I don't even remember that much... I wanted to keep my habit of having one physical and one magical character per race and was overwhelmed by how many races there were. The game also kept dragging on way too long, lost interest after a while.
It was actually really good. It had a shitload of content, a lot of amazing side quests that developed the characters, and many fun jobs. The music was great too.
Am I the only one who'd whises the Judges had actual power and be harsh af? It's way too easy to never break a rule but, even if you do, the punishment is practically naught. It's a different system to other TRPGs that could be expanded on, not just forbidding actions but maybe sometimes movement or maybe even get a bonus if X difficult to task to pull off is achieved. Anything.
It'd be a good way to add difficulty lvls. The harsher the judges, the harder the difficulty, less warnings, lower threshold for infractions, more penalizations and different types of it, even yellow cards... That way we'd actually have a valid reason to rotate the squad beyond experimenting jobs
It was great, one of my favourites on the DS. It had so much content, and I loved the graphics (great combination of pixelart with special effects for skills/spells) and music.
Get a DSi XL, ds games look fantastic on it and you can soft mod it to play DSi games

I thought it was great, apart from the Bazaar system which might be one of the worst mechanics I've ever seen in any game. It could literally lock you out of jobs for most of the game if you got poor RNG.
checking hasnt been a thing for ages, at least for trips and quads. not that I'm complaining tho bc going from 10 straight posts of >checkd & kekd & Xpilled
to only 1 makes it mean something again
It'd be a good way to add difficulty lvls. The harsher the judges, the harder the difficulty, less warnings, lower threshold for infractions, more penalizations and different types of it, even yellow cards... That way we'd actually have a valid reason to rotate the squad beyond experimenting jobs
It wasn't, but I actually liked the judges in FFTA better, they forced you to think outside of the box. You could randomly end up getting totally fricked, but that was rare. People b***hing about the law system in FFTA got filtered hard.
Same here, there were just too much ways in which you could win battles with laws against you. >check laws before joining the mission/battle >go back and forth the map to change the laws >anti-laws cards
Even these no hurting animals laws could be bypass if you were unlucky enough not to check the laws >charm animals so they attack each others >beatmaster to control them and make them attack each others >counter attack, bonecrusher reaction >spells that do no damage like Last Breath which is an instakill, Rockseal, and Nightmare which kills the target in 3 turns without hurting it
Someone asked me in the last FFTA thread but there is some quite good romhacks of the first FFTA that increase difficulty, add jobs, increase or remove Laws and etc...

I'm playing the Difficulty increased hack and I'm having a blast.
i thought it was great, several steps above FFTA, classes were pretty cool, tons of quests and fun fights, crafting system was good. i'd play it again if i could emulate DS games on the switch comfortably.
I like it. The main plot just barebone but I find i charming in a sense that it just a story of a kid who might as well make the best of his situation and enjoy the fantasy adventure. The side quests are very good and I like Adelle x Luso moments.
At first it seemed luso was enjoying himself way to much, so it wouldve beem fun to see him having inner conflicts and coping about the fact that he'd have to leave someday and he wasnt that keen to reach that goal.
>better than the first one where the Law System in TA just fricks you over
No it didnt. Both are easy af to circumvent. A2 was easier, sure, but it's not like the og was a nightmare. Never got into trouble, I had to purposively break it in order to see what would happen. Hint: a slap on the hand.
Same here, there were just too much ways in which you could win battles with laws against you. >check laws before joining the mission/battle >go back and forth the map to change the laws >anti-laws cards
Even these no hurting animals laws could be bypass if you were unlucky enough not to check the laws >charm animals so they attack each others >beatmaster to control them and make them attack each others >counter attack, bonecrusher reaction >spells that do no damage like Last Breath which is an instakill, Rockseal, and Nightmare which kills the target in 3 turns without hurting it
Frick yeah, I always thought it was fun trying to find a way around the laws
yeah, the "no laws" bs is pretty much parroting at this point, no actual personal opinion on the subject. Laws were great because they made you use a different strategy(when they affected you), they move you away from a comfort zone to try out new things, if that wasn't the case then shit would have grown stale, samey, you'd just abuse the same builds and strategy because they'd work for the rest of the game. Now am not saying that despite this the game has no abusable team comps and whatnot, but laws certainly made it so things would remain at least dynamic
I so rarely ran into problem with laws that I never saw them as an issue. To this day I don't see how people b***h and moan about that feature unless they're trolling. They force people to be creative with their party and tactics. Sounds fair to me.
oh like you wouldn't believe, the amount of people that complained about muh laws back then was just as high, a mix between FFT "old good vs new bad" gays and people who just repeated what others said
It wasn't, but I actually liked the judges in FFTA better, they forced you to think outside of the box. You could randomly end up getting totally fricked, but that was rare. People b***hing about the law system in FFTA got filtered hard.
Yeah honestly. It proposed an interesting premise and dilema for the main character and executed on it decently enough. Even for as amazingly written as the original FFT is, its undeniable that its quite the retread of Tactics Ogre in many regards but FFTA is at least unique
I still surprised me that FFTA and FFTA2 are the rare Isekai game. Like people would think that with the explosion of Isekai there would be more Isekai game
This is what kept the game from being popular.
Make cool characters that people actually want to have on screen. Not flamboyant homosexuals that are over designed and annoying.
Squeenix has some really fricking shit costume and hair design for their male main characters. It's like they try to brainstorm how to make the average guy never want to play their games.
I think the health bloat and MP scarcity sucked. Assassin being gutted solved half the turbodamage issues in TA, and either the MP scarcity OR more health would have more than solved the rest, but having both made battles take way too long. Firing off a uniquely expensive Ultima skill only for the enemy to still be alive is a poor design choice.
Mewt is almost an easter egg more than he is an actual character in the game. Marche and the others didn't really need to show up. Montblanc is in as well
Not even that, stat growths were even random iirc. You can level up with one more speed point, reset the game then do the level up again and gain 0 speed but +1 defense instead. It was dreadful.
>decided to try on hard mode on most recent emulation >first battle has giant bird dealing so much damage you can get one shot >have to sit through the entire intro again
yeah hard mode is ridiculous, it immediately puts you against an actual boss in a limiting quasi-tutorial
Funny thing about this is:
1. if you don't do hard mode, the game becomes trivially braindead easy by around 1/3 of the way in, to the point where it's an actual chore to play
2. this first boss, which is meant to be a tutorial, is by FAR the hardest encounter in the entire game on hard mode
its the best FFT game. it has way more options, way more jobs, way more items ,weapons, etc. the "main" story was simplistic but it has TONS of extremely long side questchains that are fun and deep and wellwritten.
Those people like her, I wife'd her as soon as the game came out and no other woman took her place. homosexuals who waifu more than 1 character or do seasonal shit can kill themselves. That being said, she is just a super cool paladin, her story in A2 is good, she is cute in a strong way, etc. I would say just play the game or even watch a youtube video on her character quest line but the game is generally not that great and Frimelda's quest is basically endgame.

There was a guy called Harvester Of Eyes who said FFT was the worst SRPG he'd ever played. Dude threw a fit and eventually deleted his entire channel. He had appalling taste in games and was eternally mad that people didn't give a shit about his channel despite shitting on beloved games like FFT and Tactics Ogre while praising bottom of the barrel indie SRPGs and other shit nobody has ever heard of.
Tried to find his FFT video in internet archive but it looks like it's gone forever https://web.archive.org/web/20210328040026/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5aj1NE0TCU

Frick your semantics gay. A2 is the best of the bunch.
I never got far in it despite beating FFTA twice and the skill/class system of FFTA being my favorite system ever made. Learning skills on rare weapon to open the gameplay a bit more and unlocking advanced classes this way is fricking perfect. It's something that just doesn't exist elsewhere.
FFV is one of my favorite games ever made, this shit makes me ultra hard but I don't know. FFTA2 was maybe too slow, too wordy? I just don't know.
>FFTA2 is EXTREMELY slow, which is why I say it's not a great game. That and the story sucks.
How the hell is it slow? Also the story is just fine. God knows it's better than the original Tactic's story and less moronic than A1s
>God knows it's better than the original Tactic's story and less moronic than A1s
Dude, I loved all three, but you're being moronic. FFTA2 easily has the weakest story out of the bunch. 10/10, got me to respond. Have a (You)!
>God knows it's better than the original Tactic's story
hot moronic take fresh out of the oven. like all ffat2 all you want, but luso barely even had a story
>I'm a fan of this game and my all time waifu is from it! >but uhh it's actually shitty and you should play these other games instead!
Yeah. No one is buying it.
Main story just sucks. Theres a lot of cool side story arcs like getting Adelle's unique abilities, Duelhorn, and Frimelda. Game is fun to break and also throws some broken shit at you, like the Five King mages.
Did a magic bangaa once in Advance, I need to go and try it in A2 one day.
I wish the cards damage scaled with magic so you could do big damage normal attacks from half screen with tricksters
I got to the point where I nearly maxed all my squad out except for some items I had to grind out the auction houses but didnt. My team became stacked and I still had so many side missions left but had no drive to so I just rushed the
rushed the ending*
I wish there was a mod that added more jobs or abilities + actual difficulty near the end.
Getting double cast summons was cool but there was nothing to fricking use it on
Sure but then you're stuck at melee range. Sniper/spellblade can use spellblade skills with a greatbow and gets doubleshot for the turns where it has no MP.
It has a bug where turbo MP affects it twice which skyrockets its damage. Even without it they're oddly strong, I was expecting shit like ninja veils at first.
>train up a parivir to have maximum w attack stat >train as ninja for duel weild weapons >train as illusionist to target all opponents with magic >train as cat job for the mele attack after spell hit
It took forever, and there are much easier ways to break the game, but it was very satisfying to hit every opponent with illusion magic then come in for a double attack on each of them.
Everyone knows about the super broken shit like summoner + blood price, paravir + geomancy, ultima spam, juggler infinite, doublecast + blade arts, sneak attack ravager, and mirror items + item lore, so I'll post some other shit. >trickster/bishop. Stupidly high speed, debuffs out the ass, and holy spell hits hard. Can also steal loot and combos with stone debuff >beastmaster/time mage. Beastmasters are the fastest time mages with halve MP >fencer/sniper. Double shot is busted and fencer has great stats >Sniper/X because Sniper is still busted on its own >Cannoneer/X because Canonneer is also busted on its own. For subs, I used warrior for rend speed or templar for haste
Gimmicky and not nearly as broken setups that were still fun >black chocobo knight with black mage stat growth. This only works because choco flame deals magick damage despite being influenced by side/back bonus like physical attacks are >Flintlock/fusiler with geomancy. You slam elemental shots with the rocket punch >Raptor/geomancer for a jack of all trades that can also use magick on the side due to its decent magick growth
>max speed Cannoneer >ether shot on your Assassin/Sniper >ranged Ultima >twin Jugglers to keep propelling the Sniper and Cannoneer >win before anything else gets to move
Battle system needed slight tweaks to be actually great. Being able to lap turns meant speed was the defacto stat and it gets really, really tiresome later on (postgame stuff) if you don't take this into account. It really cripples non-minmaxed spellcasters. That is my biggest beef.
Because it's intentionally a shitty meme class, like morphers in A1
I enjoyed it but i hate different natural stat gains across classes. Makes me super paranoid about tanking someone into the ground2
Not even that, stat growths were even random iirc. You can level up with one more speed point, reset the game then do the level up again and gain 0 speed but +1 defense instead. It was dreadful.
Stat growths are the worst Parr of these games. Classes like Mortarer and Gunner are cool but get cucked out of damage unless you spend a few dozen levels training as one of the main damage classes for the race and even there you can get completely screwed by RNG. Shout out to the Geomancer for being a magic class that has garbage magic growths in a race whose only other jobs have even worse magic growths making it entirely useless for anything but cc
well nobody said it was that bad. why are you making stuff up?
I don't even remember that much... I wanted to keep my habit of having one physical and one magical character per race and was overwhelmed by how many races there were. The game also kept dragging on way too long, lost interest after a while.
t. played lots of FFTA1 as a kid
>overwhelmed by how many races there were.
They only added 2 more and the new races could barely use magic
It was actually really good. It had a shitload of content, a lot of amazing side quests that developed the characters, and many fun jobs. The music was great too.
Am I the only one who'd whises the Judges had actual power and be harsh af? It's way too easy to never break a rule but, even if you do, the punishment is practically naught. Yeah, I like the concept behind it but 2 really backs off on it instead of trying to improve the system
It's such a shame, but back then everyone kept complaining about it so devs just dialed it way down for A2
my favorite game of all time
I remember seeing this girl a lot but I hardly payed attention to the story. Was she a zombie or something
yeah you get to save her and turn her back into a qt
Peak character design and I am speaking out of thirst.
I'm glad some artists still give FFTA some love.
It was great, one of my favourites on the DS. It had so much content, and I loved the graphics (great combination of pixelart with special effects for skills/spells) and music.
i wish i could play it one day. its the only tactics FF i havent tried yet. emulation fricking sucks...
It runs at perfect on Desmume anon what are you doing? Even with turbo
Pretty sure he’s saying DS games feel like ass through emulation and he’s not wrong
i tried to emulate it with desmume a few years ago, but i had this weird bug with popping textures here and there and it completely killed my immersion even though the frames were perfect. im very autistic when it comes to emulation
Get a DSi XL, ds games look fantastic on it and you can soft mod it to play DSi games

Currently playing culdcept NDS on my phone. Comfy af
free 7 tile range Ultima Masher nukes via Blood Price: the game

Post Adelle
I like it. The main plot just barebone but I find i charming in a sense that it just a story of a kid who might as well make the best of his situation and enjoy the fantasy adventure. The side quests are very good and I like Adelle x Luso moments.
At first it seemed luso was enjoying himself way to much, so it wouldve beem fun to see him having inner conflicts and coping about the fact that he'd have to leave someday and he wasnt that keen to reach that goal.
asking for a friend.. are there any good tactics RPG games for the PC?
better than the first one where the Law System in TA just fricks you over.
TA2 is more forgiving and less punishing if you break a law
>better than the first one where the Law System in TA just fricks you over
No it didnt. Both are easy af to circumvent. A2 was easier, sure, but it's not like the og was a nightmare. Never got into trouble, I had to purposively break it in order to see what would happen. Hint: a slap on the hand.
The law system was great, I don’t understand the hate for it, I 100% that when I was younger
Same here, there were just too much ways in which you could win battles with laws against you.
>check laws before joining the mission/battle
>go back and forth the map to change the laws
>anti-laws cards
Even these no hurting animals laws could be bypass if you were unlucky enough not to check the laws
>charm animals so they attack each others
>beatmaster to control them and make them attack each others
>counter attack, bonecrusher reaction
>spells that do no damage like Last Breath which is an instakill, Rockseal, and Nightmare which kills the target in 3 turns without hurting it
Frick yeah, I always thought it was fun trying to find a way around the laws
yeah, the "no laws" bs is pretty much parroting at this point, no actual personal opinion on the subject.
Sounds fair to me.
oh like you wouldn't believe, the amount of people that complained about muh laws back then was just as high, a mix between FFT "old good vs new bad" gays and people who just repeated what others said
It wasn't bad, it's the best one.
It wasn't, but I actually liked the judges in FFTA better, they forced you to think outside of the box. You could randomly end up getting totally fricked, but that was rare. People b***hing about the law system in FFTA got filtered hard.
are the laws absolutely random in this game? You could see what laws were used before entering a mission in the first game
also getting gear sucks ass
No, each mission have a specific law, often benefit the enemies is harder fights.
TA2 was garbage relative to other FFT entries. But beyond that, it's okay.
What teh frick are you talking about?
A2 Grimoire is fricking sick. It might be the best? or at least equal to the original?
Very nice aesthetic and sound design.
Makes for a very comfortable experience. I enjoy games that allow me to make battle harems.
I finished the main story and extra content, and it wasn't bad, but it didn't had that something FFTA did had either.
are we implying here that marche's story was anything worthwhile?
more than luso thats for sure
bc luso barely has one? sometimes having none is better than a shitty bothersome one
Marche story was anything but bothersome, at least in my opinion.
Yeah honestly. It proposed an interesting premise and dilema for the main character and executed on it decently enough. Even for as amazingly written as the original FFT is, its undeniable that its quite the retread of Tactics Ogre in many regards but FFTA is at least unique
how is it unique when it's just a variation of the the neverending story motif? A medium doesnt exist in a vacuum m8
>argumentum ad populum: the post
never change Ganker
>story
it was that bad
>gameplay
it was very fun
I just remember the YAAYYY soundbite when something happened on the map. I can't remember if the music was any good
I just recall this game being paced terribly compared to the first game. But I don't even remember whether or not that's actually true or not.
>introduces 2 new playable races
>you will never have them as party members unless you look up where they spawn

I still surprised me that FFTA and FFTA2 are the rare Isekai game. Like people would think that with the explosion of Isekai there would be more Isekai game
>rare
How narrow do you define it? off the top of my head there's brutal legend, thw ni no kunis, all digimon vidyas, the upcoming forspoken, etc.
That still pretty rare when you see the Isekai crave in Japan
>no one posted it yet
Shit makes no sense, even for ff standards.
This is what kept the game from being popular.
Make cool characters that people actually want to have on screen. Not flamboyant homosexuals that are over designed and annoying.
Squeenix has some really fricking shit costume and hair design for their male main characters. It's like they try to brainstorm how to make the average guy never want to play their games.
obligatory
>stop having fun and go back in you wheelchair
the way Luso acted, all excited and having actual fun, he'd say otherwise. Which is based
Better version
how did he do it? he keeps filtering people after all these years
In this case Luso doesn't plan to stay there to avoid his problems so Marche wouldn't have a problem with it
>that bad
What? It's the best Tactics game hands down and one of the best DS games of all time.
What moron hates this game?
It's trash next to the original
The original FFT is so fricking overrated it's funny as shit. If that's what you mean.
FFTA is fun but I like FFTA 2 a lot more
I agree, but it was for most anons their first TRPG so they praise it to high heaven.
FFTA>FFTA2>FFT
Yeah it was. A random exp grind battle can be as long as a league match and the rules were gay shit cancer.
>A random exp grind battle can be as long as a league match
How fricking moronic are you? Actual question here.

Pure soul
I don't think I've ever even spared a single thought to the idle stances in either series.
Ritz is such a brat...

He's probably dead by now. homosexuals like this who value their opinions too highly usually end up deepthroating a shotgun.
/v/tards have low af reading comprehension skills so they seethe and cope
>FFTA2 is EXTREMELY slow
For you. Everything dies to quickly after Lord of the Flowsand.
I don't mean fights, I mean like animations, menuing, etc. is slow.
Honestly I feel like that's every old tactics game
Even modern shit like Shadowrun feels slow but the older games are like playing through molasses
You're right. It was AWFUL. rng in the game is insane. Couldn't be worse.
Adelle. More.
>introduce areas that will permadeath a character if killed
>never fight there again
Also, Archer/Sniper, Ninja/ Assassin OP.
Jagd battles are fun and I hate that A2 removed them.
You can choose to fight there and there's also a few side missions there like recovering Hurdy's skyship
spending all my money on my cat wife
How many of you went through the effort of AP grinding up a trickster/bishop?
Easily the most fun I've had with a magic based unit in an SRPG. Ultima spammers are gays.
Did a magic bangaa once in Advance, I need to go and try it in A2 one day.
I wish the cards damage scaled with magic so you could do big damage normal attacks from half screen with tricksters
ToT
I got to the point where I nearly maxed all my squad out except for some items I had to grind out the auction houses but didnt. My team became stacked and I still had so many side missions left but had no drive to so I just rushed the
rushed the ending*
I wish there was a mod that added more jobs or abilities + actual difficulty near the end.
Getting double cast summons was cool but there was nothing to fricking use it on
the virgin blood price ultima
the chad turbo mp spellblade
Don't forget doublecast. Ripping through enemies with two spell blade abilities per turn is great.
Sure but then you're stuck at melee range. Sniper/spellblade can use spellblade skills with a greatbow and gets doubleshot for the turns where it has no MP.
>mfw you find out blade arts skills are counted as spells
That damage output blew my balls off.
It has a bug where turbo MP affects it twice which skyrockets its damage. Even without it they're oddly strong, I was expecting shit like ninja veils at first.
>train up a parivir to have maximum w attack stat
>train as ninja for duel weild weapons
>train as illusionist to target all opponents with magic
>train as cat job for the mele attack after spell hit
It took forever, and there are much easier ways to break the game, but it was very satisfying to hit every opponent with illusion magic then come in for a double attack on each of them.
Share your cheesiest combos
Stop shot
Everyone knows about the super broken shit like summoner + blood price, paravir + geomancy, ultima spam, juggler infinite, doublecast + blade arts, sneak attack ravager, and mirror items + item lore, so I'll post some other shit.
>trickster/bishop. Stupidly high speed, debuffs out the ass, and holy spell hits hard. Can also steal loot and combos with stone debuff
>beastmaster/time mage. Beastmasters are the fastest time mages with halve MP
>fencer/sniper. Double shot is busted and fencer has great stats
>Sniper/X because Sniper is still busted on its own
>Cannoneer/X because Canonneer is also busted on its own. For subs, I used warrior for rend speed or templar for haste
Gimmicky and not nearly as broken setups that were still fun
>black chocobo knight with black mage stat growth. This only works because choco flame deals magick damage despite being influenced by side/back bonus like physical attacks are
>Flintlock/fusiler with geomancy. You slam elemental shots with the rocket punch
>Raptor/geomancer for a jack of all trades that can also use magick on the side due to its decent magick growth
>max speed Cannoneer
>ether shot on your Assassin/Sniper
>ranged Ultima
>twin Jugglers to keep propelling the Sniper and Cannoneer
>win before anything else gets to move
Battle system needed slight tweaks to be actually great. Being able to lap turns meant speed was the defacto stat and it gets really, really tiresome later on (postgame stuff) if you don't take this into account. It really cripples non-minmaxed spellcasters. That is my biggest beef.
>Chocobo Knight can't use any skill beside the CHocobo he ride and can't use their weapon while on the Chocobo
Why?
Because it's intentionally a shitty meme class, like morphers in A1
Stat growths are the worst Parr of these games.
I played Advance but not A2.
What are some other games that let you do beyond dumb shit with subclasses?
Bravely series off the top of my head.
Disgaea to the nth degree and also zhp
Monster Girl Quest Paradox
Laws good. Growths bad. God bless Bravely Default for not using the growth system.
Didn't this one have some FF12 characters 4l
Vaan and Penelo are in and have unique classes
Vaan have more thing to do in this game than in his own game. Plus Life of Crime is busted
The FFTA overdesign works out well for everyone but the protags
>no more Ivalice
I just want to play as a big ugly bastard Seeq with my cute Viera wife
I actually liked it a lot but it ends so suddenly, feels very unfinished.
