The disc launchers feel more like railguns shooting train cars now. I can hit multiple midair easily now. If anything, midairing no longer feels special or rewarding anymore.

I haven't tried the new one, but normally you start regenerating after a while of taking no damage, so you'd impact boost yourself with explosives (dics/nades/whatever) and then start regenerating health half-way through your route towards the enemy flag so you can grab it at full speed at full health
No health regen in the new one. You have to pick up health orbs placed around the map or dropped from enemies.

there is no auto regen so you will be in a disadvantage
what you do is when spawning you go down the hill right below the spawning point, then when going up you spend ALL your energy, and try to land on a downhill, then repeat

It's alright. I don't know the roadmap of waht they intend to do, but if they add in voice commands and vehicles. Things like the shrike can help with chasing and defense, and also give heavies another purpose. I guess having non regenerating HP is a way to limit people to where you have to choose between speed and health.

Right now it's ANYWHERE ON THE BODY and your jetpack is disabled for 10 seconds.

The sniper isn't about killing people except it's really good at that too. The sniper has the ability to disable the opponents jetpack. If you've played TF2 picture pre-nerfed Scout sandman plus sniper's rifle that covers you in pee at the same time. That's what it does. It's actually better than that because it's great at killing people too considering you can fire the shit super quick. They need to make it a bolt action on top of the nerfs I already suggested.
Sniper takes 5+ shots to kill someone. It isn't even hitscan. It's only useful for finishing someone off.

Flying and skiing is the hard part. I'm encouraged that they've gotten it to feel this good in just about a month of intermittent playtesting. That said, you're right, everything else kinda blows. I don't know what possessed them to unveil this playtest with these garbage maps instead of just remaking Raindance. Weapons are pretty fricked up too, aside from the spinfusor, and the hitbox on that is too big to encourage midair "skillshots." But if they're aiming for release in a couple months, they could make something serviceable. If they improve on the things I've mentioned and put in missile turrets, I'll pick it up for $20-30.

If it keeps this game from suffering the shitty F2P unlock grind of Ascend, it's worth twenty bucks. Ascend could have been a lot more successful if they put in the paid unlock from the start instead of trying to milk the freemium market until the game was already dying.
Ascend came from a time when everyone was figuring out the pay2win model. Some games even double dipped like Evolve that was full price plus micro transactions. Things now are hopefully more cosmetic.
Hopefully not in its current state...but with more polish, balancing, and better maps I would gladly pay for it.
Yeah just worried this isn't a real alpha and the devs will try to shotgun release it. I don't think people will buy a tribes game unless it's a token bot/hacker preventative purchase of like $5 or $10. I'd rather they make really cool skins to sell, introduce a mapmaker and sharer, and just sell me on those features. That way when you get tired of playing matches you can go zen out skiing with people on community maps or do challenges or whatever else. Nothing exists like tribes skiing they need to embrace that.

Yep, it's becoming more and more obvious this game is literally unplayable if the enemy have 4 or 5 heavies with their stupid broken weapons camping the base. It would be manageable if the map designs weren't utter dogshit and you could keep your speed after capping instead of face planting the stupid out of bounds zone and losing all speed. Sorry, I'm not interested in learning the min max frame perfect Sonic the Hedgehog tier speedrun routes. Just make better maps or nerf the heavies.
The real problem is that you can't do anything once your base defenses are down. In my experience, someone just slips in and grabs the flag for free by the time you repair one thing.
There's barely any point defending your base with how easy it is to break. Turrets have no shielding so any spinfusor can knock out a turret in just a couple shots and you can do it from across the entire map. Base assets just come down to how thorough the offense is with taking them down because it's so much easier to destroy them than repair, and being anywhere that isn't on the flagstand is a detriment to your team's D.

You had to be there man. It wasn't just 3-2, it was an extremely close last game too. At the time reddit lived rent free in every ones head here. Every other post was reddit this, reddit that, le reddit, you are reddit, reddit reddit reddit le le le. Fricking obsessed. So watching Ganker fricking clutch against reddit was very cathartic because the v vs. reddit rivalry was at its zenith. Also because Tribes Ascend was the single greatest flavor of the month(s) in Ganker history both in quality of game and magnitude. Everyone was playing Tribes. Everyone was caught up in the v vs reddit shitposting and everyone was playing tribes man.
Too many problems I keep seeing reiterated and it really does just feel like they're stealing the design philosophies and assets directly from T:A.
Jets are shit but skiing is too powerful, almost every map is designed where the routes are piss easy to follow and it's almost impossible to ever not build up speed...but building up that speed takes far too long, which in turn makes chasing after cappers nearly impossible because they spent 30 seconds collecting their speed. Maps are also too fricking flat and boring, you can see practically the entire map from any high ground and can never get surprised as a result.
The entire game is purely based around either running at the flag, or sitting your ass on the flagstand. There's no other activities to do and that shitty design philosophy is caused by the appeal to homosexual 5v5 (now 7v7 I guess) comp play. Because of that, every fricking thing needs to be "perfectly balanced" which won't happen but people are going to cry like pussies about how broken X weapon is, whereas in T1/T2 you can have absurdly broken shit like the mortar and shocklance and it's like...yeah frick it, learn to deal, b***h.
In short frick compgays and frick Hi-rez for gutting their second attempt at Tribes with this shit.

The flag chaser perk gives you a free no-damage disc boost and that lets you clear about half the map in one jump.
Does it instantly shoot you up to 300 speed though? Does it help with the fact that every O route is piss easy to follow and they can just effortlessly ski back to their base because the maps are designed TOO well?
T1/T2 had terrain which was mountainous, jagged, difficult to move around and you were guaranteed to get hung up on it. It's easy to pass it off as just being shitty polygonal geometry because of the era, but it actually made the game better. Finding a good cap route was difficult but rewarding, however when the enemy knew the route you were taking they could cut you off or predict where you'd come from and prepare accordingly. And you'd often get stuck in the middle of some mountains and lose all your momentum, leading to scrappy fights around a flag carrier in the middle of nowhere.
I guess what it boils down to is speed is good, but having high speed for the sake of high speed without any difficulty or context behind it...devalues the experience. It's like people designed TA/T3 by listening to what's vocally said about T1/T2, rather than actually being around for those games and playing them in person.
I hope you guys are posting feedback on the discord instead of just b***hing here. I want the game to do well and that's the only way they'll change anything.
