Tower > Swamp > Storms > Castle > Mine
hard because i like them all a lot, don't really have a standout least favorite except the part of 2-2 in the tunnels
disclaimer: the whole game is good but something has to be last
1. Boletarian Palace
great atmosphere and vistas, best levels, everything about the false king fight was perfect and cinematic
2. Tower of Latria
great and confusing level with keys acting like shortcuts, 3-2 is long as hell, and the old monk is the best boss, overall all the bosses here are good and the sound design is amazing
3. Stonefang Tunnel
flamelurker and armored spider are always fun, some pretty cool level design with lots of interconnectivity and secrets
4. Valley of Defilement
hardest levels of any archstone, the swamp filtered millions but it's pretty cool, worst bosses of any archstone
5. Shrine of Storms
don't really like the visuals as much as the other places, adjudicator is boring, 4-2 is very linear and narrow, old hero and storm king are cool
>BEST ARCHSTONE
I hesitate between latria and boletaria >WORST ARCHSTONE
Valley of defilment, far above the rest. 5-2 is legitimately one of the worst levels they ever designed.
>Storm place>Mines>Swamp
In terms of sheer peril, dread, mystery, and aesthetics Latria is one of the best designed levels I have ever played.
Another level that comes close, though admittedly has less grand of scope, is the Water Prison from SH4.
Worst is definitely the Valley of Defilement by far. That's the only area of the game I outright hated. I'd say Latria is probably the best.

Am I the only one who liked the swamp? I thought the shantytown > Open swamp > Maiden fight was one of the better sequences in the game.
In hindsight, it was probably the best swamp level in all the souls games
Now that you mention it the Shantytown was a good dungeon that was fun to navigate. The open swamp I suppose has a similar rail system where you have to run from island to island but the "floor is poison" design in souls games has generally felt like a nuisance rather than engaging navigation.
The first two swamp bosses were pretty lame though and way too similar. Both are big, lumpy swamp things and all I remember is one is covered in wood. Maiden Astraea was kino.
I think people just have a natural aversion to being forced to wade through shit. I forget at what point of the game it is, but I distinctly remember my character slowing to a crawl as he waded through shit.
I wouldn't mind 5-1 and 5-2 if the swamp wasn't such a chore to go through. Every step takes a million years and it's just not fun. Let the poison and the plague in but at least speed up the player's movement a notch.
The shanty was fine, but the open poison swap where you move slowly and there's barely any level "design" other than open swamp was complete ass and extremely lazy as well as tedious, not to mention that the whole idea of having a poison area to deal with but no actual poison meter you could manage and play around is just very stupid. The Maiden Astraea fight is good thematically I suppose, but the actual fight to me was just moving forward a little to bait one of Garl Vinland's slow as all frick swings, then move back to avoid it and punish. And do that over and over and over. It was a bad fight, the AI was just too dumb to make it anything more interesting. The AI is dumb in general but other bosses can actually pressure you to some degree and are more dangerous to fight.
If you want a poison hellhole level, Blighttown is actually much better. Not only can you find a ring which allows you to move normally through the swamp if you're willing to give up a ring slot but DaS1 actually shows you how close you are to eating a poison or toxic proc so there's something to actually play around. In DaS1 I actually made use of gear with better poison resist and managed the poison meter so I could run from bits of dry land to other safe places and the use of poison resist gear as well as the ring allowing normal movement actually enabled me to do this. DeS was just a slow, tedious slog for no reason and with no real way to play around it or adapt because you're just too slow and restricted while in the shit swamp for anything to be worthwhile to attempt.
It pissed me off that so many people pretended to have played the original just so they could shill the remake, despite it fricking up everything about the aesthetic and design choices.
It's like corporations have brainwashed people into shilling their products for free. They can't separate what they consume from their personalities and thus have to act like they love products that haven't even been released yet.
I played the original before Dark Souls was even a rumor and I liked the remake. I think you might just be one of those autists I hear so much about it.
>everything good about the remake was from the original game
Uh. Yeah? It's a tech showpiece for the PS5 with everything else being copy pasted from the original. That's the point. Wtf.
>atmosphere ruined
Demon's Souls was an asset flip of King's Field. There was no atmosphere. Ditto Elden Ring taking so much from previous Souls games. Doesnt make them bad, and doesn't make the seething against the remake any more impotent. Reminder that all of Ganker was 100% behind this game until it was revealed to be a console exclusive. The game is good, so was the OG, normal people enjoy both.

I disagree. However, I don't mind somebody preferring the original to the remake. I prefer replaging the OG Shadow of the Colossus over the PS4 remake. But with DeS I equally like both. It's a console showcase with nice haptic feedback, and I enjoy it for that reason.
This is classic fromsoft fanboy shilling. Game design in older From games use the following guidelines:
>completely omit thing >that IS the thing
No plot or story whatsoever? No silly, that IS the plot - you need to infer it from "context clues" like random one liners from forgettable npcs and lazily translated item descriptions
No budget to flesh out the game world? That's "atmosphere" - hurr durr, so empty and dark, no money for anything outside the bare minimum, so we'll drop the lights, put a bunch of fog everywhere, add like 5 NPCs total, and call it "atmosphere".
I got to NG+7 on the original before shelfing it, and the remake is a triumph. It represents what the original could have been if From actually had the money and clout they have now, instead of a product with incredible gameplay but weak everything else.

budget is overrated, they had a talented team able to make whatever game they wanted. you can't just throw more money at a soulless developer and expect them to make a masterpiece which demon's souls was "despite" its budget.
ye
it filtered millions
Alright Ganker, prove you played the game.
what do you think is the
BEST ARCHSTONE
WORST ARCHSTONE
Rank them on the quality of the entire archstone, not the individual parts of the archstone

not everything anon. I hated it most of it too, but MiB was an improvement

Didn't bother me and i enjoyed it a lot, guess it's a you problem.
i enjoyed the original more guess you're just moronic and a fake fan and never liked it
Does it really piss you off that much when people say they enjoy a video game?
>"fake fan"
Jesus, how old are you? kek
does it really piss you off when people prefer the original over the american demake? kek
>does it piss you off
No not really, i'm not the one insulting others, calling them fake and moronic.
you said i have a problem because i liked the old one better
No i said you have a problem because you're insulting others over their preference. Don't try to be dishonest.
you said that first though

No shit. It created it's on souls-like genre and entire soul series.
World Tendency is a garbage mechanic on par with DaS2's Soul Memory
Yes, world tendency is certainly complete crap.
world tendency is a great mechanic and anyone who doesn't like it is moronic and doesn't understand the game
it's horrible
thoughts on the new fluteboy?
I like how so much equipment in this game has unique effects like the dark silver shield giving +30% magic def or the DBS having fire defense
