>It's better than the first game at everything but story
Maybe it's because I wasn't that attached to the first game like so many others, but I find the sequel to the better game. The animations are better, the controls respond better, aiming is made better by the inclusion of motion/gyro options, overall more responsive, there's significantly more stuff to use your resources on, more upgrade paths, better sound design, etc. The encounters and level design are leaps and bounds better than the first. They both have their fair share of empty areas, but with the 2nd one it's seems like side areas are actually populated with zombies or survivors to kill, small puzzles to solve, or (albeit very limited) platforming while the first didn't feature anything like that. The enemy design is more varied even though a lot the differences are small changes in tactics like likeliness to use melee or ambushes, that is still more than the first game offers. Also the cat and mouse gameplay is helped massively by news ways to hide and get around the map. If the original Last of Us was a 6/10, I'd say that this is a solid 7/10.

I agree completely
Damn, that guy has a nice butt.
This place wants to believe that there is no gameplay for some reason
But so much of the game is walky talky. If there was more combat I'd be down but I hate the characters and design so putting up with that for 3 hours maybe of fun is bullshit.
I didn't feel that way at all. I mean between the theater all the way up to the hospital is almost constant gameplay or enemy encounters, which surprised even me given the first game's tendency to have long sections of nothing.
after you finish the game you can play every combat scenario
The only reason people play this series is for the story, the rest don’t matter
nah, it has the best gameplay of any stealth action game, I couldn't give a shit about the story
I heard there are only 4 hours of gunplay in the entire game, rest is story, slow walking or pressing x to get item
I love this game but can't bring myself to play through it a second time.
Cringe
the gameplay of the first wasn't particularly good past the first couple of hours
so having a fine tuned version of it with the worst story told in a videogame yet isn't a good deal for many
for comparison you could argue ubisoft has improved the gameplay of far cry titles but does it even matter?
>the gameplay of the first wasn't particularly good past the first couple of hours
Agreed
>so having a fine tuned version of it with the worst story told in a videogame yet isn't a good deal for many
I don't think either game's story is all that, but the worst in all gaming is a stretch, at least imo.
>for comparison you could argue ubisoft has improved the gameplay of far cry titles but does it even matter
If you can make the case for it, I don't see why not or how it doesn't matter.
because every far cry title since 3 was increasingly duller and devoid of personality, better shooting or driving really don't make up for it
The best part was the hotel basement though.
That’s how I look at it. I can also see past a bad story, but LoU2’s narrative is so stretched out and goes on for such a long time. The gameplay is very good at times, but it takes absolutely forever to get there. Its not even about patience, the story is just ridiculous in how slow paced it is. It’s a strange case where I would say the sequel is actually worse despite so much of the gameplay being an improvement.
lmao Abby's Day 2 was incredible
Incredible? In what way? Fighting the zombies was the worst part of LoU1 and 2. The first half of day 2 had alright level design in fight the seraphites on the rooftops, but that it, and it’s not even the best the game had to offer.
Wait a minute, that pool looks familiar
No it's not.
The first game had infinitely better pacing and setpieces, plus far longer stretches of time where you're actually playing the game.
By the time you're properly starting TLoU 2 in the Seattle area you'd already be past the point where Tess dies in the first game.
Terrible game, terrible deconstruction of what made it good, the characters. I knew something was fricking wrong when Joel started walking around with his shirt tucked in. Stupid ass game, stupid characters, esp pregnant lady running around and fighting. Stopped once the troony kid and lesbo were the new joel and daughter relationship. Stupid ass game with stupid ass woke politics. Frick this game. I am done with naughty dog and will never spend on a game from them again.
>terrible deconstruction of what made it good, the characters.
What made the original good was specifically the internal struggles of the characters dealing with their traumas, which is also the driving narrative of the sequel.
>Joel started walking around with his shirt tucked in
Are you moronic? This was important enough to add to your post?
>pregnant lady
She's in half of a chapter and you have to help her in it too.
>deconstruction
The most overused, meaningless word. Whether it's here, Ganker, Ganker....
Liked the violence, that's about it. Wish it w as a battle royal or looter shooter. Didn't need the story.
I don't know if the story was better or worse, but I'm glad it was different and not a repeat of the first
I want an explanation from you guys regarding this part. How the in the name of frick did Ellie fix a rocket to fly into space then land in the exact same place she took off from? The rocket shouldn't even have worked.
Holy shit, they really go to space in this game?
Fricking hell what a trashfire. No wonder the story is dogshit
It’s the apocalypse, they have access to all that nasa data and equipment left behind, it was easy for them to travel to the space station. The landing back on earth was all preprogrammed.
It is a story driven game.
trash writing + awful character design + atrocious plot = shit game
It is as simple as that. It doesn't matter how good the combat or world design is, when the storytelling of a story driven game is pure and unadulterated shit.
>trash writing
>Th-they killed muh husbando s-so it's trash writing
GROW UP
>defend CW the video game
>tells others to grow up
kek
Just finished this and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m pretty glad I didn’t listen to Ganker. The pozzed shit wasn’t even that bad either. Much better than the first game as well. What are some other adventure games with great storytelling?
Control, God of War, Horizon, Uncharted 4, but honestly nothing's gonna come close to TLOU2. I've had a hole in my heart since finishing it and nothing has come close to filling it.
Thank god it bombed.
>i-it flopped I sweat guys
Cope tendies
Any updates? No? Than I'm free to call it a flop.
Duke Nukem 3D was a flop
With that logic you'd call all Sony games a flop. They don't regularly update sales numbers for their games.
>all these buzzwords and arbitrary metrics
>no actual sales
Tell me, why is sony, a company well known for bragging about it’s sales numbers, refusing to release the sales numbers of an “astounding success” like TLOU2? All this slide shows is a bunch of meme metrics such as “3rd best selling PS4 game on a friday in June in dollar sales in the US”, its just damage control to keep investors from suspected shit
>tendies
tendies live inside your brain rent free
I felt the same way OP. Tried making this point on here before, but you always get shouted down. The story is utter dogshit and totally unsatisfying but the gameplay is genuinely very good, and I wish more action games with stealth elements would incorporate some of the things in TLOU2, even if they're just basic "crouching in grass is context dependent and doesn't make you completely hidden" things.
most of the gameplay elements are from uncharted 4, only thing new it did was prone.
I hate both games, they represent a step backwards for the medium with how they don't trust the gameplay at all to carry any of the big moments, instead defaulting to cinematic narrative for everything except the scenes that are best summarized as "then they went to [destination]"
Yes, if only it was actually consistently gameplay and had fricking factions
Give me fricking factions, holy shit dude. What the frick. I seriously cannot believe it could still be years away
I’m so butthurt about the multi. I was fricking seething when they said it was cancelled for release and all these homosexualS were happy about it. Then I read it’d be released later but still nothing. Instead it’s just homosexuals crying about the story for 2 years.
the PS5 has no games
>final fantasy
Is that out?
You are correct.
I actually think the story's better too. Less "airtight" maybe, but more interesting, ambitious, and layered.
>more interesting, ambitious, and layered.
Good Intent=/=Good execution
I think it was well-executed too, but not looking to argue about it. I wish more of Ganker had been able to play it unspoiled.
>I wish more of Ganker had been able to play it unspoiled.
Wouldn't have changed a thing with it's Soap Opera levels of writing, To me it's like the Last Jedi or Prometheus, pretty enough to fool some into believing it's better than the shallow trash heaps they were
The story is really well told and a much deeper than the first game. It managed to explore several themes outside the father daughter relationship of the first. It's sad you're so jaded you can't enjoy anything unironically anymore, but then again, not my problem.
>The story is really well told and a much deeper than the first game.
It tries to be, but it really fails miserably for me, the story was borderline juvenile.
>Like you didn't understand why those movies sucked ass
I didn't say they sucked in the same way, I said they were defended for the same reasons, but go off.
>I said they were defended for the same reasons, but go off.
What reason is that then?
The characters were completely consistent with what was previously established about them. The comparison to The Last Jedi or Prometheus is frankly fricking moronic. Like you didn't understand why those movies sucked ass.
TLOUpt2 has clear rationalization for everything the characters do ONSCREEN, unlike TLJ and Prometheus.
>Matthewmatosis
Great gameplay, shit story. That sums it up. Did a second playthrough recently and enjoyed it. In regards to the story, I’m over it. Couldn’t give a shit
I'll get it when it's 10-15 bucks.
"Better" doesn't matter much when the first game was dogshit. It wasn't a good TPS, it wasn't a good survival game, it was DEFINITELY not a good stealth game. The only reason people liked it was the story, so if you make the story bad, what's the point?
It's just a poor retread of the first game.
The story itself is actually pretty solid, I think it's a pretty meaningful extension of Ellie as a character and I loved watching her arc unfold. Gameplay is a huge step up and it's probably the best looking PS4 game. That said, I did not need to play as Abby for almost half the game and played through all her parts on the easiest setting just to get through them.
>played through all her parts on the easiest setting j
Weird
I didn't feel invested enough in her as a character to justify playing through 20 hours just to advance the plot. The gameplay as Abby was kino but I just could not give a frick about her even after playing through her whole arc.
I'm playing through it after getting a free trial for psnow and downloading it. The story is pretty boring, characters are alright though. The game definitely drags with the walk n talk segments but shootouts are lots of fun.
There's a segment where Ellie is going through suburban Seattle that was a fricking blast. The stealth, gunplay and melee combat are all basic but mesh together very well. Picking off human enemies and dogs and then ambushing smaller groups is a ton of fun. Guns and weapons have a nice sound and impact, the gore is good and so are the panicky voice lines from NPCs.
One thing that bugs me I forgot to mention, enemies drop a bunch of different guns and I wish I could take one of their fricking M14s
I didn't like the first game so I didn't bother with the sequel
if the gameplay's so good why is there no multiplayer?
