It seems like a lot of people who romanticize the Japanese MSX library are primarily thinking about later, higher quality MSX2 games with pretty graphics and enjoyable gameplay, while overlooking the fact that an overwhelming proportion of software made for the MSX, certainly the original MSX standard prior to the MSX2, were janky, unfun, and repetitive shovelware that looked like Atari 5200 games. People hear MSX and think Metal Gear, Space Manbow, Gofer no Yabou 2, maybe even Castlevania, but forget that most MSX games were things like pic.
It makes me so mad!

I've had an MSX2 for over 20 years! A Sony HitBit.

Of course you have buddy. That's why you're so upset about this shit that people that totally exist outside your head are doing.

        Seriously, who's romanticizing the MSX?

Clearly the voices in OPs head have been doing it quite a lot.

          >implying
I still have the box, too! Here it is in my closet. I bought this POS decades ago, and even though it was cheap back then, I've never gotten over it.

I've never met someone over 20+ who doesn't know what the word "implying" means, so not buying your story.

So you're under 20, then? Obviously I was indicating that you were implying that I'm a liar, which I am not!

So the same as every 8-bit system then? People hear Famicom/NES and don't immediately go Mahjong, Popeye or Circus Charlie (Also on MSX!) either.

For me though? It's the Colecovision to MSX ports. A perfect example of worldwide globalization making the world a better place.

BlueMSX is old, but still very good. Has a retroarch core if you are standalone averse. Bios packages for it are also easily available.
OpenMSX is new, about as good and should have bios packages now too. Has some newer features, but nothing really important for regular play.

Both are entirely fine, but I'm entirely used to BlueMSX so I can't really judge how easy openMSX is to use for the layman.
