still have to get through that September drudgery
wake me up when September ends
> its almost Halloween
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH
2 months is "almost"?, that's 1/6 a year Anon.
When pc release, konami doesn't want money?
Do you guys not have phones?
Didn't Sony get exclusive rights because of Requiem or something?

dhampir swagger
It's the dicks he took up the ass that makes him walk like that.
why is his face brown?
To stand apart from his hair
Especially considering cv faces are featureless and look better for it
He's just skiing with invisible skis, you dolt.
>on my way to be fricked in the ass!
I never played LoI, I guess this is the year.
I really enjoyed it. It's kinda like Mega Man in the sense that you can choose where to proceed next.
The way your first spell creates a trail behind you that causes damage to enemies who walk into it is really cool
Sounds like a good time, I'll play it on Halloween.
Time for your yearly period?
for gay buttsex?
already?
yup now bend over
I'm going to play through both collections on steam in October
Should I play Aria of Sorrow or Metroid Fusion for Halloween?
Fusion is spookier, but aria is a better game, if I have to choose I'd go for Fusion because I haven't played it in years.
absolute kino
Who are Eric and John Belmont lol?
Eric Lecarde and John Morris. It is slightly false advertising but forgivable.
It'd be if they werent alive in the game
If wouldn't be if they were undead. I mean it could also be interpreted as if they were exhumed and resurrected.
Wow, I just downloaded Portrait of Ruin for another playthrough, went to Ganker, and saw this thread.
desmume or melonds?
Frick desmume, play on melon
is it just me or is the hilt askew at the top of the hand?
Alucard's weapons are probably all fricked after killing 10000 or so monsters with them.
and shoving the hilt up his ass
I mean there's a number of problems with the way the sword is depicted, but it's just because it's Kojima's style.
>One-handed weapon in game but the hilt is far too long for a one handed sword
>Belonged to his mother from the 15th century but the blade is so long and narrow it resembles a mid-to-late 16th century sidesword or even a rapier
>If it were a rapier that'd explain the tiny pommel but without a complex guard it still wouldn't counterbalance properly
Overall it could be a very loose interpretation of an Oakshott Type 19 but it's just that Kojima wasn't fussed about it making sense.
>some castlevania game
>luigi's mansion 3
>SMT 2
>Blood
>Hellknight
>Yume Nikki 3D
those are my halloween games for this year
for me, it's
>bloodborne
>alien: isolation
>FEAR
>slender: the arrival
>blair witch walking simulator
pretty solid barring the last two anon.
Alien isolation is the one game I'll never replay since it's literally to fricking scary and stressful but it's probably one of the most visually impressive and well optimised game's ever made.
Nice picks.
This Halloween im planning to do fatal frame 1&2, and the Evil Withing
Which metroid is good for Halloween? I've only played the snes game.
Metroid spooky mission
Thanks
What's the best one besides super metroid? I practically ignored that series in favor of castlevania.
Play Zero mission, Samus returns, Super, Fusion, and Dread if you want to play them chronologically. If you don't then play them by release date.
Well looks like I'm starting the series with zero mission in Halloween. Thanks.
Hope you like them anon.
The 2D Metroid games are all great
Dread.
2D Metroid have a sci-fi horror feel to them so all of them.
I got a bunch of horror themed games on a Halloween sale 2 years ago and didn't play any of them. But I'll definetly play Darkwood this time
How long is SMT Synchronicity? I want to play it from start to finish on Halloween but I've never played it before.
It is by the studio that did Luna nights and record of lodoss, should be super short, you could start and finish all those 3 games on a single day.
So around four hours a game?
Yeah, give or take.
I can only play one game that day, so I'm going with synchronicity.
Where did you get that b***h? Translated?
Sorry for the late reply, but I found it on the wikia on the external link. It even has an english patch. While I've never played the whole game I have played the start and the english patch seems to work fine.
https://megamitensei.fandom . com/wiki/Shin_Megami_Tensei:_Synchronicity_Prologue.
Nice, thanks. I think I started it a long time ago and dropped it because of the moonrunes. I'm sure I wouldn't be missing much without the story, but I may as well see what's up with it if it's possible.
Glad to help anon.
I don't want to replay Lords of Shadow, but I never 110% every level of every chapter and it's gnawing at me.
I'll probably replay Amnesia the Bunker and Kaerimichi again.
Atmospheric spooks, rather than just loud noises.
Is bloodstained: Ritual of the Night any good?
If you like the IGAvania games then yes. You should also try the Curse of the Moon games as well.
I like mostly those ones if I can frick around with a variety of weapons/spells
Oh then it's perfect for you.
It bothers me that Bloodstained gives katanas a bazillion skills but then other weapons get one or two at most
Is ok, 7/10 for me.
it's honestly not great, everything it does well is done better by one of the mainline castlevanias. there's a lot of minor annoyances and shitty design choices that pile up to make the game just not great.
>soul required for progression is locked behind killing a random ass enemy that's easily missed
>you get another soul from a boss not much later that serves the same exact purpose but better
It's better than all of the igavania's but people will pretend it isn't because it's graphics aren't as good and the music doesn't match the general quality of SotNs.
Curse of the Moon is a lot better
It's alright. Relies too heavily on ideas from CV rather than its own, art direction is pretty poor.
Desperately wish in an alternate universe we got a direct sequel to SotN
We would have as it was the 3D project Iga proposed back when Konami wanted a new entry but they went with Lords of Shadow instead. Bad timeline.
>Halloween means I get to play le spooky games because some youtuber does it for muh atmosphere!
How young are you that you can't get a feel for October by just smelling the air outside?
yeah i'm enjoying halloween because of some guy on youtube. have a nice day wojak homosexual
Do you watch Christmas movies in Summer?
Christmas in July motherfricker
israelite psyop
movies are not the same as games. Playing a game during a season doesn't change the enjoyment of it.
Technically, I do
I look like this and I will play le spoopy geimus in halloween night you like it or not
Jesus, you guys really are miserable huh.
Damn anon.... You should probably socialize irl if you think youtubers started this
i'm glad i don't know people like you irl
god shut the frick up anon, spooky chads get literally one month before Christmas is rammed up your butthole
so i recently got a 4k tv. can i somehow play this in 4k and it looks better or nah?
use retroarch and shaders like
you mean pseudo crt shit?
as oppose to raw pixels on a 4k screen?
What is the OP image from? This is someone's pfp on Sanctioned Suicide.
frick you are a moron
How insightful. You are useless homosexual, probably a troony too.
You have actual moron level iq, holy shit.
just beat portrait of ruin at 896% can't be arsed to 1000% it which would require doing a handful of the dumb quests, which is a shame as I've been working on getting map complete saves on all the gba and ds castlevanias on my flashcarts. On the bright side I started order of ecclesia which is by far the best igavania all around. I'm simultaneously playing through sotn on my pc
I got OoE day one and kinda just fizzled out on it. What about it draws you in? I think I may have actually gotten lost lol. That was the last IGAvania wasn't it?
It's a good balance of old and new, lots of people overlook simple mechanics like the glyph sleeve and unions and get filtered thinking they have to menu to change weapons, which the game does ask you constantly change glyphs for different enemy types, but makes it easy to do so. All the maps are fun to explore, it has the secret half the game doesn't unlock unless you do such and such but it's even better here than symphony of the night. You can kill bosses without getting hit and get medals for it, it's the coolest package of a castlevania game there ever was.
I'm saving my replay of SOTN for October.
SOTN on steam when
Fricking pleb.
Play it on PSX emu.
sotn has been playable for years, if anything there needs to be a proper way to play rondo, psp emulation doesn't work and while there's a wii ware version that does it's barebones and inferior to the collection on PS4.
>in b4 "pc engine emulation"
doesn't work and is a pain in the ass to setup for one single game
>psp emulation doesn't work
>in b4 "pc engine emulation"
>doesn't work and is a pain in the ass to setup for one single game
what the frick are you talking about
OoE sucked for me due to how the water movement was
Also a few of the bosses really seemed by by design like the crab, the centaur dude in the castle too
I didn't even find it hard. I found CotM way harder but it was my first game
Cotm is ridiculous inbalanced unless you abuse summons, everything scaling off str is also awful.
Magician, shooter and thief mode have some painful ass start.
I found it fairly basic in terms of difficulty outside of understanding that you sometimes need to run instead of just walking
I dod remember the clocktower being a b***h tho which was fun
Even the Arena wasn't hard really. It's just not a hard game, just not easy like the majority of the other Igavanias
Big issue is how game explain frick all and everything being random drop make certain parts more difficult than should be.
Also no recover post boss.
As I've said in the recent Castlevania threads, there's a Portrait of Ruin hack called Rondo of Ruin where you play as Richter and Maria and navigate new maps with a new plot. It's essentially a new game entirely and is rebalanced to be challenging. Some might say too challenging, but I feel like Castlevania fans are generally seeking difficulty. In addition, if you be been out of the loop for a while, Aria of Sorrow Alter is another hack that essentially turns AoS into a new game.
Does it add anything to the mechanics Richter and Maria had in Richiter mode?
Classicvania better than Metroidvania
Pathetic compared to the GBA games. I was so disappointed.
The Lords of Shadow trilogy are the only good castlevanias
meager bait
I wholeheartedly believe that a level select screen (though clumsy and incredibly brute force) does a better version of striating the game into meaningful sectors than the absolutely clownshoes teleporter system that basically every Igavania has.
For theming? yes.
For doubling back? hellllll no.
I think that's solvable, because LoS1 was definitely structured such that you could one-shot most of the levels and occasionally there'd be one or two items in designated "locked off behind X ability" zones. You'd want to make that more organic and have legitimate pathways to new map nodes rather than a strictly linear progression. There were a couple areas that came close to that, but they never really expanded upon it and the second game had such a dogshit level layout that I thought I was losing my marbles.
I've yet to dig into the LoS games. Worth a PC rip?
I'd say so. I played them recently for the first time and had a lot of fun, but I also have a taste for janky 3D action games (Clash: Artifacts of Chaos fricking rules and more people should play it) as well as a deep fondness for God of War. The voice acting is surprisingly high-quality but the writing is ass so you end up with Patrick Stewart chewing the hell out of the scenery. Combat feels solid but is a little upgrade-centric, and having to click the sticks to absorb magic feels like ass. Some of the puzzles were also a pain in the dick. Second game has better combat but worse level design, writing, pacing, and some absolutely atrocious stealth section. Mirror of Fate was an unremarkable but decent 2D castlevania, played that one on DS.
Overall you'll know pretty quick what you're getting into, and from there you'll know if you're willing to give it 10-20 hours.
I've been completing all the handheld titles (and the easily emulatable like SotN and RoB.)
I lost steam at the N64 titles. I know they're generally regarded as bad but I figured I could power through.
Yeah... the issue with trying to do anything systematically is that by definition you're going to deal with the worst part.
Yeah, ended up rekindling my love for pinball anyways. Trying to get a design drawn up for a Castlevania pinball to make in VPX.
It's not really my scene but I hear good things about Xenotilt
Oh dude, funny you mention that. I've played through (if you can call it that) all the "-tilt" games on TurboGraphx-16 and the one jap only game on SNES. Demon's Tilt (made by the same guys that did Xenotilt) isn't related to the OG trilogy but my god is it good!
You know, for how famous and recognizable Dracula is for the series does anyone else think it's kind of bizarre that there's no actual definitive 10/10 final boss fight with him? At best I guess you could argue the CV4 final boss has amazing buildup, which it does, but the actual fight is nothing special. Honestly a lot of even the best CV titles have pretty disappointing final bosses like Bloodlines, Rondo, and SotN. It's sad to think that we probably will never see the series truly do Dracula justice for a final battle.
Pretty much every metroidvania has shitty final bosses (and often bosses in general) because so much of the game is traversal and exploration. Getting stuck into a room and smacking a dude really isn't the raison d'etre
Yeah, the buildup to him is usually not quite as strong in them as the classicvanias. The only two final bosses from Igavanias that stick out to me is CotM (hard as frick at first but not bad once you understand the pattern of the second phase) and OoE (not amazing but it seems like there was more of an effort there, was really disappointing though realizing he only has two phases, he really needed a big spectacle phase 3).
PoR and especially OoE had pretty awesome boss fights, Harmony of Dissonance's could be scary too on Hard Mode
?si=4aolQQp6HmiNCEQN
The character himself being such a chad and the context for the fight helps a lot but it's still a great fight
it's because almost every Dracula battle is kino in it's own way
COTM???
CotM's Dracula is moderately memorable but definitely not a 10/10. The initial fight is pretty lame and the second phase is moderately tough with a great theme but it requires too much waiting around.
I really don't think this one is memorable outside of the idea of Dracula and Death partnering up being amusing.
Portrait of Ruin
I wish you could hold more of a conversation with Dracula. He seems like a genuinely interesting dude
New game when
As for For me? Its another year of Thief Gold, Thief TMA and Thief DS marathron whilst wearing a hoodie and earphones to muffle any exterior sounds a dimly lit candle on the side for the scent and atmosphere.
For me it's
>CV3
>Rondo
>PoR
Top 3 in that order.
so true. whats the key to progessing in rondo of blood? I don't know why but it is really really hard. I even tried to get my nephew to beat it thinking i was just an aging gamer. neither of us could get past the first stage.
Have you never played a Classicvania before? The series definitely has some tough levels but no first level in any game is remotely hard.
Rondo of blood for me was understanding richter, hes a slow ass homie. Movement is very stiff except for his backflip which you can only really use for predictable attacks. Just remember if theres ever a ninja skeleton, bat, fleaman bouncing around its best to stay grounded rather than trying to jump and hit them. Learn the enemies attacks and dont be afraid to just whip something back up wait for attack repeat. The boss is extremely easy, the stage gives you axes to spam on him. When the game clicks the only thing thatll give you trouble from tgere on out is Dracyla himself and his weird ass attack patterns
The werewolf or the dragon?
Learn the patterns yo.
Better get used to it when you will reach level 4 and 7.
Keep trying and for bosses watch the videos you can unlock in the menu.
Eventually try to unlock Maria and see if it's easier for you.
She has a super attack that kills boss in 3-4 hits.
>first stage
Bruh. Just collect hearts and use item crush to bring the bosses to half health and then beat them. If you still cant do it then resort to save scumming.
>no POC or black women
not interested
I never played a Castlevania game. Where should I start?
Start with Castlevania on NES. If you aren't feeling it, jump to SotN.
If you like 1? cool, play 1-3 on NES and then go to Bloodlines on Genesis, and Castlevania 4 on SNES, RoB on TG16, SotN on PS1 (or on saturn if you want 1 extra shit bonus level only in jap text, the GBA titles, DS titles.
If you didn't, but liked SotN, skip 1-3 and RoB, advance directly to the GBA and DS titles.
>play 1-3
That's cruel, anon. Why would you recommend anyone to play Simon's quest?
super castlevania 4 is actually the best castlevania
KEK,
Anon above, I amend, 1 and 3, Simons Quest is a slog even with the fix patch.
There are so many things I disagree with in this post. Why even play 2? Why RoB instead of superior Dracula X with fan translation? Also SoTN on saturn had several graphical issues (when I played it) compared to the smooth PSX.
>GBA titles
CoTM and HoD are not a good entry point. Aria of sorrow could be.
You're correct on 2, That was a mistake.
As for RoB, The fan translation of RoB on TG16 is good and I would advocate for that. Also, I only mentioned the saturn version for the extra area, I do NOT recommend that platform.
As for GBA titles, they're just the next step after SotN, Aria is good, CotM is eh.
I personally like Simon's Quest. It's very comfy
From the first. Play in chronological order
Have you played other metroidvanias? How much old-style frustration are you willing to put up with? Do you like grinding? Do you like backdashing?
1,2,3,4. download a the Sega rom for Dracula x
you can't really go wrong with any of them that isn't the adventure
my highlights would be
>1, a genuine masterpiece
>IV, easier than the rest of classic (a trait grossly overstated by tasteless homosexuals shitting on it) and has the tightest ending sequence in the entire series
>rondo (not the SNES remake, especially not the PSP demake), has by far the best presentation of any classic game and most consider it the best one of the bunch
>symphony, similar to rondo for IGAvanias
dracula x on psp is amazing and it even has the original rondo of blood unlockable moron your ass is probably just salty you didn't have a psp lmao
Nta. I haven't played it but does it have the option to choose the sprite for Ritcher.
>it even has the original rondo of blood unlockable moron
it doesn't work if you're emulating homosexual and the base game is ugly as sin 3D just like bloodstained
I was right, never owned a psp lel
>dracula x on psp is amazing
I haven't played it but I heard the original rondo also in the package. Why not just play that?
it's unlocked by picking up an item in one of the demake levels
why bother with that when you can play the original from the get go by playing the original?
I personally prefer emulating Dracula X in Japanese but if I have to guess why people recommend the psp games is probably due to its ease of access and alternate translation.
No III?
Alucard is a non sexual being just like vampire hunter D. frick Netflix
What in the frick did that have to do with the OP you brain-rotted moron. Frick off out of here.
the Netflix cartoon did castlevania wrong. sorry I have to defend it, homosexual.
/lgbt/ gayme
>last castlevania game was lords of shadow 2 in 2014
why haven't konami made a new game yet?
Lol don't you know. Last castlevania game was grimoire of souls released on mobile.
Last I heard, Konami was set doing pachinko machines. Damn shame. Castlevania pinball would go hard.
pachinko gets memed a lot but they're raking in cash on power pro. that dumb train game keeps selling in japan too.
They're currently remaking MGS3 for real this time. Unless they're letting someone else develop it
They bled out all their talent, it would be as if asking the 80 year old retiree to perform his famous feat from when he was 30. It's just not happening as they are now.
Yeah but if you bet Micheal Jordan $20 he can't dunk anymore he'll lace up. You can be past your prime and still at least give shit a shot.
>if you bet Micheal Jordan $20 he can't dunk anymore he'll lace up
Nah uh. That's the issue here. Konami is making easy bucks on its mobile games and gambling enterprises. They know they can earn more by focusing on their core business and sitting on their asses instead of taking a risk and failing in mainstream gaming. They already tested the waters with their new getsufumaden PC game, it flopped hard. Konami isn't coming back unless the metal gear solid delta and silent hill games make them earn record breaking profits which is extremely unlikely.
You're willfully ignoring reality, a better example is if Jordan would lace up after he failed the dunk 3 times in the past. He'd concede he's past ability.
but the last one is HoD released in 2010?
No silly. It was castlevania adventure rebirth in 2009.
Lords of shadow isnt castlevania
they are allegedly working on one due to its recent popularity thanks to the terrible netflix show
But they did! In 2018 Konami released a new mobile game with a new canonical Belmont MC! Sepia is super cute and charming!
Will we get the DS games in a collection this October?
Haha. no. You're not getting any collections anytime soon since they the previous castlevania and contra collections sold very poorly.
Is Aria the shortest of the GBA/DS Era CV's? I played through it for the first time in years and beat it in 4 1/2 hours, while grinding for certain souls. I don't recall it being so short.
HoD actually.
Definitely shortest completionist wise, which is the best way to play cv
dawn of sorrow is like an hour long on a casual play through
Sorry, but I got lost in the castle.
Are the spookyvania Nintendo 64 games non canon?
All spooky goes out the window with the god awful platforming.
Still If (skeletons) then spooky.
Respect.
>don't worry bout him. That's just ol crazy eye and his friend bones, we keep him around cause he gets rid of the bat infestations.
Filtered
>Are the spookyvania Nintendo 64 games non canon?
I hope so Netflix stays as far away from Carrie as possible.
>harmony of despair still trapped on the 360/PS3
JUST RELEASE IT ON PC KONAMI, IT'S A FUN LITTLE GRINDING COOP GAME
Make a thread, i'll boot it up and tear ass with you, i know and use literally every bizarre build and can no hit every boss
Lag generator?
Medic?
Richter spiked boots chad
Speed alucard?
I can play them all
Nice thread. The last castlevania thread was wild with people furiously shitflinging on both sides about the TV show.
Wtf just happened?
Purple nurple. Remember kids, nipple cripples can harm, even kill.
soulless
Perhaps the same could be said of all castlevania knockoffs.
Bloodstained will forever be a disappointment for summoning a guitarist instead of letting Miriam play herself
What are you favourite boss themes?
Finished SotN 200.6%, Finished Aria 100%. I'm still in the mood for some more Castlevania. I haven't tried the DS ones, or the rest of the GBA games.
Play all of them. Like the metroid games, the castlevania games are consistent in their quality.
Reminds me I should really finish Gal Guardians. For what it is, it's been a fun time.
perhaps it is time to play carrie's game
Or cornells game perhaps?
This is peak classicvania
Weird way to say you enjoy wiener and ball torture
Is it true Alucard was inspired by D?
>Anon you ARE excited for Halloween... aren't you?
Is Luck Mode any fun?
Yes.
Any good SOTN romhacks for better difficulty without outright removing content?
>characters you are slowly becoming
I'm playing pic related right now which i will probably finish around that time.
Objectively the best Metroidvanias are SotN, AoS, PoR.
I'm on a Castlevania spree. Have played so far:
>SoTN
>Rondo
> Super IV
>CotM
>HoD
>AoS
All pretty cool. Rondo has the best music while AoS might be the best of the bunch, even if it's a bit too short.
>SotN
nah, it's way too easy and unbalanced. It's a cool game, but it's carried mostly by the art and music.
SotN being extremely easy is not that cardinal a sin you people make it out to be, it's still a wonderful experience
This. AoS is piss easy even on hard mode so while I greatly prefer AoS to SOTN, being easy is hardly an issue for either of them.
Reminder that Curse of Darkness is a fun game and you should play it.
Anyone tried emulating Dracula X SotN on ppsspp? Heard something about it being unplayable.
Yeah it worked perfectly fine for me.
NIce, glad to hear I was wrong.
For me, it's Order of Ecclesia, followed by Aria of Sorrow
Is there a pastebin with download links for Castlevania / Metroid games?
it's almost time, metroidvania bros
No. I'm tired of trying out new metroidvanias just to find out that they always get something unforgivably wrong. I just want to back to time when games were good.
>Still haven't even finished the no hit boss run
This game makes me feel like a casual
How would you legitimately revive the series in Current Year?
You make a sequel to SotN, since it's the most popular game and only those already invested would know what a Castlevania in 1999 would mean. Maybe you play as Maria seeking Alucard, and along the way stuff happens. First half Classic second Metroid in a castle
There's three possible avenues as I see it. One more disappointing than the other. I don't think another 2D game would revive it. It'd probably sell well just from the lack of new CV games but I don't think it'd revive it.
1- Sony movie game. Basically just replace Kratos with Bobby Belmont. Receive accolade from the media for "evolving" the series.
2 - Curse of Darkness but actually put some sizable budget into the level design. DMC style curahzee with a lot to explore.
3 - Castlevania Souls. Aside from the lack of powers to allow for further exploration the Souls games could be easily be turned into a CV game. Wouldn't surprise me if someone at Konami has already tried to make it happen.
Wildcard option, Symphony of the Night Remake in 3D but without any compromises. Basically just perfectly nailing every detail, level design, weapons. It'd be absurdly difficult but if they could I think CV would be revived, in part because Konami would have a template to make sequels. But I don't see this ever happening without it being an utter disaster.
Just pull a reverse Terminator 2 and have Death travel back in time to 1999 to push back the date of Dracula's death, maybe have Soma come back in time too since he wouldn't have been born otherwise
As hacky as this is, people just don't want to play in a post-dracula world
A pointless question, Konami has stopped making video games, they only do gachas and remakes
Thoughts on the Dead Cells crossover? It's making me want to try the game just for it
Heard it's nothing big. Couple of castlevania themed rooms, some BGMs and a boss mixed within the base game due to how roguelikes work.
Where's the bloodstained 2 news, it's been over a year since it was announced
they're too busy collecting more reddit portraits for the hallways
