I had a very negative reaction to the art style and everything, but the more I watch the trailer the more OK I'm with it. Like yeah I don't think I'll ever love it but there's a lot of MI1 and 2 in it rather than 3 which I really didn't like for it's cartoony look.
I expect nothing and hope for the best. But if it is ultra bad it's not a problem for me. I mean we already had monkey island 4, it can't possibly be worse than that.

remember Broken Age? back when the kickstarter was announced there was buzz and hype around the project and everyone was talking about it, all that chatter was snuffed the moment the first screenshots came out, nobody talks about that game now
in fact, Double Fine is only remembered as the Psychonauts studio, this despite having a couple of good games under their belt (Broken Age not counted among them)
Broken Age was a pretty good game, even if the ending was rather sketchy.
And importantly, it wasn't a flop, so it isn't really a good example of why a new Monkey Island would flop.
My point is more that we don't know what constitutes a flop or a success to Devolver and Disney. And either way, Terrible Toybox is unlikely to suffer from it's success or failure.

There's a discernible system to the colors, mainly being "we lift the moody palettes from LeChuck's Revenge directly and punch more saturation into the contrast colors. And the main colors. And the fill colors."

I had a very negative reaction to the art style and everything, but the more I watch the trailer the more OK I'm with it. Like yeah I don't think I'll ever love it but there's a lot of MI1 and 2 in it rather than 3 which I really didn't like for it's cartoony look.
I expect nothing and hope for the best. But if it is ultra bad it's not a problem for me. I mean we already had monkey island 4, it can't possibly be worse than that.
That's my feeling. Personal fav style for me is actually MI3, but there are so many great adventure games with shit art (MI4 and MI5 look bad, and to be honest MI1 doesn't look great to me) and this is perfectly workable.

I don't know, other than the sword fight the game doesn't look too bad in motion. The music is on point as well so I dunno, not my preferred art style but it looks okay. It's not the trashfire that escape was. I think releasing so many stills was a mistake because without motion and lights it looks really flat.

You know what, these threads have painted a completely different picture. With the music and VO it feels a lot more comfy and MI. Guess I shouldn't have judged it so easily. Also Elaine actually looks cute in the style so I can only hope she's playable for a large chunk of the game.
Yeah there's no contest. And the writing was so shit. Might not like this angular style but if the writing and jokes are good I won't mind.
Seriously I don't think I've had buyers remorse ever as bad as with MI4, I hated that game lmao.
at least when it does release, it will be reasonably priced

My wife likes the new art style. She's a furry though so take that with grain of salt.
