I have mixed feelings. I love the aesthetics and environments, basically the entire problem with the game is the fludd jetpack, which severely constrained their ability to design good levels.
The fludd-less floating void sections are some of the most pure 3D platforming I've ever seen, which clearly shows that the folks working on it knew their shit, they were just prevented from actually being able to put it to work for most of the main levels.
>I love the aesthetics and environments, basically the entire problem with the game is the fludd jetpack, which severely constrained their ability to design good levels
Nah, the environment really did a number on the level design. Beaches are flat. They wanted everything to look immersive and "comfy" at the cost of actual platforming, so there's a ton of shines where you just fricking walk down a path instead of the wild acrobatics you'd see in Super Mario 64. Then they filled up the rest with gimmicks.
The first half of Corona Mountain is platforming that expects you to use Fludd competently and I had more fun with that short section than the rest of that slog of a game
Only aspects of this game I dislike >blue coins inconsistent from shine to shine / no way to track blue coins >bowser volcano gate opening conditions are wack
overall jank but fun and the "hard" shines are not actually that hard
Of course blue coins are inconsostent from level to level. The blue coins you can't get in every mission are designed to be only attainable in one mission and couldn't make sense in another mission due to added/missing elements (the hotel casino or the fire goop in Pianta Village for example). Most of those mission specific coins are pretty obvious if you just explore carefully and do the mission. There also aren't many of actual mission specific coins. Still sucks that they aren't rlly trackable, you're right.
Wait til you see how bad the b-team stopgap mario games are where they just piece together games made from leftover assets. Stuff like "new" super mario, mario "3d" world and mario "elephant" etc are.
Does any know if the PAL version had any glitches fixed over the NTSC version? I was watching Giant Bomb's old playthrough and they were running into more glitches than I ever remember seeing, and I've finished it a couple of times.
>Game about cleaning up a city >You literally wield a water-spraying jetpack >Like 10% of the game involves FLUDD beyond platforming
Nintendo fricked up. They could have made Sunshine into a nonviolent, environmentally-conscious Ratchet & Clank but instead we got 64 with somehow jankier movement and less content.
How the frick does anyone unironically dislike this game? The settings and music are fantastic, it added a fun mechanic to the Mario formula and it's memorable as frick unlike odyssey.
My homie it has one good boss fight, two good songs and all of the good stages are hidden inside of pipes. Even then, only half of them are fun to play.
The gamecube is carried hard by a select few titles. I appreciate that nintendo was willing to experiment with established IPs but for the most part it didn't pay off. For every good sequel like f zero, neat original ip like pikmin or solid spinoff like luigi's mansion there's a bunch of games with questionable stylistic or gameplay choices or that are just shit.
Enjoyed of most 3d marios here (never played odyssey) why does this one in particular make so many people on this board shit and fart in anger so much?
The best 3D Mario is still 64 and it's romhacks. Sunshine was only good in certain sections. Fludd was only good with precise speedrun tricks and Mario felt more floaty overall. The hover mode fludd was too slow and awful to use.
Condition for the end game should have been 70 Shine Sprites like Mario 64.
Reminder that every
level 8 shine
100 coins shine
Bonus shine (2 per stage)
Delfino Plaza shine
Blue coins shine
Is completely worthless because the end game condition is finishing every stage's level 7.
This game is the greatest litmus test. If you see someone complaining about one of the FLUDDless levels that isn't the IM A CHUCKSTER scenario, then they're automatically a shitter and their opinion should be discarded immediately.
It's honestly amazing how it still filters morons to this very day

Even so, it has a pretty unique charm about it.

Super Mario 64 had fifteen main levels and at best two of them involved "wild acrobatics"
Don't you find it strange how the moment we have technology that is good enough we're given gimmicky goyslop instead.
>fludd gliding you for 2 fricking seconds
>all those god damn geometry levels
>yoshi can't even swim
dodo do dododoo

Mama Mia!
*PSSSSHHH*
Holy fricking filtered
What's bizarre about it is how aspects of it that would feel incredibly tedious in any other game feel more comfy and tolerable in it.
I would be more tempted to replay it if it wasnt for the blue coin thing.
>The airplanes flying around in the skybox
Pure soul. I loved just aiming the camera up and watching them go
I hope one day the beta gets fricking leaked.

Digimon Rumble Arena 2

GameCube's strongest titles were 3rd party

Sucks so much wiener
Anybody defending SMS is just plain moronic
iNinja was a much better platformer than Sunshine
I love this game and nothing you wienersuckers say will ever prevent me from having a fun, good time 100%ing this game every other year.
it's my favorite 3D mario
