The dumber thing is that the only games you actively won't be able to play are shitass Counterstrike Clones.

NTA but >It mogs the dec in every way
Aside from Windows being garbage, the Go's screen is worse than the Steam Deck OLED's, as is the battery life and even the performance at lower wattages.
There is no way 1200 x 800 beats 2560x1600 just because it's OLED. The Lenovo Legion Go has highest ratings for IPS display. You can see pixels in 1200 x 800.
>Windows being garbage,

Not true
>There is no way 1200 x 800 beats 2560x1600 just because it's OLED.
Of course there is, at that size and that PPI OLED matters way more than resolution. Not to mention the fact that you have to lower the graphical settings significantly to even run modern games at 2560x1600 on the Go. >I can play every multiplayer game and I don't need to tweak settings or emulate windows to get my games to work. Same with piracy.. I just direct download .exe games. One step.
In exchange the entire system is shit to navigate. You also don't need to tweak settings or "emulate Windows" to get games to work on the Deck. However it's not even true that you don't need to tweak settings on the Go; there are lots of games that have issues with the Go's portrait mode screen:

>There is no way 1200 x 800 beats 2560x1600 just because it's OLED.
It does when you will be running every AAA game in 800p on said Go and it is a lot more noticable on an 8.8" screen than a 7" screen. Only indie games and older games can benefit from that high a resolution and the battery life will be awful. The best thing about the Go's resolution is that it scales well with 800p so you can use it's extra GPU cores for better performance.

Now if only devs started supporting it instead of releasing bloated PC ports. Valve gave them an option to upload Steam Deck specific builds with smaller textures but so far nobody ever used it, having to download 150 GB games on this thing just to play them at 720p, sometimes with FSR and textures on low, feels wrong.
I'm in the market for a handheld PC. Steamdeck seems to be the front runner, which version should I look to get? And how bad is the battery life really? Got my hands on ROG ally recently, seemed like the ROG app was pretty seamless for launching steam. But everyone says the batter life is terrible.

only if it has a better battry and buttons for the asking price
Will probably be a long wait since people that want enough power will want a larger screen/good controller. Its harder to fit full size sticks on something only a bit larger than a vita (actual good sticks). See if there are any used steam decks on facebook market or whatever for a cheaper price.
the odin 2 has the best design imo. comfortable to hold and not that big with overall good buttons, sadly it's a fricking android device

Unfortunately all the handhelds that fit that description are Chinese, Loki, Air, Air Plus, GPD Win 4 and most of them a bit expensive.
Right now Ayn seems to be selling out their stock of Loki 6600u ($449) and Loki Max 6800u($499) handhelds. Personally I have a Deck and am patiently waiting for a smaller mainstream device.

What indie games are you trying to play in particular? Pic related can emulate the PS2/GC library and run pretty much any indie that got ported to android while being half the price of a deck.
yeah for that I got pic related, it can emulate up to psp for $70 AND I don't have to go through android shenanigans since it has an already configured linux front (waiting for to arrive)
that should keep me entertained until a smallish pc handheld with a reasonable prise exist
Depends on what you're emulating. This is literally the best in class if you're planning on just going to PS2.

I'd actually say the Rog Ally, while on sale, is the best portable handheld hands down. But at full price for like $700? Nah frick that.
The best you'll get is bluestacks.
Will probably be a long wait since people that want enough power will want a larger screen/good controller. Its harder to fit full size sticks on something only a bit larger than a vita (actual good sticks). See if there are any used steam decks on facebook market or whatever for a cheaper price.
Personally I have a Deck and am patiently waiting for a smaller mainstream device.
sorry the reply meant for
What indie games are you trying to play in particular? Pic related can emulate the PS2/GC library and run pretty much any indie that got ported to android while being half the price of a deck.
yeah for that I got pic related, it can emulate up to psp for $70 AND I don't have to go through android shenanigans since it has an already configured linux front (waiting for to arrive)
that should keep me entertained until a smallish pc handheld with a reasonable prise exist
is the steam deck actually worth it? my hacked 3ds is on its last legs so I've been thinking about getting one for emulation
The Steam Deck is the current best emulation machine, at least if you get the OLED.
Its great with a normal one anon. The insides are the same other than the better screen.
The battery is bigger and the APU is more efficient on the OLED, which gives a pretty significant battery life boost. The fan is better, too.
Its really great for emulation anon. https://youtu.be/0mGFknBdeys?t=26
Depends on what you're emulating. This is literally the best in class if you're planning on just going to PS2.
mostly like playing old super nintendo and gameboy games, if it runs ps2 well then it should be perfect for me
And I remain unimpressed.
>don't know what games to play
>sell gaming pc to pay rent
>sell all my steam items to buy steam deck
>"surely this will make me want to play vidya again"
>still don't know what games to play
there's 400+ games in my steam library, yet i can't find a reason to play a single one
Until another umpc understands how to blend convenience with freedom like the deck and does it better, it'll remain unsurpassed.
You think the oled variant will be able to play MH Wilds? Really contemplating on getting one or should I just get an ally?
the apu didn't change between lcd and oled why do you think that
If I can't put it in my pocket, it's virtually useless.
Might as well just get a laptop, honestly.
That the nokia ngage?
*slow clap*
Eh.... Not bad gayben.... not bad at all......
HOWEVER
>I need a full keyboard because...because...?
Because it's still a pc?
how do you boot into uefi?
From the bios
how? what keyboard command on the steam deck do you use to boot into it?
You hold the volume up and power button at the same time
how do you input numbers changing clock settings?
>$699 USD for the shittiest starter model
How about no.
still outperforms the deck, your point?
The shittiest model is better than the deck though.
Performance is shit and is too big for what it offers
But enough about the switch
>unsurpassed
for 'ick?
Is there any good android emulator? I want to play my gachaslop on my deck to finally be able to ignore my phone forever.
So I got a deck a month back or so and I was wondering. Is it possible to like, just grab a game off of [insert completely legal game acquisition site here], transfer it over to my deck and then add it as a non-steam game?
you are just asking for a shortuct there.
Shortcut? You mean like, make a shortcut and link to it?
Yes it is
depends on if the game’s installer wants to install a bunch of shit
>dad says he wants to buy a handheld and asks me advice
>I'm delighted to help him and I recommend the Deck
>likes the images I show him of my 'eck and says he's gonna buy one for himself
you showed him your 'ick on it?
