doom lets you outrun projectiles because you have the landspeed of a cheetah and the attacks are simplistic enough to bait and avoid, unlike quake which has shit like bouncing grenades and perfect homing missiles that never fricking go away
doom is often brightly colored with stark reds. at worst an area will be light gray techbase. quake is brown.

Quake and Doom are more methodical than nudoom. In Doom and Quake you're encouraged to prioritize certain enemies depending on the situation. This is especially true for enemies like Shamblers, vores and fiends in Quake and Barons and cacodemons in Doom.
NuDoom just kind of lets you do whatever the frick you want if you just go for glory kills to replenish shit.
You still need to prioritize enemies in DE. You don't want to let a Pain Elem live and lob skulls at you if you're fighting in the open, you definitely want to kill Archies ASAP, etc.

If you want to recommend people "Eternal but good", shouldn't you recommend Ultrakill? Turbo Overkill? Uh, Viscerafest? All games based around swapping weapons, dashing around and replenishing your ammo from enemies? So, not like Quake 2 at all?

I played Quake 1 and Quake 2 remasters for the first time last month. Heres my take.
Quake 1 is just 3d doom with shit art direction, a mishmash of mediaval themed, halloween tier creatures, then jumps to aliens and then a final shocker with some jellyfish. Levels are either in a medieval castle or a space station with no inbetween, quite the fricking large gap there. It screams its all just shit made up on the spot and then a story was written later. As a single player game its pretty boring. Guns all feel the same and are essentially faster firing versions of the last gun you got with little variation. I guess the multiplayer really made up for this because this game feels generic as frick. Quake Live protag looks like a doom guy pallete swap, there is nothing unique going on here,

Where have you been all my life? I was sorta hesitant after Quake 1 but thankfully they dropped all they inconsistent slop of ideas put together and came back with a cohesive story, characters and interesting as frick enemies. Very very impressive and aggressive AI in the remaster that quite frankly stuns me today.

I like Doom 2016 enough to want to go back and look for collectibles.
I prefer Doom 1's simplistic map design to 2, but only because a good amount of maps in 2 incentivizes waiting out in fighting with monsters and looking for tile triggers. All the actual new stuff is nice.
And 64 doesn't have the music and for how nice the lighting engine is, it gets so dark it's hard to appreciate anything about the aesthetic.
But Doom 2 is the best Doom with all that said.
