>It used to be that when I saw a great-looking indie game like Rogue Legacy 2 or vampire Survivors, I would watch a Nintendo Direct with rapt anticipation hoping to see that they were coming to my handheld of choice. Now I have them both and I've been enjoying them for weeks on my Steam Deck. I don't need to "hope it comes to Switch" anymore, because I already have a device that, with its access to the vast PC games library that often gets games first, renders that hope irrelevant.
I didn't even realize how backwards nintendies have it. And they STILL defend their eShop machine? Lmfao

plus it can emulate the switch anyway
Nobody cares about your shitty buggy unoptimized sub 20 fps emulator
>sub 20 fps emulator
Just because the emulator aims to 100% accurately recreate the genuine Switch experience doesn't mean it's bad, quite the opposite
t. never played on switch
No he has actually.
t. Played Astral Chain, SMT V, Xenoblade 2, Hyrule Warriors on Switch
>NONONONONONO THOSE DONT COUNT THOSE DONT COUNT!!!!!
Try emulating those on the deck homosexual.
I have a deck with emudeck installed and optimized settings to emulate most switch games. Running classic platforms like snes/NES/n64 is perfectly fine. But running switch games is really fricking shit, much more so than on the switch itself which is also shit, I know it because I have both.
The only way to run the more demanding games on the deck is by streaming it with moonlight from a gaming pc.
Yeah imagine BOTW but running at 20 fps, good thing that's not the case on original hardware.
Mario odyssey went from 5 fps to 55 in couple of months, cope homosexual
>Cherrypicking
Probably 1 hour battery on both devices and the feeling of holding a small sun
Witcher lasts an hour and a half for me, heat isn't really and issue since your hands aren't close to the heated components and the device is more limited by wattage than heat. Witcher on the switch is about the same but it runs much worse and looks worse.
>let me prove Switch emulation is fine on the Deck by showing native gameplay of a PC game!
>native
that's a Windows game
No one was arguing that the deck's Windows emulation is slow tho...
Wine Is No Emulator
>even their acronyms are recursive
Lul it's not an emulator it's just a piece of software that... Emulates windows.... Pretty sure that name is a joke
it doesnt emulate windows lmao
Have sex.
I have children and can understand how a container works, what's your excuse? A raspberry pi is 10 bucks you can teach yourself.
It's just a compatibility layer. No emulation
Not emulation, moron. That's your cue to double down, by the way.
Now do FALL GUYS on PC vs SWITCH
They don't want to admit the Deck can only play a handful of Switch games correctly.
Nintendo does 🙂
BotW on Yuzu runs fullspeed with the latest Mainline updates. Took them only a few months to sort the major issues, this thing is probably going to run the sequel smoothly before it actually launches on the Switch.
Switch owners play exclusives or are too poor/dumb to have a PC.
Deck owners have a PC and buy another redundant device that play all their games at a shitty resolution, fps and with the worst possible controller out there (even the switch has the pro).
There is mass appeal for the switch. The deck is for niche gimmick toy for neckbeards who don't need it to delude themselves into thinking otherwise for 1-2 years before they try selling it on eBay for $50.
The deck is a fricking flop. No one outside of a small, small minority of PC gamers, those who'd waste hundreds of dollars on a redundant device instead of something actually useful, give a shit about it. It's so fricking obvious when you're someone who doesn't own one. This thing will be dead and buried in 15 months tops.
I think you're right in that Switch will obviously be far more successful than Deck, but I don't know what Valves goals or cost for it are so I don't know about flop. But apart from mass appeal I think Deck is far superior, but I'm also one of those neckbeards. I thought we all were. Why would I care about how popular something is or if my friends are using the same thing?
Poorly
I have a couple of hours left to confirm my order of the Steam Deck and honestly it has lost its appeal. I can't think of a single game I'd rather play on it instead of sitting in front of my PC.
F-Zero GX in bed
Cheaper phones have been emulating this shit fine for years. The Deck has literally no purpose outside of playing PC games at lower settings which is a fine enough reason on it's own, but tech illiterates new to the emulation scene need to stop acting like the Deck is a big leap forward in that realm.
I never finished this game, should I give it another shot I wonder.
it's only for people that find handhelds appealing
This. If you can't see yourself using a handheld then don't get the SteamDeck nor Switch.
Please cancel. morons like you are why I'll somehow get my 64gb in the next 3 months despite reserving a week late.
I have played a dozen amazing games I otherwise would never have played, either because I didn't know I had them in my library or just didn't bother playing anything new.
The idea of sitting at a desk just to play games sucks now that I have a job. I'd rather just go literally anywhere else in or outside the house to play games.
Nintendo consoles will still be made due to exclusives and fanboys. Nintendo pretty much never had as many good games as their competitors and yet they survived. The "PC gaming" market has been superior to consoles for the last 20 years and yet consoles are still made. Steam Deck won't do shit to Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft.
if you like handhelds, thanks to the deck your desktop PC will literally become a dust collector.
if you don't like handhelds, why are you in this thread
I have Steam Deck for maybe 3 weeks.
This is the list of games I finished since. Yes all on the deck, I am a student and I have a laptop that is specialised for my needs of computing more than gayming so I was not playing too much and I do not like to play for a few hours each time I come home for visit. Especially because there is a ton of updates waiting everytime and we have a slow internet at home.
Only Spec Ops: The Line I was like in the middle of the game when I booted it up on deck. It is really comfy to play whenever, whatever and wherever I like.
How was revengeance?
I saw it on sale and thought it'd run great and have good battery on deck.
MGR:R on Deck is surprisingly great. Deck can run it for around 4 hours on high/medium settings. It looks great on it either way.
For example right now I am playing Ruiner and that indie shit is draining battery like crazy and giving me around 1.5 hours battery life. I am glad the game should be over soon xd.
Let me guess, Unity? Unreal?
Not him but yeah Ruiner is unreal engine which is garbage on PC. I don't even play unreal engine games on my 3080 PC since most of them still have shader compilation stutter out the ass.
Probably but at least it runs good even with what toll it takes for it's running.
I am still salty that HROT runs like shit generally on Linux.
Yeah, I've actually tried ruiner myself, runs like a AAA game at ~2 hours battery life, it's crazy.
I also forgot that it was 60 fps. No compromises with this gem.
Replying to myself for you guys.
I like touchpads just for being there but I haven't used them too much and felt like the 2 finger keyboard was worse than with steam controller, but ...
If you see the Detention game there... I have to say the touchpad is superb for point and click games. A lot better than any analog configuration.
Simulated trackball is just comfy.
kino on the go or in bed
i feel the only people who are excited for the Steam Deck have never had a psp or switch
i always get handcramps when i pley them more than an hour
not that i can do a marathon sessions with their battery lifes but still
I have a PSP, a Vita, a 3DS and a Switch and still bought a Steam Deck
It's far better than all of those.
I have a psp at home. 2 things:
> It is made for kiddie hands.
> There is not many good games on it utilizing the barebone controlls.
I was always jealous of Vita, but on other hand Vita had no games.
Steam Deck feels like a normal controller so it is actually comfortable to hold.
I've owned a bunch of handhelds throughout the years but I've never owned a switch or UMPC. The deck is easily my all time favorite, take that any way you want. It's very comfortable to hold but it does start to strain my back after a few hours of playing.
>I've never owned a switch or UMPC. The deck is easily my all time favorite
Take reading comprehension 101 again anon
Hey man, don't knock the older handhelds. I fricking loved my PSP Go.
Porn games, RPGs and VNs in bed alone are worth it.
>RPGs
Name 5.
The witcher, witcher, the witcher, the Witcher and The Witcher
Trails in the Sky 3rd
Ys 8
Skyrim
Valkyria Chronicles 4
Divinity OS2
Mostly played those on my Deck so far. (Trails and Ys are GOG copies)
is it possible to get the Evo voices working on the deck? Coincidentally I've completed trails in the sky 1 and 2 last year, wanted to start 3 on my deck. But without the voices mod working I'll prolly just stream it to the deck from my PC
Played without the voice mod, but appearantly yes
Resell it, idiot

I'm kinda in the same position, it sounds comfy but.... will I really enjoy using it? I really do like KBM and if I'm gonna plug those into this then what was the point?
I'm hoping those steam controller type things on the sides are good after getting used to them, people have said good things about the steam controller.
Otherwise I'm not gonna enjoy playing anything first person that's for sure.
Battery life has me worried too, but I could always get a backup powerbank..
The controls can definitely work very well for first person. Check this out
But it does take getting used to. You're basically starting at zero like a little kid using a mouse for the first time.
You'll also want to put in some time to configure it to your liking as there's no standard way to do touchpad/gyro controls. You'll want to get very familiar with the steam config UI.
t. been using a steam controller almost since launch
Awesome, I'm more than willing to practice to get good with the controls.
Also just answered a couple of my other questions by googling around.
Pretty hype for my deck again.
Just don't expect it to be on par with a mouse. It's not quite there. The main thing is that a mouse has some natural stabilization thanks to friction, you don't get that with gyro so your aim will only be as steady as you can hold the controller/handheld. For singleplayer games I actually really like this as it adds some immersion.
confirm it, then flip it on ebay for $800+
If you don't want it, someone will, and you can make a few hundred on it.
>Tohou fan

No dmc v either lol. Its over.
a deck exclusive is not actually possible since it's just a PC
the closest you could get would be a game that's only available for linux, but iirc you can't actually put a game without a windows version on steam
Pretty sure some madman has released a Linux exclusive game on Steam before.
basingstoke is free for linux users but you have to buy it on windows
that's gotta sting more
CUTE post
>iirc you can't actually put a game without a windows version on steam
Would running the GNU/Linux binary in WSL2 count as a Windows version?
>WSL2
I suppose if you could automate it as part of the install process, sure.
Valve wouldn't care how you got it working in windows for the end use, only that it works.
I watch the directs for the announcement but hell no I'm not playing them on the switch and if it's 1st party I'll pirate on my hacked one lol not like nintendo has good online that I'm missing out on anyways
PC doesn't get half the games first. If you like shitty Western games then go for this awful looking dreck. Everyone knows Japan is still the best for games and they only do console.
it literally does though all those shitch ports like nier you praise have been on pc for years and way cheaper. All you really get are the bing wahoo games which can be emulated anyways
>shitch ports like nier you praise have been on pc for years
And Nier's PC port is shit.
>And Nier's PC port is shit.
Recent patch has fixed it completely, its great now
>PC doesn't get half the games first
True, it gets the vast majority of games first.
>and they only do console.
Is that why Soul Hackers 2 is on PC and every console except the Switch day 1? Massive cope. Enjoy Twewy 2- Oh wait... yeah enjoy the uhh... Dragon Maid bullet hell mobile game. Yeeeaah...
>PC gays get one game at the same time as console for once
>proclaim victory despite good game drought for years
Cringiest videogame players, probably because most of the time you aren't playing games just dickriding the money you wasted
>PC gays get one game at the same time as console for once
sorry, I have trouble hearing you underneath all these "also on PC" titles, might take a while until I crawl out of here
...
...
ok man, move on without me, this might take years
Yes I'm sure you are pinned down under the unoptimised ports that get tossed at you a year or two after everyone else is done. PC muster race lol
>b-but we still got the game
>PC numba 1 ;_;
sorry mate, as I said, can't understand you very well. those ports are really something else nowadays, and there's thousands of them.
You're bragging about Soul Hackers 2. Soul Hackers 2 on PC will not sell as well as SMTV on Switch. Screencap this post.
>Soul Hackers 2
Imagine bragging about kusoge. You can keep that one. Tendiebros have already played the superior game. The only game we wanted was Persona 5. We don't give a shit about any other 3rd party game aside from the ones already releasing on Switch such as Live-A-Live.
>Sony treats jap devs like shit to the point where they're porting games to PC at the same time with console releases
Japs have abandoned the PS5 when Sony completely got taken over by their commiefornia branch. Sucks to be a console user these days, how's the mandatory GTAV upgrade just so you can play on upgraded hardware?
>half
Maybe 10% of console games don't come to PC. Some good games in that 10% but can't have everything I suppose. There are also good PC games that are not feasible to play on a console or have no release.
>first
I can wait.
All the good Japanese games the deck can emulate.
>and they only do console.
Hey anon, how's 2010?
Is nintendo going to nope out of the console market now that they have no niches left?
Are they going to announce a sd competitor with 0.1% of its game amount?
Yes, after making one of the most successful consoles of all time they are going to leave the market entirely because the Steam Deck has sold .5% of the number of Switches sold.
They will up the graphics and put pokemon on it and that will be enough for most
>enough for most
*enough for children
>*enough for children
So enough for most. This is video games, sir
children don't even play it anymore the userbase is all 20s-30s
Children and tons of Nintendo-nostalgic millennials. But honestly even just children would be sufficient. Sony and Microsoft aren't even competing for them
They'll go until they land on the gimmick that kills them.
Not really, people will still buy the next switch or whatever it is, the steam deck legitimately does not threaten them whatsoever, do you really think they can fill that niche and pull significant numbers of users from nintendo when they have issues even shipping out the first few days of preorders?
I like the steam deck more, but we aren't even talking the same audiences or scale.
Nintendo doesn't care about a device that has shipped less than 100k units as a competitor.
Oink oink Eric
>chinks were shilling $1000 6800U as Deck killer
OH NO NO NO NO HAHAHAHAHA
>15w
You see the thing is that to these machines, 15w is gimped, while to the deck, 15w is literally max power.
Good luck pushing 40W on a handheld you idiot.
>Good luck pushing 40W
most of these are like 25-28w default. My gpd max is 28w by default, and that has no problem at all? Why are you talking about this when you know nothing about it? I mean...enjoy your deck, but don't pretend that it's the best thing going and always will be, because that ain't the truth
because they do? They'll have like...90 minutes battery life on full power, but that is apparently just fine now?
>get a whopping 10 fps increase
are you joking? 10fps can mean all the difference. The rest of your post is just weird (and kind of racist) histrionics, like a woman might post
You didn't address the heat issues, which is going to be a real problem for a handheld I imagine, and I guess we'll see if they are.
I'm all for better devices than the steam deck if they actually end up better, it drives things forward and gets us better shit faster.
I probably won't buy them, but if they're as good as you want them to be when their next gen, or the next come by and my steam deck isn't doing as much as I want I'll have something good to buy.
Based on valve's seeming stance on this, I imagine they're thinking rather similarly as well.
>You didn't address the heat issues, which is going to be a real problem for a handheld I imagine, and I guess we'll see if they are.
I have owned almost all of these handhelds at one point or another, and precisely one of them had heat issues (the GPD win 2). Most of them are perfectly fine and don't really even get hot. We will have to see what the new devices are like, but I can't see them being too different. Better, if anything, as zen3+ is going to perform pretty well, from what we see so far.
>Based on valve's seeming stance on this, I imagine they're thinking rather similarly as well.
I find it ironic that this board is so chock full of shills for the steam deck, considering valve literally don't seem to give a shit. If they did, they would have advertised it in a lot more countries. Maybe they will make a deck 2, or maybe it's just some vanity project or weird trojan horse for steamOS, but I don't give a frick. I got a cheap handheld PC off them, so I don't have to give a damn.
And it's a good one. I personally think the loki max will be better though. We'll see
It's seemingly just more raw power, I imagine it's a matter of course that there will be more heat.
We'll see I guess.
>It's seemingly just more raw power, I imagine it's a matter of course that there will be more heat.
also depends on the internals and their power consumption/heat dissipation, etc. Gonna be interesting to see what happens in the next few years.
Also, why the frick would valve advertise to more countries when they can't even meet production for the US?
That'd just lead to a shitshow of people mad they can't get theirs, that doesn't make any sense.
They simply can't source the product fast enough, it's something they've always had issues with, they aren't exactly a big production company like sony, nintendo or microsoft, at least not yet.
>Also, why the frick would valve advertise to more countries when they can't even meet production for the US?
I would imagine those countries would have their own production centres?
>They simply can't source the product fast enough
skill issue, I guess. Everyone else manages it, except valve.
>I would imagine those countries would have their own production centres?
Imagine is right were the frick do you think Decks are made? All China dummy.
>My gpd max
Yikes
Why do you think they will be able to run full TDP without 30 minutes battery life and heat issues?
>double the watt
>get a whopping 10 fps increase at the cost of barely functioning battery
woah, is this the renowned chink technology?
For good reason. Laptops already have shit thermals with larger heat sinks than you'd find in any UMPC. They're also designed to spend most of their time running on power, and experience huge impacts to performance by throttling TDP when you switch to battery as a power saving measure. You put one of those APUs in a tiny handheld and then try to run it at 45W you're not only going to have 25 minute hummingbird battery, but also a fricking fire on your hands, literally.
Van Gogh is an oddity in that is it basically tailor made for a handheld at its power constraints where all of AMD's other APUs are clearly designed for laptops with a 15-45W TDP range. So all of these moronic chinks talking about the newest chink handheld running Rembrandt coming in a year or whatever will conveniently leave out the impacts on thermals and battery it will have when it beats out the deck for performance.
These things are different from laptops though. I have a good gaming laptop, but would never buy another one because I have to keep an eye on quickCPU all the time to avoid it running at max and turning into molten shit trying to play RDR2. These machines are specifically designed with ultra low-power components in very tight spaces where heat dissipation is not just important, but vital.
Literally crying about how they're going to explode or stupid shit like that just makes you sound like you have a weak understanding of these devices. You clearly understand it, so don't sell yourself short just to take a swipe at some chinese people that don't even know what a Ganker is. You clearly know that these devices don't have laptop parts just stuffed in them, or at least you should know that.
At 15W, the 6800U is never going to be faster than the Steam Deck, the CPU is just too big: you're wasting a shitload of power feeding completely useless cores. But if you disable half the cores it should indeed be slightly faster, like 20-30%.
I can't play Nintendo's shitty tablet anymore. Even just navigating the NSO options or eShop feels slow and clunky and the buttons feel cheap and low quality dispite joy-cons costing a fortune. Throw in issues like drift, poor performance, paid online etc and it's easily the worst major system they've done.
Much like the Wii it was a nice gimmick at first but in reality it just sucks
Stop false flagging Snoy cuck
>Calling the eshop and joycons shit is now false flagging
Even the biggest redditors which eat shit off the floor if it has a Nintendo logo on it don't defend the eshop abomination and joycons. What does that make you?
People still buy more indie games on Switch than Steam though.
You sure? Something like V Rising is already at 2 million or so, even Hollow Knight was at more than 1 million before it hit the switch
god V rising is such shit. I hate that it got so many sales
That's because PCgayshave shit taste. Give them power, and we're stuck in a future with Denuvo, the death of games ownership, and having to install multiple launchers that may or may not have access to your personal information. That's why God made BingBingBros and TendieChads to ensure that good games get good sales.
>You sure?
It's usually the case, yeah. The attachment rate for Switch software is pretty high.
Hell, I'm looking at my own sale numbers right now and the Nintendo Switch version has the Steam version outsold 9:1.
What game
Kirby's Adventures
Not that important towards the discussion imo, but if you're really that curious it's that game starring Miyamoto bouncing on suitcases.
What?
Goddommot, fine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3jhmwPEEys
I just didn't want it to overshadow the conversation is all.
>Bing bing wahoo clone
Geee I wonder why it outsold the PC version. Kek.
Fair enough, although our other game sold faster on Switch as well and I'm hearing the same thing from other devs
Okay anon I will give you benefit of a doubt and for once in my life I will believe stranger on the internet that he is what he says.
It is possible that a lot of indie games that are published on switch can outsell PC ports.
I have a simple explanation if it is really the case: marketshare. There is a flood of indie titles on pc and so it is more competitive environment to make some buck. On Nintendo store you have much less indie titles therefore they get bigger spotlight if they are already there.
That's my personal theory as well. Not like it's very hard to get on the Nintendo eShop otherwise I clearly wouldn't be on it, but it's still a higher barrier than Steam.
Might be that, I don't know, I'm not much of a marketer.
I asked like two million times if we could at least add a toggle to fix that but the programmer is an assburger who kept saying no. Maybe if people complain on the Steam forums he'll do it.
Sorry anon, not trying to diss on your game, I just didn't really agree on your sentiment that Indies usually sell more on Switch.
There's a reason why you always hear huge sale numbers from Indies on PC but never when it's on Switch.
>There's a reason why you always hear huge sale numbers from Indies on PC but never when it's on Switch
Do you? I always hear the opposite. This is all kind of anecdotal though, so Iunno.
Yeah? Undertale, Stardew Valley, Rocket League, Among Us, fricking Minecraft
They all started on PC.
What indie game do you hear on switch?
We don't even know what the sales numbers for these games are per platform I'm pretty sure.
nice rixels lmao
Looks cute but I can see why it gets ignored on steam.
The way it's presented is too similar to the other shovelware on steam.
But if you made something like a boomer shooter like dusk or a roguelike then I'd guarantee you it would sell on steam more.
Do you not even know the title to your own goddamn game?
Sony coping hours? sony coping hours.
Why does the switch make Valvetrannies seethe so much?
The Switch is not the Steam Deck's competitor.
The PS5 and Xbox Series S/X are what the potential Steam Deck buyer is considering spending their money on instead of a Steam Deck. If that buyer already owns a PC.
If the buyer doesn't own a PC then the Steam Deck is going against spending that money towards a desktop PC.
>A handheld is not competing with another handheld
>It's competing with home consoles
What?
But you're right in a way, the Steam Deck is not competing with the Nintendo Switch, Valve can barely produce in a year what Nintendo sells in a month.
But this isn't about Valve vs. Nintendo, it's about handheld PCs vs. consoles and their closed ecosystems. Five years from now, who the frick is gonna buy an underpowered, overpriced, zero games Switch 2... when for the same price you can get a Steam Deck 3? Or a Ayn Neo GigaUltra, or a GPD Max 6, or a Lenovo Portable 3rd, or a Samsung Galaxy Gaming.
SteamOS is Android, Nintendo is Symbian.
The steam deck is like twice the size of the switch, both volume and weight. I really like my deck, and have barely played my switch in the month since getting it, but it really is huge.
Deck is pretty much the same size as the Switch if you actually use something like the Split Pad Pro (don't tell me you're playing with joycons in 2022?). No need to tell lies.
>don't tell me you're playing with joycons in 2022
90% of people do, what the frick are you on about.
Same size if both have controls designed for human hands.
Also, you completely missed the point of what I said. It doesn't matter if you think the Steam Deck is huge, because another company will make a weaker but smaller device. And another will make an even bigger and faster device. And then another will make something else entirely. Just like Android phones.
This isn't about Deck vs. Switch, it's about PC vs. consoles, open ecosystem vs. closed ecosystem. Valve isn't trying to become Sony and Nintendo by making another console, they're trying to become Google by making the "Android of PC gaming."
>Same size If i add the bulkiest third party peripheral available
Stop being so fricking dishonest
>Same size if I add something that make playing in handheld mode for more than 20 minutes viable
Yes, what didn't you understand? Are you boasting about using the worst handheld controls ever made lacking even a proper dpad as some kind of a positive feature of the Switch or what?
This was true for me anyway.
I'm less tempted than ever to get a PS5 now that I have a steam deck and can play a lot of my steam, gog, itch and epic games on it when I'm chilling on my couch.
>steamdeck thread where they have to talk about nintendo
>doesn't talk about how gaben quite literally bait and switched them
What? Enlighten me please.
ANON NO, IT'S A TRAP FOR THAT ARTIFACT GUY TO COMPLAIN
https://www.gamebyte.com/steam-deck-receives-a-downgrade/
>According to reports, the SSD has been changed, compared to what was originally advertised by Valve. Initially, the 256GB and 512GB models were shipped with a PCI Express 3.0 x4 SSD. However, more recent models have instead shipped with a PCI Express 3.0 x2 SSD.
OHNONONONo
Oh no. I need to buy a 64 GB switch to run games from SD card now that I have been scammed :-(.
But for real thanks for letting me know.
How much of a difference does that actually make?
doesnt matter, its false advertisement and value should be sued
It ain't though because they changed the specs sheet when they made the change.
Shut the frick up you uneducated tendie.
none because the cpu isn't rated to make use of those higher ssd bandwidths anyway
Zero, but it's the fact the didn't say anything and hoped no one would notice that is pissing people off. If they announced it beforehand, no one would care.
Nier on PC has been fixed a year ago. This is how it runs on the Steam Deck: https://youtu.be/IHlsgVkn0oA?t=106
I feel like Valve is just too honest with they're extremely specific specs page. Swapping out parts like that is incredibly common with any hardware. Be it for cost cutting or availability. Remember the PS5 fan lottery or the 3DS screen lottery? If Valve had just put a generic "512gb SSD" in the specs like other manufacturers do no one would give a shit if theirs was 2x or 4x because it doesn't matter.
>valve literally fricks people
>shills call them honest
I'm saying they were too honest in even specifying what kind of SSD was in there. If they had kept it generic like other manufacturers do no one would have given a shit about them replacing parts because that's a perfectly normal thing to do.
It has no impact on performance. I heard that it could improve the battery life to have fewer lanes, but that could be cope.
It's cope. It offers a whopping 0.3% improvement on battery.
Also, hilariously, they said that it was not possible to use that extyra bandwidth on the deck, then they had to walk it back and say it could use it in "uncommon situations"
I'm glad my model has 4x lanes and the good fan then
Enjoy it. As a Q3chud, I also expect to be a 2xcuck and a fansneed too. Feels pretty awful, man. I might sell it, if that's the case. Frick that, I ain't dealing with that shame
It improves battery a bit, yeah, but not by much. You won't ever notice the difference as a user.
>NO REFUNDS
got mine last week, just checked now it's x4 feels good
Are you trying to say that... GameByte is lying?!?!
But still, PCI Express 3.0 x2 SSD is better than a Micro SD like on the Switch.
Not to defend a bait and switch obviously, but it just highlights how much better the Deck is.
>better than a Micro SD like on the Switch.
Most people are going to be using both forms of storage regardless. Even with the biggest model, 512GB is fricking nothing.
The problem is that while the shitty switch has a shit tier storage space, they have fricking physical cartridges to circumvent storage space clutter. I cannot justify having like 50gb already spent on my 256gb steam deck without even taking the OS taking space, it's gonna go the original PS4 route again with the storage space and I'm gonna hate that I'll have to keep uninstalling and reinstalling games I wanna play
I know I'm old fashioned for wanting the option of physical media on the system but it's just so much more reliable around.
>Physical media for PC gaming
You're a fricking relic, gramps. Get with the times, no-one uses optical drives for PC gaming anymore. Unless you use flash USB to boot up games there
That's still the same problem as the switch though and with even less solutions because PC game storage compression is still dogshit. After a while it just gets tiring having to buy extra shit just for ease of usability.
>and with even less solutions
I'm asking again, how is having games on any hard drive less of a solution than hoarding useless plastic like a mentally unstable person?
I had a pretty big fire at my house close to 7 years ago that completely destroyed every single physical DS, PC and SNES game I owned that was located in the room where the fire spread to. Close to 40 games gone with no way back.
Meanwhile I took my extremely damaged hard drive to a data recovery service and they managed to retrieve every single piece of important personal data I had on it. And even that was purely my fault, if I had set up some external backup service or even cloud service, I wouldn't even need the data recovery services in the first place.
Because I can also do that on my switch. It's the same shit and I have less ways of managing clutter on my system. I don't give a shit if you lost your physical shit, I just like the fact I can take whatever game card I want and play it.
> I just like the fact I can take whatever game card I want and play it.
Yeah and I don't need to do that because I have a NAS setup at home with thousands of games. Also makes my room free of clutter created by ugly Switch cartridges and their plastic packaging making it look like a soi "mancave".
true, that's the one thing switch has that the deck does not. not enough for me to prefer the switch, but to each their own
>Having a shitty CD is more reliable than having any type of external storage that lets you recover it even in cases of extreme damage by water or fire or used in RAID setups
Do retro hoarders or useless plastic toys really believe this crap?
Get a 1tb SD card like I did, problem solved.
moron, just get an SD card or even an external SSD
>Nintendo doesn't do their usual June direct but a single game direct and partner mini.
>Feel such anal anguish that you must use multiple avenues to indicate that you totally like Deck way more, guys.
Two more weeks, right bro?
Who cares? I'm just saying it's a bit silly and transparent given the timing. Got to bait some clicks put from the people who may be grumpy about the missing Direct. It's like Kotaku b***hing out about Nintendo not acknowledging them and opting to praise Metroid Dread emulation right around release day.
That's such a dumb take. Only a few thousand people actually own a Deck. Directs are still appealing and get high views because the vast majority of people play on Switch. It's easy to get, has a decent library, cheaper, has an option for physical games, and you don't have to be put on a wait list.
I'm going to bust an artery
>the deck is just an indie machine
I fricking new it
You guys spent over 2 the price for a heavy brick to play indie games.
I don't think I've even installed a single indie game on this thing unless you consider sniper elite to be indie.
2 the price of what?
>the deck is just an indie machine
And? What other handheld lets me play modded Terraria, Noita, Factorio (also with mods), Grim Dawn, Battle Brothers Lrgends and Highfleet?
Any GPD, AYA, ONEX or AOKZOE device
Yeah, let me play fricking Factorio without a good mouse replacement.
Oh, look. He's moving the goalposts AGAIN
Mouse emulation is superior, or use a touchscreen, Black person
>Mouse emulation is superior
with an analog stick? is this a joke?
anon, trackpads have been normie tier garbage for the last 20 years
You have clearly never used a deck because the trackpads add ridiculous levels of control thanks to steam input with things like mouse regions and radials.
Yeah, wanting to be able to actually play the games well instead of just being able to run them is moving the goalposts, sure.
Yes, adding further (subjective) criteria is the very definition of "moving the goalposts", imbecile
The games playing well is implied. Sorry you can't into reading comprehension.
>reading comprehension
>implied subjectivity
ah, but the steam deck just isn't as beautiful and truthful as the PSPgo, so I am afraid that we have to go with the pspgo on this one. Sorry, not sorry. Shame your deck just isn't beautiful enough.
Why aren't you using the touchscreen for point and click games? Why add extra steps when the patrician choice is right there already?
Because that shit's imprecise. Why do you think all the buttons on phone systems are huge?
>imprecise
if a point and click game requires precision of this magnitude, it's a fricking terrible point and click game.
You can play RTS games pretty comfortably with the trackpads. And by comfortably, I don't just mean using them as a pretend mouse, I mean intuitively controlling mouse heavy UI elements with mouse regions as if they were designed to be used that way in the first place. You can't do that with analog mouse emulation. The trackpads are invaluable.
?t=581
Okay anon I will try it. Was waiting for the dock to be released before I jump into my strategies.
I like to see what is happening on screen and also it is comfy to hold the handheldnwith both hands more than having it as a glorified smartphone.
>Mouse emulation is superior
Mouse emulation is so superior that there are literally zero (yes zero) videos of anyone using any of those devices for playing mouse intensive games. And even if you find a rare video, it's someone playing docked with an actual mouse.
>there are literally zero (yes zero) videos
>And even if you find a rare video
what a pointless post.
Why the frick are you pretending that you're enjoying factorio on a 7-inch screen in the first place?
Because he needs to fuel console wars on Ganker.
I'm pretty sure I could enjoy building a factory on a screen even smaller than that.
>I'm pretty sure I could lie about hypotheticals to defend my favourite corporate toy ALL DAY
I'm sure you could too.
I don't see how this would not be an enjoyable experience.
The screen seems more than large enough.
>obviously painful controls where you have to stretch all over the fricking place to play it
horrible.
>oh god I have to move?
>no, my flabby fat fingers can't do that. I'll watch a movie instead
Literal cope post
Show me someone playing Factorio on one of your chink devices.
SIX YEARS AGO
kek
>doesn't even build anything, just walks around
>controls still seem like awkward, slow dogshit
nice job, you played yourself
>it doesn't count because IT JUST DOESN'T OKAY
You are moronic, and you flail like a moron.
The whole point is that the controls on the Steam Deck are superior for these kinds of games. Your shit video doesn't even show of the controls because the guy isn't doing shit in the game but walk around and open the inventory once.
You are a fricking idiot. Nobody cares what you think is superior because your bias is so fricking transparent, and you are so angry that you're getting heated at the VIDEO itself.
What a joke. You lose, get fricked.
>you lose
The only people that lose are the ones trying to play mouse games with an analog stick such as yourself. Couldn't be me.
>Couldn't be me.
Thanks for the low IQ dogwhistle, at least now I know to ignore you
While you're at it, try to ignore threads that don't have anything to do with your chink hadhelds in general instead of peddling your trash in them.
It doesn't count because loading a save from PC and running around is not "playing" Factorio.
I can literally do that on my 50$ phone, start Factorio from Steam Link App and run around with the touchscreen controls.
So I guess that means that Factorio is playable on a phone with touchscreen controls, which brings up an interesting question, why are you shilling 1000$ devices that do what my 50$ phone can?
>It doesn't count because
Why would you type a paragraph of cope like this?
Why are you shilling 1000$ devices that are worse than my 50$ phone?
>he's gonna repeat this desperate cope for the next 100 posts
Look at this, Factorio on a phone with touchscreen controls.
Your 1000$ device outdone by a phone you can get for 50$. Seethe and cope Zhang.
>99
>normie is angry that people in the know could do six years ago what he thinks is magic now
absolute ZOZZLE
>IT DOESN'T COUNT!
Embarrassing post.
See
Sweet post, anon.
>It doesn't count...because it doesn't count
Why are you moving the goalposts Zhang?
>3:00
>he misplaces something due to the controls
doesn't look like that great of an experience imho
>NOOOO YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO WATCH THE VIDEOOOOO
Yah let me just buy a 3x more expensive device to get 3x worse experience because I'll be forced to use awful gamepad aiming and mouse emulation with those crappy Joycon-like analog sticks in Noita, Factorio and Battle Brothers. I'm ordering 5 Aya Neos right now after being enlightened, thanks Zhang.
>Zhang
do deck shills really?
Seethe and cope Zhang
I dont have a steamdeck but it's a good point, mods massively increase the life of a game
I just played 3 hours of diablo in my bed on dexk while watching shitty netflix in background. It cant be more comfier than it
how many funkopops do you own? Please be honest.
Five but I dont see what that has to do with anything
Nice! Which ones?
Zero. I have few anime figures tho
>I have few anime figures tho
if they're not kotobukiya, they're not acceptable
Jelly how did you install it?
Kek
Wholesome
Downloaded battle launcher, add as non steam app through desktop mode and launched through gaming mode in proton 7 compat mode. Installed game etc and it runs now
Based thanks. Controls work fine?
Im still fiddling with them, but protondb has setup guides. Atm i have triggers for slepps and im using right trackpad for movement. So its alright
D3 doesn't support gamepads at all for whatever reason despite the game being ported to every console in existence, so you will have to use kb+m setup and play around with mouse region trigger setups to get a smooth experience, but it's certainly possible.
For example if you want gamepad style movement you set up left analog stick as a mouse region of certain diameter around the center of the screen (since your character is always in the center), and then set an automatic edge command that sends continuous left mouse click when the edge of the region is hit with the cursor.
In practice this means that for example you move the stick up, this moves the mouse on your screen up from the center of the screen where your character is and sends a left mouse click command on that spot - and your character moves up. Flick the stick to the right - mouse goes right inside the region, sends click command, character goes right, etc.
Thanks a lot. Since I have yet to try anything non steam on the deck I was not tinkering too much with inputs.
Usually default or community controlscheme worked fine.
I really dont get the point of the Deck, or handhelds in general really, if I want to play on my couch I can just steamlink to my PC and play there with any controller I prefer.
In what situation would I not be able to do that?
College, Trips, Work trips
Things that neets don't know.
>College
What sort of college do you go to where you cant just have PC and a TV?
>Trips, Work trips
I guess if my work required me to travel every other week and I'd have to stay in hotel rooms on my own I would understand it, but thats a small minority of jobs.
I live at a small dorm and I preffer using laptop because I usually have to also take my work to school (CS degree). But I will be buying extra monitor soon, altough desktop pc would be spatial overkill for my place.
Personally I'm in it for the exclusive first-party games, but I've been disappointed by Nintendo hardware fairly consistently since the Gamecube. I'd like Nintendo to try to keep up a bit more with Sony and Microsoft's grunt, not for their sorts of titles like FIFA whatever, but to give those first-party titles more performance headroom.
But the truth is that Nintendo's not going to go in that direction, because their formula works for them in the marketplace. The Wii U was a misstep mainly because of its naming, but the Wii and Switch sell like hotcakes.
I kind of want a Deck, but the handheld mode of the Switch didn't really grab me in the first place, and I don't know what I'd play on it that I wouldn't prefer to play on my desktop.
pretty much
I never cared about getting indies on the switch. they were always overpriced anyways and I missed out on shit like more customizable controls and other steam features
I've got a deck though since my old desktop is shit and I enjoy playing in bed. switch is for nintendo games. of course I haven't really been interested in most nintendo games lately but eventually they'll release something for me...
Steamchads be like
I am trans btw
All these arguments of DECK Vs SWITCH.
Simple reality is that if you enjoy games deck is better option for you, switch has some Nintendo games but that's it, while deck is just pc with games you can get as soon as they are released and in such a veriaty that no console will ever be able to compete with.
Steamdeck lite when? Its too fricking big
What's the chance of getting a quiet fan?
0% now. They're gone. Valve has decided that it's a "software issue", so they just gimped the shit fan's curve in an update
i got the good fan and mine came a week ago
>everyone falseflagging and doing switch vs deck shitposts
>well it can't emulate switch really and it's not as good as a desktop etc
>seethe cope valve bad
>my 1k chink device is better
And here I am just amazed I can play shit like L4D, TF2, and so many older PC games on a handheld at 60fps and somehow really good feeling controls with trackpad and gyro. This thing is such a beast for emulation too. For the price I can't see how people would dislike it considering the freedom and power it provides for a handheld system.
Even linux is growing on me as a wingay too.
This is what paid content looks like, kids.
>you can't enjoy a new piece of hardware because... you just can't okay!
>enjoy a new piece of hardware
>literally advertise a new piece of hardware on Ganker
Yeah, yeah. And all I want for Christmas is a PSP
I don't give two fricks if there's another person on the planet buying one, I think it's a good device and it's a shame nobody can talk about it without shitposter schizos infesting every thread.
If you can have daily gaypass, switch/ps5 sales number threads, coomer threads, unironic advertising like Fortnite and shit infesting the board, there should be no reason people can't talk about a device that literally the goal of it is to allow the freedom of a PC in handheld form.
You can literally pirate shit on this thing without jailbreaking or modding. That is not the norm for new hardware on a mainstream level.
>my shilling isn't the problem
>it's those insidious schitzos arguing agains it
why not get fricked, tho? Nobody is gonna pat your ass for marketing the deck here, prick.
>I have entered a thread about something I dislike
>wtf why are people talking about thing I dislike how could this happen!
meds now
>I have entered a thread on Ganker
>noooo people are being rude to me and not letting me give my full marketing pitch! nooo, they can't get away with this
you know, champ. I know a website that might be more your speed..
>I don't give two fricks
>goes on to give a completely un-asked-for marketing pitch for the deck
That's just how nu-Ganker is, you can't genuinely like anything or you're a shill, you have to be just as miserable as me and hate absolutely everything, and if you don't you are marketing something.
You can no longer talk about things you enjoy here, kind of the whole point.
anon, you can like what you want, just don't use obvious marketing speak in here and shill things. it's VERY simple.
I'm not that guy, I just hate you, and hate what this place has become, you deserve to eat shit and you will since you browse this festering waste dump.
At this rate I wouldn't even be surprised if reddit is unironically a good place to go and all the monkey see monkey do parroting you do telling people to go there and that this is the shit hole of the internet has somehow caused irreparable damage.
I hope you gargle on a bag of dicks you piece of shit.
>I hope you gargle on a bag of dicks you piece of shit.
if you are saying this to someone who simply had the audacity to argue against your obvious marketing posts, you are part of the problem.
I have told you once already that I am not that person, I'm a passerby sick of this stupid ironic this ironic that hate everything or you're a shill attitude, you know damn well that it infests this site worse than it's already infested by marketers.
I hate every single one of you.
I genuinely hate you, this place used to be something, I genuinely hope you have the most horrible life possible you miserable pile of dick shit.
Once again, you are the problem. Stop posting your marketing shit, please.
I am just going to stop replying to you, you are beyond help, I might as well and maybe am talking to a bot.
I don't know if there's any degree of policy or enforcement that can save this site now, hell, it was probably intentionally sabotaged since it was an actually relatively free place to speak.
Maybe it's actually hit rock bottom and I can finally be free of this place, maybe I should be thanking you for making it bad enough that I won't have any regret or compulsion to come back here and see what I'm missing or take part in things.
You have literally cried and sperged at me defending your little shill buddy and his shit marketing pitch for like 20 minutes now. Frick off.
>inb4 that guy feigns ignorance and asks you to argue the shit over what "marketing speak" is for the next 100 posts
this place is so tiresome. Most people here are shills or here for consolewars. unironically the only good thread about these things are the chinky handheld ones
>most people here are shills, the only good threads are the ones about the devices I shill
>the devices I shill
have I mentioned a single one in this thread?
I don't know. You might have noticed that this is an anonymous website. I don't know which posts are yours.
I've got one more day to decide but I'm still not crazy about it. I'm sure Valve will drop all support for it immediately like they did with the Steam Machine, Steam Link, Steam Vr, etc. I've got a GPD Win Max that I used to love but don't play much anymore.
Those are all still supported and Steam Machines are just PCs.
Steam Machines are the inly shit that is unsupported because not only it is running older steam os but it was expensive third party products.
The only thing Deck killed is the chance for a switch pro model. Which is a shame because they literally could've done it with the OLED but didn't.
>the same 2 posts of people who own it
>no new images of people who own it
this is how you know it is a shill thread
As opposed to the same Metroid Dread GPD Win being reposted for 6 months, and literally 0 pictures of any chink other handheld.
Are you trying to say 200% more people own the Deck than all chink handhelds combined? Really makes you think
The thing is, any one of us can post a chinky handheld like this, because people actually own them. zero decks being posted.
>Posts a literal Android phone in a thread about UMPCs
I can post my phone running that same game too, go figure Zhang
Ok, I guess you want to go there.
Oh? Is the western media finally getting up from their couches to try and put Nintendo out of their misery again? This has been quite the cycle from the Gamecube.
The deck is cool, I can play a few Xbox gamepass games I like on it and the occasional Valheim with friends but I'm personally more excited to play MH Rise with friends again. Played it on switch with friends, loved it, got it on steam again to play in 60FPS and looking forward to sunbreak
Why would anyone buy this shit when you can get a gaming pc cheaper to play the same things?
No one who uses this goes outside.
>cheaper gaming pc
was the last gaming pc you built before the crypto craze?
I'm certain without looking you can get a cheaper pc with the same power as a steam deck.
>I'm certain without looking you can get a cheaper pc
CBA to check again but afaik you can't. The deck is apparently pretty good for its price.
And I'm certain that you can't use that PC in ha
ndheld mode, making it not a viable alternative for a Deck. Got any more extremely low IQ takes for me to dismantle?
You really cannot even if you ignore the fact that, for a PC, you need to separately buy a display and a controller, which would reduce your budget by over 100 USD. Not to mention a PC isn't portable.
The Deck even outspecs laptops which go for $800-$1000.
>have to buy games separately for his shitty switch and only access games on that console, nowhere else
>buy a portable PC which can play all the hundreds of games you already own and won't "reset" your library with the next generation of the console, plus emulate most consoles without voiding warranty, ultimately saving hundreds if not thousands of dollars and getting a magnitude of hours of entertainment more
Really tough choice
The SD card will be fine for most cases. Get the cheapest option and in the future, if you ever need to, you can easily replace the internal storage.
Why would I buy a gaming PC when I already work in front of a PC for up to 12 hours a day. Are you gonna try to convince me that sitting in my garden on a breezy summer evening playing HoMM3 on my Deck is somehow worse than sitting in front of the screen in my room?
>>No one who uses this goes outside.
You don't speak for all, homosexual
>Advice from convicted felons
really? what happened?! QRD
>Get the Deck
>Use it in public to listen to music while reading a book while discussing philosophy on an online philosophy forum
What now?
>battery dies within 30min
tough luck
>He failed first grade math
Yikes
Do you keep looking for someone playing their deck/switch in public? If so, what a creepy stalker.
i am not play video game
i am on business call
10/10
Im excited for mine.
Why is Ganker so obsessed about the deck? Shills, shills well ye okay but what's the point? It's impossible to get your hands on that thing period anyway. For me, anything that puts PC gaming in the spotlight is good. Aside of that the frick do I care some gay paid 700$ to be a manchildren with his gameboy in front of everyone (yes because that's how ppl perceive you).
Steam cultists like to seethe over nintendo, also playstation, microsoft, epic game store, intelligence etc
Was talking about the other way around but well okay. What are steam gays seething about? As a PC gaymur exclusives lowkey piss me off but it has gotten way better compared to the last decade
Ganker just needs something to hate. A company pushing Linux gaming and bringing x86 handhelds into the mainstream is just the right thing.
Ye right. I don't particularly sympathize with Valve for all the cancerous shit they've initiated but nobody has helped PC gaming more than them
I might get one when it’s available to ship in 3 business days. Imagine buying something that you have to wait 8 months for.
It'd never gonna be available in your third world shithole anyway lmao
>Norway
>3rd world shithole
>Can't buy the Deck
So I was 100% right lmao
>Hour battery life
Frick off steam shills.
>Fails at basic grade 1 math
I thought asians were good at math?
Should I get one?
this is a marketer link so they can track how many people open it from Ganker
god i fricking hate games media
What’s the wait time on one of these right now? Is it shorter if I buy the most expensive one?
>Is it shorter if I buy the most expensive one?
The exact opposite
Steam controllergays, I apologize
I thought the trackpads were a total meme but I have the Deck now and unironically want a controller with these for my desktop. It's suprisingly intuitive and useful paired with sticks
>tfw still no Steam Controller 2 based on the Deck
I wish they worked in the basic interface, or that you could use steam's customizable controls there, but seems like it's only in game.
I've gotten pretty used to them and the r2 for click, would be nice for navigating the store, especially.
You can in Big Picture. I'm sure these options are somewhere in the new UI as well.
forgot pic
Turns out you can use the new UI on desktop I can pretend to have a deck now but I couldn't find a way to configure controls for the UI. Seems like that feature didn't make it over (yet).
The deck controls feel a lot better than the steam controller's. Overall build quality is much improved. The SC was a good proof of concept/prototype but it suffers from lack of a proper dpad. If Valve released a Steam controller 2 with two thumbsticks, two track pads the 4 back buttons and a decent dpad
I'd buy 4 in a heartbeat.
you can use it if you hold down the steam button but I know what you mean
>pay $600 and wait a year for shit deck to be delivered (read: be stolen by fedex Black person)
>walk into a store and pay $150 and walk out with a switch lite right away
Hmmm difficult choice
STEAM DECK CHADS I KNEEL
Is it worth buying the more expensive model with the SSD? Or is it better to just get a really fast SD card for the cheapest model?
>Is it worth buying the more expensive model with the SSD?
Are you willing to open it up and replace the SSD yourself? If yes the only thing the 512gb model has over the others is the matte screen if you're into that.
I say go for the 256 ssd. Unless you can trust yourself not to frickup something inside opening it isn't very viable to do and the replacement SSD will cost you anyway.
I have a 256GB and it's just not enough for modern games. go for 512 unless you feel comfortable opening it up and replacing the SSD yourself.
Things are looking up for us Deckbros
>got a deck on release
>haven't used it since
How does it handle GameCube emulation? Probably the only thing I want a deck for since switch handles everything else
It's amazing with Dolphin, though I'm not sure if it would be worth it to buy a Deck just for that. Aren't there cheaper handhelds that are more than capable of doing that?
I am emulator moronic and it runs almost everything perfectly at 2x res out of the box, I've really enjoyed emulating gamecube on it, it's what I have the most games for on there other than steam.
What are some good Gamecube games?
Wind waker
Mario sunshine
Starfox adventures
Eternal darkness
007 nightfire
Smash bros
Kirby air ride
Any more? Haven't owned a console since n64.
Uhhhhhhhhh off the top of my head
Metroid prime 1/2/3
Wave race: blue storm
Fire emblem
I'd say Metal Arms: glitch in the system but the best version was on original Xbox not GameCube so you'd have to emulate that too
Or just play the cube version if you want but it's a big graphics downgrade
Thx anon.
No prob, GameCube was back in the days where if a game was platform exclusive it was almost guaranteed to be a banger and it had a fairly small library so pretty much everything was a 7/10 or above, most games on there you can't really go wrong.
>was about to buy a switch and would have to rebuy my indie library in order to play them on the go
>got a Deck instead, didn't have to rebuy anything, also can pirate switch games and can emulate all retro games
That was close!
Which steam deck to get? Is it easy to upgrade the SSD?
256gb+1tb micro sd is best bang for your buck imo. 64gb HDD is not great since you will want a SSD for the OS, 512gb is a huge markup and its really not that much more space. The screen glare cover is moot and you might not even want that at all.
It does not seem "easy" to upgrade the SSD unless you're used to pulling apart your devices already, it's not going to be as easy as PC upgrades.
>It does not seem "easy" to upgrade the SSD
It's just an M.2 Slot. Modern mainboards use the same just with longer cards.
The only thing that might be tricky is undoing the case since it uses clips. But as long as you have some thin piece of plastic like a guitar pick it ain't hard.
Also the 64gb isn't an HDD but eMMC, just a slower SSD.
You just know people are going to frick up their Decks this way, most people aren't savvy with opening up smaller electronics.
one of the Steam Deck designers had to warn people not to use a mod that lets you install larger sized SSDs
https://twitter.com/lawrenceyang/status/1540809830000013313
The hardware developer said on twitter if you try to swap out the ssd for a bigger one the shelf life of your device will massively shorten because they weren't designed for other models
>rogue legacy 2
>great
remember that one day that people bothered talking about that shit game with terrible art?
>rogue legacy 2
It was a bit fun even if it had many flaws, pirated it tho
bros.
mine is coming in today.
Cool, I got mine about a month ago and it's been my favorite device I've had in years, I play practically everyday.
If you want to do emulation, make sure you use emudeck, saves you like 2 hours of work to set things up
I've been using standalone emulators ever since mine arrived but I'm starting to regret that, seeing how different games have different optimal conditions (like Mario Odyssey running better with the a fixed GPU clock and Breath of the Wild running kinda worse with the same settings). Might have to start using Emudeck soon
If I were to reserve today how long would it take until it arrived in the EU?
They are still on the first 3 days of preorders, so probably like mid 2023
This cant be right LOL what a joke
I ordered in the first 4 hours and got mine a month ago, I don't think it's an over exaggeration
There were over a million pre-orders pretty quick, and they're only at about 300k shipped out right now. At the doubled production rate they'll get another million or more units out before the end of the year. That's going to work through the backlog and let them start getting units out more quickly after reservation.
Given that they just added Japanese and Korean support they'll also likely open up orders for some new regions soon.
Around November
The deck is objectively the superior handheld system. You buy a switch solely for the nintendo exclusives, that's all there is to it
Imagine only owning a Nintendo device for video games, you fricking miss out on 95% of games lel
only Japan makes good games
I can't imagine the poor sods who bought a switch just to have a portable option for their PC games. I hacked my switch just to pirate them and even that was miserable when games that should be doing 60 are forced into 30 and Moonlight sucks shit even with a decent connection.
Dolphin is stuttering occasionally on my Deck, what settings should I mess around with to improve it?
What games are you playing? Make sure you check their Dolphin wikis to see if there are any recommended settings. Luigi's Mansion runs better with dual core emulation disabled for example.
Tried a variety of stuff at 720 (2x res). Mainly Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Heroes for shits and Nightfire.
I guess I should try 1x but damn does stuff look crisp with the higher res. Installed Emudeck and going from there with Emulationstation.
I've been using the Dolphin flatpak instead, not sure if that's the reason why I've been having a smooth experience. I know for certain that there's a world of difference between the Appimage and the Flatpak of Yuzu for example.
I got Timesplitters 2 and future perfect working on my Deck, this thing is pretty cool
Deck owner here, AMA.
My experience so far:
PROS:
>runs shitload of games
>superior controls to any other handheld
CONS:
>gets hot pretty quickly
>battery drains in an hour if you play anything unoptimized (even some shitty old ass games drain battery fast)
>UI is laggy as frick
>touchscreen feels very close to Switch
>You can just put your Switch in the bag with other stuff. This big frick takes the whole bag
>There's a chance your achievements won't unlock if you aren't online
>RUST doesn't work on it
>liar here, AMA
>projecting
mhm. I give you twenty minutes before you start talking about the deck is "great and all, but the AYA LOKI LOOKS GREAT GUYS WATCH FOR IT"
You chinks are insidious
Sorry friend, claiming that a 40Wh battery will drain in an hour when the absolute max consumption of the Deck is 25W exposes you as a liar indeed.
Brush up on your grade 1 math skills next time so you can sound more believable.
How the hell are you able to play Gothic? I wanted to do that but I couldn't figure out a comfortable input layout. Mind sharing yours or recommending one from the community?
dude, you can play gothic easily even on a normal gamepad. The game is practically made for it with it's keyboard-only controls.
Thing is, my first time playing it was on the Deck itself and I couldn't figure out what the hell was going on seeing how there's no way of knowing what key is mapped to what without getting a headache. I guess I'll have to play it on my desktop first to get used to the layout.
Same poster, just wanted to mention that I've done the same with The Witcher 1 and it was a breeze in comparison. I'm actually having a lot of fun with it
The controls are definitely unusual. Basically CTRL acts as a modifier to do any action so put that in an easily accessible spot like a shoulder button. Other than that the main gameplay is mostly arrow keys, so put those on your directional input of choice. Then secondary stuff like the inventory and weapon selection can go wherever.
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I'll give it another shot after I'm done with Witcher 1
This page explains the controls pretty well
https://strategywiki.org/wiki/Gothic/Controls
What you could also do is not have a ctrl modifier but just bind buttons on your gamepad to macros that push both ctrl and a direction together for a more conventional setup. So for example the A button would be ctrl+up for most ingame actions.
How do I do that? It took me a while to figure out how bindings work and I got to the point where I can add extra inputs and assign them to long presses and so on, but I still haven't figured out macros yet. Man I fricking love Steam Input
Just adding an extra command should work
Ah frick, it was THAT easy. Thanks!
this guy walks you through them pretty well, teacher by profession
Thanks, I'll watch all of these
You so realize you need to post timestamp too right?
>touchscreen feels very close to Switch
What do you mean by this?
It feels unresponsive just like the Switch does at times. Especially in Desktop mode, practically unuseable
here you go, c**ts
Sorry friend, I can't find it. I think I downloaded one but when I modded the game it fricking disappeared and now it's unplayable again.
It's kinda unresponsive. It gets annoying pretty quickly.
Why would you even use a touchscreen in the first place? It's not a phone
Deck apologist in full force I see
Answer the question gay. Why are you using your deck like a phone? Are you a zoomer that never used physical controls in your life before?
Having a Deck doesn't mean you aren't lying about it, because you cle
Can you emulate switch games on it at an equal level of performance to the switch?
Yeah you can emulate Switch at 15-25 fps and 540p res which is how majority of the Switch library runs
seething larp trannie
most shit is running about as good as you'd hope
vulkan backend / GPU normal / undocked / 0.75x resolution
also ideal if you can find a shader cache of a game to reduce jittering
powertools plugin also helps
most morons who have decks just pop in a game and have no idea what the frick they are doing
It's pretty good, I've played Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Metroid Dread and Astral Chain extensively. Emulation was very buggy at first but one of the latest updates makes BotW run at full speed at 75% resolution, with minor hiccups at native resolution. I wasn't expecting to see these improvements so quickly tbh.
I even played Ghost and Goblins Resurrection on Yuzu at full speed, whose port is currently listed as non supported on Steam Deck.
>but one of the latest updates makes BotW run at full speed at 75% resolution
wat. it barely gets like 15 fps in yuzu
are you thinking of cemu? it was already running 40+ in that
Nope, Yuzu. Make sure you download the Appimage from their website, the flatpak runs like crap
jesus fricking christ, that is insane if true
maybe botw2 day 0 at full speed will actually be a thing LULE
literally cannot imagine the seethe
Do you need screenshots? I got to Hyrule Castle today, even modded my save to get the Hero of Time gear since it wasn't spawning from the amiibos.
But yeah, the main reason why I've been testing this is that I'm curious to see if BotW2 will run at full speed day one. BotW1 has been running like crap until last week or so, when they finally fixed a big issue with the Deck not drawing enough power for whatever reason
actually if you could record a short video that would be stellar
Kinda curious to see if I can do that from the Deck itself with OBS, lemme check
>OBS
probably won't do you any favors for the performance side of things
anyway my deck is being handed off to jamal later this week so i'll ask him when it arrives
Crap quality but you get the point, I'm no youtuber.
Starting out in Kakariko, the most demanding area, which was running at a locked 15 fps a week ago.
Plenty of hiccups now but still playable. You can see how the framerate becomes very smooth when leaving it and running around in the fields
>tdp not even maxed out
nice, means there's yet more potential.
Yeah there's still some weird stuff going on with Yuzu, I'm positive it will get sorted with time. It's been only a few months after all
I can get it to run fine at 8W by setting the GPU clock at 100 MHz for example, it's just a lot less stable but it still runs at 30
*1000 Mhz
>whose port is currently listed as non supported on Steam Deck.
>Not using protondb as a reference
That game has a platinum rating on protondb and just requires changing one line in config to change it from Dx12 to 11 to make it run perfectly on the Deck.
Yeah but I don't have it on Steam yet, I bought the Switch version when it was an exclusive. I know it's pretty easy to make unsupported games run, I'm playing Nex Machina right now
New deck owner here myself.
would like to add to your list, I generally agree with everything besides
>battery drains quickly
>doesn't fit in a (small) bag
Since I've been running it for extended periods just fine (I mostly play older stuff and emulate) and the bag thing is a nonissue for me.
More pros:
>Linux desktop side is a godsend
>the sidetab UI with shit you can adjust is really fricking nice to have and super useful
>ergonomics and weight are surprisingly good I think
>speakers are really great for a handheld and can get loud while still being crisp
More cons:
>trackpad 'mouse' and kb is absolutely buggy as frick in desktop mode, sometimes clicking with the pad stops working, sometimes trigger click doesn't work
>emulation absolutely needs fricking about with even with emudeck stuff, touchscreen issues suck ass here when you need to deal with menus on gamemode side
>swapping to desktop and vice versa is buggy at times
>can't choose where to install games to, have to install and move for non-default
>lost the fan lottery and can hear the subtle but annoying high pitched whine when not in a game/in a quiet menu and it revs up
Thankfully most of these are software issues and can be fixed but the last one kinda pisses me off but not enough to RMA it.
just spend $80 on a clip for your $60 battery pack that weighs 5 additional pounds anon
Its like you didn't even read my post at all, shitposterkun
Does that come with a back brace?
Sorry, the Deck isn't for DYEL homosexuals
Evidently it isn't for anybody.
>Put and additional source of heat on the Deck, and place it directly on the back where the Deck gets the hottest when running, severely restricting normal heat dissipation
Yeah can't wait for a surge of posts from these morons in a few months about their Decks not working or constantly being at 95C+
i seriously doubt the average user is buying a battery pack just to play DMC for 30 more minutes every session
I hope the gyro is as good as Steam Controller
I'd hope it's better. As much as I love the Steam Controller, it has a noticeably low polling rate.
https://arch.b4k.co/v/thread/604475358/
holy shit that was a good thread
>2 hours of battery life
nintendo switch lasts all day because you stop playing after 10 minutes to reduce eye strain
I'd consider getting one to play modded gaymes, unlike nintendo
>1.5 hours of battery life
NONONO THE STEAMDECK WAS SUPPOSED TO BE SHIT!!!
LINUS SAID IT WAS UNFINISHED!!!!
IGN GAVE IT A 7!!!
VALVE STOP SUPPORTING YOUR PRODUCT!!!! STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP
Just wait for v2 while suckers beta test for you
Simple
>Wait for the version with the worse fan and slower PCIe
Yeah v2 squad really winning out there lmao
Then wait for v3
Simple
Reminder that in one of these chink shill threads someone was posting chinese youtube screenshots of the deck out performing the next generation of chink handhelds and after those images were posted the shills left in an angry huff. The cpu they chose runs the same or worse than the steam deck at 15w and only gets 10 more fps at 30w. With a battery just as small or smaller than the steam deck these next gen chink handhelds are going to fare much worse in the power drain department. The chinks would embarrass themselves less if they all didnt scramble to put out a million new UMPC after the deck was announced. Any reply to this post will be promptly ignored because I don't listen to ugly people.
lmao the Switch continues to outsell the Steaming-Shit Deck by 1000:1 every month. And outsells every other console too.
The juggernaut success of the Switch is the biggest prolonged nonstop assfricking this board has ever endured.
Its been hee-larious to watch. Long may it continue.
>McDonalds is outselling my local farmers market, Big Macs confimed for best and highest quality food in the world
Valve is a small indie studio
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argumentum_ad_populum
LOL sorry schizo, but when it comes to video games, Planet Earth would rather play Nintendo than anything else.
Because Nintendo are the celebrated and commercially successful video game company in history.
Makes ya seethe. I love it.
>arthur
Not a valid argument, see
>not a valid argument
> just ignore the fact Nintendo are dominating the industry
KEK

No one really wants a steam deck bro. The sooner you realize that, the better.
If no one wants one why can't I get one for months?
Because Valve is in way over their heads. They recently doubled weekly production from 6,500 to 13,000 per week. Not even a million pre-orders since February. It's not even close to being popular.
Damn Valve sells more Decks in a week than Chinks sell UMPCs in a whole year lmao
Nice deflection.
source on numbers?
because if the average invite day for 512 US was only advancing 5 minutes at a time and they jumped 48 minutes, that would suggest far more.
It's out there. Use Google. Valve won't release their actual sales numbers yet, because they are so small. So, everything is basically best guess estimates. But, Switch is still confirmed outselling it's total numbers every 2 weeks at a minimum.
gabe said on the initial press junket that 'we will sell a million of these' and given the current estimations it seems like they are easily on track to hit those numbers by the end of the year
they obviously aren't trying to compete with nintendo you schizo
>Design a handheld that looks almost exactly like a Switch
>Fanbois hype it as a Switch killer
>Hourly shill threads about how the Switch is dead now that the steam deck is "available".
>"They don't even want to sell a lot of units! This isn't even menat to compete with the Switch!!!"
The absolute state.
how do they manage to get such thin skin on these tendies
>Design a handheld that looks almost exactly like a Switch
I think you confused the Deck and Aya Neo.
Deck is the second least looking handheld compared to the Switch out of all UMPCs and newer Android handhelds out there (the first one would be the GPD one with the keyboard).
Sure. Whatever you need to tell yourself.
>No one really wants a steam deck bro
If people actually wanted a Switch it would have a 1 year long queue like the Deck because people would be buying it, instead of being stocked in every shitty supermarket in the country like it's toilet paper.
Switch is selling 443k per week in 2022. There haven't even been a million orders for steam deck.
>Switch is selling
So is toilet paper, because people need something to wipe their asses with
>There haven't even been a million orders for steam deck
Where do you get that number from?
The internet. People that write articles covering this stuff. Do you have any evidence they have sold more?
>hearsay
I see
So, where's the evidence that they have sold more? None? Ok.
I'm not saying they did, I'm just saying you shouldn't be claiming anything either as we just have no real data to go by. Just extrapolations and estimates.
You're right. They've probably sold at least 20 million. That's why they aren't willing to publish the numbers. You already have the obligatory The Steam Deck Is Not A Flop articles 4 months in. Everything is going great.
I don't think they're going to say a number until they pass some kind of milestone like 1 million units which should happen sometime before Christmas. All we have to go on so far is that they sold 100k in a month in April for the first time (25k a week), and that they've now doubled that number (50k a week).
That pace is pretty unimpressive if you look at the Steam Deck as a console, but its almost unprecedented in the modern era for a PC. Deck is selling about as many units a week as most of these handheld PCs sell before they get a refresh.
Even going by the Steam Survey and extrapolating from the last reliable numbers Valve released a month ago Valve had 70k units in customers hands getting the survey, and they were 5% of 1% or working backwards about 140 million Steam users total.
Today with the increase of Linux to 1.18% and Steam Deck to 7.57%, that means 1.65 million Linux users, and 125k Decks showing up in the survey assuming Steam hasn't picked up millions of new users.
Keep in mind that the survey is a survey, it only takes a sample, doesn't present to everyone, and isn't very good at counting when a group is under about a million or so.
Can Nintendo just stop winning for 5 minutes?
Jesus Christ Nintendo give the others a chance!
>I can play and support the creation high quality Nintendo games
or
>I can play Steam shovelwear and multiplat shit I already pirated on my PC on a piece of ugly garbage for 4 times the cost
Hmm tough choice
>4 times the cost
He's including the scalper prices.
>I can play and support the creation high quality Nintendo games
why the frick would I want to do that
>mention snitch in title
>snag a schizo bumps the thread to limit for free
every single time
Are they going to make a better version of the steam deck? I want something with better quality screen and graphics.
Yes they will make the Deck that gets 120% graphics soon
Maybe my use case is different, but when do you need a portable device with 5+ hours of playime where you're not anywhere near an outlet?
I just can't imagine playing something super intensive like RDR2, Elden Ring, or another battery drain intensive game on like a plane ride over like a more low power draw casual indie game or emulating.
t. has a Deck and uses it mostly plugged in while comfy on my bed/couch or when at my buddies place, aka how I've always used my handhelds
In public spaces the only real acceptable thing is a phone anyway at least in burgerville.
>on like a plane ride
Planes have power outlets capable of charging 100W+ laptops, let alone a Deck.
>Playing a handheld while you're at your friends house
What? Why?
Why not? We shoot the shit and he's a pcgay too so we can do multiplayer easily in the same room for games with no splitscreen.
You can play multiplayer with him from your own house. Being together is for board games and having actual conversation. Drink some beers/whiskey, and hang out. Yes, I'm telling you how to enjoy your time with your friend. You're doing it wrong.
You don't think someone can game and still have a convo and drink? lmao come on dude
Also watching people play games can be fun too. Tabletop gaming is meh with only 2 people, its best for a group of 3+
I think your scope of things to do is limited and you must have a very shallow mindset of how people can enjoy time together. You also don't have to do just one thing, there's no problem with chillin and doing your own thing at times together if you visit a lot.
>battery dies in -5 minutes
Nintendo keeps winning.
Ganker keeps seething.
I like this timeline.
Are you going to have a meltdown in the next deck thread too?
He's too busy playing all those Switch games, I doubt it
>Pointing out how dominant Nintendo is equals having a meltdown.
Are you sure you're ok?
I'll take that as a yes.
I think what I hate the most about the switch is how it has sparked this eternal whiner on the internet who constantly asks for games to get a switch port. Most normies don't give a shit about any games at all but suddenly they want mobile versions that run like ass of every mid-tier PC title? And some AAAs too? Its like these gays need to justify their purchase, but either way I just hate seeing it.
