I went from CV1 to Quest3 a few months ago and already used it more than my PS5 in a year.
Its still a fun side toy, not a gaming substitute.

This. You're supposed to buy an Oculus for under 500 dollars and then after you hit 10-50 hours of an experience you've never experienced before, it pays itself off.

I use mine once every 2-3 months. Maybe it's because I have OCD but I spend 2-3 hours configuring everything for the optimal experience and play for only 1-2 hours before getting bored, doing something else for a while and then not picking it up again for another 2 months. It's a fun little novelty but it just isn't convenient enough to use regularly.

I tried VR porn and it's really lackluster. Even 16K videos are shit because you can't move your head around or you're stuck with VAM that runs like shit and needs a PhD to set up the scene you want, and by then your boner will be gone.
Overall VR games are too fun to waste your time on other shit. I feel bad for the gays that only put their headset on to hang around in VRC and spend the rest of their free time slaving away in blender to make "super ebin cool outfits and avatar"

Pic related, its the best way to describe it, side to side usually there is no problem but when i look up and down some games have a weird positioning thing when the camera and the axis of rotation dosent match and gets really weird.

      Pretty much my experience
VR was killed by all the shitty exclusive deals, it could have been kept alive by RE ports but sony made them exclusive
Meanwhile META closed down occulus studios so they dont make PC games and instead make games for their mobile tier gpu headset, while Bethesda flooded it with shitty ports like Skyrim VR that will make people never want to play VR ever again

I just hope that VR valve game isnt cancelled so i get to play one more real gime before i throw it out.

I find my issue with consistently playing is that my work is mentally taxing. Vr for whatever reason is also mentally taxing. Not in the same way as taking a test or something, but it’s taxing to your ocular nerves and requires greater sustained focus than traditional gaming. After a long day of work it’s often difficult to push myself to fatigue that “muscle” further. If I’ve had a couple of days off from work it’s likely that I organically decide to game in VR for an extended period.

      Anonymous

Yeah it isn't as relaxing as ordinary 2d gaming. It just feels like hard work mentally. I pretty much only play when I have an extended break from work too. Maybe on day 3 or 4 of a week long holiday I might feel like picking it up. Besides that, I just can't be bothered with it.

      Anonymous

Yeah, same. It's hard to use it on days I work. VR gaming feels more like going on a trip. It's still fun, but you don't want to do it every day, and on days where you are tired, you just can't.

Devs still haven't realised that sitting mode with a gamepad should be a thing since gamers are fatasses.

If you're gay hop onto VRChat. You'll find a willing femboy or furry within 3 hours max. Gays are the most contented group in VRChat by far.

There is no good VR porn anyway. IDK why but they shoot it exactly like regular porn as if they don't have any clue what VR is.

The frick type of VR porn you watching? Stella Cox gets her Clussy Slammed at the Circus?
You can DL VR porn directly on e-porner. It's got a ton of JAV VR stuff too. The only issue is that in some videos the male actor has the recording device strapped to his fricking chest, which ruins the angles. You can adjust with Skybox VR player, but it's infuriating when it happens.

The structure of the current market means that anything (console, new PC hardware, VR headset) is a paperweight unless it can play older games. The only reason that VR seems to set itself apart as having no games, is because of brand inertia.

The best reason, aside from porn I guess, to buy a VR headset is if you're into driving/flight/space sims. Any wienerpit sim game benefits a huge deal from the immersion and awareness of VR and usually have excellent support from the top games in the genre. Plus these are the kinds of games you can play over and over again for months and years. But yeah, if you're getting one just for whatever novel little VR toys get put out on for Quest or Steam VR then you'll probably lose interest after the novelty wears off.

      Anonymous

this. I bought my g2 reverb to check VR out, most of it is bland slop, but sims is where it's at.I play flight sims now.

I have yet to see porn that was not boring as hell after the novelty factor wears off, which is very quickly.

Yeah it's a major QOL problem, you can't spend an entire day at a fixed focal length and not hurt your eyes. With a screen you can at least look away once in a while and you eyes do SOME work, when they do literally none, it's a problem.

indeed it is. After a few hours in VR I feel my shortsightdness worsening. It recovers after a couple of hours tho.

This shit doesn't matter if you don't fork out money for an expensive vr device. I did things like underwater swimming on quest 1 and everything looks like total pixeleted ass.

it still does, but it's still fun.

there's also vrchat if you're a freak. I get the appeal but just can't into voice chatting with total strangers who have a 999% chance of being degenerates

Yeah, I’m with you. I’m going to wait until next gen headsets come out (Quest 4, Deckard). We have until 2026, unless we upgrade from our current OS. The G2 already has the near same resolution as all of the newer headsets this gen. No point moving off it unless we’re either out of time with wmr or something significantly better comes out.

          Anonymous

Holding out for the next Valve headset or another fix. It's a pity because the G2 is amazing for its price point. Replacement cables for the G2 are super expensive though.
I thought WMR could still be downloaded as a standalone though?

            Anonymous

It will be until 2026 and then Microsoft will pull it entirely. It also won’t work on any version of Windows after a certain point of Q4 of this year. So if you’re on Win 10 you’re fine, but if Win 11 gets a major feature update the program/driver will no longer work. Also, there’s a risk that after this year if SteamVR changes to a great enough extent that the wmr driver will break and that will make it unusable for any game not using OpenXR. It’s a minimal risk because it hasn’t happened thus far, and Microsoft hasn’t put any effort into their driver in years, but still it would suck.

I didn't like Tokyo Chronos or Altdeus that much, as the basic scale was fundamentally broken and it was basically jsut reading text boxes. That being said, Dyschronia finally has scale figured out, the art is better, and introduces gameplay (zomg).

It has a demo, so you don't need to buy it to find out. It looked surprisingly solid on Quest even with the limited resolution, haven't tried the PC verison.

Why are there no true next gen graphic games, , i mean somehow missing the magnificent next gen graphics and do you think that will change with the PS5 Pro and the Next Gen like PS6/XboX?...

What do you mean next gen?
Games like Horizon Forbidden west look insanely better than anything before, and with real time GI from ray tracing we are finally seeing realistic lighting.
You seen Remnant 2 or Immortals of Aveum ? Even games from smaller studios look amazing now (even if they arent that great).
Resident evil 8 or 4remake i player recently looked great.
Personally im a character artist in a big studio, and the graphic standards are getting really up there, its hard to make those models by yourself those days.

I literally just use mien for character creation and scenes in Virt-A-Mate, and playing some games in Steam VR mode. It was always a hobbyist endeavor, not a new mainline way to play things. If you have the money to blow on VR apparatuses then being a paper weight is no different from an old Mario game.

Bought quest 3 to see how far VR has gone after using Rift S years ago. Been using it daily for 3 months now.
The new pancake lenses and powerful enough standalone mode are a game changer. I can use VD to play race sims wirelessly on it without issues and even ditched my triple screen setup the next day I tried racing in quest 3.

I also got hooked to VR fitness games in standalone mode. Dancing in Synth Riders, boxing in Thrill of the Fight etc is far more fun and engaging than running on a treadmill for cardio. Playing almost every day now.

The main downside is a low battery life without battery strap, screens without local dimming and average sound quality.
But for $500 you can finally have a complete package without serious compromises.

      Anonymous

the tech is great no doubt, but there are just no games
the battery thig pisses me off, if they made a proper back strap battery even if it was 50$ more expnsive for extra bigger one, the front would be 30% lighter, 30% smaller and it would be better balanced, no batter in front means almost no need for active cooling as those chips run pretty cold

        Anonymous

The tech is finally good enough to be put into a relatively cheap and widely accessible device. Third party face masks and straps solve most of the comfort issues (with amvr silk mask I can even comfortably wear huge ass glasses underneath). Sweat and fogging is still an issue though for some.

There are more than enough games that can be pirated to get you busy. No AAA games other than Alix yes, most standalone games have mobile phone graphics yes. But if you are into sports games(boxing, table tennis, golf etc) and have enough space in a room then there are some gems that can be played for hundreds of hours. It was an eye-opening experience to me how well they work and that I can just grab my headset and just play without pc and wires. Some even have MR features such as projecting tennis table into your room - and it works really well.

PCVR streaming is also fun, although controllers have some noticeable tracking latency, so for fast motion games it might be better to play the standalone version. For fligt or race sims with external controls, it is a non-issue.

The one killer feature missing in VR for me is adjustable vocal length. No matter where you look, your eyes always look at the distance so there is no adjustment. Not even Apple Vision Pro has that but I've read it's theoretically possible.

      Anonymous

Yeah it's a major QOL problem, you can't spend an entire day at a fixed focal length and not hurt your eyes. With a screen you can at least look away once in a while and you eyes do SOME work, when they do literally none, it's a problem.

          >the movement of your hands dosent corelate with the hands you see on the screen
This is the biggest one for me
After playing racing sims with the DK2 and staring at literal red dots for the curbs, everything is an improvement but the latency just kills it, even more on intense shit like a quali lap on monaco in F1 for example, you feel like you are gonna die if you frick up a milisecond and go an atom wider.

            Anonymous

            >gonna die if you frick up a milisecond and go an atom wider.
All headsets have pretty high motion to photon latency to begin with due to tracking and smoothing as well as buffered output. It feels real-time because there is a ton of input prediction happening, but if you use an external input like a mouse or gamepad then there will be a noticeable latency. Quest 3 link latency adds about 10-15ms to encode/decode and you don't feel it much.

For racing, you use your steering wheel for the direct input / feedback and don't really use video as much as you think. At least not when you already learned the track.

          >standalone ones still wont let you expand its memory for some reason (this is a personal nitpick because what the frick)
Tracking is basically done with multiple methods and the last part to refine would be how cumbersome it is.
My guess was that thanks to flexible displays they can now put a heavy curvature so you dont end up with a thing like the chinkmax while having high angles.

until people learn to manipulate gravity, the acceleration you see and feel will be at odds with each other and the ol' reptilian part of your brain stem will say "frick this!" and make you puke.

the only real solution that isn't ar is full body haptic suits and cybernetic vestibular implants

True, but his is something your brain learns to deal with over time.
People used to get motion sickness and dizzy from first person games. Now most people are used to it.

Gun raiders is unironically some of the most fun ive ever had in vr in my whole life.
    Lots of irritating children though.
Other than that I just play TOTF.
I had modded Beat Saber for a while but BMBF has been incredibly piss poor for years, unsure if it is half decent yet. Gets irritating quickly anyway imo, coming from a previous competitive osu player.
I definitely got my $400 worth.

I got it for bonelabs multiplayer, but it didn't get decent multiplayer until way later and even then we still don't have gmod tier servers. I tried vrchat, and while not as fun, I definitely felt the beginning of the whole VR troony pipeline and I never touched it again. Once bonelabs gets serverlists and custom game mode support it's over for me.

bonelab fusion has server lists, if you go to preferences > BoneLib > Bonelab Fusion > Matchmaking > Refresh servers or something to that regard
As for gamemodes, apparently they are separate code mods that you get off thunderstore
i wish they fixed their implementation of OpenXR though since it doesnt work on pimax without sacrificing the steamvr overlay

Game developers can't even make good flat games anymore. Even the risk of making a game that's not a remake is too much to ask. And you expect them to make truly new things?
One might hope that a brand new medium would revitalize things and shake up the stagnation, like it did every time in the past. But the spirit is gone. The hardware is good but it arrived too late.

I really hope Nintendo does VR with the switch 2, because they have a lot of games that would be fun in it. Stuff like Switch sports, Mario Kart or even bringing back Nintendogs. But sadly with the PSVR2 failing I think that ship has sailed.

i heard VR headsets, at their most basic, can be used like headphones but for visuals, broadcasting screens straight to the eyeballs without any external interference
    is this accurate?

visual headphones is a really good description of what a VR headset is, although the world is gay now so it's not just a thing you plug in, they all have different drivers and app stores and lock in.
motion controllers add more to it though, which you need if you want to interact with stuff using your hands in the VR world.
