>live service shit for a story-based beat em up >shit gameplay >characters looked like bargain bin MCU toys
Kamala a cute though, and don't let these homosexuals tell you otherwise
if they had the same actors and came out when endgame was out then it would have easily made billions.
>live service pushed too hard >didnt bother to make the story campaign stand-alone with the live service separate, i believe?
Honestly people said the story campaign was "fine", so I cant imagine why they didnt just sell that separately for cheap and if anybody was mad enough to want more could upgrade to the live service version.
Because GAAS make bank buy they didn’t know that’s super rare and mostly for f2p stuff. Only GAAS that makes bank and is paid us sports games but that’s a completely different beast
The hope is that the story mode would get people hooked on the game and they'd want to keep playing. Of course it didn't work out that way and splitting it off after the fact wouldn't have made any sense considering the backlash already
surely at the rate the game was bombing; releasing a more accessible version for those curious could have at least reaped some profit instead of keeping it at full price and seeing it going further into the red?
As people have said, it was a combination of it being a live service and having a cast that was basically "We've got the Avengers at home."
There's also the issue that Crystal Dynamics got sold off, but Square Enix still holds the publishing rights. Support contracts would probably have been a nightmare, and I guess Square Enix just decided to sunk-cost it.
Apparently, the campaign is pretty decent, but given the Guardians of the Galaxy game also flopped, I'm starting to wonder if it would have done well as a single-player game.
- Characters that don't look and sound like the ones from MCU.
- Came out too late. After Endgame, where the MCU fatigue started.
- Always online. GAAS.
- Kamala is the main character in the campaign who comes off as a mary sue who solves all the problems the other more powerful, experienced and super intelligent heroes can't.
>game as a service >corporate greed >marvel disney >the most bland and generic enemies >mcu lookalikes >main story revolves around punching robots until it's over
>heavy focus on Kamala Khan, whom no one gives a shit about >marketing was a jumbled mess and forgot to advertise that there was a single-player campaign >the multiplayer stuff was repetitive, instanced matchmaking on the same 3-4 maps with the same 3-4 objectives >no exploration or in-game lobbies so you can dick around with your friends and have fun
and most egregiously >NO FRICKING SPIDER-MAN
>GAAS trash >Ms. Marvel as the main character of your AVENGERS game >clearly trying to look like MCU actors without the licensing so they all look like Dollar General equivalents >trying to follow MCU hype years after the hype has died >barely any supervillains to fight, just a bunch of faceless robots >set up grand DLC plans, but barely release any new heroes. So bad that the first two are Hawkeye and Hawkeye: Girl Edition >Spider-Man stuck on PS5 which only further pissed people off >by the time that Black Panther update came out and actually added some content nobody cared anymore
I’m sure I could go on but that’s the bulk of it
The last character planned was War Machine but never made it completely through development so they just released the model as the last released skin for the game for Ironman.
Spider-Man wasn't trying to be the movies though. That's partly why that one was successful. Square Enix didn't have any original ideas for this Avengers game
the ubisoft games sold more then the avengers, the ones based off the shitty amazing spider-man movies, if you make a spider-man game he will sell thats the point. The avengers don't have that guarantee success
I thought you were talking about the Insomniac game. But Avengers are kinda household names, so it's not really a recognition/character issue. The problem here was execution, and trying to do too much at once
no they are not, it might surprise you but it has NOTHING to do with execution. it has to do with the fact that the avengers and the guardians don't have appeal beyond the movies. Movie fans don't want fake mcu, and game fans don't want fake mcu. The best solution just do the comics thats why ultimate alliance 3 did so well it wasn't trying to convince mcu fans to play their game.

I'm not following your logic here. There's nothing wrong with the characters, and no one fricking cares if they're movie versions or not. You think John Doe gives a damn about the Captain America shirt he's wearing because it's the comic version and not Chris Evans? No, he doesn't., he just likes Cap
They could easily make infinity war game, use the movie for the voice acting and just implement better fights for the key scenarios like the wakanda fight
When this game was coming out I told people I didn't think it would do well and was constantly met with >It's the avengers people love marvel they'll buy it just for iron man >It one of those play forever games like destiny and fortnite people will get addicted to this and they'll keep making more and more
And I was told the exact same shit about stadia, that it would do well because Google is investing in it etc etc
It seems like every time there's a blatantly obvious failure coming from a big corporation there's a million people screaming it'll be a smash hit until it finally fails and everyone says "Oh yeah I saw that coming the day they announced it"
The same thing happen with Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, Hogwarts Legacy, ZSelda, etc, etc. Every big thing/game that comes out is meet with a mob that doomposts it and a mob that defends it. imo both sides are exhausting and it's better to just let it play out and enjoy what you enjoy. Unless what you enjoy is shitposting on one of these sides which then please go on.
It happens all the time. It's easy to tell when a game will be shit, yet normalgays get mad when you tell them this. After they buy it, they defend it like gospel for a week. Then when official reviewers say it sucks, suddenly they hate it too.
Each time I consider maybe buying it because its so cheap I see Kamala Khan's big stupid ugly face and move on. I still cant handle such a lame boring character being pushed so hard.
That's very easily disprovable. Pokemon is 25+ years old and the most profitable franchise ever. Internationally massive. Just off the top of my head.
The key is either reboots that keep the spirit of the series and don't scare the fanbase off while maintaining a certain level of quality, or episodic series with status quos that basically never change.
I own it on PC but I heard Spiderman got put into the PS4/5 version, is that true and is he unlockable on pc or am I just fricked here. I only played 2 Canadian Shekels for it no big loss
Just as a general reminder of characters that were in production but never saw the light of day: >Ant-Man >Wasp >She-Hulk >War Machine >Doctor Strange >Scarlet Witch >Captain Marvel >Captain Mar'Vell >Quake >Mockingbird >Vision
Winter Soldier BARELY got in, and just like Jane Thor he was an insulting bare bones character with reused assets. The comic cutscenes were not cute, but cheap
Avengers failed for a laundry list of reasons, and it's the perfect example of a failed comic game, not to mention a poster boy for why GAAS games don't work. Simply put, do one thing well instead of doing 6 things okay. The funny thing is though you can tell people on the team did give a damn, but somewhere along the line higher ups forced the game gutted for live service greed. Characters control well, but that only goes so far. The core loop is flawed and boring.
Insomniac Spider-Man worked because the devs >Cared about the character >Asked themselves what fans wanted to experience being the hero >Knew the character's strengths and what the material allowed them to do.
And look how that turned out, it was a wide success. Insomniac was even based enough to give out free skins too. How rare is that? I can only hope Spider-Man 2 and eventually Wolverine are as good.
Iron Man (Motive Studios) and Black Panther (Cliffhanger Games) are getting games eventually, but time will only tell where they fall on the quality scale
>only playable waifus were Mid Widow, Dunecoonmala, and Hawkeye's daughter
This shit belongs in the trash, I'd rather play one of the fricking mobile games that has 80 playable characters and 35 of them are hot girls with 4 alternate costumes a piece bare minimum.
Just as a general reminder of characters that were in production but never saw the light of day: >Ant-Man >Wasp >She-Hulk >War Machine >Doctor Strange >Scarlet Witch >Captain Marvel >Captain Mar'Vell >Quake >Mockingbird >Vision

i'd have bought the game just for She-Hulk if she'd been attractive, muscular within reason, and had visible abs in at least one of her alt costumes. Scarlet Witch and Ms. Marvel would've been awesome additions too. Wanda had by far one of the hottest character models in that Midnight Sun's game i haven't played. her and that evil not-Lilith girl need Blender smut stat.
i wish Jen's kit in MVC3 wasn't such dogshit. her inclusion was such a monkey paw for me. she's in the game but she plays like hot ass, thanks 8ing. ;-;
at least Palette Swap made Betty a fricking savage with an ORAORAORAORAORA punches Super.

almost everything went wrong, but i think they were fricked from the jump since Square Enix of all studios hired Crystal Dynamics of all devs to try to make a fun superhero ARPG. none of those things sound good.
a quick look at the Square Enix Crystal Dynamics Spider-Man gameplay vs the Insomniac Spider-Man gameplay sums it all up pretty neatly.
Didn't ask.
You didn't, but the haterade spirit did
Dr. McCoy next actually said that in any of the episodes
He did say it once or twice. Not often though.
So, what went wrong?
Everything
>don't get the actual actors for your game for mcubabbies
Or simply don't make them look like npcs you find in the BG.
>live service shit for a story-based beat em up
>shit gameplay
>characters looked like bargain bin MCU toys
Kamala a cute though, and don't let these homosexuals tell you otherwise
>_8
Please post more, or dump all somewhere.
>Kamala a cute
Did we ever get a decent Blender model?
NO, AND IT PISSES ME OFF!
I don't understand why everyone says the models look bad. They look perfectly fine. I would even go far to call it good.
Only MODOK was what the MCU wasn't
Same energy.
Pretty much

They built the microtransaction system first, then the game around it

the shitty ubisoft games made money spider-man is a money maker
Spider-Man wasn't trying to be the movies though. That's partly why that one was successful. Square Enix didn't have any original ideas for this Avengers game

>the people eats this shit in cinema will totally buy the game!
Not enough 2silgbtq++ representation, basically unplayable
No X-Men, who cares
It's called the Avengers. Not the X-Men. It's the self-descriptive literal name of the game.
and yet the main character is not an avenger
Cute Kamala model is the only thing i would miss from this game. It was one single chance for a bunch of 3d porn with her and they blew it.
marvel is fricking BORING
still remember morons and shills here saying this was the second coming of Christ
same for every bamco kusoge based on anime
some homies will never learn
Thanks, Thanos!

It is
Each time I consider maybe buying it because its so cheap I see Kamala Khan's big stupid ugly face and move on. I still cant handle such a lame boring character being pushed so hard.
I bought the game for $4 before getting delisted, is the camps worth it?
Maybe just to do the story stuff
The story is the absolute worst part of the game.
The idea of eternal franchises is hubris. you have to end, and maybe after 5 years, even think about restarting again.
They didn't make 45 Pokemon movies and shove them in people's faces 24/7 for a decade and a half nonstop
Team Fortress 2
But how else will I get my muslim Ms Marvel fix?
I, dare say, the most compelling character of recent times
sir please I am telling you do not redeem
So why did this fail exactly? Children and manchildren have no standards when it comes to capeshit, so why did this not sell like hot cakes?
Because it just isn't fun.
Capeshit is like fast food. Live service stuff requires a longer commitment, which is why their shows are failing too.
Because your first assumption is wrong because if it was right then it wouldn't have failed.
Good game, still gonna play it.
Squenix can try again with Foam Stars
When I was a kid I loved superhero comics, films, and games. Then around my mid 20's a switch turned off in my brain, now I can't stand the stuff.
I own it on PC but I heard Spiderman got put into the PS4/5 version, is that true and is he unlockable on pc or am I just fricked here. I only played 2 Canadian Shekels for it no big loss
Excellent. The more games fail, the more likely it is for women to get fired so men can save vidya

lol
kek I just saw this on steam for $4 the other day, if I bought it then would I already not be able to play it?
Is anyone else sad that they'll never ever get to experience this game the way it was intended?
Was there a successful AAA Disney Marvel game? It's like these homies can't license a game to save their ass.
Kingdom Hearts
Last chance to grab those keys before they're gone!

Spider-Gwen is a shit non character
doesn't matter, the point is Square's Avengers was a sausage fest.
Silk's also available in FF, yet another reason that game has a better roster.
