Lol frick off nobody thinks this. VCS is cool but it’s more like a lower budget expansion pack made to sell PSPs, which is exactly what it was. VCS is way better than it has any right to be.

It's better than SA
I go back and forth between this and 3 being the best, but Vice City had the biggest impact on my tastes in real life and when I was a kid, I felt like “oh wow it’s a video game about my parents world that’s cool”.
You just can’t beat those aesthetics, you can’t be the 80’s, and you can’t beat that soundtrack. Tommy Vercetti set the standard for voiced protagonists and the story, while purposely derivative, is just perfect. It has the greatest licensed soundtrack ever for a video game to this day.
Not at all. The world is pathetic in comparison, the islands you can unlock are a big disappointment, not being able to swim in the game with the Miami setting is pathetic, bad car variety, shitty characters, derivative, only like four good songs, mission design too repetitive, 0 interesting interactivity
Don't let the nice HUD and supposed 70s style fool you
nta the message out of touch raining blood all night long atomic four little diamonds rock box pale shelter hold the line super strut the ost has more good music than bad and if you differ you just have bad taste
>listing subtle shit
VC isn't an immersive game anymore. In SA you can go fast for a while and let your thoughts wander because the world isn't just tiny islands and you will listen to iconic bangers back to back, that still somewhat holds up
The no swimming thing really doesn't make sense given the beachfront setting but as for the rest >bad car variety
between the motorcycles, boats and helicopters it had way more vehicle variety than III and comparing it to later entries in kind of unfair >derivative
All satire is by definition >only like four good songs
just blatantly false
GTA’s satirical radio ads and talk radio have always been garbage, cringey Scottish "humour" full stop. Their Eurojank game design continues to be found even in giant budget RDR2.
>cringey Scottish "humour
Lazlow and the Houser brothers were the ones who wrote the radio stations, neither are Scottish. And you are wrong, Chatterbox is hilarious.
>The world is pathetic in comparison
The world is lacking even compared to 3. I love the 80s vibe as much as the next guy but looking back, that's pretty much the only thing VC has going for it.
>mfw firefighter, vigilante, ambulance or taxi missions on Sh*reside Vale >every mission gives you a timer that is like 3/5ths of a reasonable and fair amount of time because the map is all fricked up and has a shit layout so if you make a single mistake while going full speed the entire way you lose
It is, I just hate SA and post-SA writing in GTA, it's all about whining scum. Also, VS maybe doesn't have too much of cool missions, but every cool mission is better than any mission in SA.
Out with it, little homosexual. You know what you really hate about SA. At least be honest and stop dancing around the subject, like the whining scum you supposedly hate.
What a fruitcake.
Yeah, it is no contest. SA has an awful setting, terrible missions, cringe writing, etc. There's a reason VC has been decompiled while SA continues to rot in the pits of hell.
>There's a reason VC has been decompiled while SA continues to rot in the pits of hell.
The reason is they were doing the 6th gen titles in order until Rockstar threatened legal action and scared them away during VC's decomp.
I can sometimes come back to VC post-game just to frick with the cops. In SA, messing with the cops just isn't as fun for some reason. I don't know why.
VC was certainly a blast at the time of release to play and explore and it added to the III formula, but looking back the map kind of sucks balls and the gritty atmosphere of III feels way more GTA to me. Between SA and VC I would rather go back and play SA, though V kind of makes SA feel obsolete in a massive way.
Honestly, if I had to choose a GTA to play it would be gta2 on PC.
its amazing how this series got progressively worse with each installment. gta 3 was amazing, vc was a huge letdown that added more busywork bullshit at the expense of gameplay, sa continued that trend and also made you a basketball american, gta4 made everything scripted and took away any sense of player creativity. never played gta5
>boring busywork >pretty unfulfilling final missions and conclusion to the story >some good characters but their stories don't go anywhere and the missions you receive are really dull >map feels extremely tiny >aesthetics were nice - a big departure from the grime of III but still was unique enough. >amazing radio stations >some innovations in the games like planes bikes property
overall it just feels rushed but that's because it was, so it's a little hard to shit on it too much. i don't really find myself wanting to return to it that much, i'd prefer going III if that was the case.
I think swimming needs to be in GTA, but I also want to say that no swimming in GTA3/VC isn’t a negative either. It makes it more “video gamey”.
Nothing like beating a hooker to death after getting the health boost, walking over gigantic glowing neon stacks of cash, stealing a car while the cops chase you, and accidentally hitting a high curb so you jump off into a body of water where you accept your character’s death because you played too sloppy is just a feel you won’t get with modern games or modern GTA.
Yeah this is why swimming never really bothered me in the older installments. Added a bit of anxiety during boat-related missions and if you did die in the water and had to re-buy your supply, it added a bit more difficulty to the game since you couldn't just be insanely powerful 24/7. I'm glad it's in newer games, but it was never really something that bothered me too much because so little of the games were based around the water anyways.
Lol frick off nobody thinks this. VCS is cool but it’s more like a lower budget expansion pack made to sell PSPs, which is exactly what it was. VCS is way better than it has any right to be.

You didn't mention a single thing about the actual gameplay or maps lel so I'm not sure why you think people could have different opinions on VCS than you. >YOU CAN'T BEAT DA 80s BABEHHHHH!!!!
what a selling point.
VCS also takes place in the 80s guy, it just does a worse job of realizing it.
Any game that takes place in the 1980s is automatically better because that’s the peak of the empire.
The gameplay and map is great. The map feels small when you play with no fog on PC or a modern port. The map feels extremely different than GTA3, which is exactly what it needed to be.
VCS just does not have the polish its big brother has. It’s amazingly fun and a great game but it was made for a smaller audience on weaker specs with a fraction of the budget and it shows (though not that much, they did a nice job). They also basically have the same exact map with minor changes so why even say this?
You already said you didn't live in the 80s though, so why are you claiming it does a poor job realizing it? Because it's not a flat out copy of Scarface? It has Phil Collins in it, which makes it feel quite of it's time.
>The map feels small when you play with no fog on PC or a modern port
The map felt small even on a PS2, GTFO. I have no idea what you even meant by this. There is so much wasted space not even used too, which is hilarious considering how small it all is to begin with. VCS does has minor changes but also uses the map more effectively and makes some areas of the map more convenient to get to or drive around in. I will say it has more interiors, despite a lot of them being pointless or only for side activities but they are there.
>Fraction of the budget
Lol, even if the game was made with $100 dollars... it has so much content and things to do it's surprising how playable it is for a game that came out on a handheld.
anon i was just making a small quip about how you mentioned nothing about the actual gameplay of VC as to why it was better than 3 or VCS.
Anyways your nostalgia is heavily blinding you here so there's no point having a real discussion when you think VC is somehow miles above "talking about da real 80s (that i didn't live through lol!)" compared to VCS. dumb, dumb, dumb discussion.

I’ve played both games, when they were new, both on PS2. There was only four years between their release so it isn’t “nostalgia blinding me”. VCS has a few features VC doesn’t and about half the production value. It’s the lesser of the two games. I can’t see how anyone would prefer a stories game over a mainline title. What aspect does VCS do better than VC? It’s a rhetorical question because it’s nothing, but it’s also a very good game so that’s not a problem.

Why do you keep bringing up production value like that holds any genuine merit? The main story of Vice City is really fricking dull. Tommy is extremely one-dimensional and it doesn't help that his co-stars are used terribly >sonny's contribution to the plot outside of the very beginning and the literal end is next to nothing >vance betrays you at the very last second and then is killed a minute later, whereas previous and future GTA games handle betrayal so much better >VCS has a really strong trio of antagonists that keep the plot rolling from start to finish instead of just big peaks sprinkled throughout it >gun-targeting and melee combat heavily improved in VCS >ability to swim in VCS >larger selection of vehicles in VCS that also brings in a strong variety >visuals are improved in VCS with stronger sunsets and a more refined polished look to the typical 80s theme >small QOL tweaks in VCS like tracking for various things on the map >island progression makes sense to building overall experience >missions are so, so, SO much better in VCS >building buying and control is kinda cool, to each their own
anyways i'm done here. if you still can't see how someone would prefer VCS over VC then that's just you being stupid because it really isn't an unpopular opinion on the internet.

The main problem with VCS is it ends up being far too easy due to the ability to buy back weapons after being wasted/busted and the seemingly infinite amount of Empire Building money you get. It isn't a challenge to complete the game with those features included.
I remember rushing straight through the storyline the first time I played it and being massively disappointed. It was only when I replayed it that I appreciated what it was aiming for, but still can't get over how easy the game becomes.

I blind played through the trilogy for the very first time this summer, money and weapons were never really an issue with all 3 of the games. The only time it was an issue was right at the beginning before I could explore the maps and find the spawn points.
Then it all becomes totally trivial with hidden package hunting anyway.

You are really autistic about VCS. It’s a nice little side game, it ain’t better than big daddy Vice City. I didn’t say you couldn’t have this opinion, you are completely sperging out for no reason. It also has worse graphics, even on PS2. The models are more simplified and the textures are of worse quality and there is more pop-in because it’s a port of a handheld game. It has LESS post processing effects. The missions of VCS are just takes on missions from 3 to SA, which is fine, but that doesn’t mean they are better lol.

no i'm not autistic, i am just trying to have a nuanced discussion where you lay out genuine points for discussion rather than the usual horseshit Ganker & /vr/ do where they just say bland terms like "the combat is better" without actually talking about specifics. i don't care which game you enjoy more, i do care that you properly express yourself.

You clearly weren't looking for a discussion given you've addressed nothing that other Anon said in response.
The mood was there but the map never sat well with me. It felt really wonky and even though it is small I couldn't properly map it in my head for some reason.
The atmosphere was top notch. I was hoping that Rockstar went more in the direction of stylized "period" games than what we got.
nta but I'm fairly certain it's implied big smoke is using OG loc to launder his crack money, making him the face and an accessory. that said the actual bad guy was clearly tenpenny
Pretty sure I have all the Toni dialogue and ads from this station burned into my head. I started playing some of the game today for the first time in like 7-8 months and could actually recite it word for word as it played. Also I wish Toni was real so I could frick her in the mouth

Nah
It's not even better than GTA III.
Sonny Forelli is the man! He’s all serious business whereas OG Loc is too comic relief to be the main bad guy.
Sonny looks the part of the main antagonist for Vice City. OG Loc is some mid-carder.

I like SA more but I think it's fair to prefer III and VC since they definitely have a distinct gameplay feel to them
shit lazy bait thread
you're all morons
you can enjoy both games yknow
bye c**ts
I'll play San Andreas if there's a mod where you play as a white guy.
That already exists newbie
I doubt, it's like sminem life
III is better than both Vice City and San Andreas
based
i'll go a step further and say that gta 3 is the only worthwhile 3D entry in the series
Yep. Best aesthetics and most of the missions are pretty fun. Too bad the ending sucks but otherwise it's great

GTA SA was ambitious and had double the dev time of VC, but all things considered I enjoy playing the story more in 3 and VC.
>glorified DLC
Expansion pack.
I remember half of the missions being tutorials for useless, tacked on mechanics and features that barely get used in the actual game
3/IV>VC>SA
5 feels like a different game
So does IV. Take that to Wrong board.
all three of them are masterpieces
>can’t swim
>shit camera control
nah
Is the remaster of III considered okay on the basis that it didn't lose any licensed music, and now has better controls?
If you're talking about the Definitive Edition then no. It is dogshit.
even after all the patches? What's still shit about it?
It's ugly as sin.
>even after all the patches?
They didn't even patch wrong collision on a map or physics for road poles, now they just fall under the map
