The only actual improvement is that it used the 3DS and Gen 6 communication features to improve the already existing concepts from Gen 3. Everything else is either the same, worse, or not that much of an improvement. The campaign for example is markedly worse than even RS, and that was a strong suit of the original game. Basically, the improvements do not outweigh the problems.
"Muh battle frontier" is a convenient excuse to pretend people's only problem with ORAS is some post-game area while the game is worse overall.

FRLG has some weird Masuda changes, but it is both way more faithful and provides way more interesting new content than whatever the frick Let's Go was. Let's Go is the worst of both worlds where the gameplay is fricking weird and the additions feel like they were added at the last moment because they were easy to implement and playtest.
RSE overworld sprites look like ass, but the ORAS overworld looks like ass in a completely unique and different way. It's not an improvement, it's just a different shade of shit. Both games simply have an awful overworld artstyle, being in 3D doesn't make the overworld objectively better and in fact causes an abundance of awkward loading zones that make the game less smooth to play. It's not Gen 4 HP drain levels of wasting time for no reason, but compared to how few loading zones RSE had overall it's extremely unfortunate.

The Pike isn't even that impressive, honestly. The Battle Arcade is about as engaging, both are essentially RNG that determines some shit about battles, and I like them trying something different. Missing out on a navigational challenge of any sort like the Pyramid is a pretty good example of a failing of the Gen 4 version, but it also doesn't have the Battle Palace at all so I'm willing to give partial credit. I think B2W2 has a more well-rounded selection than Gen 4 and overall higher quality selection than either 3 or 4, but that game also provides the least overall standard difficulty. If you don't consider team-building or puzzle solving to be difficult at all then it really peaks at Battle Subway doubles or PWT rental which isn't a great look.
The lack of BF is the main ORAS problem, but isn't the only problem

HGSS went above and beyond expectations as a remake. They not only brought Gen 2 up to the DS era technology, but also restored Kanto’s map and added a ton of extra side quests like the safari builder, Battle Frontier or the sports minigame thing.
Just like the original games, Johto casts a great shadow over ORAS. It was mostly Ruby/Sapphire but modernized in 3D. With no Emerald content. Watson doesnt even run Manetric, man. It’s. Just. Serviceable…

Why did there need to be a Mega legendary given to the player for the second half of the game? Why is the abandoned ship replaced with a smaller, easier to navigate level? All of these changes make the experience worse than what was offered previously. It isn't some small detail that got lost in the process like the graffiti on Celadon's roof. Entire aspects of the game are changed to be less interesting and quicker to chew through.

ORAS is a 3D game built upon the game design of a 2D game. That means the world looks small, awkward and, frankly, ugly. 3 trees on pixel art make you think of a small grove. 3 trees in 3d are just 3 trees.
ORAS is now 10 years old and its 3D has become dated. Meanwhile RSE's pixel art is still charming.
So yeah, ORAS did improve on some stuff but it doesnt make up for what it removed(easier game, easier dungeons, shit postgame, etc)

The original films are dated but still hold up while people praised the cgi of the prelogy when it was out but now it simply looks cringe.
The only actual improvement is that it used the 3DS and Gen 6 communication features to improve the already existing concepts from Gen 3. Everything else is either the same, worse, or not that much of an improvement. The campaign for example is markedly worse than even RS, and that was a strong suit of the original game. Basically, the improvements do not outweigh the problems.
"Muh battle frontier" is a convenient excuse to pretend people's only problem with ORAS is some post-game area while the game is worse overall.

I saw the shit about FRLG and had to speak up. I don't know if it's a "bad remake" in the context of when it was released. But I saw one anon put it poignantly in that it's by far the worst way to experience Gen 1 when compared to LGPE or just playing the originals. At least until they unleash some nightmare hellspawn remakes like picrel.
Here's how I rate Gen 1:

FRLG has some weird Masuda changes, but it is both way more faithful and provides way more interesting new content than whatever the frick Let's Go was. Let's Go is the worst of both worlds where the gameplay is fricking weird and the additions feel like they were added at the last moment because they were easy to implement and playtest.
RSE overworld sprites look like ass, but the ORAS overworld looks like ass in a completely unique and different way. It's not an improvement, it's just a different shade of shit. Both games simply have an awful overworld artstyle, being in 3D doesn't make the overworld objectively better and in fact causes an abundance of awkward loading zones that make the game less smooth to play. It's not Gen 4 HP drain levels of wasting time for no reason, but compared to how few loading zones RSE had overall it's extremely unfortunate.

The Pike isn't even that impressive, honestly. The Battle Arcade is about as engaging, both are essentially RNG that determines some shit about battles, and I like them trying something different. Missing out on a navigational challenge of any sort like the Pyramid is a pretty good example of a failing of the Gen 4 version, but it also doesn't have the Battle Palace at all so I'm willing to give partial credit. I think B2W2 has a more well-rounded selection than Gen 4 and overall higher quality selection than either 3 or 4, but that game also provides the least overall standard difficulty. If you don't consider team-building or puzzle solving to be difficult at all then it really peaks at Battle Subway doubles or PWT rental which isn't a great look.

HGSS went above and beyond expectations as a remake. They not only brought Gen 2 up to the DS era technology, but also restored Kanto’s map and added a ton of extra side quests like the safari builder, Battle Frontier or the sports minigame thing.
Just like the original games, Johto casts a great shadow over ORAS. It was mostly Ruby/Sapphire but modernized in 3D. With no Emerald content. Watson doesnt even run Manetric, man. It’s. Just. Serviceable…
