The enemy distribution doesn't change at any point in any of the dungeons across the entire zone. Act 1 in D2 had more variation of enemy packs between the fricking Bloody Moor and Cold Plains.
Did you play through the whole act? There were multiple times when I got swarmed by huge crowds, this idea that it’s 5-6 enemies all game comes off as secondhand b***hing from people that didn’t even play it
I am 21 atm and I can think of only a few instances with larger swarms. The boss room summoning events like the undead totems or whatever, which are still limited to a set number per wave, the spiderlings if the standard pack I closes some fatties and the world events like those escort missions. I assume the world events are like that because they scale to people near by even if they didn't participate, I wish the dungeons and overworld in general was more like that. The pattern I described still dominates the majority of the enemy distribution, it's so inorganically formulaic it sucks the life out of locations.
Is that end of Act 1 boss the actual end of Act 1 boss or is it just a beta placeholder? I thought I was maybe 1/3rd through the act by the time I finished it and was certain that was like a halfway point boss, WTF?

In what way? Endgame D3 is boring as frick. Getting your build 90% perfect takes about a week (which admittedly can be a lot of fun) but after that, the last 10% is an insanely repetitive and boring grind, especially compared with D2 and its modded derivatives.
In D2 the grind is enjoyable because you will constantly be finding things that can slowly get you closer to your goal. In D3, however, there is no trading, and so your only option is to grind endlessly through piles and piles of trash.

Are you dumb? The goal is to acquire gear— trading just happens to be one of the ways to do that. I can appreciate why people would enjoy trying to reach higher and higher Greater Rifts; PD2 does something similar with maps. But for me, the best part of the games have always been gearing my character up and seeing builds in action. That’s extremely satisfying. Once that’s done, the replay value falls off hard and I start to feel burnt out and extremely aware of what a massive waste of time it is.
Asmongold already said that the game is good. The average human being doesn't care that it's a shitty superficial looter clicker. People play it because it's content and they need something to fill their empty meaningless, worthless lives.
Nah, it's a great balance. Casual players can play on low difficulties, equip gear with bigger number, and feel good. The minmaxers will have fun finding their perfect bases, rolling modifiers, imprinting the ability they want, and socketing via world boss drop mats. Even in this beta I found my sorc passing on higher level drops because even though the armor or attack was better, it didn't have the CD and +Lightning Damage rolls my old gear had.
Also, it's hard to see the depth from this beta because so many systems are still locked/hidden. Will it have as much depth as PoE? No, but 1. Why would you want that tedious bloat of RNG layers? and 2. It's a new game. You start with a good foundation and build more complexity as the seasons pass.

The +50 you found on your armor does not matter, it won't make a difference in your game. The only things that matter are the """legendary""" ability enhancements because they actually enhance your ability aka game.

We went from smart games where you would genuinely see a huge impact if you misspent a few points on int on your strength based character in Baldurs Gate 2 to something like D3 and D4 that put +1000 strength on your character and you barely feel a difference and you get +500% damage on some item you farm out in an hour anyway.

The devs hired a bunch more people to help, and just released a pretty big update that included multiplayer. It's surprisingly in a good place right now and a lot of fun to play. If you're hating the D4 beta you will probably enjoy LE.
Respeccing on the fly for literal like 10 gold completely kills the Diablo vibe. There’s no weight or thought to any of the choices you make, you can literally start a dungeon as a frost sorcerer and be a fire sorcerer by the end. Wtf is the point of that? Why even have skill trees at all? Just let everything unlock like D3 at that point and pick what you want when you want it without any “skill points,” why even pretend like you’re giving people a choice?

There is no story in Diablo. There's worldbuilding and some lore, but there's never been any story beyond "Oh no Hell is invading our world" and "Oh no it's happening again for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th time...."

Nope, just produced music with friends, homosexual. You start with words and a theme or idea and make fricking music to it. Beats are taylored to the Black folk flow not other way around. Also, there is very little variety between rappers "flow" in terms of time signatures hence why you can copy paste every rappers lyrics on any beat with a subtle tempo change.

I played the necro during the end game beta and it was boring as frick. The summons are just a passive thing that compliments your main skills. Don't expect to be a summonancer like in D2.

I keep seeing people claim D4 is an improved D3 but I feel like everyone is coping really hard/still caught up in the hype. When I played the end game beta, it felt like Diablo 3 but slower, more boring, and with forced MMO elements. It was terrible and I was bored to death immediately. No other Diablo game bored me to that extent not even after neckbearding Diablo 2 killing trav over and over for two weeks straight. Caught a stream an nothing has really changed at all. At least the robot voices are gone.
I get the feeling that once the game releases and the appeal wears off, people are going to turn against it within a month like they did with D:I.

Rogue gets specializations, I haven't tried Sorcerer yet. You have to do a class quest to unlock it for Rogue.
What does druid get?
Something about communing with nature spirits to get buffs or something, I don't think much of it has been shown yet.
That's how it works for all classes. For Sorc you do a quest and get a system where you can assign a spell as a passive, like casting a Blizzard automatically.
Rogue gets to choose whether they want to use Combo Points, a little gauge that fills and grants infinite energy for 3 seconds, and a third I didnt get
the entire point is it shows who is developing the game

Yeah Fenrir (internal name for this game) was originally a Souls clone but after Immortal got backlash for not being D4 they reworked it into a regular isometric game. You can honestly kind of feel a bit of it in the way encounters/enemies (esp bosses) are designed and how they made movement and attacking/using skills flow into each other

yeah that's the main thing i notice about D4. they somehow dropped d3's only strength and replaced it with nothing. low contrast brownscape with forced multiplayer and a battle pass.
It's shit. It involves grinding nightmare dungeons. They have affixes like PoE maps, but they're those same god awful dungeons with the same horrible layouts that a lot of people are already regarding as the worst part of the beta.

D3 (once they got rid of the stupid auction house shit early on and started implementing Adventure mode and Seasons for replay, along with Torment levels and the like) seemed pretty damn good if you weren't harping on the fact that it wasn't a nearly black screen or whatever the frick. Look I played D2 originally, I played Ultima fricking Online so I can appreciate that aesthetic but whining about D3 on such things seems silly at best because it was not a 100% clone of D2 and had a few QoL improvements and new content. I am 100% sure that this game will be great in time, but it will likely have a rocky start, just like D3 did.

Okay, that seems reasonable. I played D3 mostly for the story and then co-oped some Adventure mode stuff for the fucn of it, but didn'tr spend ages upon ages grinding or whatnot, but it seemed it had a decent amount of content though maybe I didn't play enough to get bored because I wasn't grindlooping to get a particular set or whatever by running nothing but GRs frequently. D4 seems to have additional content that could be neat, like the "world bosses" of sorts where one seems to be even present in the event.

My serious concern is monetization. The BattlePass shit makes me wary, but considering they had Seasons in D3, its possible D4 could do it right. THe main concern there is of course how much time and what is required to fully get all the content from a given Season Pass "Premium", how much of it is exclusive to the pay version if any (or if it is only a matter of a booster), and perhaps most importantly what happens if you either miss a given season or don't 100% a pass. Ideally, all its content including cosmetics should go into the standard drop rotation for some kinds of content so it can show up on stores, drop from play etc...but I'm afraid they'll simply FOMO it entirely or require purchases a la carte or something
Atop that what I consider disqualifying is pay exclusive cosmetics/item mall style and/or any gacha nonsense. They havea fricking Season pass system so its not like they are missing repeat income; , people will buy premium boosters if they have fun, but do not fricking lock shit behind an item mall exclusively. OOR, but attempts at this gets BTFO'd the way D3 Auction House did.

The premium battle pass is 100% cosmetics and nothing else. The free version of the battle pass is given to everyone, and that's the one that has actual ingame content and things to grind for. It's going to be like the seasonal journey in D3.

Premium battle pass skins will go on a rotation in the cash shop. So if you miss something from a premium battle pass, you can just outright purchase it at a later date, maybe like 6 months later or some shit.

Well the red flag of it being modern blizzard is more than enough, especially with the multiple shitshows they've done in the last 3 years or so. As for the game itself, like you said a Battlepass in beta, for a game thats not F2P. Thats already massive red flags as is.

Last Epoch's endgame is mindnumbingly boring. It's even worse than greater rifts in Diablo 3, somehow. The rest of the game is pretty good, but as soon as you reach endgame there's just no reason to play anymore because it's so boring and tedious.

See what made the low drop rates and the grinding actually fun and good game design is that the good drops actually made it gratifying to receive and if the distribution of players, and therefore how much good loot they had, were a normal distribution, then we would also have many players near the middle vying to farm for those items creating a good population of people with which you could play with and meet creating a socialization aspect, ESPECIALLY in a lobby system that was blizz.net at the time unlike this open world instance they are doing now.

Blizzard are the masters of creating combat that feels 10/10 because it's fluid, responsive, animations are great, sounds are great, VFX are great, etc. that's why D3 just feels so good to play, even if a lot of the other aspects of the game are ass.
It's the same reason why WoW still reigns supreme after 20 years, because it has the best combat and best overall polish where everything just feels 10/10 and nothing in the last 20 years has offered something better, aside from BDO's combat.

Well the other elements are complete trash compared to it so you know. Ice lets you tank more but is slow to kill so whats the point, fire is both slow to kill without the tanking element.
It won't get any better in that regard I'm sorry to say. I enjoyed it for being more like a twin stick shooter with the arpg level/skils/item progression. It is very grindy though, once you've done the main storyline you're just doing individual maps over and over.

D1 is great, but it's very old in every way possible, and it's not really as much of a "play for hundreds of hours to hunt for gear and upgrades" as other ARPGs. It's more of a single player atmospheric thing that you play through in 10-20 hours.
It's good but distinctly different from what the games became after it. Also a lot of aspects of it are frustratingly dated. Walking everywhere fricking sucks but is important to the gameplay which breaks when you can run, and the entire design with that is just tedious in a way that you'll know if you're interested in or not. Also a lot of the other gameplay elements like character building are actually just pretty shit. It just has a really good atmosphere ultimately.

The shareware demo also introduced me to the franchise. Ended up finding a 3 disc set at Walmart in the small CD-ROM section for cheap.
The Traitor Soul was disc 3 and is basically the fully expanded version of it all. So unless you care about the story (don't) of the other 2 just play this one.

All this beta did is made me appreciate Last Epoch more. I don't actively play it and probably won't until 1.0, but I come back to try a new build every few months and I'm always impressed with it for an indie game. Every D4 class archetype is realized better in Last Epoch except for Barbarian and that's fine because melee feels fricking terrible in D4 right now.

The enemy distribution doesn't change at any point in any of the dungeons across the entire zone. Act 1 in D2 had more variation of enemy packs between the fricking Bloody Moor and Cold Plains.
Did you play through the whole act? There were multiple times when I got swarmed by huge crowds, this idea that it’s 5-6 enemies all game comes off as secondhand b***hing from people that didn’t even play it

I am 21 atm and I can think of only a few instances with larger swarms. The boss room summoning events like the undead totems or whatever, which are still limited to a set number per wave, the spiderlings if the standard pack I closes some fatties and the world events like those escort missions. I assume the world events are like that because they scale to people near by even if they didn't participate, I wish the dungeons and overworld in general was more like that. The pattern I described still dominates the majority of the enemy distribution, it's so inorganically formulaic it sucks the life out of locations.

In what way? Endgame D3 is boring as frick. Getting your build 90% perfect takes about a week (which admittedly can be a lot of fun) but after that, the last 10% is an insanely repetitive and boring grind, especially compared with D2 and its modded derivatives.

I can appreciate why people would enjoy trying to reach higher and higher Greater Rifts; PD2 does something similar with maps. But for me, the best part of the games have always been gearing my character up and seeing builds in action. That’s extremely satisfying. Once that’s done, the replay value falls off hard and I start to feel burnt out and extremely aware of what a massive waste of time it is.
Asmongold already said that the game is good. The average human being doesn't care that it's a shitty superficial looter clicker. People play it because it's content and they need something to fill their empty meaningless, worthless lives.
Nah, it's a great balance. Casual players can play on low difficulties, equip gear with bigger number, and feel good. The minmaxers will have fun finding their perfect bases, rolling modifiers, imprinting the ability they want, and socketing via world boss drop mats. Even in this beta I found my sorc passing on higher level drops because even though the armor or attack was better, it didn't have the CD and +Lightning Damage rolls my old gear had.
Also, it's hard to see the depth from this beta because so many systems are still locked/hidden. Will it have as much depth as PoE? No, but 1. Why would you want that tedious bloat of RNG layers? and 2. It's a new game. You start with a good foundation and build more complexity as the seasons pass.

The devs hired a bunch more people to help, and just released a pretty big update that included multiplayer. It's surprisingly in a good place right now and a lot of fun to play. If you're hating the D4 beta you will probably enjoy LE.

Respeccing on the fly for literal like 10 gold completely kills the Diablo vibe. There’s no weight or thought to any of the choices you make, you can literally start a dungeon as a frost sorcerer and be a fire sorcerer by the end. Wtf is the point of that? Why even have skill trees at all? Just let everything unlock like D3 at that point and pick what you want when you want it without any “skill points,” why even pretend like you’re giving people a choice?

How do you guys feel about the MedianXL mod for D2? I've never heard what others think about it. I personally love the many ways you can itemize outside of just <1% droprate RNG. I could see some people hating the tiered unique system, because it just invalidates everything in the early game, but it's fun to just stomp in the early game till you get to hell difficulty.

When I played the end game beta, it felt like Diablo 3 but slower, more boring, and with forced MMO elements. It was terrible and I was bored to death immediately. No other Diablo game bored me to that extent not even after neckbearding Diablo 2 killing trav over and over for two weeks straight. Caught a stream an nothing has really changed at all. At least the robot voices are gone.

Rogue gets specializations, I haven't tried Sorcerer yet. You have to do a class quest to unlock it for Rogue.
Something about communing with nature spirits to get buffs or something, I don't think much of it has been shown yet.
That's how it works for all classes. For Sorc you do a quest and get a system where you can assign a spell as a passive, like casting a Blizzard automatically.
Barb doesn't have to do the quest cause the quest is in an unreachable area so it's just given automatically in the beta it seems.

You get some more ways to generate resource later on, but obviously they want you to use a builder.
They even nerfed a node from the closed beta that let Sorc generate mana when hitting burning enemies which enabled a build that could just use incinerate and hydra by changing it to "increase mana regeneration" rather than just giving you mana. It's like they want the game to be shit.

unironically yes, but ideally it would have a deep and complex item and skill system that allowed for varied and creative methods of mitigating or trivializing mana costs altogether in the late game. forcing you to basically stutter-step/kite auto-attack or simply drag your feet and wait for several seconds for no damage just to be able to recharge mp to cast your skills, most of which are on cooldowns anyway, is extremely forced gameplay with no player agency.

It's shit. It involves grinding nightmare dungeons. They have affixes like PoE maps, but they're those same god awful dungeons with the same horrible layouts that a lot of people are already regarding as the worst part of the beta.

D3 (once they got rid of the stupid auction house shit early on and started implementing Adventure mode and Seasons for replay, along with Torment levels and the like) seemed pretty damn good if you weren't harping on the fact that it wasn't a nearly black screen or whatever the frick. Look I played D2 originally, I played Ultima fricking Online so I can appreciate that aesthetic but whining about D3 on such things seems silly at best because it was not a 100% clone of D2 and had a few QoL improvements and new content. I've not played D3 for years but I dropped right back in with the D4 beta around the corner and didn't have to pay a single fricking cent, plus all my unlocks were already there (unlocks from playing the fricking game for the most part, or like deluxe editions of other Blizz games over the years)

Okay, that seems reasonable. I played D3 mostly for the story and then co-oped some Adventure mode stuff for the fucn of it, but didn'tr spend ages upon ages grinding or whatnot, but it seemed it had a decent amount of content though maybe I didn't play enough to get bored because I wasn't grindlooping to get a particular set or whatever by running nothing but GRs frequently. D4 seems to have additional content that could be neat, like the "world bosses" of sorts where one seems to be even present in the event.

My serious concern is monetization. The BattlePass shit makes me wary, but considering they had Seasons in D3, its possible D4 could do it right. THe main concern there is of course how much time and what is required to fully get all the content from a given Season Pass "Premium", how much of it is exclusive to the pay version if any (or if it is only a matter of a booster), and perhaps most importantly what happens if you either miss a given season or don't 100% a pass. Ideally, all its content including cosmetics should go into the standard drop rotation for some kinds of content so it can show up on stores, drop from play etc...but I'm afraid they'll simply FOMO it entirely or require purchases a la carte or something
Atop that what I consider disqualifying is pay exclusive cosmetics/item mall style and/or any gacha nonsense. They havea fricking Season pass system so its not like they are missing repeat income; , people will buy premium boosters if they have fun, but do not fricking lock shit behind an item mall exclusively. OOR, but attempts at this gets BTFO'd the way D3 Auction House did.

The premium battle pass is 100% cosmetics and nothing else. The free version of the battle pass is given to everyone, and that's the one that has actual ingame content and things to grind for. It's going to be like the seasonal journey in D3.

Well the red flag of it being modern blizzard is more than enough, especially with the multiple shitshows they've done in the last 3 years or so. As for the game itself, like you said a Battlepass in beta, for a game thats not F2P. Thats already massive red flags as is.
From a gameplay perspective, its well known the itemization is dogshit, but also the game is just slower than it should be. Feels like the game is moving at 90% speed or something. Its only at lvl 25 so its still too early to tell, but still red flags.

It's better than D3 for sure, simply because there's 10x the content to do and you're not just spamming GRs. The main complaints that people have where it's worse than D3 at the moment is build diversity, but that is because we're only playing at level 25, so we're missing uniques(better than legendaries and with unique affixes) + ancestral items + paragon board.
I am 100% sure that this game will be great in time, but it will likely have a rocky start, just like D3 did.

D2R is a fricking amazing remaster. It's almost a 1:1 remake, but with better graphics and much-needed QoL things. I would argue that it's the best ARPG ever made. It's definitely worth playing if you haven't.

Well the other elements are complete trash compared to it so you know. Ice lets you tank more but is slow to kill so whats the point, fire is both slow to kill without the tanking element.
I do like the scifi setting, but god damn is the map design boring the shit out of me.
It won't get any better in that regard I'm sorry to say. I enjoyed it for being more like a twin stick shooter with the arpg level/skils/item progression. It is very grindy though, once you've done the main storyline you're just doing individual maps over and over.

D1 is great, but it's very old in every way possible, and it's not really as much of a "play for hundreds of hours to hunt for gear and upgrades" as other ARPGs. It's more of a single player atmospheric thing that you play through in 10-20 hours.
It's good but distinctly different from what the games became after it. Also a lot of aspects of it are frustratingly dated. Walking everywhere fricking sucks but is important to the gameplay which breaks when you can run, and the entire design with that is just tedious in a way that you'll know if you're interested in or not. Also a lot of the other gameplay elements like character building are actually just pretty shit. It just has a really good atmosphere ultimately.

Man, I remember having the demo for this as a kid but never playing the full game despite wanting to. I also remember it seeming really cool. Forgot literally everything else about it since I must have been, like, 10 or 11.
The shareware demo also introduced me to the franchise. Ended up finding a 3 disc set at Walmart in the small CD-ROM section for cheap.
The Traitor Soul was disc 3 and is basically the fully expanded version of it all. So unless you care about the story (don't) of the other 2 just play this one.

All this beta did is made me appreciate Last Epoch more. I don't actively play it and probably won't until 1.0, but I come back to try a new build every few months and I'm always impressed with it for an indie game. Every D4 class archetype is realized better in Last Epoch except for Barbarian and that's fine because melee feels fricking terrible in D4 right now.
