It burns me to say this but...I'm sorry to this game.
The PAL/JP version of the PS2 game is indeed better than the shit-ass US version with its completely incomprehensible handling. Fixing that has made this game pretty playable and the visual aesthetic remains pretty cool.
The tuning stuff is a little confusing, though.

I found both versions to be pretty boring. It sucks, because I really like the visuals and some of the music.
Pretty much. Neither version has good physics.
US Tuned is the best version, drifting is so easy.
Generally, I like the PAL version better than US tuned, but is right about drifting. There's also better QoL features in US Tuned, like being about to adjust tuning between races when competing in a series, or the AM Shop being unlocked earlier AND allowing extra tuning for cars with swapped engines. It's a shame that, to my knowledge, there's no golden version of the game with US tuned's features but more PAL style handling.
Yeah but I enjoy racing so.
I drift and I win!
Have you never played Ridge Racer or Touge?
So the meme of the Yanks and the Nascar is therefore true!
I'll concede drifting is easy in US Tuned but I don't want to do that when I'm just trying to race.
I hope eventually someone makes a replacement server for the online multiplayer for the original JP version. Could have a laggy go at it with the 3 other people who own compatible USB modems.
It's on Insignia on Xbox but only the NTSC version unfortunately, that's the only one listed anyway.
the US version was the only one released for the xbox unfortunately. still pretty fun once you get the handling under control though. larger multiplayer races with tuned cars are great.
It is not, any version is a fantastic looking game that plays like ass. Stop reaching, it's not going to magically fix it.
Yep
I wish capcom didnt drop it
If they had made a sequel they could’ve improved a lot
wish some autist would mod the old physics into US tuned or something. the new cars and tracks are fun. unfortunately i dont think more than like 7 people have heard about this game.
Apparently AM on other consoles (GameCube and Xbox) use US tuned as a basis, but walked back the physics slightly. That being said, I tried AM on GameCube, and it didn't feel that different.
probably not enough to make a noticable difference
I have it on xbox and the handling still is complete ass...such a shame
The idea behind US Tuned's handling basically amounts to wanting to change the game to make it harder but not checking to see if that's how a fricking car would actually behave.
They did actually make select events harder in US tuned, but that was largely by inserting one off opponents with much stronger cars than what you would have at that point in the game. Even then, those opponents are still easy, just not laughably easy like the JP opponents.
Just play Gran Turismo 3 or 4, OP.
