The cutscenes are terrible but the game really should have been more like baldur's gate in that you are a literal pleb at the beginning and goblins are a threat. The problem is larian isn't good at all at storytelling

Nope. They recommend you play a custom character first because the origins have spoilers as you learn about their story at the start of the game. The only one they don’t recommend is dark urge, because it changes the game so drastically. But I’m gonna dark urge first thing

Then do what I do: start as evil and when you end up doing something horrible you feel like reloading, create your good character and get it out on your canon “good” character. Then swap back and forth to see how different things get and be the dark urge!
