For some reason its called Rare's worst game even if Mickey's Speedway USA exists.
Also people really hate the controls in this game, I don't have an issue with them besides the aiming being a bit too sensitive.
No one ever beat this game. its too long
It wasnt the lenght, it was rescuing all the tribals that filtered everyone.
>For some reason its called Rare's worst game
what a crazy world we live in.
the game is great, or at least I think so. Replayed it last year on a N64 and had a blast.
>absolutely crush one of the Floyd levels like never before and never will do again >get a motherfricking RAINBOW MEDAL >realize there's one for every one of these goddamn stages
Many hours later I gave up on getting just one more of those
Mickeys speedway is kino though its actually a great kart racing game and gets hard as balls later on. its just outshined but stuff like mariokart and dk racing
Neither game is close to Rare’s Bottom 5
The thing with JFG is that a lot of kids experienced it on Rare Collection for the first time but they fricked up the control mapping
>I don't have an issue with them besides the aiming being a bit too sensitive.
the aiming is really built for the original controllers, I can't hit shit without one
>Get Vela and Lupus all the ammo upgrades >Have to fight the final boss with Juno.
Also I can see someone being turned off with the tribal rescue shit.
>do this >can't finish the final boss >decide it would be better to restart >have to collect all the Tribals again >still have a fairly low number of ammo upgrades for Juno because it's so fricking easy to end up collecting too many as the other two
I did eventually finish it, but why the frick weren't the ammo upgrades universal?
what's the lore here
Their website had a email/letter section, and the guy running it would joke about putting Mr. Pants in games. He eventually even got his own game, It's Mr. Pants.
It really isn't, Rare has to be the most overrated developer of the 90's. Not a single of their games goes above 7/10 and yet they're praised as this legendary studio. Quantity over quality.
I loved the sniper rifle in this game and how the bullets did more damage the longer they traveled. I used to love shooting the tribals with it from across the map and watching them go splat everywhere.
This game has the most kino character select screen of any game ever made. Like legit it's number one. No other game's character menu even comes close.
This game has the most kino character select screen of any game ever made. Like legit it's number one. No other game's character menu even comes close.
who even was the music guy at Rare? god his shit was so good
did he do Goldeneye, too? this game always gave me similar vibes, that character select song in particular sounds like a Goldeneye or Perfect Dark level theme almost.
Same. That and the lava planet where you had to go inside that giant worm are the places that scared me most as a kid.
Always made me feel like I homosexual that the game unnerved me so much as a kid that I dropped it. Cool to see I wasn't the only one that got spooked to some degree. Speaks to the quality of the atmosphere though
The little Koala guy crying when his village and people have been slaughtered was the only thing I vividly remembered about that game until I came to the thread.
Mr. Pants sent his brethren to die while he got buddy-buddy with Mizar (he needed the army to take over Kongo Bongo and obtain his prize: the lead role in Donkey Kong’s Coconut Crackers)
??? controls are fine you dumb zoomer
for general movement it controls the same as any other 3D game
when shooting, hold manual targeting, move F/B/L/R with the C-buttons, aim with control stick
I was able to get every engine part... EXCEPT the one. You know the one. Thematically it makes sense, the Jet Force are canonical mercenaries, Jeff is making sure they do their job, and a real hero wouldn't leave civilians behind to be slaves and slaughtered.
Realistically though, I have 40 Tri-Rocket rounds and 450 MGun rounds. Give me the part or I will make you give it to me. Or just have Vela give him a handjob and take it while he's distracted.
And to echo what other anons have said, it's a shame the mandatory armor "upgrade" is such an aesthetic downgrade.
I think he meant "Is there a control scheme that works with modern controllers" because they just don't make 6 face button controllers anymore given the c-buttons were often used as just extra inventory slots rather than camera controls back then.
Maybe I should just look for a USB converter for the controller or something.
>mfw always used twin stick controllers with the C buttons mapped to the right stick >had no issue and beat this game last year
maybe being a leftie hand has it's benefits, we can adapt to reverse control schemes easily.
You know I know the game is supposedly known for its clunky controls, but the only real problem I had with them is the inverted aiming that can't be switched.
>Killer Instinct Gold >Blast Corps >GoldenEye 007 >Diddy Kong Racing >Banjo-Kazooie >Jet Force Gemini >Donkey Kong 64 >Perfect Dark >Mickey's Speedway USA >Banjo-Tooie >Conker's Bad Fur Day
All the N64 developed by Rare, in that order. Dinosaur Planet should've been the last one, but we all know what happened.
A few days after Japan got the +18 version of N64 Online, there was an article about Australia rating it, so who knows?
It probably only have a few games as most M-rated N64 games are already on the eshop.
If 2024 really is the last year for the Switch, hopefully soon.
I know Nintendo usually closes these things (happened with VC and 3ds/Wii U Eshop), but I have the feeling that the next console might keep NSO or rebrand it.
I never ended up beating this game because I got all the upgrades on the dog + Vela and the end boss you were forced to be Juno and thus I didn't have enough ammo. I never bothered to go back and redo the game solely because of the tribal gathering and how I couldn't stand doing it again.
I do remember making a JFG fanfic that included myself and my friends in 6th grade for a class assignment and getting an A for it. God I'm now remembering some of the cringe-ass shit I wrote in the early 00's...
Man, it could be worse. You could write a story with your friends about a school pet squirrel with a homophone name to a certain video game character massacring some astronauts, hijacking their rocket ship, flying to a city of toilets hidden in an asteroid belt and calling for the assistance of the “Great Grand Poo Poo” to destroy two self-inserts.
Meanwhile, the two self-inserts are listening to a speech by a bounty hunter Amazon who hunts space jellyfish or something before they’re kidnapped by said bounty hunter and forced to go on a space mission to destroy the rogue squirrel and pile of space shit.
Then my friends and I made a super edgy squeakuel that saw the squirrel teaming up with the self-inserts then being brutally killed when a swarm of alien insect invaders come to destroy Earth. Man, if I still had that old fifth-grade notebook, I’d share that shit.
Anyway, share your story.
Oh I dunno, it was pretty cringe to recall now because it was filled with bondage scenes. I didn't understand my DID fetish back then as I was only in 6th grade and would frequently write stuff that included a lot of references to characters being tied up. I truly fear the existence of an afterlife because it might mean I'm able to fully recall all the cringe-ass shit I did as a kid.
That was the only way I could kill a few of the bosses. I'd unload everything I had, before focusing on dodging while my friend killed the boss with Floyd's infinite ammo.
I could never figure out how to progress the normal mode, so I just played that shitty shooting gallery a lot. The multi player was kind of fun too, but it's probably actually really shit in reality.
first 60% of the game should be linear enough, the problem is after you fight Mizar the first time and get the jetpacks you have to collect ship pieces with the final one being locked behind 100% completion for rescuing the tribals which frequently get killed in crossfire and sections have to be replayed when it happens.
I have found two issues with the Switch version: >Widescreen is fricked up >There's a timing issue where because of the higher framerate the enemy's shoot cycles are much faster, some areas become bullet hell because of this.
The widescreen may be fixed in an update, but the timing one I doubt it (reminder Nintendo still hasn't fixed F-Zero X frame drops issues).
>Mizar turns out to be the tribal chief's brother Jeff who went nuts piloting a giant bug suit and then gathered a giant bug army
What were they thinking with this
>Vela and Lupus
You just know
Nah Vela only takes BBFC.
Big bug fun wiener
sure is, who said otherwise?
beating this game as a kid sure felt like a feat was achieved, that last Mizar fight was hard as balls.
also, kino OST
For some reason its called Rare's worst game even if Mickey's Speedway USA exists.
Also people really hate the controls in this game, I don't have an issue with them besides the aiming being a bit too sensitive.

>For some reason its called Rare's worst game
what a crazy world we live in.
the game is great, or at least I think so. Replayed it last year on a N64 and had a blast.
The Floyd sections were way too hard. I completed them all and eventually 100%'d the game but it took such a long time.
Vela's bouncing boobs and panties kept me going.
>absolutely crush one of the Floyd levels like never before and never will do again
>get a motherfricking RAINBOW MEDAL
>realize there's one for every one of these goddamn stages
Many hours later I gave up on getting just one more of those
I can't remember, but were the Floyd levels another thing you had to do to beat the game?
Pretty sure you had to do them for some reason, but I can't remember what. JFG had a lot of shit you had to collect.
Mickeys speedway is kino though its actually a great kart racing game and gets hard as balls later on. its just outshined but stuff like mariokart and dk racing
It's just a bunch of zoomers on Ganker that got filtered.
I loved the OST, it made the game feel like an unofficial Star Wars game
I got filtered by that last boss when I was a kid, although I also want to blame Mario Party for fricking up my controllers before I got to play this.
SS Anubis theme is my favorite.
>SS Anubis theme is my favorite.
based, whenever I think about JFG that theme comes to mind.
No one ever beat this game. its too long
It's true
I had a buddy who was a die hard completionist who had it, and he never beat it.
I never beat it because i rented it and had like a few weeks left before going to bootcamp.
I beat it a long time ago. Had to consult am online guide for a few things, but I did it.
Sounds like a Rare game
Probably the worse Rare game. I dont remember anyone who enjoyed it
>Get Vela and Lupus all the ammo upgrades
>Have to fight the final boss with Juno.
Also I can see someone being turned off with the tribal rescue shit.
>do this
>can't finish the final boss

Their website had a email/letter section, and the guy running it would joke about putting Mr. Pants in games. He eventually even got his own game, It's Mr. Pants.
One of my all time favorites. Been a few years since I last played it. Might be time for another run.
the remake captured none of the original soul
It really isn't, Rare has to be the most overrated developer of the 90's. Not a single of their games goes above 7/10 and yet they're praised as this legendary studio. Quantity over quality.

That video reminds me of the greatest travesty of the game when they gave Vela shorts under her skirt after getting the jetpack upgrade.
>get upgrade for lupus
>he's permanently rolling around in a dumb looking tank thing for the rest of the game
I HATE IT
didn't he get his legs blown off?
this one's pretty cool too
>disabled dog on a tank
based, much better than D&D's combat wheelchairs
Juno got a full helmet.
Vela got shorts under her skirt, hiding her underwear while she swam.
Lupus was put in a tank.
The jet pack upgrade was great but made all of the characters look objectively worse.
who even was the music guy at Rare? god his shit was so good
Robin Beanland for this game in particular, he did the music for Killer Instinct 1, 2/Gold and Conker's BFD.
did he do Goldeneye, too? this game always gave me similar vibes, that character select song in particular sounds like a Goldeneye or Perfect Dark level theme almost.
Nah, Goldeneye was Grant Kirkhope (Banjo-Kazooie, DK64, Perfect Dark) and Graeme Norgate (Blast Corps, Perfect Dark).
THere were a couple. Robin Beanland, Grant Kirkhope and Graeme Norgate were probably the most famous
Love it can't get enough of it
>shot in the head
did she dead?
Just a flesh wound
Rith Essa was always my favorite track.
there isnt enough vela art
Behold the best fanart ever
That’s debatable.
Did somebody say Vela?
It's great I will agree, but it controls REALLY badly even for a 64 game. It's just rough man.
I actually mail ordered a prima strategy guide for this game to find all the fricking tribals
Just found out the game's called StarTwins on Japan.
Much lamer name if you ask me.
StarTwins is alright imo
Jet Force Gemini is definitely much better though
They didn't even add Star Twins to the JP N64 emulation. They only got the other two games.
If you mean NSO it got added in November along Goldeneye on the N64 +18 emulator.
Holy shit you can almost see her bare ass
>Much lamer name if you ask me.
They changed it to Star Twins because Jet Force Gemini was too hard to pronounce for the Japanese
This game scared me. I remember getting to a dead planet where everything is zombified and I quit
Delicious Vela.
damn those are some exceptionally well drawn breasts
Bruh when are they finally going to make a new game?
I really hated how fricked up the ants were to the marshmallow people.
Those damn koala bears weren’t saints, you know.
Especially a certain one with important connections…
Total koala death
never played this but it's like rayman 1 where you can't actually beat the game unless you save all the little homies
Its probably the darkest Rare game on the console, I still think its fricked up that you can kill the baby tribals.
what's the lore here
Mr. Pants sent his brethren to die while he got buddy-buddy with Mizar (he needed the army to take over Kongo Bongo and obtain his prize: the lead role in Donkey Kong’s Coconut Crackers)
Literally the only good N64 game
i like that there's a secret dkr track in the race minigane
...until the part where you gotta collect all the furries
Is there a good way to play this game nowadays and with it's weird control scheme
It plays perfectly fine on the n64.
??? controls are fine you dumb zoomer
for general movement it controls the same as any other 3D game
when shooting, hold manual targeting, move F/B/L/R with the C-buttons, aim with control stick
I was able to get every engine part... EXCEPT the one. You know the one. Thematically it makes sense, the Jet Force are canonical mercenaries, Jeff is making sure they do their job, and a real hero wouldn't leave civilians behind to be slaves and slaughtered.

i wonder how far i was, i have this game in a box in the basement
>Rare wanted a Saturday Morning Cartoon and a Toyline based on it.
>Even making a deal with 4kids of all companies to do it.
>Nothing ever came of it.
that looks like shit
bro that's everyone's favourite furry+fetish boomer JollyJack
Guy worked for Rare?
Honestly I think it could have worked. 4kids also bankrolled the 2003 TMNT Cartoon and thats widely regarded as one of the best ones.
Hard to say. But being based on the worst BK game was a rough hurdle to start on, especially if they used its art style.
thankfully I'm not a homosexual so I have no idea what you're talking about
didn't that comic get posted on Ganker?
can't find it in the archive
>Nothing ever came of it.
4kids died. Kinda for the best, they wanted to do a BK Nuts & Bolts cartoon, too.
As much as I like the OG design, I’d definitely like to bust a fat one in that Vela.
Same. I like her hair style in the comic better then how it looks in the game, I think it looks cute.
i really enjoyed it...till the final tribal search.
final boss was a challenge when i was a kid
You know I know the game is supposedly known for its clunky controls, but the only real problem I had with them is the inverted aiming that can't be switched.
The controls aren't as bad as people say, although R aiming takes a lot of getting used to.
Kinda reminds me of Fur Fighters.
for most of the game. i really didn't have a problem with the controls

You mean the NINTENDO ULTRA 64
So, whats the over/under on Conker and/or Perfect Dark getting on the Switch service?
If 2024 really is the last year for the Switch, hopefully soon.

>find all the tribals
Frick you Rare god fricking dammit FRICK
Oh God, I forgot about the mermaid.
N64 Candy Kong has massive breasts
Gaming was different back then.
Genuinely surprised that DK 64 hasn't been put on NSO yet.
I never ended up beating this game because I got all the upgrades on the dog + Vela and the end boss you were forced to be Juno and thus I didn't have enough ammo. I never bothered to go back and redo the game solely because of the tribal gathering and how I couldn't stand doing it again.

Oh wow, some people got tied up. Big deal.
Do it. Share it.
Someone should leak the Jet Force Gemini beta, the beta soundtrack was fire unlike the final game which had a shit soundtrack, take a listen:

Kino
You could tell me this was from Goldeneye 64 and i'd believe it.
My wife Marii is so cute

Yeah, she is
Beta JFG gameplay, that song starts at 25:17

It’s meh compared to Cerulean, Sekhmet, and the regular Water Ruins.
Reminds me too much of golden eye, glad they went with something more unique.
Holy kino

The hardest game over screen ever made.

>Rare
No it isn't.
I never found all the ship parts, they were hidden too well. Cryptic-ass game.
Is it me or earlier footage had a more anime inspired models? dont know if it was just my perception or it was real.
The characters were much younger at first but iirc Miyamoto asked Rare to age them up.
Just Nintendo in general. They didn't like the idea of two kids slaughtering so many creatures.
Still remember Vela's jiggle physics.
>Unlocking Floyd allows player 2 to take control of him
That was pretty neat, it was like having a second shooter play along with you
>unlock him and friend plays with me
>he just kills the fricking bears
The main drawback being forced to hear that mad loud rotor sound.
That was the only way I could kill a few of the bosses. I'd unload everything I had, before focusing on dodging while my friend killed the boss with Floyd's infinite ammo.
PC port when?
When they finally port Rare Replay.
>water ruins OST

Kill or spare?
Spare, I will not elaborate
You who are without mercy now beg for it? I thought you were made of sterner stuff...
>Kill or spare?
no mercy
I remember you had to kill these guys anyways to open certain doors.
I have found two issues with the Switch version:
>Widescreen is fricked up
>There's a timing issue where because of the higher framerate the enemy's shoot cycles are much faster, some areas become bullet hell because of this.
The widescreen may be fixed in an update, but the timing one I doubt it (reminder Nintendo still hasn't fixed F-Zero X frame drops issues).
Yup, would.
