Call of Duty is only still relevant because it surrendered to the battle royal crowd. Halo didn't really change anything except that they switched to a developer team thats way worse while also being unable to deliver content on time. Even if 343 wasn't a dogshit studio - without change/pandering to current trends Halo would have fallen off anyway.
So just ask yourself. Would you rather Halo be Halo or should have Halo killed its own identity like CoD did just so the name Halo keeps its high engagement numbers.

They destroyed Halo's identity for 2 games trying to copy CoD's gameplay. The system designers flat out admitted that they wanted to follow market trends with Halo, and that's why the ADS and advanced movement was introduced. I’m not going to jump down your throat over not being harsh enough on Halo 4’s but all I can say is if you put Halo 4’s narrative under any scrutiny it falls apart extremely quickly.
you’re totally right, but 3 gets by with the momentum / cut content from 2 and only truely suffers in being less ambitious than Halo 2. 2 was meant to wrap things up entirely so when it lost it’s final few missions and moved The Ark off Earth as a result Halo 3 then just became Halo 2’s final 3-4 missions made into 9 missions instead, all this compounded with Joe Staten not being the lead on 3 instead working on Chronicles. Point being, Halo 3 has explanations for it’s shortcomings, it’s biggest sins is being an uneven script, and the game is well produced/executed and fun enough to smooth over most of those issues. Halo 4 by contrast it’s story just completely falls apart if you push back on it even slightly, I’m not going to get into it all because I got somewhere to be but right off the bat you have >forerunners are no longer humans, and also the lore of forerunners / Didact’s faction hating humans which devalues and misunderstandings the entire original trilogy.

When I finished 3 as a teenager I was sad seeing Chief and Cortana lost in space. They fought hard and deserved to be with their friends. Little did I know that was a more merciful fate for both of them.
the multiplayer modes in halo games werent even that great, to be brutally honest; playing them with mouse+keyboard really shows how much the game breaks down if you are actually able to aim well (esp halo 2 and the eldewrito version of 3 which only had hitscan). I still really love the campaigns on the first 3 games, though. And yes I did have Xbox Live and shit, it really was overrated and overpriced again to be brutally honest. Was nice that people were actually social on there, though, and even if they were fricking with you that's still better than everyone being in Discord passive-aggressively talking about you behind your back, not having the balls to actually speak publically to you. Glad Xbox Live players had balls.
I think Halo 3's multiplayer could be great, especially on PC, if they stopped giving controller players an aimbot and then reworked the damage on some of the weapons. But they'll never do that though

It was pure kino. There's nothing like getting in your first 16 player match after xbox live just launched as a teen/kid. Halo multiplayer did a lot of really moronic things, like map packs that split the playerbase, but it still really was the peak of the era for multiplayer. Battlefield was good too, but missed the charm.
It was a golden era for gamers. I can't believe I had the privilege to spend so many hours playing Halo 3 and Modern Warfare online with my close friends and strangers.

Skybox Labs make Forge for 343 games, definitely for Halo 5/Infinite, maybe with H2A/MCC forge, I’m fairly sure 343 did 4’s forge themselves which is why it sucked.
In fact when you really go through the credits of 343s releases I have no fricking idea what 343 even do besides the campaigns for 4/5/Infinite AND EVEN THEN Saber Interactive assists very frequently. Saber did H1/2Anni campaigns, Certain Affinity did 343’s Map Packs for Reach, are credited as co-developers or the multiplayer leads on all 343 projects and are currently in charge of the Battle Royale project. Splash Damage even has some credits. So 343 seem to be primarily focused on the singleplayer portions and “””organise””” everyone else, but the singleplayer is consistently the worst part of all their projects.
Kinda makes me think that gaming is going to go back to the WADs/retro and whatever is easy to share. Economy is just getting worse and AAA is just getting even greedier. It's only a matter of time before the new generation realizes it's bullshit and decides that it's cooler to play old games.

Will there ever be a game as epic as fricking Halo 3? The music, the herculean story. Yeah, it wasn't revolutionizing, but it was perfectly executed. Something that japs will never ever achieve. I dare you motherfrickers, give me a game with a story and soundtrack as goosebumping as this.
Gears of War 1, 2 and 3 were amazing in the scope of the story. Loss was heartfelt, there was no hope yet you kept fighting. But Halo really felt like you were saving the universe. I know you guys always talk about how "shitty" halo's gunplay was but I disagree. Yeah, you come from COD and it was better but it was also a different genre altogether, more focused on precision, speed and variety but with a much more contained story and landscapes.

I just want you guys to know that this is what Diversity, Inclusivity, Millennials and a women CEO amounted to. They literally tanked an entire IP into the ground because they refused to accept that they didn't know a thing about Halo.
The people who feel Halo 3 is dead and buried are a particularly strange mix that can only be described as the hypersocial socially inept. The kind of people who get their dick in a twist about how they can't enjoy matchmaking if people aren't talking/shittalking every match, but similarly can't talk themselves to kick things off. Not to mention the simple ones that can't enjoy something unless it's super popular, so the game not being constantly filled with tens of thousands of morons really hurts their ability to enjoy a 4v4 match
Not to say the current iteration doesn't have flaws, but it's been great for the people that actually wanna keep playing the game. I love being able to hop onto some custom games, or queue with my buddies, and don't forget all the fukken mods.
All those hours of custom games, matchmaking, fricking around in forge.... calling squeakers Black folk in big team battle..... will be lost in time... like tears in rain...
It blows my mind that halo 2 was fully remade just for MCC and its the most broken piece of shit in the whole collection. What's even more strange than halo 2's state is how good they did on the Reach port.
When you look at the best Halos, the bread and butter has always been the multiplayer experience. The story is good enough but I don't think it was designed to be the sole focus like what you experienced in Half-Life. Every Halo release me and my buddies would play through the campaign and then jump straight into multiplayer. In my mind this served as a springboard for us into the Halo universe, providing some interesting context to make the whole multiplayer experience just a bit more engaging and I think it did a good job.
If you don't appreciate a well designed ai roster in games then halo may not appeal to you. also don't forget to play on heroic at least because lower difficulties intentionally gimp their tactics.

They destroyed Halo's identity for 2 games trying to copy CoD's gameplay. The system designers flat out admitted that they wanted to follow market trends with Halo, and that's why the ADS and advanced movement was introduced. you’re totally right, but 3 gets by with the momentum / cut content from 2 and only truely suffers in being less ambitious than Halo 2. 2 was meant to wrap things up entirely so when it lost it’s final few missions and moved The Ark off Earth as a result Halo 3 then just became Halo 2’s final 3-4 missions made into 9 missions instead, all this compounded with Joe Staten not being the lead on 3 instead working on Chronicles. Point being, Halo 3 has explanations for it’s shortcomings, it’s biggest sins is being an uneven script, and the game is well produced/executed and fun enough to smooth over most of those issues. Halo 4 by contrast it’s story just completely falls apart if you push back on it even slightly, I’m not going to get into it all because I got somewhere to be but right off the bat you have

When I finished 3 as a teenager I was sad seeing Chief and Cortana lost in space. They fought hard and deserved to be with their friends. Little did I know that was a more merciful fate for both of them.
the multiplayer modes in halo games werent even that great, to be brutally honest; playing them with mouse+keyboard really shows how much the game breaks down if you are actually able to aim well (esp halo 2 and the eldewrito version of 3 which only had hitscan). I still really love the campaigns on the first 3 games, though. And yes I did have Xbox Live and shit, it really was overrated and overpriced again to be brutally honest. Was nice that people were actually social on there, though, and even if they were fricking with you that's still better than everyone being in Discord passive-aggressively talking about you behind your back, not having the balls to actually speak publically to you. Glad Xbox Live players had balls.

It was pure kino. There's nothing like getting in your first 16 player match after xbox live just launched as a teen/kid. Battlefield was good too, but missed the charm.

Skybox Labs make Forge for 343 games, definitely for Halo 5/Infinite, maybe with H2A/MCC forge, I’m fairly sure 343 did 4’s forge themselves which is why it sucked.
In fact when you really go through the credits of 343s releases I have no fricking idea what 343 even do besides the campaigns for 4/5/Infinite AND EVEN THEN Saber Interactive assists very frequently. Saber did H1/2Anni campaigns, Certain Affinity did 343’s Map Packs for Reach, are credited as co-developers or the multiplayer leads on all 343 projects and are currently in charge of the Battle Royale project. Splash Damage even has some credits. So 343 seem to be primarily focused on the singleplayer portions and “””organise””” everyone else, but the singleplayer is consistently the worst part of all their projects.

Gears of War 1, 2 and 3 were amazing in the scope of the story. Loss was heartfelt, there was no hope yet you kept fighting. But Halo really felt like you were saving the universe. Yeah, you come from COD and it was better but it was also a different genre altogether, more focused on precision, speed and variety but with a much more contained story and landscapes.

Not to mention the simple ones that can't enjoy something unless it's super popular, so the game not being constantly filled with tens of thousands of morons really hurts their ability to enjoy a 4v4 match

When you look at the best Halos, the bread and butter has always been the multiplayer experience. The story is good enough but I don't think it was designed to be the sole focus like what you experienced in Half-Life. Every Halo release me and my buddies would play through the campaign and then jump straight into multiplayer. In my mind this served as a springboard for us into the Halo universe, providing some interesting context to make the whole multiplayer experience just a bit more engaging and I think it did a good job.
If you don't appreciate a well designed ai roster in games then halo may not appeal to you. also don't forget to play on heroic at least because lower difficulties intentionally gimp their tactics.

I just don't give a fricking shit anymore. I am so burnt out on this shitty industry. It will never ever be the same again anyways. My friends all moved on. The ones who still play games it wouldn't be the same like before anyways due to them having jobs and playing other games. So even if I went lone wolves what would be the point? The people playing games are just buttholes who prefer to not chat. Shit talking isn't even allowed anymore.
They can remaster H3 or make my dream Halo game. I wouldn't care anymore. They sucked and fricked it too long. I'd rather the series just die at this point.
I liked halo infinite campaign
it was closer to halo 3 than halo 4 and 5 will ever be, but it was too short, the alien lady was boring and we don't know anything about her or the flying little aliens she goes with.
Also, only 1 biome

343 is the worst video game studio maybe ever. No other studio has been given so many chances with a huge Ip just to frick it up every single time. They took one of the most recognizable American video game characters, xbox's mascot, and reduced him to this.
