How good does the game get? I just beat that worm boss in delryk mines, but I'm not feeling the game too much. I thought tales of arise was a much better action game.
>It looks all slick and cool then it's trees for like 90% of the game.
Why don't they just let you hop between planets and you have to use different equipment on different planets to blend in with the locals? that'd be amazing
It's SO's MO at this point. Futuristic crew forced to land in an undeveloped land and do the Star Trek thing of "we can't be futuristic in the current setting" but do it anyways. Then thrown into a war or something.
>at this point
SO has literally always been futuristic societies/technology mingling with underdeveloped planets. The UP3 was the entire plot of SO4 for frick's sake.
>Futuristic crew forced to land in an undeveloped land and do the Star Trek thing of "we can't be futuristic in the current setting" but do it anyways
It's actually fricking funny how 6 called the setting out on this.
>Pretty much all the Kenny's throughout Federation History kept breaking the UP3 >Claude's great great great great great great Grand daughter swears to be a total law and rulegay this time to not be like her rulebreaking ancestors >The bad guys of the game call out heroes on giving them shit for: "muh underdeveloped planet intervention" when the great heroes of the federation before them kept doing the exact same shit >Said grand daughter breaks the rules to stop the people breaking the rules from breaking the rules
Wasn't this series infamous for being LITERALLY a in universe massive online multiplayer game? like the main characters managed to get out from the game, they meet a random kid who tells them "you are game characters!" and they went "nani?".
It's just the usual JRPG stuff of killing the gods and giving mortals true autonomy. But this time with a Sci-fi filter. I don't get why people are still buthurt about this.
All the games are the same bait and switch. >Game begins in futuristic world (first 10%) >Then 80% takes place on some medieval era planet cus you crash landed there or something >Then the final/climax 10% of the game is in the futuristic/space world/galaxy/federation whatever
They all take place on the same timeline, but they're mostly contained. SO2's male protag is related to characters from SO1 (one of whom shows up in the game itself), but the story itself is unrelated.
no but you see anon, the absurdity draws attention to how SPRITEY and PIXELLY they are and it's totally celebrating what you love instead of cynically exploiting with insulting nostalgia 'fanservice' to part you from your money!
My problem with 3 wasn't the twist, it's the fricking rush to the ending and characters like Nel becoming irrelevant.
It's SO's MO at this point. Futuristic crew forced to land in an undeveloped land and do the Star Trek thing of "we can't be futuristic in the current setting" but do it anyways. Then thrown into a war or something.
6 didn't do this thankfully. The MC gives literally zero fricks about it and IIRC spills the beans pretty much instantly. Raymond was a breath of fresh air and if we get a SO7, I hope the next protagonist is somewhat similar.
5. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.
3 pissed a lot of people off because of the twist at the end, but it's not where the series went off the deep end.
4 has abysmal character faces and voice acting, but other than that it's one of the best games in the series.
5, however, was basically rushed out and the developers had to condense the final act into about 20-30 minutes. They had their directing/cutscene budget slashed meaning they had to do the whole "in game cutscenes where you can still run around" nonsense, and the game is stupidly short compared to the rest (other than 1, but even 1 is longer than 5).
Wasn't this series infamous for being LITERALLY a in universe massive online multiplayer game? like the main characters managed to get out from the game, they meet a random kid who tells them "you are game characters!" and they went "nani?".
That's the SO3 twist, yes. They're characters in a simulation that eventually branched into actual sentient life or something. They don't even really acknowledge it outside of SO3, so you can just treat it as non-canon if it really bothers you.
That's the plot of the third game (chronologically the last game), and that topic hasn't been touched since then.
In the fourth game, the main characters travel to a parallel universe, so I'm not even sure if the "simulation" thing is still canon.
>the main characters travel to a parallel universe
I imagine they just went to another server. But as
>Futuristic crew forced to land in an undeveloped land and do the Star Trek thing of "we can't be futuristic in the current setting" but do it anyways
It's actually fricking funny how 6 called the setting out on this.

said, it's just the usual JRPG beatitude of true free will or freedom from deities and whatnot. Even if they're just data, they still exist.
The MMO thing was pretty vague in 3 and it ends with the cast essentially telling the 4D beings to frick off because it was essentially a parallel universe that they were interfering with. For all we know, Luther and the others discovered the ES by accident and thought that they made it up.
>In the fourth game, the main characters travel to a parallel universe, so I'm not even sure if the "simulation" thing is still canon.
It absolutely is. One of the more background plot points in SO3 is that Luther got to be lead developer in Sphere 211 for inventing a parallel time axis system that allowed the Eternal Sphere to have time travel and alternate histories. So SO4's alt-Earth is perfectly within the Eternal Sphere's capabilities.
Yes. People got really butthurt about it while missing the point that the twist very clearly touches on the fact that they are essentially just another universe with little to no true difference to their creators and the ethical and moral quandaries regarding that and what true conscience means. The actual issue with the twist if any is just that it squanders the world building they had been working towards up to that point and makes a 180.
Looking at the art for the SO2 remake I figured tri-ace they would have used either Akiman/Enami but it seems not this time, it seems fine at least RIP sword Rena
I'm excited as hell. Surprised they didn't show off the game's features like many almost all party members hook up with whoever you want, private actions, crafting, alternate skills like art and publishing and scamming businesses. I think it would've attracted a lot more players.
Looks like it's just the PSP game, but with a Graphical Upgrade/Battle System rework.
I imagine it's the exact same voice recordings/script too. Which I'm fine with actually. The voice acting in the PSP rerelease was pretty decent.
>unless getting locked out of characters
That was the fricking stupidest thing since every material that took place afterwards states that the full fricking party without mutually exclusive recruitments was pretty much the canon gang.

inb4 bonus content for claude is an extra gun that you can use for the entire game, instead of just the prologue (where it still has use since there's like, a 1% encounter in the area where you crash that gives you an assload of exp if you can actually kill it, which is stupid hard unless you have the laser blaster that still works).
It's a pair of knuckles and a sword, that's it.
"early purchase" (first two weeks) is some berries and currency. It's on the PS store homepage and switch shop pages.
Out of all these half pixel half new remasters they've been pumping out, this one looks rather promising. Hopefully the ost will remain faithful. Bonus points if they actually included previously dropped tracks like this one:

though i would argue that edge maverick in 4 is a homosexual for a while after the time travel shit
Edge's semen is at least pretty cool though.
His descendant made an appearance in 6. Was one of the Feds that wasn't a homosexual and was generally a swell dude. Imagine my surprise when I looked up the cast list for SO6 and the actual original voice actor for Edge was the guy voicing him.
The guy actually went back for a bit role voicing someone that was the great^N grandson of a character he previously voiced.

Yeah but it's fricking Matt Mercer, not just some random unknown or small time voice actor. He's one of the biggest names in voice acting, and probably didn't even realize the characters were connected.

Kishio is GigaBased and I’m ashamed to admit I didn’t recognise him when I was playing
I will never understand why people hate the Edge twist in the middle of the game.
Dude is legitimately responsible for the destruction of Earth and the death of some like 2 billion people. Yes, it's an alternate universe Earth, but that doesn't change the massive impact that kind of frick up would have on someone, especially since the entire game up until then is basically Edge fricking up and making things worse.
Personally I thought it was fricking awesome that he went through such a character change and immediately write off any criticism people have when they talk about "emo Edge".

honestly i can't believe how so many people say 3 is good and then shit on 4 for its characters when both games have terrible characters but only 4 has good gameplay.
Roger is an example of why the optional party members was bad idea really, even if it sounds neat. >could miss the two times he temporary joins you >during the second time he's just sort of there for hours because he's not part of the story
If 3 gets remade, I kinda hope they drop the optional party members and give them things to do and say during the entire story.

I fricking hated that Adray was this big ass buff dude with a dope ass katana and then you go to play as him and he's this weak ass little b***h caster.
After getting everybody's trophies I just pick Albel and Peppita every time.
I fricking hated that Adray was this big ass buff dude with a dope ass katana and then you go to play as him and he's this weak ass little b***h caster.
Sea Gate was pretty cool. I wish they leaned harder into the idea of him summoning beasts he had defeated 1v1 (and then bufffed him).
It was actually a bit funny how Adray's daughter was one of the more premiere/most shilled characters in the Anamnesis gacha. Had a lot of variants and she wasn't even fricking playable in the game she came from.
Actually, now that I think about it. Adray's existence is fricking weird. I know that he's an extra addition to the Director's Cut, but it would've actually made more sense if they made Claire the playable character instead of him. Claire was actually a pretty major character throughout the whole Elicoor arc. Meanwhile, I cannot remember any actual fricking role Adray had in the story other than shoving himself in the party. Hell, he didn't even exist in the original release of the game.
Fun fact about the ending of 3.
It basically never happened as far as the Star Ocean universe is concerned.
The entire point of the Eternal Sphere 'game' was that it was basically sentient life that you were playing with.
Meaning for all intents and purposes, everything in the Star Ocean unvierse was real to the people in the Star Ocean universe.
This discovery that they're actually all just computer programs and AI doesn't change the fact that they've had free will for 'billions' of years in game time.
And at the end of 3, they explicitly make it obvious that not only does everyone in the Star Ocean Universe forget anything that happened other than Fayt, Maria and Sophia, but that the 4d space cannot communicate or interact with the Eternal Sphere program anymore, as in the 4d space they literally pulled the plug on the ES servers.
The ONLY person that can still communicate between the two is Maria because of her communication branding magical thing.
So nothing really changed at the end of 3. It didn't have some big twist that ruined the entire series like people seem to think.
>Maria
You mean Sophia.
Fayt was destruction, Maria was Alteration and Sophia was Connection.
Also, on the topic of Maria, do you think that she was supposed to fill the Kenny quota for SO3, but they just scrapped it down the line? If I'm remembering things right, Maria was an orphan that didn't actually know her lineage.

100 years later and I'm still wondering about this. Coming off of SO2 and playing 3 for the first time I thought for sure there would be a point where I'd choose between Clair and somebody (probably Albel). I guess because they were already adding Mirage they figured they'd make up a new guy to balance it?
I think it's disingenuous to call it a "port". It's the PS2 game with an upscaler, and trophy support, same as the old san andreas "port" and gta3/vc "ports" and ring of red, wild arms 3, etc.
It's not ported, it's the PS2 game, upscaled. There is no adjustment or change to the game besides emulated filters.
Or do you think emulating means a game is "ported" to pc?
>It's not ported, it's the PS2 game, upscaled. There is no adjustment or change to the game besides emulated filters.
Anon that's literally what ports are. You take a game that came from one system and make it playable on another system while doing as little as possible to change the actual game. >Or do you think emulating means a game is "ported" to pc?
Emulation isn't porting. Porting implies an official release onto a new console. It's not rocket science anon.

You realize the colloquialism 'port' as used in gaming comes from old arcade games that would eventually get an official home console release on a neo geo system or something like NES, right?
I'm aware, but they called it a port so that's what I'm gonna refer to it as. And they did do the bare minimum of changing certain controls because PS4 controllers have no face button pressure so its not completely just the PS2 ISO copy pasted they changed SOMETHING to keep in mind the face modern controllers don't do face button pressure
Reminder if you don't save her husband and have Kenny max out her bond, there is a cutscene that implying that she have feelings for Kenny
Reminder that
- Ronyx was a widowed husband but canonically fricked his hot and much younger adjutant after their adventure because he exuded so much chad middle aged man energy.
- Claude had romantic endings with pretty much the entire female cast and in the Rena ending (which is more less the canon one), he already stuck his dick inside her and has a little Kenny growing in her Nedian womb.
- Emmerson also did a repeat of his ancestor Ronyx and boned a much younger adjutant
- And in the Marielle ending for 6, she pretty much just jumps Raymond and makes out with him.
>play the original you moronic Black folk
I did. Like 6 times.
I've also beaten Second Evolution like 6 times.
I'm excited to play Second Story R another 6 or so times too.
The original isn't going anywhere. Neither is the PSP port. If you want to play those, you still can.
Confession time: I never had any idea what the second disc of the game was all about.
I just blasted through it because it was pretty bad compared to the amazin first dic.
IIRC the wise men are just a bunch of sentenced criminals who crashed?
Like 5 billion years before the game takes place there's a galactic civilization that rules with an iron fist.
To stop rebellion, a scientist dude named Gabriel created the 10 wise men, near immortal near god like beings that would act as enforcers for the galatic empire.
One of the rebellions ended up with Gabriels daughter being killed, and the galactic government tried to cover it up.
Gabriel found out and went nuts, changed the programming on the 10 wise men to follow his commands, and transferred his consciousness into the 'leader' of the Wise Men.
The 10 wise men then started wreaking havoc throughout the universe until they were somehow stopped and trapped in a prison, and then some shit happens 5 billions year later during SO2 that releases them from their prison, and they continue on their path of rampage to destroy all of the universe.
It's neither moronic nor rushed. Reading a quick 200 word blurb about what happened at the most superficial level isn't a good barometer of whether or not something is rushed or moronic. At least these villains have motivation for doing what they're doing, as opposed to literally every other mainline villain in Star Ocean where it's just "uhhhhhhh this is actually the big bad guy that randomly appeared out of no where in the final act that has very little personal relationship with the party and very little screen time in general".
beings turned insane million years ago
That's not what happened.
The creator of the machines had his daughter killed and the government tried to cover it up, so he changed the programming on the machines and then transferred his angry consciouness into one of them. >>they're now free, somehow
It's explained in the game but I just don't remember off the top of my head what happens. I do remember that basically the entire plot of the first planet is leading to releasing them from their prison though. It's not like they randomly break out or they do it off screen. It's directly a result of what they party does in game. >>go and stop them
Yes anon, you released an ancient evil that is hell bent on wiping out the universe. It's your mess to fix.

This post is straight up bullshit.
The 4th Dimensional Artifacts still exist and are active, not to mention that Welch still exists and is able to access Eternal Sphere and makes references to the events of SO3 in her appearances which are canonically earlier in the timeline then that.
>This discovery that they're actually all just computer programs and AI doesn't change the fact that they've had free will for 'billions' of years in game time.
They've not had free will until post SO3. Belial's Dictionary Entry literally says he alters events and sets up things to keep the game from getting boring and references the events of SO1 and SO2.
Belial interferes with events in the ES because he was bored and malicious but they never once said that the 4D beings had the ability to completely control any arbitrary person in the ES. If that was the case then the entire plot of 3 would make no fricking sense because Luther could have easily just made everyone behave the way that he wanted to instead of going about that roundabout method.
They couldn't control individual people, but it wasn't a concern until they gained access to the game's coding through symbology and started to realize the true nature of the universe and Sphere Corp did everything in their power to stamp out the "bugs".
IMO that's when individuals in Eternal Sphere started gaining actual free will, once you're able to manipulate the code, you're no longer bound by it. But that's headcanon.
>because he was bored and malicious
It wasn't because he was bored and malicious, it was to prevent the game from becoming boring. His english dictionary entry is here

So he was bored anon. They were also well aware of the symbological research going on considering that SO5 deals with the origins of the research that ultimately led to the creation of Fayt/Maria/Sophia. They could have stopped it ages ago.
And the 10 wisemen, and move races to other planets and everything else and create things to wipe out solar systems and galaxies. They literally script major events and bosses to keep the game from getting boring. There's no need control every individual person when they're all puppets dancing on a string.

As soon as they realize the humans had accessed the code deeply enough to realize the nature of the universe and the potential to access 4D space, they immediately used anti-virus programs to wipe out the Milky Way.

Anon, they were watching the entire time. That's why Belial was able to break the quantum lock sealing the 10 Wisemen.
You're ascribing too much strength and influence to the 4D when only 3 used the data entry to explain the otherwise inexplicable shit.
Blair and the others who were the "programmers" said that they don't have that level of control and all they were meant to do was to watch over what was happening.
Anonymous
Except Eternal Sphere is explicitly stated to be an MMO that allows 4D beings to watch and even enter and interact with. The dictionary entry straight up says he created characters with powerful parameters. Not "he freed them" or "he broke the seal." He CREATED them.
They also have the level of control to activate anti-virus programs that wipe out galaxies and when the anti-virus is uninstalled, it releases a stronger anti-virus.
The game straight up unambiguously says and shows they can do more then "just watch." and I have no idea how you're ignoring that,.
Hell, even after Eternal Sphere is recreated, 4D beings can still enter it, move around the universe and time and interact.

Having tyrant gods periodically frick up your existence to tell interesting stories isn't quite the same as "not having free will", it's more like you're living in a really shitty circumstance.
Which, you know, is the entire reason Dr. Leingod made Fayt, Maria, and Sophia to put a stop to that shit.

I mean, is it free will when you're bound to the program and not moving outside of expected parameters? Is it free will when the major events and stories of your life are scripted?

Free Will is the ability to choose. But the events of SO1 and SO2 were scripted. Did the people in those events have the ability to choose another outcome? If you're acting in the parameters of what you are programmed to do, do you have free will? Especially when acting outside of that is considered a bug and cause for deletion.

>But the events of SO1 and SO2 were scripted. Did the people in those events have the ability to choose another outcome?
at what point did the game state these characters were incapable of choosing and just followed a predetermined outcome? Fate and co were just as much "scripted" and managed to get out.
Are you claiming Luther programmed them to do so? Why would he get so asspained by them succeeding then?

>Fate and co were just as much "scripted" and managed to get out.
Fate, Maria and Sophia are still technically scripted, just outside the parameters. they had the coding of the game literally imprinted in their bodies and were designed to kill "God." That's what they did.
>at what point did the game state these characters were incapable of choosing and just followed a predetermined outcome?
The events of those games were scripted. The scenarios were literally designed as an event by the admins. The time loop happened, needing a 4th Dimensional Artifact to stop it. Claude was transported to Expel by a 4th Dimensional Artifact.
They didn't have any choice in the matter.

Boundaries exist for everyone and everything. You are bound by your chemical based programming. If that is your quantification of free will then free will is a void concept that cannot be executed by anyone.

Black person your brain also follows conditional programming based on ethics and morals, you aren't going to do 100% of all available actions all humans are capable of. nor are you going to be able to learn all 100% of human knowledge.
just because it's based on experience and chemical reactions it doesn't mean it's any less programming than electronic means. your brain just has further boundaries than these characters' AI, but they still exist nonetheless and will eventually reach their limit.

> the entire reason Dr. Leingod made Fayt, Maria, and Sophia to put a stop to that shit.
Not that anon, but I'm pretty sure that the reason Dr. Leingod played God was because well, "God" told them that they were playing God with all the Symbological tech they were making and so they'll be killed off for their ego. And to prevent all life from being extinguished, he decided to actually make people that can kill "God".
In retrospect, Luther was a dumbass. If he didn't make that initial warning that the Eternal Sphere programs were getting too uppity, they would've remained blissfully ignorant of the 4D universe. He literally created a: "They're trying to kill us off, so we'll kill them off first!" situation for the Eternal Sphere programs.

>Hell, even after Eternal Sphere is recreated, 4D beings can still enter it, move around the universe and time and interact.
I haven't played anything past 3, who does this? I know Welch is in 4 but that's a prequel. I also remember Elena was strongly implied to be a 4D being trapped there, but that's it.

>who does this?
Welch. She shows up in the remakes of 1 and 2 and pretty much every game after that. She can also properly use 4th dimensional artifacts and makes references to the events of SO3.
My personal headcanon is:
SO1 > SO2 > Blue Sphere < SO3 ( Original Eternal Sphere)
SO4 > SO1R > SO2R > SO5 > Anamnesis > SO6 (Post SO3 Eternal Sphere)

Spoonfeed me: Is any game after 3 actually canonically AFTER 3 or have they completely b***hed out on advancing the timeline after the Eternal Sphere reveal? This is where I'm confused.

Nothing in the SO timeline has gone past 3 yet. Maybe if everyone didn't lick journalist balls and dogpile on the ending.

They've completely b***hed out at placing any game in the timeline explicitly after 3.
SO5-6 are prequels yeah, they pretend SO3 never happened so they don't have to actually try to envision a post ES universe
Thank you. Can't say I loved the ending but they made their bed and I'd like to see how the inhabitants of the universe "handle" it, you know?
Did Albel's art always blatantly show off half his wiener?
They know the value of the fujo dollar.

I can't imagine the Eternal Sphere universe would be much different if at all post SO3. The only question really would be if symbology remains usable, considering it's programming language.

People just blindly hate the concept of a simulated universe in both video games and movies and refuse to engage with it. And to fair to them, it's often undeserved and unnecessary. What matters is the execution and cohesive themes around it, not whether or not it makes the bare minimum of sense with context. The ending didn't ruin the series but it absolutely marred its reputation.
Black person THE PEOPLE IN THE UNIVERSE LITERALLY GETS KILLED FOR FUNSIES LITERALLY NOTHING MATTERS IT'S ALL SCRIPTED SHIT AND THE CHARACTERS GET KILLED OFF FOR THE LULZ IS THAT YOUR FATHER CLAUDE???? LMAO LET ME JUST KILL THIS DUDE XD
>Everything is totally scripted >The entire fricking point of 3 is that the 4D beings were mad that things were going OFF script for decades
have a nice day
>The entire point of the Eternal Sphere 'game' was that it was basically sentient life that you were playing with.
I mean they made an entire parallel universe. It's not just data, it's all structurally sound and by the end of 3 is separated and legitimized. 4D beings technology grew so advanced and indecipherable from magic they essentially have the power of God, capital G.
The only people who shitpost about this are the ones who don't understand it.
why do these remasters always act like a monkey paw wish?
seriously, the graphics are everything I wanted over the changes in Second Evolution, but then they take away Pear into Peaches, now half of the game's fun is gone
just like Castlevania DXC replacing Die Monster for Yuri Lowenthal doing his best impression of Richter Belcomnt as a JRPG protagonist
Never played a Star Ocean game before, got two questions >Should I play the first one first? >I see there are multiple remakes of both 1 and 2, is this a final fantasy pixel remasters kind of deal where it's better to get the other remakes because this one only has the original stuff in it? Which versions should I play?
Star ocean 1 had a PSP remake, its honestly the better option if you're gonna start from the beginning because the SNES version is infamous for being rushed out the door and missing shit ( a whole party member, the final areas being so undercooked etc etc) the PSP remake does re add stuff/flesh out the game more
>Should I play the first one first?
sure why not, but play the PSP remake First Departure instead of the old SNES version. also, it 's not necessary. 1 and 2 are separate stories that take place in distant time gaps.
the biggest relation that you'll pay attention when going from one to the other is just noticing the protagonist's dad is the first game's MC old and retired from his days of heroism but his impact on the sequel's plot is next to zero anyway. >I see there are multiple remakes of both 1 and 2, is this a final fantasy pixel remasters kind of deal where it's better to get the other remakes because this one only has the original stuff in it? Which versions should I play?
nah, sure you can enjoy Second Evolution but it's better to wait for this remake and see if they cut something off or not. but 2 is really nice with that 90s anime feel and janky dubs, so you can enjoy it as is and then go play the new one for a different experience.
1 on the SNES has no redeeming qualities tho. just play the remake.

the PS1 version, I mean
First Departure feels very similar to Second Evolution. You might get burnt out if you play it first. The original on SNES was fun when I tried it but I didn't get really deep into it so I can't comment. Honestly I don't think SO1 is that great. I recommend starting with SO2. The PSP version suffers from some stretched backgrounds due to it being widescreen which is kind of annoying. Also they updated the voices. Oh lord the voices, it's worth playing the original on PlayStation just for the voices
>PS1 character sprites, now drowned in post processing effects >Unity tier backgrounds >PSP voices >Iron stance and assists for some reason, as if that would salvage the spammy combat
Akiman's portraits are great but it's not enough to bother
>another remake of more nip shit
The smugness I feel towards weebs is transcendent. Though, I do actually like Star Ocean 2 so yeah, this could be cool
Hope they fix some balancing issues, Ashton is too good to not have him in the party, meanwhile Dias fricking sucked despite the game hyping him up as the best character.
absolutely, just like Tales it's a series focused on character dynamics while the main plot takes a backseat
Divine Force is okay, somewhere between mid-to-good and treated like a redeemer of the series after Integrity flopped
Star ocean started out as "Tales in space" so there's a lot of shared aspects
The new entry isn't bad. Its probably the best SO we had in years and doesn't have any crippling flaws like SO5 being rushed or SO4 cringe everything outside of the battle system
Thanks I think I’ll play them in release order and avoid the bad ones then.

SO was basically created by ex-Tales of people after Namco israeliteed them. The first three games feel very "'Tales of' but in SPACE" and are actually pretty experimental in terms of game mechanics (sometimes too experimental as SO3's crafting system completely breaks the game).
4, 5, and 6 aren't as highly regarded.
IMO - SO3 gets a lot of flak for its twist but honestly it's probably the best entry point.
when I got bored of it like halfway through I just made Ray's best weapon then and just breezed through the rest
its silly that crafting lets you do that with not a lot of effort
You could check the Xenoblade games then, you can completely break their battle systems for additional fun, and the best part is how you realize they purposely thought it out that way.
>SO3's crafting system completely breaks the game
I really liked how every inventor was their own unique NPC and they all had backstory entries. I wish more games had balls-to-the-wall worldbuilding fluff like that.
>release so6 on xbox >release octopath on xbox >don't release so2 rerelease on xbox >don't release octopath 2 on xbox
its like these Black folk dont want me to buy their games
i own a PS5 but only buy jrpgs on xbox out of principle
I'm really sorry but JRPGs just don't sell on Xbox no matter how much MS is trying to make it happen.
Xbox users call them gay cringe and many of their users say they don't play Japanese games. They went almost the entire Xbone generation with essentially 0 Jap games so it's no wonder they are conditioned like this.
my biggest gripe with Xbox was seeing a ton of exclusives at the time like Blue Dragon, Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant, Tales of Vesperia and even FF XIII going multiplat instead of being a PS3 exclusive. I thought "okay gonna bet the farm on this then".
looking back, almost nothing was worth the effort. xbox weebs got fricked way too much to keep trying. to this day there's still no Disgaea, no Ys, Final Fantasy getting less ports than on Switch, nothing.
all they got is a few Bamco stuff such as Code Vein and Scarlet Nexus, and now Hi-Fi Rush, I guess?
What I hate the most out of 360 exclusives is that most of them were never ported anywhere else and Xenia is very far behind in development compared to RPCS3 so you can't even emulate them.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2238900/STAR_OCEAN_THE_SECOND_STORY_R/
anon please, I know SE at early 10s was supremely moronic but almost no japanese company is still that anal these days
Divine Force fanned the flames.
It was almost dead after IV borked on Xbox 360 and V got nerfed on PS3 before being ported to PS4, instead of being made for PS4 and looking like a decent game.
Also, one neat thing about Precis is that her control module for her robot backpack in her artwork for that game is the main console for that particular game.
Second Story Precis uses a Dualshock 1
Second Evolution Precis uses a PSP 1000
Anamnesis Precis uses a Smartphone
Second Story R Precis uses a Dualshock 4
I think the second dude unironically thinks that the PSP art is the original art. The new art looks far closer to the original's art more than the generic moeblob psp art to be honest.
You're fricking blind as shit if you seriously think the PSP art is good
That's an obvious troll, ignore the moronic troony and the other troon below you.
I understand why they'd remake 2 but I wish they did 1 first. For no real reason other than the fact that I replayed SO2 rather recently and honestly don't feel like playing it again so soon.
That being said the 2D sprites over 3D models looks so fricking jarring holy shit, the lighting in particular makes everything look weird. It's super noticeable when they show the scene in the forest where you meet Rena, like what the frick is up with that grass movement combined with the static 2D sprites? The way the light reflect off the sprites look weird too.
If they did all that work on the environments and battle system, would've it fricking killed them to at least redo or clean up the sprites?
I imagine each character in total only has like 100 different pixel sprites all in all. Surely it would've taken less work than all the other things they did.
>people really unironically seriously think this looks good
not sure if I have gotten too old or SE homosexuals have a major brain deficiency.
it really looked horrible to me compared to the original where nothing looked off.
She really grew on me when I replayed 3 not too long ago. Always liked her but this time she ended up being my favourite girl.
Of all the Heroine endings in SO3, I liked hers the best. >tfw no magic ninja assassin onee-san that gets grumpy when you talk to other girls
I almost completed the game, I think.
Never created a single item.
Did I miss the usual OP game-breaking weapons?
SO6 is honestly pretty easy. So you can clear it without crafting. Gabriel and Ethereal Queen are the usual stat sponges though. So you're gonna have to do some crafting to actually do damage to them.
>battle trophies >ever caring about that shit
3 and 4 convinced me to drop cheevos forever, at least minmaxing gives you actual benefits in games so I'll be sticking to that only thx
Oh good, maybe mages are actually viable now. >Leon casts a spell >fifteen seconds go by while the game stops to let the spell animation play >9999 damage
On a lore basis, was it ever fricking explained why the Edarl sword style (Air Slash, Double Slash, Dragon Roar etc) was a thing that was known across multiple star systems? I mean, yeah it made sense that Claude would be familiar since Roak probably partially joined the Federation after his dad's game and so some of their military doctrine would be integrated into the Federation's.
But why the frick do the likes of Albel, Dias or Fidel know about it?
>the logo went for the classic star trek font style, unlike first departure R
KINO
It's kinda confusing when it comes to the titles, though... First Departure R is just a censored port of the psp version whereas Second Story R is a whole new title.
I hate HD-2D. I hate HD-2D. I hate HD-2D. I hate HD-2D. I hate HD-2D.
Literally fricking nasty-ass early PS3 bloom slop garbage. I just wanted the PSP version given the same treatment as First Departure.
You can technically do that already, if its gonna be like other HD-2D games, it'll run on unreal. you have to do internal editing because SE are gays and won't add them filter options in menus
I have played Second Evolution multiple times. It’s one of my favorite games. I was excited at the idea that it would get the same remaster treatment as the first because they actually did a good job. Rebalanced, run button, JP voices, nice portraits, HD versions of the old portraits, no smeary Vaseline backgrounds like the FF remasters. It was perfect. This is just immensely disappointing and such a waste of potential for a modern release.
The PSP version already changed stuff though and it was shit
11 months ago

It hardly changed anything. It was mostly just a port. And the changes people didn’t like would have been fixed with a remaster like FDR. They had new portraits drawn that matched the SNES art better, rebalanced the game to make it harder, and added a new voice track with the original VAs. That’s all they had to do with 2. The main complaints were the art and balancing from fans of the PS1 release. Though personally I actually like the PSP version as it is, including the art. I still wanted an HD port with dual audio.

Jesus christ just play the ps2 version you autist, you're not forced to buy the remaster. You're the only dude here unironically asking to pay 60 bucks for literally the same game with literally zero effort.

FDR was only like 20 bucks and was way better than this. They put in more effort to make it WORSE and more expensive. Like hell I’m buying this. Square’s not getting a penny from me.

Black person, Second Story "got the same remaster treatment as the first", it''s called Second Evolution, as a follow up to First Departure being that for SO1.
What you're asking for is a straight port of Second Evolution, which is pointless. Just fire up PPSSPP and play it on max settings, it's right there and works perfectly.
No shit I can play it on PPSSPP. But I wanted a proper remaster. It looks like shit on emulator because its assets were made for a teeny tiny handheld screen. I played FD and SE so much on my PSP that the goddamn X button got mushy. It’s not unreasonable to want a normal fricking port instead of another remake. Obviously now I’m forced to emulate it because I’m not buying this slop.
Honestly, kinda shit. She's a joke character. Fun Private Actions though.
With the whole battle system being retooled though, she might actually be good this time.
>looks even worse than 2d-hd
Jesus fricking christ how did they even do it
If you can't manage to get the backgrounds to look good just go full on PS1 nostalgia and at least imitate Xenogears or something.
>thinking of buying an Xbox >look at the JRPG list >not even bother with exclusives, just check if there's at least as many third-parties as on PS4/5 >immediately give up
If you like jrpgs or Japanese games in general why would you pick Xbox?
3 of the 4 main platforms basically get every Japanese game nowadays and you pick the one that doesn’t
No really, first time I played Second Evolution all those years ago, I was genuinely surprised that she just casually dropped that she was riding the Kenny Express and was now carrying his spawn.
Rena's nedian gene too strong, all kennies followed have blue hair
Speaking of Nedians and fricking
I think it's fricking hilarious that the entries for Expellians in SO3, they note that there's a recent trend in the past few hundred years where there is an Expellian that is born with long ears and amazing symbology affinity. Claude took Rena back to earth with him, so that just means that Noel and Chisato got really fricking feisty with the Expel natives after the events of SO2.

Thank you. Can't say I loved the ending but they made their bed and I'd like to see how the inhabitants of the universe "handle" it, you know?

They know the value of the fujo dollar.
Handle it how? Beyond Fayt's gang, the rest of the universe won't know shit. For literally everyone else, it's business as usual with intergalatic wars and shit.
>SO4 features the man who pitched the UP3. >Latest Star Ocean has the main character absolutely tear into Edge's descendant about how stupid the UP3 is.
>how stupid the UP3 is
But it is actually important. The shitshow they found themselves in was because of some frickers haphazardly ignoring the UP3. Be a chad like the Kennys. The UP3 is important, but break that shit when you gotta save the universe.
I can't imagine the Eternal Sphere universe would be much different if at all post SO3. The only question really would be if symbology remains usable, considering it's programming language.
>Beyond Fayt's gang, the rest of the universe won't know shit.
The Feds know about what Fayt/Maria/Sophia are to the point where (iirc) Maria chooses to frick off to nowhere in her ending. At they very least they will ply an explanation for what the frick was happening with those planet-deleting monsters.
Even if they just choose to be like "nobody else ever knew" I'd like to see more stuff AFTER 3. I hate it when games frick around in prequel land too long (SUIKODENNNNNNNNN REEEEE).
>Even if they just choose to be like "nobody else ever knew" I'd like to see more stuff AFTER 3.
Same, no sense treating 3 like the end if now it's a legitimate separate parallel universe with its own problems. Expand more on the federation and politics for all I care.
why is this shit getting so much attention? and why can't infinitely better games like ff tactics, parasite eve, vagrant story or xenogears get the same treatment?
They wouldn’t have to involve him, and they wouldn’t want to. They own the IP and can do what they want with it. The last thing a Xenogears fan should want is for SE to touch it in any capacity.
>SE would have to pay the original author license money to get permission to make a new game
Well, if I understand correctly, you're saying that the billion-dollar company cannot afford to pay a few million in royalties to the author? Really?
>vagrant story
FF 16 team is pretty much the guys behind VS / Tactics / FF XII and XIV
if they succeed with this game, expect a remaster to come along pretty soon
SO2 is the last SO game everyone agrees was above a 5/10. Every time another SO game flops they touch SO2 again to save the IP.
FFT is a masterpiece but it ain't carrying the FF IP. Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story, and Xenogears are all late 90's Squaresoft IPs that never took off and their creators are either busy milking FF or work at other companies.
absolutely, they took away all the SNES shart and replaced it for SO2's exploration and battle system. it feels like a modded SO2 with 1's story.
don't expect the wholesome jank 2 got, but it's a nifty nice-looking little vidya to waste a day or two beating it. pretty short game for a jarpig.
It's genuinely pretty good. I'm an autist for music syncing with the exact shit happening on screen note for note so despite all the other pretty shit happening in the OP, Celine's Southern Cross invocation absolutely syncing with the TADORI- TSU - KE - RU- YO gets me going every single time.
anon, I literally breathe by love for 2D on 3D
this looks like shit
Ys, Disgaea, hell original Star Ocean games looked better.
This isn't even HD2D, it's HIRE THIS MAN + 2D spritework which do not mesh together.
it just clashes so hard with each other.
Mechanically fun, actually one of the better battle systems.
Worst Characters and Story (like the story is especially moronic even by SO standards).
But it's "worst" in a so bad its good entertaining way.
5 has a consistent and more put together story, but god damn is it boring.
>SO4 features the man who pitched the UP3. >Latest Star Ocean has the main character absolutely tear into Edge's descendant about how stupid the UP3 is.
ToP and the first SO is almost identical because it's made by the same people. The gameplay diverged when the devs left and ToP ps1 version released making the gameplay more complex and adding fighting game inputs. SO gameplay stayed simple and streamlined but they still have similarities.
your life is shit then, it's all a big simulation too.
otherwise space wouldn't be so hard to explore and wouldn't be surrounded by a bunch of fake nothing that's hiding all sorts of shit.
I want Square Enix to go out of business and for the Japanese government to step in and seize their headquarters and dump all the top SE executives onto the the streets and then dump grape juice on their expensive suits.
>2d but with depth of field and bloom
frick off holy shit
Remember to thank robo pussy sales for this remake
Hope it's good because I loved 2.
I'll thank Ray for being a chad protag instead.
Play the psp remaster on emulator.
It looks better than the switch remake
>play the remaster
I see no reason to play it over the original.
Tri-ace are not developing this, and SO6 flopped.
it sold well enough specially after the disaster that was 5
I thought it had the worst week 1 sales in the series?
How good does the game get? I just beat that worm boss in delryk mines, but I'm not feeling the game too much. I thought tales of arise was a much better action game.
The plot goes to places and felt oddly paced, with stakes escalating but in a weird way.
Which Star Ocean is this? She's sex.
The newest one, SO6
It sold good? I remember at launch was barely playable cause porting was shit. I postponed the buying for that alone.
I actually thought the combat looks slower then the original.
Wait, it looked futurist at the start, then I looked away from a sec and it became medieval? What?
First time hearing about star ocean?
Yes.
Unfortunately every Star Ocean is like this. It looks all slick and cool then it's trees for like 90% of the game.
I think for Second Story all of the future stuff is solely at the beginning and they don't go back to it. I'm not 100% sure though.
3, 4 and 6 go pretty hard on the Sci-fi. They have a pretty even spread of comfy medival planets and space shenanigans.
Ah right on. I might have to give those a try.
its sci fi at the beginning, medieval until the halfway point, and then its sci fi again
>Pretty much all the Kenny's throughout Federation History kept breaking the UP3
>Claude's great great great great great great Grand daughter swears to be a total law and rulegay this time to not be like her rulebreaking ancestors
>The bad guys of the game call out heroes on giving them shit for: "muh underdeveloped planet intervention" when the great heroes of the federation before them kept doing the exact same shit
>Said grand daughter breaks the rules to stop the people breaking the rules from breaking the rules
It's just the usual JRPG stuff of killing the gods and giving mortals true autonomy. But this time with a Sci-fi filter. I don't get why people are still buthurt about this.
I like how she inherited her grandmothers thing for cats
Star Ocean: the 90s budget sci-fi TV show of video games.
All the games are the same bait and switch.
>Game begins in futuristic world (first 10%)
>Then 80% takes place on some medieval era planet cus you crash landed there or something
>Then the final/climax 10% of the game is in the futuristic/space world/galaxy/federation whatever
Hope they make mages/spellcaster not completely fricking useless past the 40% point or so of the game this time around.
Well with the support system or whatever, it'll probably be fine as they won't need to actually be in the fight.
PEAR
INTO
PEACHES
MEAT
SPLASH
alright i like it looks good but did they do a rebalance thats what im most interested in?
Is Star Ocean like Final Fantasy where each game is contained or is there an over arching story? Am I just able to play this one?
Same universe with references to the overarching setting covered in other games, but each game is pretty much self-contained.
They all take place on the same timeline, but they're mostly contained. SO2's male protag is related to characters from SO1 (one of whom shows up in the game itself), but the story itself is unrelated.
>IT LOOKS SO FRICKING GOOOOOOOOOOOD
what the frick are you on, those 2d sprites walking in that detailed 3d world are disgusting
no but you see anon, the absurdity draws attention to how SPRITEY and PIXELLY they are and it's totally celebrating what you love instead of cynically exploiting with insulting nostalgia 'fanservice' to part you from your money!
Holy soul
Was it Star Ocean 3 or 4 where the series went off the deep end?
5
3 is the one that morons complain about because journalists told them to though.
My problem with 3 wasn't the twist, it's the fricking rush to the ending and characters like Nel becoming irrelevant.
6 didn't do this thankfully. The MC gives literally zero fricks about it and IIRC spills the beans pretty much instantly. Raymond was a breath of fresh air and if we get a SO7, I hope the next protagonist is somewhat similar.
>FRICK THE FEDS
Yeah ray is seriously one of the best jrpg protags in a long time
>that part during the wedding
Legit spend hours waiting for the trope to happen and then Ray goes and stops it.
What a guy.
If you hate the big twist then SO3. If you don't mind it then SO4.
>Forever avoid the series after playing 3
>Remake looks amazing and now I have to move aside my backlog to play this at release
They got me good
Wasn't this series infamous for being LITERALLY a in universe massive online multiplayer game? like the main characters managed to get out from the game, they meet a random kid who tells them "you are game characters!" and they went "nani?".
it's a simulation, they still have free will
That's the SO3 twist, yes. They're characters in a simulation that eventually branched into actual sentient life or something. They don't even really acknowledge it outside of SO3, so you can just treat it as non-canon if it really bothers you.
I still have no idea why people hate the SO3 twist. I thought it was pretty neat.
they acnowledge it in 4. the main enemy is explained in game as 4th dimensional malware attacking the universe.
But as
said, it's just the usual JRPG beatitude of true free will or freedom from deities and whatnot.
I love this franchise too much, hope tri-Ace doesn’t go under and they make 7 even better than 6 was
how long are these games?
Depends on how much you want to do in them. My last playthrough of SO2 was 44 hours and I did almost everything.
The main story will take about 35-40 hours. I had 100 hours on my last file just grinding the postgame dungeon for perfect gear
>Soulless ugly garbage
No thanks.
Looking at the art for the SO2 remake I figured tri-ace they would have used either Akiman/Enami but it seems not this time, it seems fine at least RIP sword Rena
>tri-ace
I know this is a tangent off your post but man. What a great company name.
WHERE THE FRICK IS DRAGON Quest 3 REMAKE SQUARE! IT HAS BEEN 2 FRICKING YEEEEEARS!!!
this is tri-ace an independent company so you asking the wrong people.
Thats why. thank you anon. Square needs to move it's ass!
i missed it but was this getting a box release? or just eshop
Feels good knowing they won't butcher my favorite game.
Do I need to play any other star ocean game or is this self contained?
Black person, there are less than 60 posts in the thread.
Will it kill you to scroll up a little.
Standalone like the other games. Just some reference from the first
Now I'm mad that first departure R is just the PSP game with new portraits, and 2 gets a full on new engine remaster.
OPERA'S HUGE FRICKING breasts
jesus christ, couldn't they touch up the sprites a little?
the sprites are the odd thing out, now that they redid everything else.
I thought it was EVA for a moment.
That's nice but I can never not recruit Ashton, unless getting locked out of characters like that has changed in the remake.
>unless getting locked out of characters
That was the fricking stupidest thing since every material that took place afterwards states that the full fricking party without mutually exclusive recruitments was pretty much the canon gang.
This, Ashton's my bro.
Barrelbros 4life
Ashton chads rise up.
He was a surprisingly cool guy even with such a ridiculous backstory.
best boy
best striker
best skit
>Special ending with a sickly girl
>Romance/Shippergay endings are with Precis
There's something Ashton isn't telling us..
When I beat Star Ocean 2 he ended up with Celine.
i have played through SO2 6+ times, i have never not recruited him
Based Ashton enjoyer. Been a long time since I played but I seem to remember that his ultimate weapon is really easy to craft and sells for shitloads of money.
Can these morons just settle on one art style and roll with it instead of all this clashy shit?
Reminder if you don't save her husband and have Kenny max out her bond, there is a cutscene that implying that she have feelings for Kenny
I hope we can recruit everyone this time, because I really don't want to have to choose.
Got the Welch art?
Which one? She has so many iterations. She's SO's version of Cid from Final Fantasy.
The new one second R anon, love her meta humour
I meant old as the PSP version, im looking for her art from the new trailer of R
Oh. Well they haven't shown her in the new artwork yet
In the trailer they did, thought it'd be available but not yet i guess
She didn't exist in the original SO2. She was retconned in as a minor character for Second Evolution. 3 was the first game she made an appearance in.
MAMA
I like Ashton too, but having Opera as your healer for the post-game is so fricking good.
why does she look like she has a manface?
Nedians are known for their elf-like features.
Tetrageniots also have genetic differences such as a third eye and troony looks
She didn't look trans in any of the previous art iterations?
You love trannies so much I'm sure you'd find the original art as manface
Literally looks 5x more attractive than
For starters you can tell she's actually wearing makeup in the original art
KEK you literally can't stop making up shit huh
Take your fricking L
You can literally see the lipstick and eyeliner on her original art as well as all of her art from spinoff shit including the gacha they did not long ago
Nu-art she looks like she was made intentionally ugly as frick
>Nu-art she looks like she was made intentionally ugly as frick
You're a troony, just admit it
Worshipping ugliness is what trannies do, I want to look at attractive things
Pretending that beautiful women are ugly to censor them is what you and your fellow trannies do though.
Old Opera was hot
Nu Opera is not

Agree to disagree
God I can't wait for this shitty ass HD2D trend to end
>See SO2 remake got announced
>Opera is my favorite character
>Ctrl+F Opera
>Holy shit this is gonna be good
>That ugly ass artstyle
Holy frick what a fricking disappointment
Is this only on the switch?
There's PC and PS4/5 release
inb4 bonus content for claude is an extra gun that you can use for the entire game, instead of just the prologue (where it still has use since there's like, a 1% encounter in the area where you crash that gives you an assload of exp if you can actually kill it, which is stupid hard unless you have the laser blaster that still works).
It's a pair of knuckles and a sword, that's it.
"early purchase" (first two weeks) is some berries and currency. It's on the PS store homepage and switch shop pages.
100% with Denuv0 so....
So? You emulate the switch version then.
>Emulate while PC exist
Denuvo
Thank fricking god. I now have all star oceans on PS5. Kinda surreal to think about. Yes even 5. IDC what people think it wasn't great but it was good
Yes, finally Star Ocean 2 for PC, what a great year for rpgchads!
Will there still be a physical copy of this on PS4?
is this shit going to sell out and get scalped like crazy?
I don't like pre-ordering shit, but I definitely want a physical copy.
Why oh why didnt the first get a physical release too, At least include it in this release god damn
it looks like shit wtf are you morons smoking? The original backgrounds are full of artistry. This looks like an amateur imitation.
Black person go play the original if you want the original. The remake objectively looks good, stop being insecure.
>chibishit
>good looking
kek
Chibis are cute
Out of all these half pixel half new remasters they've been pumping out, this one looks rather promising. Hopefully the ost will remain faithful. Bonus points if they actually included previously dropped tracks like this one:
>all these half pixel half new remasters
the original SO2 is also half pixel, half 3D
didn't the PSP enhanced port added some new things to the game? whatever it added i hope they still kept it
Welch is in the trailer which was added in the PSP version so it's probably safe to say yes.
>Star Ocean 2
>has a shota party member
>Star Ocean 3
>has a shota party member
that is why these two games are the most remembered game of the series
and all the others have failed
If that was true then why aren't there more lewds of the shotas, you Black person homosexual? Also, SO3 is remembered for being shit.
why are you looking up porn of kids?
and SO4-SO6 was shit as well and nobody ever remember them
>SO4
>SO6
>shit
lmao no. 2, 4, and 6 are the best games in the series. 3 is middle tier. 1 (PSP) and 5 are bottom of the barrel trash, but 1 (SNES) is a technical marvel.
>2, 4, and 6 are the best games in the series
astonishingly based
though i would argue that edge maverick in 4 is a homosexual for a while after the time travel shit
>The guy actually went back for a bit role voicing someone that was the great^N grandson of a character he previously voiced.
neat
i liked 4 overall but hated that part where edge has an early-aughts sad sack stage, good thing it clears up later
Yeah but it's fricking Matt Mercer, not just some random unknown or small time voice actor. He's one of the biggest names in voice acting, and probably didn't even realize the characters were connected.
>Imagine my surprise when I looked up the cast list for SO6 and the actual original voice actor for Edge was the guy voicing him
Kishio is GigaBased and I’m ashamed to admit I didn’t recognise him when I was playing
>I will never understand why people hate the Edge twist in the middle of the game.
it just went on for too long and there was a lot that wasn't within their control in the first place
honestly i can't believe how so many people say 3 is good and then shit on 4 for its characters when both games have terrible characters but only 4 has good gameplay.
Based
Roger is an example of why the optional party members was bad idea really, even if it sounds neat.
>could miss the two times he temporary joins you
>during the second time he's just sort of there for hours because he's not part of the story
If 3 gets remade, I kinda hope they drop the optional party members and give them things to do and say during the entire story.
honestly this.
don't know why i had to pick between Albel, Nel, Peppita, and Roger
>mfw the game forces Adray on me instead of one of the four
Adray would've been fine if he didn't join your team so late game
by the time he joins you, you already got your team all set up. so he's useless at that stage
I fricking hated that Adray was this big ass buff dude with a dope ass katana and then you go to play as him and he's this weak ass little b***h caster.
After getting everybody's trophies I just pick Albel and Peppita every time.
>It was actually a bit funny how Adray's daughter was one of the more premiere/most shilled characters in the Anamnesis gacha. Had a lot of variants and she wasn't even fricking playable in the game she came from.
And that was based.
>it would've actually made more sense if they made Claire the playable character instead of him
100 years later and I'm still wondering about this. Coming off of SO2 and playing 3 for the first time I thought for sure there would be a point where I'd choose between Clair and somebody (probably Albel). I guess because they were already adding Mirage they figured they'd make up a new guy to balance it?
Roger will forever be the best party member
God this really makes me want to 100% SO3 again. If only I had more time.
source?
Don't know. Someone on twitter.
aw, that sucks
I fondly remember crafting some sort of shark hat for Roger and it buffing his attack so much he decimated much of the game solo.
I'd rather have them port/remake SO3, to be honest.
There is actually a SO3 HD port
Its also stuck on PS4
I think it's disingenuous to call it a "port". It's the PS2 game with an upscaler, and trophy support, same as the old san andreas "port" and gta3/vc "ports" and ring of red, wild arms 3, etc.
>It's disingenuous to call it a "port"
>It's...[goes on to describe a port]
The frick?
Yeah so PC is a new platform, emulation is porting, got it. Thanks for clearing it up.
You realize the colloquialism 'port' as used in gaming comes from old arcade games that would eventually get an official home console release on a neo geo system or something like NES, right?
I'm aware, but they called it a port so that's what I'm gonna refer to it as. And they did do the bare minimum of changing certain controls because PS4 controllers have no face button pressure so its not completely just the PS2 ISO copy pasted they changed SOMETHING to keep in mind the face modern controllers don't do face button pressure
>they called it a port
where? It's called a PS2 classic in every single mention of it anywhere that isn't a gaming news site.
I was gonna say the actual store page online but it seems my memory failed me
https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP0082-CUSA04778_00-SLUS204880000001
Fricking shill, no it doesnt
>why yes, I do play Rena every time just to recruit Dias, how could you tell?
My friend was so obsessed with Dias but he never thought to try playing as Rena
He wouldn't believe me when I told him you could recruit Dias kek
I'm cautiously optimistic, but I don't trust Squeenix not to frick this up.
Its the hd 2d guys doing it, its going to be fine
That half a second of the synard flying at the end looked pretty fun
>WE EATING GOOD
Can you stop this Black person speech
They better make Decus/Michael SPICULE look amazing on this.
I seriously hope this time, ALL of the Wise Men got voices
Did they not have them in Second Evolution?
Reminder that
- Ronyx was a widowed husband but canonically fricked his hot and much younger adjutant after their adventure because he exuded so much chad middle aged man energy.
- Claude had romantic endings with pretty much the entire female cast and in the Rena ending (which is more less the canon one), he already stuck his dick inside her and has a little Kenny growing in her Nedian womb.
- Emmerson also did a repeat of his ancestor Ronyx and boned a much younger adjutant
- And in the Marielle ending for 6, she pretty much just jumps Raymond and makes out with him.
The game in the Kenny bloodline is too stronk.
Nope, only in cutscenes. in fights only spicule guy onwards got voiced like in PS1
It looks hideous and ruins the art style. I’m pissed.
thank fricking goodness they aren't using moeblob PSP art
how can you unironically say that shit looks good
play the original you moronic Black folk
Its looks good, cope
Seethe about it, homosexual.
Cope.
Looks exactly like the psp version except with an octopath filter
I played the original before you were born and the remake looks good.
>play the original you moronic Black folk
I did. Like 6 times.
I've also beaten Second Evolution like 6 times.
I'm excited to play Second Story R another 6 or so times too.
The original isn't going anywhere. Neither is the PSP port. If you want to play those, you still can.
It just looks like the PS1 version in every way but better, stop being a b***h
I played the original 4 times already. Am I not allowed to play it again but this time not with graphics and technology and bugs from 1998?
No, you have to seethe because remake
That's the rule
MUST CONSUME
MUST BUY
MUST JUSTIFY GETTING UP EVERY MORNING TO WORK
CHILDHOOD GOOD
PAY FOR CHILDHOOD MEMORIE TO PLAY PHONEGAME TIER PORT
i didn't grew up with star ocean and only played them for the first time during high school
I guess I was right, then: it's extremely moronic and/or rushed.
Meh, it's a bad writing.
>artificials beings turned insane million years ago
>they're now free, somehow
>go and stop them
beings turned insane million years ago
>The creator of the machines had his daughter killed and the government tried to cover it up, so he changed the programming on the machines and then transferred his angry consciouness into one of them.
So they... turned insane?
I like the gameplay but the story is always terrible in this series.
>It's explained in the game
It's literally because the dude on the other side of the game freed them. It's canon in SO3. Literally everything bad that happened before was because some dude got bored and thought it would be interesting to frick with them.
No moron. It's because Rena popped out of the time warp there and then with the quadratic key. Gabriel detects it, warps the sorcery sphere to where it is (Expel) and starts moving the planet to energy nede to go frick with the nedians again.
>Gabriel detects it, warps the sorcery sphere to where it is
He's locked in moron. He won't be able to do that unless he already got out.
Listen, close 3. Go to the library in North city in 2 and read
Nope, 2 is scripted garbage my friend. It's all according to plan.
Belial interfered with the lock but the actual events of 2 such as them getting the Quadratic Key and shit had nothing to do with him.
Similarly, he was the one responsibility for the random warping of the Muah civilization going wrong but the actual developments of them doing their nonsense was all natural.
I'm still pissed they ported 4 but not 5, Integrity might be a meh game but that b***h witch needs to come to PC so I can look at her ass in max settings
also SO3 is completely fricked as a PS4 exclusive
>I'm still pissed they started selling lemonade but not urine
so5 is the only game in any franchise that i outright exclude from replaying
How can I play SO2 again knowing that it's all just a fake, a lie, a sham?
SO3 isn't real bro
Just treat it like a massive MMO event
what is the problem of acknowledging we're a level below greater beings?
everything 3D is fake by your logic, even us
How is
>The world was an MMO made by extradimensional ayy lmao devs, oh and we killed said ayy lmao devs 80 hours into the game and we can live without them just fine.
any different from the standard JRPG tripe of
>The world was a creation made by the gods, oh and we killed said gods 80 hours into the game and we can live without them just fine.
His english dictionary entry is here
.
>It wasn't because he was bored and malicious
>It was to prevent the game from getting boring
So he was bored anon. They were also well aware of the symbological research going on considering that SO5 deals with the origins of the research that ultimately led to the creation of Fayt/Maria/Sophia. They could have stopped it ages ago.
No, they create shit like Asmodeus and the "Epiphanies" in SO4, they don't alter people's will or 3 wouldn't even happen.
And the 10 wisemen, and move races to other planets and everything else and create things to wipe out solar systems and galaxies. They literally script major events and bosses to keep the game from getting boring. There's no need control every individual person when they're all puppets dancing on a string.
>They could have stopped it ages ago.
Like, we've seen what happens when a major bug is detected and shit starts going outside of parameters. They fricking delete it.
>I mean, is it free will when you're bound to the program and not moving outside of expected parameters? Is it free will when the major events and stories of your life are scripted?
Yes. Stop using "free will" to mean "can do anything and everything ever".
The events being scripted (specifically the only two we have absolute confirmation on are Mu's transportation to Roak and the Wise Men being released from their seal) doesn't mean the characters' reactions to those events are scripted.
They're still puppets dancing on a screen. They can react to the events, but can't actually choose not to go along with them.
you're pretending to be moronic by conflating the events with the characters.
the events being scripted doesn't mean the characters are npc robots just following orders. every time this gets pointed out, you turn the circular logic back.
Yes. You get to choose within your parameters. For frick's sake.
"I can go anywhere" "but if you can't go anywhere in infinite dimensions, can you really go anywhere at all" shut the FRICK up
>Yes. You get to choose within your parameters.
So if I make an AI that uses a scripted program to make choices and it can act in all other ways as a real person, however all choices it makes are according to it's programming, does it have free will?
Yes for frick's sake Victor Frankenstein you should know this by now. In that case you made a true artificial intelligence and you now have the duties responsible to it as a father does. It has become complex enough to be qualified as a person and is afforded all the rights of personhood.
This was the ENTIRE moral plot of Star Ocean 3 and why Luther was the bad guy.
Except it's still bound by it's programming. Every reaction, every response is still according to it's programming. It doesn't have free will, because it can only follow what's been programmed.
>he thinks the lead developer programmed his game to come outside of the game and kill him
Weird way to suicide.
He literally sent a message into the game saying "Hey, stop that or we'll kill you." at which point, the dude went "Oh shit, I gotta kill god first."
So yeah, it was.
So you agree with anon then.
That Luther was a dumbass? Yeah.
Anon, its not programming that ES beings decide to rebel against their creator and KILL him. That's Free Will
Boundaries exist for everyone and everything.
SO4 > SO1R > SO2R > SO5 > Anamnesis > SO6 (Post SO3 Eternal Sphere)
>every game after that
Spoonfeed me: Is any game after 3 actually canonically AFTER 3 or have they completely b***hed out on advancing the timeline after the Eternal Sphere reveal? This is where I'm confused.
Nothing in the SO timeline has gone past 3 yet. Maybe if everyone didn't lick journalist balls and dogpile on the ending.
Thank you. Can't say I loved the ending but they made their bed and I'd like to see how the inhabitants of the universe "handle" it, you know?
They know the value of the fujo dollar.
I can't imagine the Eternal Sphere universe would be much different if at all post SO3. The only question really would be if symbology remains usable, considering it's programming language.
They've completely b***hed out at placing any game in the timeline explicitly after 3.
SO5-6 are prequels yeah, they pretend SO3 never happened so they don't have to actually try to envision a post ES universe
>Everything is totally scripted
>The entire fricking point of 3 is that the 4D beings were mad that things were going OFF script for decades
have a nice day
>The entire point of the Eternal Sphere 'game' was that it was basically sentient life that you were playing with.
I'm gonna consider buying it if they fixed the pauses during casting high end spells.
That shit completely destroys the flow of the combat.
They already did, look at celine
?t=55
I saw that but I'm still sceptical about the big spells, I remember waiting up to 30 sec for it to end and continue to play as Claude.
I wonderr if we're going to see cut content like prince of kross recruitment or the various side quests that just end.
Never played a Star Ocean game before, got two questions
>Should I play the first one first?
>I see there are multiple remakes of both 1 and 2, is this a final fantasy pixel remasters kind of deal where it's better to get the other remakes because this one only has the original stuff in it? Which versions should I play?
1 (PSP)
2 (PSP)
3 (PS4/5)
4 (PS4/5)
5 (PS4/5)
6 (PS5)
Star ocean 1 had a PSP remake, its honestly the better option if you're gonna start from the beginning because the SNES version is infamous for being rushed out the door and missing shit ( a whole party member, the final areas being so undercooked etc etc) the PSP remake does re add stuff/flesh out the game more
Is it in eigo
Yeah
1 on the SNES has no redeeming qualities tho. just play the remake.
>but 2 is really nice with that 90s anime feel and janky dubs
the PS1 version, I mean
First Departure feels very similar to Second Evolution. You might get burnt out if you play it first. The original on SNES was fun when I tried it but I didn't get really deep into it so I can't comment. Honestly I don't think SO1 is that great. I recommend starting with SO2. The PSP version suffers from some stretched backgrounds due to it being widescreen which is kind of annoying. Also they updated the voices. Oh lord the voices, it's worth playing the original on PlayStation just for the voices
>PS1 character sprites, now drowned in post processing effects
>Unity tier backgrounds
>PSP voices
>Iron stance and assists for some reason, as if that would salvage the spammy combat
Akiman's portraits are great but it's not enough to bother
Why the frick it's so expensive? reeeeEEEEEEE
Buy buy buy
>another remake of more nip shit
The smugness I feel towards weebs is transcendent. Though, I do actually like Star Ocean 2 so yeah, this could be cool
token e-girl status?
Hope they fix some balancing issues, Ashton is too good to not have him in the party, meanwhile Dias fricking sucked despite the game hyping him up as the best character.
>Dias
>bad
bwo your illusion, air slash, chaos sword?
even with that, he still pales against Ashton, mf can basically solo through the game
>whiff sword dance
>gets self rooted until it's finished
>good
kek
Never played this franchise but I want to get into it. Will I like it if I also like Tales games? How’s the last entry?
The last entry is alright. It's pretty mid to be honest but it's better than the 2 games before it so people love it.
Thanks I think I’ll play them in release order and avoid the bad ones then.
absolutely, just like Tales it's a series focused on character dynamics while the main plot takes a backseat
IMO - SO3 gets a lot of flak for its twist but honestly it's probably the best entry point.
>crafting system completely breaks the game
The tradition continues in SO6 by the way.
when I got bored of it like halfway through I just made Ray's best weapon then and just breezed through the rest
its silly that crafting lets you do that with not a lot of effort
To be honest, I kinda like it. I think modern RPGs are too mechanically stale and overbalanced these days.
Give me access to some insane shit to figure out.
You could check the Xenoblade games then, you can completely break their battle systems for additional fun, and the best part is how you realize they purposely thought it out that way.
>SO3's crafting system completely breaks the game
I really liked how every inventor was their own unique NPC and they all had backstory entries. I wish more games had balls-to-the-wall worldbuilding fluff like that.
>release so6 on xbox
>release octopath on xbox
>don't release so2 rerelease on xbox
>don't release octopath 2 on xbox
its like these Black folk dont want me to buy their games
i own a PS5 but only buy jrpgs on xbox out of principle
I'm really sorry but JRPGs just don't sell on Xbox no matter how much MS is trying to make it happen.
Xbox users call them gay cringe and many of their users say they don't play Japanese games. They went almost the entire Xbone generation with essentially 0 Jap games so it's no wonder they are conditioned like this.
my biggest gripe with Xbox was seeing a ton of exclusives at the time like Blue Dragon, Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant, Tales of Vesperia and even FF XIII going multiplat instead of being a PS3 exclusive. I thought "okay gonna bet the farm on this then".
looking back, almost nothing was worth the effort. xbox weebs got fricked way too much to keep trying. to this day there's still no Disgaea, no Ys, Final Fantasy getting less ports than on Switch, nothing.
all they got is a few Bamco stuff such as Code Vein and Scarlet Nexus, and now Hi-Fi Rush, I guess?
well they can grind their asses off in Phantasy Star Online 2 forever lol
What I hate the most out of 360 exclusives is that most of them were never ported anywhere else and Xenia is very far behind in development compared to RPCS3 so you can't even emulate them.
Do we know if there's a Japanese voice option or do we have to listen to the English dub
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2238900/STAR_OCEAN_THE_SECOND_STORY_R/
anon please, I know SE at early 10s was supremely moronic but almost no japanese company is still that anal these days
Based, I think I might actually look forward to this. Hope they didn't nerf the shit out of pickpocketing.
Trailer showed you can change audio so we’re good
I've always liked the symbology characters usually have those rune tattoos on their arms and legs.
I'll play through it starting as Claude and recruiting Rena, Celine, Precis, Opera, Chisato, and no other characters again.
>dropping Dias
this sassy Black person is the heart of the party m8
You can only recruit Dias if you play as Rena.
I only ever play Claude.
now THIS is based
renatrannies and diasgays blown the frick out
I've never heard about this series until like a year ago.
How is it suddenly so huge?
Didn't they have a brand new current gen game, a rerelease of some psp game and I guess now a remake of this?
Divine Force fanned the flames.
It was almost dead after IV borked on Xbox 360 and V got nerfed on PS3 before being ported to PS4, instead of being made for PS4 and looking like a decent game.
Also, one neat thing about Precis is that her control module for her robot backpack in her artwork for that game is the main console for that particular game.
Second Story Precis uses a Dualshock 1
Second Evolution Precis uses a PSP 1000
Anamnesis Precis uses a Smartphone
Second Story R Precis uses a Dualshock 4
who's the artist? I wanna study their style
t. drawgay
Probably akiman

Thanks anon

Super cute artstyle. Congrats to him
Wish I knew, its probably someone in house working on it. I don't see any jap article mention who's doing the new art
The art for the portraits looks fricking disgusting, like a western artist LARP
Lost my sale based on that alone
I like it better than the embarassingly childish uguuu anime face.
The frick do these posts mean?
>forgetting about the awful PSP art
Literally 5x better than that westoid LARP shit
They literally gave Opera a fricking man face
You're fricking blind as shit if you seriously think the PSP art is good
God anime past 1999 was a mistake.
I think the second dude unironically thinks that the PSP art is the original art. The new art looks far closer to the original's art more than the generic moeblob psp art to be honest.
That's an obvious troll, ignore the moronic troony and the other troon below you.
I can't wait to uuuOOOHH over Precis again
She doesn't look like that now though, she actually looks like a teen.
.
Also uuuuoooh is reddit as frick.
Still will uuuuuooohhhh T u T
PEAR INTO PEACHES
I understand why they'd remake 2 but I wish they did 1 first. For no real reason other than the fact that I replayed SO2 rather recently and honestly don't feel like playing it again so soon.
That being said the 2D sprites over 3D models looks so fricking jarring holy shit, the lighting in particular makes everything look weird. It's super noticeable when they show the scene in the forest where you meet Rena, like what the frick is up with that grass movement combined with the static 2D sprites? The way the light reflect off the sprites look weird too.
that monkey mob looks extremely jarring for me, but the characters blend better somehow
>I understand why they'd remake 2 but I wish they did 1 first
they did
Yeah that's true but a remake that was on the fricking PSP is old enough to be remade itself by today's standards.
First Departure R came out in 2019
>First Departure R
Ok I was unaware of that one, completely flew under my radar.
I prefer how they did the first games remaster
If they did all that work on the environments and battle system, would've it fricking killed them to at least redo or clean up the sprites?
I imagine each character in total only has like 100 different pixel sprites all in all. Surely it would've taken less work than all the other things they did.
And finally the main visual
On the topic of 3, I actually like how fricking autistic its dictionary got.
In general, SO has pretty damn good world building.
Why not make the sprites HD so they don't look like bad photoshops with these new backgrounds? Holy fricking lazy
How long until we get an actual HD remaster or remake of 3 instead of that upscaled version they threw on PSN
2d sprites on 3d environments is ideal. You are gay and underage if you think otherwise
They should have remade the first one too and included it since it was so short
Where my fellow DIVINE FORCE crafting autists at?!
I almost completed the game, I think.
Never created a single item.
Did I miss the usual OP game-breaking weapons?
Do I need to play the first one before I play this one?
no, the references from 1 in 2 are just trivia stuff and the fact SO1's MC is Claude's dad
Ronyx is not the mc, just one of the guaranteed party members
shit I forgot you play as Roddick, that useless fuccboi
>people really unironically seriously think this looks good
not sure if I have gotten too old or SE homosexuals have a major brain deficiency.
it really looked horrible to me compared to the original where nothing looked off.
I like Nel
She really grew on me when I replayed 3 not too long ago. Always liked her but this time she ended up being my favourite girl.
Of all the Heroine endings in SO3, I liked hers the best.
>tfw no magic ninja assassin onee-san that gets grumpy when you talk to other girls
SO6 is honestly pretty easy. So you can clear it without crafting. Gabriel and Ethereal Queen are the usual stat sponges though. So you're gonna have to do some crafting to actually do damage to them.
Thanks.
But he has to deal with Tynave's and Farleen's obnoxious voices in that ending.
>makes completionists cry
>battle trophies
>ever caring about that shit
3 and 4 convinced me to drop cheevos forever, at least minmaxing gives you actual benefits in games so I'll be sticking to that only thx
What characters are you picking up on your 1st run, Ganker
>rena
>dias
>ashton
>claude
that's my goto party. extras are celine/whoever the frick because I never used anybody else.
Full mage party because the spells do multi hits now.
>Rena
>Celine
>Leon
>Noel
Oh good, maybe mages are actually viable now.
>Leon casts a spell
>fifteen seconds go by while the game stops to let the spell animation play
>9999 damage
>Dias swings his sword
>9999 damage every second
Seriously were play tests not a thing back then?
casters will always be shit, especially when the eternal sphere exists. unless they seriously buff the multi hit spells
With the changes to combat I will probably pick the shittier characters, so that one shota mage, opera/ernest, noel.
I want to use my AIMING DEVICE on Maria
At least it has anime portraits.I hate the pixelated sprites dialogues without it.
Radiata bros...
sorry anon, we're in another timeline now, this game ABSOLUTELY NEVER existed, stop talking about it
I really fricking hate this ~~*HD*~~ 2d artstyle, hated it in octopath, hated it in live a live, hated it in triangle strategy and I hate it here too
Holy shit, looks amazing. Was not expecting this.
STAR OCEAN IS FRICKING BACK.
Nobody can take a beating like Gaston.
shit like this is real SO hours, definitely buying this full price
What the frick? They're actually remaking Blue Sphere?
>remaking Blue Sphere
I fricking wish.
But if this does well, who knows, maybe they will.
Yes.
Had a banging early 2000s as frick song too.
Oh shit, I only saw the thumbnail and it looked like BS logo. But there's still hope if they're remaking SO2.
Blue Sphere is the name of the anime adaptation of picrel
Blue Sphere is the GBC sequel you dolt.
The anime is called Star Ocean EX.
oh shit I forgot that game even existed at all
I hate HD-2D. I hate HD-2D. I hate HD-2D. I hate HD-2D. I hate HD-2D.
Literally fricking nasty-ass early PS3 bloom slop garbage. I just wanted the PSP version given the same treatment as First Departure.
Cope
What if they did HD-2D but with the option of turning off the obnoxious shaders and locking the camera to the original angle?
You can technically do that already, if its gonna be like other HD-2D games, it'll run on unreal. you have to do internal editing because SE are gays and won't add them filter options in menus
It would still look bad. It’s missing the pre-rendered backgrounds, and the UI looks soulless and nothing like Star Ocean.
FD is literally the same as the PSP version of SO2. If you want FD for SO2 then play PSP version of SO2 .
Then people would complain it changed nothing
Let them complain then. It didn’t NEED to be changed. It looks like shit now.
The PSP version already changed stuff though and it was shit
Square’s not getting a penny from me.
>pauses every spell
Hey you can keep eating shit if you want but don't pretend it's not shit.
>I was excited at the idea that it would get the same remaster treatment as the first because they actually did a good job.
>It’s not unreasonable to want a normal fricking port
But it is a port. Its quite literally the same game but with some changes
>It’s just a port even though they completely changed all the visuals of the game and altered the gameplay
Anyone remember the SO2 anime that never got a second season?

Based
I loved the original game but never played PSP version. what is Welch like in battle?
Honestly, kinda shit. She's a joke character. Fun Private Actions though.
With the whole battle system being retooled though, she might actually be good this time.
She was...kinda bad really, one of the weaker characters. Still. She's fun and cute
She was my first anime crush/sexual awakening fap. Thx for the memory unlock anon
No problem anon
my first ever fap was to her with that loose cleavage pushing her breasts up
And yet....
Fricking Star Ocean 3 kills whatever care i have to play SO1 or 2 again...
Though, im sure you noticed, being as big a fan as I AM....
WE CAN CHOOSE PS1 VOICES!
THAT'S WORTH ABOUT 80 POINTS!
>WE CAN CHOOSE PS1 VOICES!
Holy BASED
No you fricking can't.
You can choose between JP and EN voices. Both from the PSP versions.
Frick you! There is a voice style option AND I BETTER GET MY SHITTY PS1 VOICES, DAMMIT!
Hopefully we'll be able to at least mod them into the PC version
Looks like they are reusing the english voiced lines from the PSP, so it's not a full remake
Too bad, i was hoping they would fix and expand on somethings I didn't like in the original game
At least that means they won't be able to frick up the dialogue.
>looks even worse than 2d-hd
Jesus fricking christ how did they even do it
If you can't manage to get the backgrounds to look good just go full on PS1 nostalgia and at least imitate Xenogears or something.
>a Star Ocean game that looks decent
>not developed by tri-Ace
hmmm, i dunno guys it might be coincidence
From which game should I start in the series?
You could hop in SO2. You can play SO1 (Star Ocean First Departure) for backstory but thats about it
just jump straight to the good ones 2 and 3, then pick whichever picks your fancy next if you don''t get tired. none of them are directly tied.
The salt is delicious kek
>Xbox
>JRPGS
>thinking of buying an Xbox
>look at the JRPG list
>not even bother with exclusives, just check if there's at least as many third-parties as on PS4/5
>immediately give up
If you like jrpgs or Japanese games in general why would you pick Xbox?
3 of the 4 main platforms basically get every Japanese game nowadays and you pick the one that doesn’t
>Star Ocean 2 has an Xbox in it
>but Xbox doesn't have a Star Ocean 2 in it
Xbox seems like a decent pick if you want to play a WRPG, but for JRPGs its total desert.
I only watched the Star Ocean EX anime back then
Rena was cute
sounds like an AI Voice is narrating the trailer
Canonically took Kenny wiener.
No really, first time I played Second Evolution all those years ago, I was genuinely surprised that she just casually dropped that she was riding the Kenny Express and was now carrying his spawn.
playing Second Evolution turned that relevation pretty jarring because she looks like a 10 year old
Speaking of Nedians and fricking
I think it's fricking hilarious that the entries for Expellians in SO3, they note that there's a recent trend in the past few hundred years where there is an Expellian that is born with long ears and amazing symbology affinity. Claude took Rena back to earth with him, so that just means that Noel and Chisato got really fricking feisty with the Expel natives after the events of SO2.
>riding the Kenny Express
Rena's nedian gene too strong, all kennies followed have blue hair
That never happened tho
???
Handle it how? Beyond Fayt's gang, the rest of the universe won't know shit. For literally everyone else, it's business as usual with intergalatic wars and shit.
>how stupid the UP3 is
But it is actually important. The shitshow they found themselves in was because of some frickers haphazardly ignoring the UP3. Be a chad like the Kennys. The UP3 is important, but break that shit when you gotta save the universe.
>The UP3 is important, but break that shit when you gotta save the universe.
The Kirk Method is the best method.
Do I have to play any other games, or is this standalone? Looked great
Standalone story.
Awesome, thank you. What is the general sentiment on the original and do the battle system changes seem good to fans?
Why she have 3 eyes
She's an Ayy
1 eye on ernest, 2 eyes on the streets
will the boob witch be censored?
why is this shit getting so much attention? and why can't infinitely better games like ff tactics, parasite eve, vagrant story or xenogears get the same treatment?
Dumbass
dude I know tri ace made it, but still it feels bad square is sleeping on its own cult classics
>Gears
They have to involve Takahashi for that. It will just open the floodgates for him to snatch the IP.
They wouldn’t have to involve him, and they wouldn’t want to. They own the IP and can do what they want with it. The last thing a Xenogears fan should want is for SE to touch it in any capacity.
>parasite eve,
Its based off a book moron, SE would have to pay the original author license money to get permission to make a new game
>SE would have to pay the original author license money to get permission to make a new game
Well, if I understand correctly, you're saying that the billion-dollar company cannot afford to pay a few million in royalties to the author? Really?
You underestimate how fricking stingy companies are about this. If they have to pay license fees they'll opt to not do so or change it
Even the new Metal Gear collection port changed some aspect because of Konami not wanting to pay for the real life footage all the games used
>vagrant story
FF 16 team is pretty much the guys behind VS / Tactics / FF XII and XIV
if they succeed with this game, expect a remaster to come along pretty soon
>why is this shit getting so much attention?
because finally a good star ocean game gets released and its a fricking remake.
why would the rest of the games you listed get attention? its not like they have been re-released recently.
SO2 is the last SO game everyone agrees was above a 5/10. Every time another SO game flops they touch SO2 again to save the IP.
FFT is a masterpiece but it ain't carrying the FF IP. Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story, and Xenogears are all late 90's Squaresoft IPs that never took off and their creators are either busy milking FF or work at other companies.
never played Star Ocean but this looks really good.
so this is the second one? should I play the first before this?
Forst one is just minor backstory about certain background characters. Its literally just an episode of Star Trek. You can just play 2
Go for it. They're almost unrelated.
The only thing is the hero is the son of one the main character of the first game .
I prefer the pre-rendered backgrounds. I see nothing in here that adds to the original in any way.
>Art style completely abandons the anime feel for this ugly ass shit that makes the girls look terrible
aaaaaand dropped
Filtered
how's First Departure? should I check the PSP version or the remaster?
absolutely, they took away all the SNES shart and replaced it for SO2's exploration and battle system. it feels like a modded SO2 with 1's story.
don't expect the wholesome jank 2 got, but it's a nifty nice-looking little vidya to waste a day or two beating it. pretty short game for a jarpig.
Shit, guess I should try and finish Divine Force before this comes out.
I really liked the OP of the PSP version.
I like e-girl hebe Rena. Frick all of you. The new portraits look like Chinese mobile game art. I like the soft TV anime coloring of the PSP art.
I want them to remake 3 and flesh out the VR fighting sequence to an actual minigame available only at the beginning of the game
>People actually think that ugly portrait art looks good or suitable for designs intended for a 90s anime look
I don't hate the art but it's very incongruous. It looks like you are playing the original game with modded-in portraits.
I honestly don't like the 2D arts
>Seething coomers mad about art
Picked up.
Opera > Ashton
PSP art >>>>>>>>>> The rest.
I will not be oppressed anymore.
Tell em'
>new game announced
>old game suddenly becomes good
classic Ganker drone
More like
>New game announced, with shit art
>Makes me appreciate the old art more
>OLD GOOD
>taking the bait
>again
I'll take the bait
Cool but the first is still chained to ps4? I mean they release just the second?
The first is also on Switch IIRC.
yes unfortunately 1, 3 and 5 are all PS4 exclusives
1 is on Switch too
this is the worst narration for a trailer i've ever heard
Do any of the SO games not take place on an underdeveloped planet?
No
An SO game without a part where they hang around underdeveloped planets? There's none.
Some have more SF stuff than others though.
SO4 has the most non-underdeveloped planet parts but it still has stuff like Roak be a large part of the game.
Rate the Kennys.
Only reason to buy this is if it comes with Blue Sphere otherwise PsP >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Cope
this looks so fricking bad, yet everyone seems loving it.
SO7 will never happen so I'll take what I can get
>will never happen
People said the same after the SO5, but we still got SO6.
Kek zoomers absolutely seething because they don't get the charm of 2D pixel on 3D environment kino
anon, I literally breathe by love for 2D on 3D
this looks like shit
Ys, Disgaea, hell original Star Ocean games looked better.
This isn't even HD2D, it's HIRE THIS MAN + 2D spritework which do not mesh together.
it just clashes so hard with each other.
>it just clashes so hard with each other
It looks good, you just literally don't know the appeal because you're too young.
lol, I mean you are free to eat trash
I've been playing RO with 2D on 3D before you even knew what games are
Should I play 4?
Yes
Reimi is the best part of 4
The devs agree with you reminder SO4 has a pure 3D nude Reimi model because of the devs were that honery for her
>she gets the last kill in a fight
>one of the victory poses has the camera start by her ass and fly around her
Mechanically fun, actually one of the better battle systems.
Raymond was super based honestly one of my favorite SO characters now
Same. After Edge, he was a welcome change of pace and a really entertaining guy.
PEARS INTO PEACHES
Did Albel's art always blatantly show off half his wiener?
> Shit fake pixel characters in HD environments.
Fricking disgusting. Especially when shit zooms in, it looks blown out to frick. Hard pass from me.
What's real pixels then?
The combat looked like tales to me. Has it always been this way?
t. never played star ocean
Yes
yeah but more jank
SO is spammy, which I know is a negative word, but it makes spamming really fun. Tales is more combo-oriented.
ToP and the first SO is almost identical because it's made by the same people. The gameplay diverged when the devs left and ToP ps1 version released making the gameplay more complex and adding fighting game inputs. SO gameplay stayed simple and streamlined but they still have similarities.
And this is why the "it was all a dream / simulation /whatever" shit is always, well, complete shit. Period.
your life is shit then, it's all a big simulation too.
otherwise space wouldn't be so hard to explore and wouldn't be surrounded by a bunch of fake nothing that's hiding all sorts of shit.
I want Square Enix to go out of business and for the Japanese government to step in and seize their headquarters and dump all the top SE executives onto the the streets and then dump grape juice on their expensive suits.
The reason to play this if I played the PSP version is ____
It's not the PSP version.
I asked for reasons to play it not to not play it
It's not the PSP version.
>HEY EVERYONE LOOK I played this before!!!!
no shit, want a trophy? I bet you're the very first one in the entire internet
Meryl's cameltoe.
SO4 is as ugly as it is fun
literally no uglier than the one that just came out
Divine Force's style reminds me a lot of Xenoblade X, so I can forgive its awkward character models.
I only hated the barbie doll heads. The rest was very nice to look at.
>They will never give us another e-girl hebe space alien cat girl with visible cameltoe
Why must humanity continue to suffer?
