And then RE3R and RE4R instantly shat all over that premise by showing that music adds heaps to the atmosphere of third person RE

It’s funny because enabling the classic OST adds back in music where it’s normally silent in the remake. So in a way they are literally selling you the game’s soundtrack separately.
Capcom's monetization routes have been kinda interesting with these remakes. I think they hit upon a good formula with RE4R of just making everything painfully tedious to unlock without paying for everything. Nobody can defend buying soundtracks but people will defend difficulty even if it's blatantly just there to scam normies into paying for unlocks

There is, the original, which is a much better experience. RE4R by itself is just a 7/10. It's not innovative, it doesn't have the humor of the original, it doesn't have the best graphics, it doesn't have an amazing gameplay, it doesn't even have a good horror atmosphere like 7. It's just a serviceable game, that gets outshined by the original.

This reminds me. I played the original a long time ago on PS1, but recently I played the remake through on Claire's A path first and generally hada good time, though I did use the guide so that I wouldn't miss all the collectible shit in given rooms that you need to go through both campaigns in order to unlock etc. Overall I thought it was perhaps equal if not better than the original, and the addition of Mr. X created a lot more anxiety than the original in that one respect. Though the aforementioned collectibles also did a good bit. I certainly ddn't finish fast,but I did finish completely and it felt more in depth. I'm getting ready to play Leon's as the 2nd run / B story which apparently has some benefits - I remember playng the PS1 version where I did the same thing (I think you only got to kiss Ada in Leon B maybe? Or that she shows up to toss you the gear for the final battle?) , but i've not gone back to do my REMake2 Leon B run, which I really need to do so, which should then unlock Hunk, Tofu and all the variants / minigames (which seem really neat that there are more this time. All the various flavors of tofu, konjac etc.) . before I move onto REMake3 and REMake4.
Its really not the same game. It shares some of the same locations and the characters have the same names but otherwise everything about the two games is different.
