The paid subscription bullshit aside I returned to the game after.. 5 fricking years and with a group of friends the overall experience was enjoyable. Sure, the game has a frick ton of bugs and at the core is still a glorified Fallout 4 mod however exploring and early to mid game is fun. Late game is usually very boring

The symbolism of the wasteland is about battling lack of meaning, with the inevitability of violence destroying anything you build etc but there's no hint of any of that in 76. It's just a bunch of happy gay gal pals hanging around at the cafe like in the 90s sitcom Friends, with zombies.

that's the problem. I got it on sale last year and decided to pay for fallout 1st for one month. I had a blast but I can't justify paying for this shit. Fallout 1st was free a few days ago and it pissed me off because abilities like storing unlimited scrap and ammo should've been free

I played it for a few days last year and basically finished all the content outside of grinding for high end recipes weapons ect. The writing is bad per usual. The world is not practically fun to explore and despite adding Raiders/settlers its just too empty. Having WV be empty cause of the scorch plague (they didn't want to write npcs) ruined it from the start.

At this point I would recommend it over F4. Its more fun and zany. More of the old classic gear. Content gets added unlike F4 where its just patches that fricks up peoples mods. If you like online loot games theres some of that. Dont buy F1st. Easy to get by without it. Quests are decent now. Great map.

Is the resource gathering still annoying and tedious as frick? That was my main turn off. Back when I actually played I would log in and take one of the bases for producing ammo as I was an assault rifle build and constantly needed ammo. Then either me or some randos would launch a nuke, I'd go to the area to collect resources, spending pretty much all my ammo, then return and clear out the base again because the base defense system was ass and enemies would just constantly frick your shit up if you weren't constantly there to take care of it. Then rinse and repeat this cycle ad nauseum, only to lose the base when I logged off anyway making the whole thing feel pointless. It got to a point of being more tedious than fun, and even early to mid game exploring around, the constant need to collect resources for crafting bullshit felt like a huge detriment to the overall enjoyment.
Every time a new DLC came out I'd consider getting back into it because it looked cool, but then I remembered how much I actually hated the game. It was such a shame too because the map itself was genuinely great to explore, just wasted on this hybrid MMO garbage.

76 is good until you hit the endgame when the only thing left is decorating your house and running the same three event missions over and over. That's also when you end up hitting the please subscribe wall where if you want to use any of the cool guns you have to pay them to have access to ammo storage since it becomes impossible to deal with the weight for anything except the most basic ammo and you need to be able to store a meaningful amount of it somewhere.
