"It appears that the devastation we brought upon ourselves was complete; Heaven, Hell and Purgatory were atomized as well. So when the soul leaves the body it has nowhere to go, and must remain here in the metro. A harsh, but not undeserved atonement for our sins, wouldn't you agree?"

Played 2033 and I loved it. Great game. Played last light and I couldn't even deal with it for an hour. Totally felt like an entirely different experience, did not enjoy. Am I the only one?

I like Last Light a tiny bit more than 2033 but it suffers even more on subsequent playthroughs than 2033.
Try and stick through it, the walking tutorial that is Pavel is an amazing character throughout the game.

Last Light is worse because it replaces too much of the depressing slavjank with tacticool stealth gameplay in the middle levels. When you're listening to sad guitars and hearing mutant howls in 2033, you spend Last Light crouched and trying to flip the circuit breaker while dodging humans.
        It's still good, I just prefer 2033.

the last light aesthetic, atmosphere, characters etc are really atrocious. and it suffers of severe consolitis

This is how I felt on the first playthrough. When you play a lot of video games you lose all patience for this stupid bullshit.

You're never going to enjoy a game that wants you to "soak up" the atmosphere if you're impatiently itching to progress constantly. You should've just uninstalled tbh.

I enjoy stalker because it just let's me go explore the zone on my own rather than forced cutscenes. Hell, even half life 2 let's you throw garbage around and look for easter eggs during the rare moments you're locked in a room and forced to listen to someone.

I play lots of videogames and like to stew for a bit in their worldbuilding.

honestly same but most games take it to extremes but I had no problem with this game

you're not wrong though but games take ages to get to the point and story in most games is dogshit
it's just devs holding the hands and it feels insulting the longer it takes
and makes me jittery like a monkey

I really hate it too. The industry has innovated and gone forward by removing cutscenes aka your ability to just skip a scene if it's your fourth playthrough and you just want to get to the meat of the game. Now you must stand around and listen to people talk because it's critical to the experience. No don't even put the controller down and have a sip of a drink follow the npcs with your camera yourself bro trust me bro it's better this way.

Amazing. Bit more 'cinematic' than the first but the story's really good imo
    >Exodus
Worst metro game but still a metro game, meaning its still miles better than most other games released that year

What the frick is this guy? An angel? Mutant? Or litterally just a philosopher?
He knows way too much and even the Rangers consider him such hot shit they allow him into their top sekrit base (if they even have a say in the matter, that is)

      >in the games
Some kind of hippie with psychic powers and esoteric knowledge.
      >in the books
Either the reincarnation of Genghis Khan, or actually the spirit of the sentient metro itself manifested into a human body. I'm serious.

I have the original copies for 2033 and Last Light but haven't touched them yet. Got them for free when Steam gave them away. Anyway, were there any changes for better or worse between the originals and the remasters? Do the originals work fine on modern hardware or am I going to need some fan patches?

2033 has the original mode and redux mode (the remaster). Original has a superior artstyle and sound design, but in terms of quality of life and gunplay and optimization and UI it feels very outdated compared to the remaster. The remaster loses a small bit of the soul but it's a much smoother experience.

If your FPS is too high for the original 2033, it becomes impossible for you to fit through some areas. You'd have to limit your frames for those occasions.

That level with the railcar Regina in Last Light was fricking great. My favorite level in all 3 games.

Was like something out of hl2 and it was great.

Played last night redux for the first time recently. Not bad. The Pavel showdown mission was pretty brutal. I can't believe I got the non canon ending, likely because I let Pavel have it. He's such a c**t.

Metro 2033 is only game in series that did justice to post apoc mood of the bombed Moscow, Last Light was action movie, Exodus was like a seasonal(hehe) tv show, only 2033 captures that sad feel of the lost past, just listen to this tune
