OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THE TWINK UNDER THE TREE
Well you see anon, tomorrow this trailer will be explosively popular so it's important to be on top of news like this so we don't look like clueless hipster buttholes who don't actually play anything.
I really didn't like Elden Ring. It is possible the DLC turns it into something I like though, I thought Dark Souls 3 was pretty lame before the excellent DLC dropped, containing by far the best zones in the game. Maybe if the DLC is nothing but cool dungeons to offset the boring open world of the base game.
it has soured on me over time. i just want answers. ill play the DLC i suppose but if its just nonsense poetic rambling with no concrete lore im going to be upset
>FromSoft has also developed its approach to field design. Previously the divide between field and dungeon areas was quite distinct. "This time, we wanted to go more in depth and bring a denser and richer level design, which brings these types of layout together a little more seamlessly," said Miyazaki. "There of course will be large open areas, there of course will be legacy dungeons, but we've also experimented with something a little more in-between these as well to bring a more diverse gameplay experience."
What do you mean by roleplay options? Fricking npcs you meet? Dialogue options? What would these effectively add to the game? In terms of consequences.
roleplaying doesnt have to involve consequences. Covenants allowed players to play in a mindset wherein they were opposed to or supportive of certain elements or factions. in Elden Ring there are no covenants so the only "roleplaying" you do is to unlock endings or say "yeah sure" to an NPC to unlock a path or option.
volcano manor is a set of a few combat encounters and you never really "join" anything of the sort.
If Elden Ring actually had "Erdtree Faithful" or "Volcano Manor" or "Raya Lucaria Academy" that offered even minor rewards for being aligned with them it would offer more roleplaying options for the kind of character youre playing
i mean sure but were talking about roleplaying features within a game, we can do whatever we want as roleplaying. If i decide i want to be devoted to Ryussy and secure a future for her then thats easy to do but faction rewards are ez engagement from within the game itself.
All right, but in terms of effective change, covenants didnt do much either.
In fact, I think Elden Ring has more "roleplaying" options than Bloodborne, with all of its endings, as you said, that mostly involves allying yourself to a faction of the world.
I really dont like this definition of roleplay in games as acting something that is not effectively there. I think Elden Ring is a roleplaying game because It nicely embodies the premisses behind the origin of RPGs, Od&d, in which roleplaying, as in playacting, wasnt even necessary.
In other words, I think it has enough roleplaying already, It has Dungeons, a world to explore and immerse yourself, factions to choose and different endings that come with them, ways to customize your personal character and influence the world somewhat. This is what roleplaying is.
i only agree partially because you dont actually affect the world in any way but killing bosses and even then nothing changes except maybe a random guy in the corner going "oh so ye killed me master aye? lol, lmao even". the roleplaying in Elden Ring is INCREDIBLY thin when note by note compared to other RPGs.
youve also listed gameplay elements not features of roleplaying. the existence of dungeons doesnt permit roleplaying when youre just killing everything inside it. in traditional RPGs youve mentioned the roleplaying is the interaction between the characters and party inside or the player character using their abilities to solve the dungeon's issues.
Elden Ring never asks the player to use an ability to solve a dungeon, you just press switches, open doors and kill enemies and roleplaying is usually slightly
more complex than just combat encounters. Its a blank slate sure but that doesnt mean its doing anything effectively by being one
I mean, exploration and combat are also an integral part of roleplaying games, especially in its conception, and Elden Ring does that pretty nicely. Things that were solved, by the way, not by using personal skills or Magic but by immersing oneself in the exploration.
Old video game RPGs genres, such as Dungeon crawlers, didnt boast deep dialogue of roleplaying but were nonetheless great RPGs and replicates the exploration part of RPGs perfectly.
I think Elden Ring is more closely tied to that style of RPGs and really not any less of an RPG because of It. Yeah, I agree that perhaps certain enemies could be friendly If left alone or be momentarily contracted to replicate old School reaction rolls, but I dont find Elden Ring flawed because It lacks these options.

the things it did well made up for the things it did not for me. RP walking carefully down a hallway before seeing an enemy and taking up a stand with my katana before killing it instantly when it jumped at me with a draw attack was more than enough to satisfy character/player expression.
its the things it lacked that still bug me after it was over. well. i say was, we have DLC to start up on some shenanigans again

You should join a theater troupe.
Now being serious about what you said, its just that I dont find enjoyable things that dont have concrete consequences.

I mean you can't visibly witness your character's reactions or read their thoughts, but you can intuit it, no? You should play with the mindset that you're *in* the World of the game, even if the player behind the screen knows what's reality and what's not.

I dont exactly find It fun to Go yeah hahah my character is so badass he is totally there samurai I imagines! Though I understand the aesthetical appeal of setting yourself as your character or fondly imagining the personalities of your party members, I dont find that particularly essential to the RPG experience.
Effectively for me roleplaying is just engaging with the setting under the premisses of the games that have birrb to the genre. You can roleplay, ie playacting or imagining things that arent really there, out of roleplaying games and that doesnt turn them into roleplaying games by all means
I'm sure its going to be the peak of FromSoft DLCs, but im not sure its going to top my favorite DLC list simply because i fear its going to be very formulaic.
If the DLC is just "here have another map and new bosses and weapons" then im not going to praise it so high.
Im sure its going to be worth it though.
I think its time for a FromSoft DLC to shake things up a bit, introduce new mechanics, new ways of playing the game, new ways of telling a story and make the expansion feel different from the main game if not in gameplay at least in theme and tone, cause FromSoft DLCs are literally just a new map and boss, it doesnt feel distinct enough, not even in story.
Pretty sure its going to be one of the highest rated games in this year.
Not a rpg.
Wrong.
What do yo umean it's a roll playing game.

>GRRR WHY DON'T YOU WANT TO BE EMASCULATED IN YOUR RPG?!
>It's here.
It's a commercial for a commercial...

nobody makes being miserable into an art form like Ganker

It's supposed to be comparable to a full game in size.

FORCED DIVERSITY
i wish elden ring would have less focus on combat and more roleplaying options. it would have been a nice open world rpg.

You don't have an imagination.
You should join a theater troupe.

Oh no, it looks good. I was going to shitpost about it.
from the looks of it, it seems we might get an entire overlapping map ala Deeproot except it’ll cover the entire base continent.
The trailer in question, fromsoft site got so much traffic the servers crashed.
boss at 1:21 seems like Ludwig 2.0, we are in for some fun times
Anyone hoping it adds a Miquella ending like we have with Ranni's ending?
the basegame will be unaffected by the DLC says Miyazaki
sad
Why can't I just live happily ever after serving a qt femboy/trap?
>21st of june
I sleep.
But it was nice to know that its development has gone far enough for a release date, it's been years already.
I'm sure its going to be the peak of FromSoft DLCs, but im not sure its going to top my favorite DLC list simply because i fear its going to be very formulaic.
