It seems that the consensus is that the underdark expansions are far superior to the base campaign.

It seems that the consensus is that the underdark expansions are far superior to the base campaign. Can they be played as stand-alone adventures or does the base campaign offers some connectivity?

    Play the SoU campaign and then import into HotU, as they are the same hero. The original campaign is standalone and separate.

    HotU is actually decent, SoU is okay, OC is shit. That's the opinion of just about everyone.

      >OC is shit.
      IMHO beginning was comfy, but detoriated fast after act 2.

      Diamond hasn't been reliable since the days of Windows 7 and even then random people would have trouble with it.

        Is there any other way to play a version of Neverwinter Nights THAT ISN'T the Enhanced Edition?

          The campaigns are standalone but there is some continuity between them.
          >The original campaign is pretty much standalone, but some characters from OC will appear in HotU (your main character in OC and your main character in SoU/HotU are different people, so they won't recognize you in HotU);
          >SoU is connected to HotU but it's mostly a "this adventure is over, time for a new one" sort of deal (your character in HotU is the hero from SoU), and you will meet a character from SoU in HotU;
          >fans created a short module to directly connect the SoU and HotU campaigns by extending SoU's ending (part of an old module creation contest);
          Despite all of the above, HotU is a standalone adventure (new place, new friends, new enemies, etc.) so you don't have to worry too much about what happened in the previous campaigns.
          Importing your SoU character to HotU will also import your inventory and equipment, it's not necessary but it's a neat feature.

          Diamond is the only other version available, unless you are looking for the original release or the other packages (Gold and Platinum) but I don't think that will help you.

            Yes, I indeed had the same problem on Win 7 but I thought it could've been the OS being not so well working anymore.

    Is this the only RPG in existence where the "bad ending" is explicitly canon?

    >MC is exiled out of the city.
    >The ruler intentionally removes his involvement from the records, and usurps his accomplishments.
    >One romantic option is executed, and can, in the expansion, end up in a threesome romance with the MC of the expansions.
    >The other two romantic options don't go with him into exile, no matter which one you romanced.
    >In NWN2 there's literally one person who even remembers him/her.

    I wish I could play all those kino old crpgs, but Real time with pause feels just too darn janky to me after Divinity and Pathfinder

      Just play online on persistent worlds where you don't get the pause function, then

      Both NWN games are dead easy, simply due to the fact you can spam rest without any consequences or limitations. You can even rest inside dungeons.

    Did anyone ever play NwN Diamond Edition and played on a server called Mike's BoTD? Or Badlands?

    Correct, but fan modules are better than any of the campaigns.
    Avoid the base campaign completely. It is awful in every way.

    Any good reason not to get the ee ? Isn't it just both games + extensions in one package ?

      >Any good reason not to get the ee ? Isn't it just both games + extensions in one package ?
      There may be some old custom modules/servers that aren’t compatible with it, that’s about all I can think of.

      EE includes the base game, two expansions and three premium modules. Diamond Edition only included one premium module, but I'm fairly sure GoG didn't sell the other modules either so people just downloaded them from NWN Vault (Beamdog sells them as DLC now).
      My Diamond Edition "just works" so I never bothered with EE, but I remember people talking about some old mods/fan-patches/modules not working with EE. No idea if Beamdog ever fixed it, but apparently the remaster still gets updates so there is that.

    Are the custom campaigns always starting level 1? How to find the good ones?
