The point was that Ultimate Spider-Man had Peter Parker die in a dramatic storyline that concluded his story, but Ultimate was selling well. So Miles was made as a replacement for him. Since then, though, he's been brought over to the mainline universe for some reason.
All other popular super-heroes get replacements/side-kicks. There was a whole arc of Batman where a Robin served as Batman. I think it was called Black Mirror. I know it's easy to just dismiss all this as virtue signaling, but it's not this time. Miles debuted in 2011, before we were in our current political climate where everything is about race, lgbt, and inclusivity. This is just normal superhero shit. Where the protege eventually becomes the master.

Miles got put in a cartoon for a single episode in 2015, he then becomes a mainstay for the last season of USM in 2016. He then gets a full time spot in the 2017 cartoon.
In 2018 Miles was put into the games, and in 2020 he received a game all to himself, something no one else has gotten outside of Peter.
