A focus on account progression to unlock things combined with smaller maps and smaller player counts.
Why they don't make multiplayer FPS like this anymore?
Seriously, it's so simple yet so impossible.
Also, I would like something that isn't a visual mess, I can't recognise enemies on screen
bc2 was shit
also doing fps for consoles ,. thats where it did wrong
>muh consoles
>smaller maps that encourages teamplay and playing the objective >>>>> big frick all maps with random deathmatches all over
>pretending that watering down the genre for everyone is good
no
So having a large map is more imporant than having a well designed one for you?
PC shooters always have had small maps too like in CS.
The issue is when console FPS becomes the ONLY FPS for a whole decade for both MP and SP.
I play on controller plenty. That's not the issue.
>The issue is when console FPS becomes the ONLY FPS for a whole decade
PC at that time had PC exclusive shooters like TF2, Red Orchestra 2, CS, Tribes, PR, ARMA the list goes on, you had plenty of options if you didnt want to play cawadooty or gaylo.
many evaporated by the time of halo3 and modern warfare and never recovered on the AAA. It's a fall that is still felt now, with the AAA refusing to dare make a PC shooter in 2023 (barring nu-DOOM, can you name the last PC spfps?)
Not to say PC players are blameless, most ate it up and Afps for example needed some means of pacing it never figured out. But it is the fall.
>many evaporated by the time of halo3 and modern warfare and never recovered
homie wat
All of those I listed were more active back then and for serveral years ahead then than they are right now.
>muh arenafps
Arena fpses were long dead even before UT3 released in 2007.
maps that encourages teamplay and playing the objective
That's not the reason why BC2 had teamwork, teamwork was present in that game because of the limited & exclusive equipment of the classes, which is something that was present in in older games too such as BF2 or BF1942. The argument that small maps force teamwork falls flat when you consider the maximum playercount of BC2 (32p), so the maps are still technically 'large' for the aforementioned playercount.
You could still solo pretty easy in BC2 if you really wanted to. Think the easier gunplay had a part in that, in BF2 the gunplay was made to be dogshit so that you would work togheter in squads to make it not so dogshit. The objectives in BC2 is usually were most of the action happened anyway so people who just wanted to frag homies went over there and they helped out their team. In later battlefields most of the maps are so shit that alot of people just give up playing the objective because the map is garbage and there's no way your team is gonna turn around the match, so they just start fragging people for their own enjoyment at that point. I also think making the regular infantry guy the medic instead of giving it to the heavy weapons guy leads to alot of people not caring about playing medics, instead of people deliberately picking the medic class like in BC2 because they want to be a help to their team.
>You could still solo pretty easy in BC2 if you really wanted to. Think the easier gunplay had a part in that, in BF2 the gunplay was made to be dogshit so that you would work togheter in squads to make it not so dogshit
The gunplay of BF2 wasn't designed to encourage teamwork, it was made that way due to the fast TTK of the weapons in that game that did a lot damage compared to the later games, if BF2 had BC2's gunplay the engagement ranges and weapon balance would've been far worse.
Also, the reason why the later games lack teamwork is also tied what I mentioned before regarding the equipment; DICE went way too far with the amount of the loadout customization which allowed people to play for themselves while also neglecting teammates.
>I also think making the regular infantry guy the medic instead of giving it to the heavy weapons guy leads to alot of people not caring about playing medics
Again, this has nothing to do with the the primary weapons, Medics became selfish because of the issue regarding class customization and the introduction of the small medkit which is present from BF4 and onwards that let Medics heal themselves only instead of the big medkit.
>is present from BF4 and onwards that let Medics heal themselves only instead of the big medkit.
the small medkit is way better for healing your teamates though
the crate/bag you place down takes forever so its way better to run around and toss out the bags which heal 20 health a second (give or take)
the loadout customization is defnitely a big part of it though, being able to equip a DMR, grenade launcher, normal grenades, and a medkit makes the assult/medic class way to powerful
>the small medkit is way better for healing your teamates though
The big medkit is better for teamplay because it's capable of healing multiple teammates passively in its AO, and when Medics throw a big medkit to heal themselves they'd also indirectly heal others that come across looking for regain HP, this is not the case with the small medkit that promotes selfish players who heal themselves so that they'd dick wave their KD ratio on Battlelog. Remember that DICE had to nerf the big medkit since they introduced the small medkit for 'balancing purposes' (i.e. they wanted to encourage people to use the small medkit).
>the loadout customization is defnitely a big part of it though, being able to equip a DMR, grenade launcher, normal grenades, and a medkit makes the assult/medic class way to powerful
It really isn't, in BF4 the DMRs are the worst of the primary weapons in BF4, there's no point using a DMR as Assault in BF4 when you could pick up something easier and powerful such as an AR. Using a grenade launcher is also useless and it also hurts teamplay because you could've used a Defibrillator which would've been vital not only for players but also the team as a while since revives prevent ticket loss in a gamemode such as Conquest.
Both the small medkit issue and the loadout customization are factors that led to poor teamplay and interaction between players, that's why they were so many complaints of people talking about players not doing their roles, and that's because DICE introduced features that hurt teamwork and the viability of the classes.

dude my whole point is saying customization hurts teamplay and class balance
It does hurt teamplay indeed but it wouldn't necessarily ruin the class balance: the class is already powerful and viable but the loadout customization of a game such as BF4 allows players the chance to unfortunately downplay a powerful class like Medic.
I think BF2042 is a better example regarding the balance between the specialists though.
>limitations
get fricked halo kid
not true, mil sims like Arma have frick huge maps yet you literally have to create squads and cooperate or you won't last long
The difference is that in arma you transport yourself to the area of the map where the fighting happens and that area is probably smaller than the average battlefield map anyway. There's also the fact that the gunplay is way harder in ARMA than BF so you literally can't and shouldn't solo unless you have some sort of huge advantage already.
>There's also the fact that the gunplay is way harder in ARMA than BF
Why is this so? IRL guns are op, literally death rays comparing to video games water sprinklers.
There is reason best Arma game is PUBG.
FPS is more soul on controller
Halo was built around that, yes, but pointing mechanics overall work best and are more fun on PC
Fps being mainly for console
i will add the qualifier that this is mainly for the AAA, indies and mods are fine, and there are a few exceptions.
Devs discovered that releasing the same game over and over again is more profitable
i'm pretty sure that's precisely what has led to people now being soured on the ip.
That image that has "just trying to recapture the feeling of playing halo 2 with the bros" for me its BFBC2, man that game was so fricking good. Online was amazing fun.
>no claymores
>mo ucavs
>armor is decent but not moronic
Man frick EA. I tried playing the game online again ,but they asked for a code which I had and it says that it doesnt work even though I literally launched this from steam. I even talked with some homosexual customer support who did not fricking help and was just a waste of time.
They shut down the servers back in december. Use project rome instead, think you can even play it with a pirated version.
I tried that shit 3 years ago
it's more active now than the offical servers were before they shut it down.
according to steam charts it doesnt even hit 100 players anymore. I doubt that there are that many pirates playing this shit.
i dont think steam keeps track of project rome stats
and besides, the game was also delisted from digital storefronts
Holy shit it actually is
you mean you didnt know?
God I loved the Vietnam DLC so much
yeah that shit was tight
BF2 was better than BC2, so was BF3 and BF4
Keep coping in maps the size of my backyard
t. tank Black person who moonlights as a wookie
Nah, I fly helicopters and jets. BF2 had the best controls by far
It was a 50% chance. That or tank Black folk are the only people I've seen not like BC2
I just don't like small maps in my games. Even playing an infantry I rather play on a large map where I can hide and ambush.
Irrelevant now, arma spoiled me so I'm never coming back to BF
speaking of, when is arma4 coming out?
Never imo. Reforger will kill BI as it sort of exposed their hand for everyone to see
what did it expose? that they suck ass?
>that they suck ass?
Yes. No good programmers left, only greedy israelites and pajeet tier code monkeys. Also, quite probably, no funds.
The fact that they pushed Reforger out the door in the state it is shows it perfectly. It wasn't a miscalculation or an error, it was a cash grab. Could probably call it an exit scam.
suxx.
>That or tank Black folk are the only people I've seen not like BC2
really? I'm a tank guy I tanks in BFBC2 are one of the best in the series.
I like BC2 more than BF3 and 4 because it's just tight. BF3 and 4 I played a lot of, but at the same time, even when they launched I remember feeling distinctly like they didn't feel all that ambitious, like it was a step down from the BF2-derived games that came before.
>M60 on release was basically a sniper rifle with the fire rate of a machine gun
it was so great farming wookie ass-hurt with it
>m2CG launcher on launch
was a mini nuke launcher. the triples were crazy
>not gettin farmed by tanks every 10 seconds
maybe the bf formula just doesn't work anymore? maybe people have become completely burned out and just can't take any more battlefield? i remember battlefield 1942 being the absolute shit back in the day, but i just can't take any more of it. i'm totally done with battlefield for a long, long while, personally. also, i don't play alone because that just sucks and none of the friends are into bf anymore and so i really don't have a reason to play it at all now, anymore. bf is fun with homies, it sucks when it's just you all alone, there on the bf.
I miss it bros
It's overrated like Far Cry 2
The campaign was alright
Is there any way to play this for free or such?
pirate it and play on the project rome server
>play this game for the first time
>sitting in a room hiding from a tank outside
>the tank fires at the wall adjacent to me and the whole thing goes down
>I scramble out of there like a rat into the next room for cover
This is one of the most "next-gen" feels I had in a game, next to playing MGS2 for the first time. DICE really was something special 10+ years ago. I had been playing Battlefield games for literally decades and it sucks knowing this company is dead and gone now and will never return almost entirely due to woke-ism.
sucks no one plays the modded client
and if they do its 64 players and 1200000 ticket counts :/
>Where did FPS games go so horribly wrong?
Where SBBM was implemented.
SBBM=fun stolen.
>using the drone to crush snipers on the enemy team
I loved this game so damn much.
It was so good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6cRoAffCck
Based OP
Here's a quick reminder why Bad Company 2 is the superior frostbite battlefield.
>better class balance
>better map balance (no Metro-tier maps)
>tactical (and useful!) destruction
>vehicles are good without being OP (no Jets or Little Birds farming infantry kills)
>hit detection was decent despite running at 30hz tickrate
>all maps were free (no premium)
>Rush and Conquest were the only gamemodes and maps were made SPECIFICALLY for these gamemodes
>gunplay was fun and varied despite the arsenal being very limited
>perks/class upgrades were useful and promoted teamplay
>one good player could make a difference due to the 32 player limit
I'm thinking of getting pic related printed as a poster in memory of BC2.
Is there a better pic that captures the true essence the BC2 multiplayer?
which genre that was fun in 2010 has actually improved in the last 14 years? they all the shit the bed.
I used to be top 1000 on the Xbox 360 leaderboards.Best battlefield game. Also get the frick on bf4 right now.
i wanna go back to comfy bc2 days
It was perfect in term of customization, just a little bit.
nowadays you have too much customization that's it's limiting your gameplay style per round.
Tanks now have two much customization instead of just basic few.
instead of 4 or even more types of shells, we had the Improved Warheads Package that Increases damage of all vehicle weapons by 25%. you don't have to do autism thinking and plan to far ahead too much when it become a chore.
