Technological limitations meant they had to prioritize elements like the lighting while neglecting those dogshit tree and grass textures. You don't even notice the bad plants though, you're looking at the crisp shadows.

its really a shame, to me this is similar to MGSV where the potential for timeless masterpiece is there, but they fumbled it

I loved both. Once you get immersed in the world and a mission starts, then that amazing music starts playing as a gunfight breaks out, literally 10/10. So many fricking amazing missions, fighting for your gangs life just feels so raw and visceral. I think the tone of the story is perfect.

spent like an hour walking behind this other hunter, then a third guy joined us and started whistling. if you take it slow and soak this game world in, immerse yourself, there's nothing else in the world like it
the free roam is great. its like they designed it first and half assed the missions and story after that
I loved both. Once you get immersed in the world and a mission starts, then that amazing music starts playing as a gunfight breaks out, literally 10/10. So many fricking amazing missions, fighting for your gangs life just feels so raw and visceral. I think the tone of the story is perfect.

For example most of the “hunting” mechanics are completely pointless and it’s really about cheesing animal spawn points to get certain rarer animals to spawn which becomes entirely necessary if you want to complete some of the challenges or getting 100% without a trainer.

No idea man, been a long time since I played it. All I remember is that I couldn't turn off TAA because many visual effects were dependent on it.
Resolution scale, which is an in-game setting.
Just enable FSR and use the "high quality" setting. Even if you can run it without FSR, you'll get a much sharper image because it disables the AA that makes everything blurry.
The worst part of RDR2 is how it suddenly brought a wave of people worshipping RDR1, when both games are nothing but proof of what a stupid idea it is to have a GTA without vehicles.

The 1 is crisp as frick. Rdr 2 has 10x the visual fidelity but it's also bogged down by filters up the ass which is a crime against humanity

It's the lighting, it looks almost perfectly true to real life. The contrast and everything was just right and perfectly captured the vibe of the west and being outside on a hot sunny day in general.
