Not even. You get fricking exp from walking into new areas, sidequest, I think field shit like installing probes or interactable objects. This motherfricker has other options choose to kill mobs and complained about it.
Yeah it had multiplayer and online components but it wasn’t an MMO. The other anons were complaining about it being an offline MMO and I’m saying Runescape isn’t.

+ The feeling when you first get the mech and are able to freely explore the world
+ The overall sense of freedom to explore and do whatever the frick you want when you want with minimal gate keeping
- The sidequsts are unfortunately MMO-tier bullshit, yet the majority of them are genuinely and surprisingly well-written.
- The cast of character you can play as is very large and most of them suck
- The battle system never really clicked for me. I read guides on how to game the systems to my.advantage but I did not have the requisite skills because I just played how I wanted to play and picked the class that felt the best to me. I'm genuinely just not a fan of Xenoblade battle systems. They are serviceable at best.
- The online component is rather superfluous, you aren't really missing anything by it being dead in the water at this point but you can sense it's lingering presence
- The interlude chapter cutscenes """Japanese humor""" were cringe
- Plot is pretty much a non sequitur and serves as a backdrop for exploration. "There's something about this planet..."
- Uncanny valley character models
- The Wii U functionality is dumb (as are the resource nodes/whatever it is they had going on down there) and it along with the map/fast travel could have just as easily been in their own menus.
It really feels like it could've been more, but what we got when you aren't looking for flaws is *extremely* good. I actually would not mind replaying it again even though I played it for the first time two years ago.
yeah the world design is absolute top tier to the point I don't think any other game has equaled let alone surpassed it to this day but it's not very fun to play
which is why I really hope monolith's action game is real, imagine their talent for world design with a good combat system
