It's an absolute crime that this game doesn't get as much love as some of the other Sonic games.
>All of the zones are great
>there's great music (ice mountain act 2 is a banger)
>all of the characters play uniquely from each other
>all of the characters have additional moves that helps the gameplay to feel unique from the Mega Drive games
>and to get the true ending you must utilize each of the characters in order to access the special stages.
>The special stages are based on the bonus stages from Chaotix, so it's not yet another Sonic 2 half pipe clone. Most people haven't played Chaotix so this is a unique experience for a lot of players.
>The boss fights are pretty alright. They fit in great with the classic boss fights and there's some neat ideas here. I like the Cosmic Angel Zone boss and the Ice Mountain boss
I like playing as Amy because she's Amy-fricking-Rose and it's the hard mode of the game. I would have expected Amy to be the easy mode like Peach was in Mario 2 but NOOOOOO Sega did a good fricking job on this game.

Why does sonic get so many morons?
How does liking a good game supposedly make me a moron?
Is not a good game
You're right, it's not a good game. It's a great game.
I don't want that.
No! I don't want that!
It's not a bad game either. Wore than master system and Genesis sonics but I'd rate it over chaotix and the other spin-off shit like 3d blast.
It's better than the master system games.
Idk. Amy can't Spin Dash, and she doesn't attack when jumping by default. Actually I had some trouble on the first boss as Amy, but some other bosses like the Ice Mountain boss and the carnival boss were easier as her.
Each character has their own advantages but since Amy can't Spin Dash I think she's harder for the platforming sections.
>top 3
What would you say the top 3 are?
My momma ain't easy, she's a Christian woman and doesn't believe in sex outside of marriage.
>it's better than master system games
It isn't. Master system has better music, enemy placement and more variety in its levels.
>music
Depends on the track. I like the bridge theme from master system but I also really like ice mountain. They've both got great music.
>level variety
I'm pretty sure advance takes the cake here lmao.
>enemy placement
Lmao
>lmao
Master System Sonic is ludo while Advance is just meh with a bunch of meh vaharactera to chose from. Deal with it.
sonic 2 ms is a pimple on the advance series' ass
Amy is easy in Heroes if you want that
How easy? Like givin it up to anyone that asks or even easier like ops momma?
Amy IS the easy mode, just like Cream in the second game. She's unconventional compared to other characters, but she makes platforming and bosses piss easy.
Her gameplay is still interesting unlike Peach though.
But yeah, Advance 1 is certainly in the top-3 of 2D Sonic platformers.
Amy is hard mode when you're a stupid kid and don't know her moves yet. She's the most fun character when you know what you're doing.
>just like Cream in the second game.
Cream's attack is a literal win button.
It's just Sonic 1 but slightly better.
That's it. Nothing matters if it's not Sonic 2/3K tier good anymore.
I like Sonic 1 and this game plays nothing like Sonic 1.
I should stress it's what most casuals want Sonic to be like rather than it being objectively better than Sonic 1.
it's the Sonic 1 for casuals that hate the slower platforming of Sonic 1.
But I love the platforming of Sonic 1.
This game has a lot going for it and I wouldn't consider speed to be thing that sets it apart when literally all of the Sonic games have a great sense of speed if you don't suck.
because every other sonic fan would commit a mass shooting if sega put le ebil green eyes in a 2d game so sega has to pretend the advance and rush games never happened
also probably dev jealousy that another dev made competent sonic games. weeb loves saying that japs love being copied meanwhile in reality nintendo and sega have shut down whole franchises over that happening
>another developer
This game was a joint effort between Sonic Team and Dimps. It's not a matter of "another developer making a better Sonic game" when Sonic Team was directly involved.
Sonic Team was "involved" because of all the re-hashed Genesis content.
Such as?
The first two advance games were great. The 3rd was shit.
love route 99 always filtering advance 2 fans who expected the next one to also be hold right to win
>make Sonic thread
>guaranteed replies
Every time.
The Advance series is 2D style over substance. The give you nice graphics and a ton of new moves for the characters in order to make up for the fact that they had no idea how to make a Sonic game. The levels in all of them are slapped together bullshit with the worst placement of enemies, spikes, and falls of damn near any platformer Sonic or otherwise.
Level themes are either knock offs of stuff already done, or complete nonsense ones like the music instrument level in 2. That stuff can play in Ristar or Rayman but why the frick would that be in a Sonic game?
Everything about them feels like an off-brand Sonic imitation from some third party developer...because that's what they are.
oh yeah i hated those shittily designed levels like marble zone, labyrinth zone, metropolis zone and wacky workbench. have no idea why those dimps plebs would ruin 2d sonic's perfect reputation like that
Sounds like a lot of cope because you suck ass at the game. Sonic isn't meant to be green hill rehashed for the whole damn game. Isn't and never was.
I love metropolis zone.
its disingenuous to act like metropolis is better than any zone in sonic advance 1. secret base is like an actually fun version of it. i don't actually hate metropolis zone either. on my recent playthrough on sonic 2 community cut i actually had a lot of fun going through it but i was playing with the instashield and drop dash
its funny that you mention graphics because they are the one thing i think advance 1 doesn't do very well. pretty blase by sonic standards. but the gameplay is good enough to where it doesn't matter. as a kid who played the shit out of 3&k i always really liked it.
Metropolis Zone and Secret Base Zone are nothing alike. What's wrong with you?
>its funny that you mention graphics
I didn't!
its clearly supposed to be the eggman factory-type level just the same and a couple of the gimmicks are similar
i bump into the special spring in hidden base and ice mountain on complete accident all the time. advance 2 and 3 ask way more of you as far as finding special stages goes
this, i still think they are good games but the level design is really bad
>Shitting on Music Plant
You sicken me.
Advance 1 has the Mania issue of not feeling distinct, except it's even worse here due to the even smaller level count.
Secret Base and Egg Rocket are really good, and I wish more levels were like that. I can't remember a single thing about the casino area, the snow area, the sky temple area, or the Death Egg area.
At least the pixel art is good.
the casino zone is fun as long as you stay on the top. ice mountain is fun too if you know what you're doing but i hated it as a kid.
sonic advance 3 is ludo too whoever said it was shit probably gets lost in marble garden
sonic blast is like advance if it was actually shitty. even down to how you had to play it.
I'd say the Advanced series gets more then enough love these days. Still under-mentioned compared to the classic games but still brought up.
Hell, Advanced 2 was pretty much the true harbinger of "hold right to win."
I only started to appreciate it after Sonic 4ep1 came out.
it got plenty of love back in the old spriting days, SMBZ is canon btw
>this game doesn't get as much love as some of the other Sonic games.
Worst special stages in the franchise.
>Putting only one entry in one act in one zone as means to "encourage exploration"
>This means dicking around the whole level leading to boredom when you realize the spring isn't in the act you're in.
>the stages themselves have fricked perspective and timing
