Isn't escapism based on fear by definition? Your soul is never truly at ease. I still remember back in my student days when I used to play Dota 2 to procrastinate on studying , it was fun but I was never truly at peace . I think you guys feel similar but just don't want to acknowledge it as much.

how do you cope with the finite time you have? Some people cope with it by being hyperproductive, others try to carve themselves into the memories of the people surrounding them, one way or the other, others simply try to maximize the pleasure they get out of living

I was able to NEET for a while and indulge in pure escapism years ago and honestly after working full time for many years I'd kill to go back. I wish I didn't need to eat so I could work less.
Same. Full time work makes me feel like my life is over already. What do I have to look forward to? 30 years of mindless drudgery and then MAYBE I'll get to retire when my body is well on its way to fall apart? If I even make it that far? Whether I die now or suffer through those next 30 years and die then, what's the difference? Who wouldn't want to escape from this by any means necessary?
Well unlike previous generations we potentially have life extending technology within our reach. That's what I'm hopeful for at least.
