anything fun to see, maybe hunting challenges were sometimes fun.
moronic crafting which is just busywork to pad the game length, getting 10 bear foreskins to have bigger inventory etc.
But if you will just stick with main story you will be underleveled and underpowered in result. I didn't also like those stealth sections at all but human enemies become damage sponges at higher difficulties, it's a mess.

Have you even visited a single cauldron? They are all pretty unique. Same is also true for tallnecks because they are all different puzzles. Only bad side activity in both of those games is human outposts imo. Even collectibles such as flowers or banuk toys wants you to engage in either some basic platforming or combat along the way.

You don't interract with most characters. Characters in ZD were introduced and either died or disappeared until the final mission. There is only one character you interract with throughout the game in ZD and that's Lance Reddick. He's the best character in both of the games though.
Forbidden West focuses more on characters. But this time story is worse because you don't have the mystery of first game. Characters themselves also has small screen time.
Main allure of the series is world and gameplay imo. Even writers are aware of that and that's why they set up another robo hunting adventures for the end-game and 3rd game. First game time travels you back before the final mission while FW continues after you finish the main questline.

I played this game for like 12ish hours when it was free for PS+. It was literally one of the most boring and generic open world I've ever played. Ubisoft towers, checklist of boring shit to collect, meaningless crafting survival shit, mind numbingly awful NPC's and quests. The enemies and having to take them down in specific ways was like the only cool thing about it. I seriously don't understand the success around these games. They're about as creative as Days Gone and that got shit on for pretty much the exact same things. Is the setting and robot dinosaur enemies really enough to lift it up for people?
I enjoyed zero dawn when it came out for the novelty of it, I liked the parts-based damage on the creatures, I liked the crafting system (as tedious as it got towards the end), I liked the world (not the story, the story was filled with holes).
I still haven't tried the second because as much as I enjoyed the first, I still only played it cause it was $1 a day for a weekend from redbox.
Eventually when the second is free or something I might give it a go, I don't have a PS4/ps5 anymore so I can't play that.

New combat overhaul is great though. It really fixed the repetitiveness of ZD's combat for me. I wish we got more than just 2 new weapon types though. Also DLC weapon feels underbaked.

I did. It has 1 enemy type, you kill all the enemies same way. Go for headshot. Weapons you get are just same weapons you got during the beginning with different stats. Outfits are meaningless due to half baked survival mechanics, only mechanical progression you get is with your horse, and even then the best horse is locked behind a side quest, epilogue makes it worse since you lose your abilities and you lose the best horse if you decided to get it before character sawp. It made me unironically appretiate Ubisoft games more due to how boring it was.
I've played both, they're just soulless Ubisoft games. There is absolutely nothing interesting about them, not that it's a big shock when the only other games they've made were Killzone titles, another series with zero originality.

I just wish there were real color schemes. I hate that at least half of the dyes are "pink and teal" or barely change the colors. If I'm wearing Utaru armor made of woven leaves I would like natural color schemes. I like the Oseram Striker outfit but the dyes barely change it, I want a rusty red one.

Yeah I guess it's my autism. I don't like Aloy wearing 40 pounds of armor while climbing/running/sliding so I tend to go for the Utaru or cloth costumes. Some of the heavy armor looks cool just impractical.
I like the Tenkath Dragoon but the options are >normal, multiple colors layered >everything is uniform black >everything is uniform green

I actually finished Forbidden West on Friday.
The important parts are a downgrade from Zero Dawn.
It's graphically nicer. The world is much more filled out with "stuff". Getting around is easier.
Machines have more complexities about them, do more things.
However holy frick the story is just worse. The pacing is awful. They pull things out of their ass and you're left asking "But why?" most of the time and they just hand-wave things.
It's like every time they try to explain things, they do it in a terrible way.
The entire game reeks of self-righteousness.
Everything is just explained away by "well he had a big ego and was a narcissists."
Aloy is insufferably self-righteous compared to the first game.
The gameplay also feels MMO-Lite but without any of the MMO benefits.
So much gear with little differences which try to sell you as "Have the right equipment for the right moment!" but with 4-5 upgrade tiers each there's a ton of grinding for the sake of content.
Ammo not being universal is a huge sin. There's no reason why my Ice blasts work only on 25% of the items.
There's tons of side quests at the very least that are mostly unique. However I don't know why they made so many categories for them. It makes no sense.
But god the story. I looked it up and it's the same fricking directors. There's no fricking way it was the same guys calling the narrative shots. It feels so differetnly done than Zero Dawn.
Overall a frustrating playthrough. It ended so terribly. I had no satisfaction with that ending.
Haven't done the DLC.

Oh and the climbing was inconsistent. I had to use "yellow-vision" because one slag of rocks was climbable, but another slag of rocks was not.
The skill trees were a bit of a mess. I did lot sof side content so by the end I had most of it filled out, but it was just spread way through thin. Especially since they dedicate non-passives with weapon skills for weapons you don't use.
There's too many types of weapons whereas anything that isn't quick isn't useful. Enemies charge at you and are on you so fast that you generally don't have much time to do anything mid-battle.
How is it MMO-lite? Hitboxes are slightly better, enemy tracking is MUCH better, enemies also has plating to take care of now with more than just 2 weaknesses and weak parts. It's less rock-paper-scissors compared to ZD, you can use frost on enemies who are strong against frost for example, you don't have to use fire against enemies who are weak against fire, you can initiate knockdowns on enemies if you don't have an ammo type suited to fighting against them.You don't have Scorchers who can leap accross the whole map just to hit you, new enemies are pretty good and old ones were also buffed. It's only more grindy for legendary equipments. I don't like new gear system btw, but at least BS fixes that. BS legendaries are nowhere near grindy.
It's a guilty pleasure. I love fighting robot dinos, I like playing games with great graphics, but holy shit the story is bland and the characters are boring.

What's bad about that besides the facial animations? Do you only play games with 100% mocapped cutscenes? FW had them but side quest stories were worse than ZD. It doesn't make or break a game.

Yes, play some Monster Hunter to see how similar they actually are. Biggest difference besides melee and ranged focus is the fact Aloy isn't janky to control. She is extremely responsive/fluid compared to MonHun characters with many animation cancels. Almost feels like a character action rather than monster hunter type game.
I liked Forbidden West but have no interest in playing the first one, I imagine it's more of the same.
ZD is FW with worse gameplay but better story. It's also smaller/shorter.

Zero Dawn was a very pleasant surprise. Forbidden West was more of the same and a lot of the novelty had worn off, in addition to Aloy just being way more annoying in general and the map being littered with far too much side crap.
If aloy was hot I'd play it. Unfortunately she looks like nikocado avocado. There is a reason nikocado videos are not 40 hours long, nobody wants nikocado on their screen for 40 hours.

New combat overhaul is great though. It really fixed the repetitiveness of ZD's combat for me. I wish we got more than just 2 new weapon types though. Also DLC weapon feels underbaked.

I did. It has 1 enemy type, you kill all the enemies same way. Go for headshot. Weapons you get are just same weapons you got during the beginning with different stats. Outfits are meaningless due to half baked survival mechanics, only mechanical progression you get is with your horse, and even then the best horse is locked behind a side quest, epilogue makes it worse since you lose your abilities and you lose the best horse if you decided to get it before character sawp. It made me unironically appretiate Ubisoft games more due to how boring it was.
If you don't like monster hunter style gameplay with spending minutes to take down a singler enemy then sure, they will look awful to you. But it's very well made. Hitboxes are tight. Enemy attacks are varied and every enemy type is different.

I bought Horizon for my PS4 around release. The idea looks really cool and I was sold entirely. But the tutorial was a boring like 2 hour slog and I dropped the game shortly after realizing how cutscene based the game was.
I just want to kill robot dinosaurs in cool ways while exploring a dead world.
What some dumb c**t and her tribe have to say about the state of the world or whatever is shit and does not matter to me what so ever.
Make a cut of the game without dialogue and story and I'll play it.
It's not as bad as shitposters make it out to be but it's also nowhere near as good to warrant all the praise it gets IMO.
It's a visually impressive game, with okay gameplay and a boring protagonist.
For me it's a 7-8/10 on a scale where 5 is average, not the IGN scale.
It's nothing like BotW. I don't remember Aloy's bow breaking after 2 shots and having to find new bow every 2 seconds. I also don't remember Aloy stopping every 3 seconds to breathe due to stamina system. I also don't remember Horizon having 1 bokoblin enemy type for 100 hours of it's duration.

It's more interesting than any of the other Ubisoft towers. Better than holding analog stick onwards and holding R2 for 30 seconds before reaching to the tower's top. Forbidden West also has different types of them. One of them is literally reviving a dead tallneck back to life. One of them is using ballistas to bring it down.
What's funny is that I actually really liked the first game. I liked the setting, the big robot fights, the quests were simple but got the job done, and the ending story reveals were genuinely interesting.
Something about Forbidden West just felt like an endless chore to me by comparison. Partly because the mystery of the world is already resolved. And far more emphasis is put on Aloy's new ragtag team of friends, but they don't actually do anything outside of following along for one or two big story missions.
this tbh, I completed everything in HZD but I petered out halfway in FW. I think it was in large part due to how grating Aloy and her friends were.
The most interesting characters in HZD are Sylens (who you barely see in Forbidden West) and the ones who already died working for Zero Dawn.
So the only character I was really interested in during Forbidden West was Aloy's clone/sister Beta. But her whole role just feels like she's there to tell Aloy how much cooler she is by comparison.

Dude, the combat is extremely repetitive with the only useful weapon being the bow since it does pretty much everything the other weapons do but better since you can just reliably aim at weak points, sure you could use a trip caster and stun an enemy after figuring out their path but you could also just shoot them from afar. Better yet you could just shoot a thunderjaw with the control arrows and watch it attack everything around it and exploration is abysmal with very little of worth to actually find other than the things needed to hijack machines but you don't really need to do that, you get horse jacking during the story if I remember right and that'll get you to every fast travel point in the game making it useless after you get enough and it's not like every other open world game where you get a dedicated mount/vehicle you can call/summon from just about anywhere, you need to find one, hack it and then make sure it doesn't die, it's tedious.
For an open world game that's horrible, it means there's no real reason to play other than the story since you've seen just about everything in the first five minutes of the game. You don't even really get new abilities as you go either, sure you have level up skills but from what I remember other than knocking more than one arrow they're all very situational or just beaten by basic combat.
And that's why the game is shit.

It has more enemy types than open world games Ganker loves to slurp with the exception of Elden Ring. Shooting alone takes skill due to lack of aim assist even on console and arrow travel time and great hitboxes with extremely small magnets. Open world isn't designed to waste your time, it's designed to give you enemy farming spots, that's why it's littered with camps. Enemies are aggressive and Aloy is extremely fragile. Pressing R1+R2 to overcome every 30 seconds for 40 hours isn't repetitive but basic shooting gameplay with strong fundamentals is repetitive, yeah nah.
Forbidden West also plays nothing like Zero Dawn when it comes to bow and arrow.
Hunter bows : Dedicated tear weapon with shit damage, you will have a hard time playing it like it's ZD.
Sharpshoot bows: High damage with extremely slow windup time, you can't shoot in the air or while sliding either.
Warrior bow: Pistol/Shotgun, fast damage dealer with shit range and accuracy.
Your damage dealers in FW are blastslings/spike throwers, knockdown mechanic, enemy weapons etc. That's why people had a hard time adjusting to FW compared to ZD.
If you enjoyed it enough to play over a thousand hours of it than it's not trash to you. I know this site is incapable of sincerity, but you don't have to filter every opinion you have through a veil of bitter nothingness because you're afraid to plainly talk about something you actually like.
Just because you enjoy eating shit doesn't mean you should, or that it is good for you. Same principle. I can be objective about the quality of the things I consume.
It's just another formula open world game designed to be just fun enough that you won't just turn off the console if you have nothing better to do. There is objectively nothing good about it and it will be forgotten in 5 years. There will be no remaster. Just like most modern media, consume then forget, just like that cracker.

I tried with Horizon. I really did. I sunk about 12 hours into that first one before calling it quits. Genuinely I think the only reason why anyone "cares" about the franchise is Sony. If nothing was changed about the game but said "Ubisoft" and was multi platform, people wouldn't fricking care about it.

I got the game for free, finished the main story on hard and still felt like I wasted my time. It was such an awful game.
I got horizon and assassins creed: Cassandra edition and I couldn’t play them for more than a few hours. There’s a special kind of soullessness that Ubisoft has mastered that I can’t quite explain in words. I didn’t feel that way when playing FF7 Rebirth even though that game superficially shares some elements traditionally found in Ubisoft open world games.
I finished the first game when it came out and it was and still is easily the most milquetoast forgettable game I have ever played
I genuinely enjoy the games. I'm going to buy Forbidden West on PC once I upgrade because right now I have a potato by contemporary standards. I can still run ZD pretty well, all things considered.

Even the repeating side activities such as tallnecks or cauldrons has their own layouts and puzzles, there is like 5 of them per side activity too. They don't become repetitive unlike Ubisoft games with 30 synchronization points or 30 outposts.
I like Horizon more than Elden Ring, not sure how I would compare it to Nier though.

I played around 10 hours and it already felt repetitive, there is no point to explore because there is nothing to gain or anything fun to see, maybe hunting challenges were sometimes fun.

Have you even visited a single cauldron? They are all pretty unique. Same is also true for tallnecks because they are all different puzzles. Only bad side activity in both of those games is human outposts imo. Even collectibles such as flowers or banuk toys wants you to engage in either some basic platforming or combat along the way.

You don't interract with most characters. Characters in ZD were introduced and either died or disappeared until the final mission. There is only one character you interract with throughout the game in ZD and that's Lance Reddick. He's the best character in both of the games though.
Forbidden West focuses more on characters. But this time story is worse because you don't have the mystery of first game. Characters themselves also has small screen time.
Main allure of the series is world and gameplay imo. Even writers are aware of that and that's why they set up another robo hunting adventures for the end-game and 3rd game. First game time travels you back before the final mission while FW continues after you finish the main questline.

I played this game for like 12ish hours when it was free for PS+. It was literally one of the most boring and generic open world I've ever played. Ubisoft towers, checklist of boring shit to collect, meaningless crafting survival shit, mind numbingly awful NPC's and quests. The enemies and having to take them down in specific ways was like the only cool thing about it. I seriously don't understand the success around these games. They're about as creative as Days Gone and that got shit on for pretty much the exact same things. Is the setting and robot dinosaur enemies really enough to lift it up for people?
I enjoyed zero dawn when it came out for the novelty of it, I liked the parts-based damage on the creatures, I liked the crafting system (as tedious as it got towards the end), I liked the world (not the story, the story was filled with holes).
I still haven't tried the second because as much as I enjoyed the first, I still only played it cause it was $1 a day for a weekend from redbox.
Eventually when the second is free or something I might give it a go, I don't have a PS4/ps5 anymore so I can't play that.

I loved Zero Dawn but I just can't get into FW. The new story is uninteresting and all they did for gameplay was add a bunch of new shit that makes it feel laden with needless clutter. Graphics and world are gorgeous, though.
New combat overhaul is great though. It really fixed the repetitiveness of ZD's combat for me. I wish we got more than just 2 new weapon types though. Also DLC weapon feels underbaked.

I did. It has 1 enemy type, you kill all the enemies same way. Go for headshot. Weapons you get are just same weapons you got during the beginning with different stats. Outfits are meaningless due to half baked survival mechanics, only mechanical progression you get is with your horse, and even then the best horse is locked behind a side quest, epilogue makes it worse since you lose your abilities and you lose the best horse if you decided to get it before character sawp. It made me unironically appretiate Ubisoft games more due to how boring it was.
I've played both, they're just soulless Ubisoft games. There is absolutely nothing interesting about them, not that it's a big shock when the only other games they've made were Killzone titles, another series with zero originality.

It's graphically nicer. The world is much more filled out with "stuff". Getting around is easier.
Machines have more complexities about them, do more things.
However holy frick the story is just worse. The pacing is awful. They pull things out of their ass and you're left asking "But why?" most of the time and they just hand-wave things.
It's like every time they try to explain things, they do it in a terrible way.
The entire game reeks of self-righteousness.
Everything is just explained away by "well he had a big ego and was a narcissists."
Aloy is insufferably self-righteous compared to the first game.
The gameplay also feels MMO-Lite but without any of the MMO benefits.
So much gear with little differences which try to sell you as "Have the right equipment for the right moment!" but with 4-5 upgrade tiers each there's a ton of grinding for the sake of content.
Ammo not being universal is a huge sin. There's no reason why my Ice blasts work only on 25% of the items.
There's tons of side quests at the very least that are mostly unique. However I don't know why they made so many categories for them. It makes no sense.
But god the story. I looked it up and it's the same fricking directors. There's no fricking way it was the same guys calling the narrative shots. It feels so differetnly done than Zero Dawn.
Overall a frustrating playthrough. It ended so terribly. I had no satisfaction with that ending.

Oh and the climbing was inconsistent. I had to use "yellow-vision" because one slag of rocks was climbable, but another slag of rocks was not.
The skill trees were a bit of a mess. I did lot sof side content so by the end I had most of it filled out, but it was just spread way through thin. Especially since they dedicate non-passives with weapon skills for weapons you don't use.
There's too many types of weapons whereas anything that isn't quick isn't useful. Enemies charge at you and are on you so fast that you generally don't have much time to do anything mid-battle.

How is it MMO-lite? Hitboxes are slightly better, enemy tracking is MUCH better, enemies also has plating to take care of now with more than just 2 weaknesses and weak parts. It's less rock-paper-scissors compared to ZD, you can use frost on enemies who are strong against frost for example, you don't have to use fire against enemies who are weak against fire, you can initiate knockdowns on enemies if you don't have an ammo type suited to fighting against them.You don't have Scorchers who can leap accross the whole map just to hit you, new enemies are pretty good and old ones were also buffed. It's only more grindy for legendary equipments. I don't like new gear system btw, but at least BS fixes that. BS legendaries are nowhere near grindy.

i tried AC origins recently as my first AC and i was surprised it was as enjoyable as it was regardless of the repetitive nature after a couple dozen hours. are either of them worth pirating?
I kind of enjoyed AC Origins as brainrot open world slop but after 10 hours of trying I was still completely unable to find it within myself to enjoy Horizon

Yes, play some Monster Hunter to see how similar they actually are. Biggest difference besides melee and ranged focus is the fact Aloy isn't janky to control. She is extremely responsive/fluid compared to MonHun characters with many animation cancels. Almost feels like a character action rather than monster hunter type game.

It's more interesting than any of the other Ubisoft towers. Better than holding analog stick onwards and holding R2 for 30 seconds before reaching to the tower's top. What's funny is that I actually really liked the first game. I liked the setting, the big robot fights, the quests were simple but got the job done, and the ending story reveals were genuinely interesting.
Something about Forbidden West just felt like an endless chore to me by comparison. Partly because the mystery of the world is already resolved. And far more emphasis is put on Aloy's new ragtag team of friends, but they don't actually do anything outside of following along for one or two big story missions.
this tbh, I completed everything in HZD but I petered out halfway in FW. I think it was in large part due to how grating Aloy and her friends were.
The most interesting characters in HZD are Sylens (who you barely see in Forbidden West) and the ones who already died working for Zero Dawn.
So the only character I was really interested in during Forbidden West was Aloy's clone/sister Beta. But her whole role just feels like she's there to tell Aloy how much cooler she is by comparison.

Dude, the combat is extremely repetitive with the only useful weapon being the bow since it does pretty much everything the other weapons do but better since you can just reliably aim at weak points, sure you could use a trip caster and stun an enemy after figuring out their path but you could also just shoot them from afar. Better yet you could just shoot a thunderjaw with the control arrows and watch it attack everything around it and exploration is abysmal with very little of worth to actually find other than the things needed to hijack machines but you don't really need to do that, you get horse jacking during the story if I remember right and that'll get you to every fast travel point in the game making it useless after you get enough and it's not like every other open world game where you get a dedicated mount/vehicle you can call/summon from just about anywhere, you need to find one, hack it and then make sure it doesn't die, it's tedious.
For an open world game that's horrible, it means there's no real reason to play other than the story since you've seen just about everything in the first five minutes of the game. You don't even really get new abilities as you go either, sure you have level up skills but from what I remember other than knocking more than one arrow they're all very situational or just beaten by basic combat.
And that's why the game is shit.

It has more enemy types than open world games Ganker loves to slurp with the exception of Elden Ring. Shooting alone takes skill due to lack of aim assist even on console and arrow travel time and great hitboxes with extremely small magnets. Open world isn't designed to waste your time, it's designed to give you enemy farming spots, that's why it's littered with camps. Enemies are aggressive and Aloy is extremely fragile. Pressing R1+R2 to overcome every 30 seconds for 40 hours isn't repetitive but basic shooting gameplay with strong fundamentals is repetitive, yeah nah.
Forbidden West also plays nothing like Zero Dawn when it comes to bow and arrow.
Hunter bows : Dedicated tear weapon with shit damage, you will have a hard time playing it like it's ZD.
Sharpshoot bows: High damage with extremely slow windup time, you can't shoot in the air or while sliding either.
Warrior bow: Pistol/Shotgun, fast damage dealer with shit range and accuracy.
Your damage dealers in FW are blastslings/spike throwers, knockdown mechanic, enemy weapons etc. That's why people had a hard time adjusting to FW compared to ZD.

Hello, it's me, the one guy that actually played one of these pieces of shit, at no expense to myself. It's a boring piece of shit, and I actually liked Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. I don't mind stealth games. Horizon is fricking boring and has zero redeeming qualities.
