It upgraded almost everything from previous gens. Except that it looks and runs like utter garbage.
And video games are 50% a visual medium. So yes, they're pretty terrible sadly. Hopefully palslop makes gamefreak sweat and they up their game (they won't).
My issue with the game is it gets most of what‘s important to me in a Pokémon game wrong. The map is fairly empty, the towns have basically no content, there‘s no Battle Facility, the exp share is still forced. The Team Star Bases and Titan Battles and the Pokemon League are incredibly underwhelming. There are few and underwhelming side activities. And yeah, the technical issues come on top of that with an overall lack of polish.
I personally do not share the sentiment that without the technical flaws this game would be one of the best in the series. There are a lot of issues (imo) far beyond the technical stuff.

Not a single update to increase performance and now dlc is finished there still won't be one, because it's too tough to do while releasing all those Mighty Mark Raids oh no!
It needs the fake enhancement patch that won't happen and a new expansion, although paying more money would be awful. If they re-release a physical Switch 2 version with new and old dlc then I'd get Violet this time and put my living dex in at the start.
