I kinda wish Link's awakening's ending meant a Twilight Princess-esque situation where Marin broke into the real world and could switch between human and seagull form so that she and Link could end up together.
On the other bright side, she's essentially based on Link's internal image of ALTTP Zelda spiced up by the Wind Fish, so if Link gets back to Hyrule make he can tap Zelda. But yeah Marin gays are stuck between shipping ALTTP Link with his Zelda (as the basis of Marin's character according to the story) or OOT Link with Malon (as a character directly based on Marin in turn.)

No, Hyrule Historia is the one that firmly places LA after ALTTP and makes it the same as ALTTP Link, not OOT Link. You might be thinking of Hyrule Encyclopedia, which is literal fanfiction.

In the manga version Link refuses to kill more bosses but the creatures start attacking more rabidly until he's forced to end the nightmare for everyone by continuing his quest.

Now that you mention it, I remember the gameboy booklet said something about Marin like 'the girls looks like Zelda'.
