White label is brutal.
black probably, I played a bit of both and didn't notice many differences, but it still takes me 10+ credits to beat it, you only start noticing the difficulty spikes when you're trying to be consistent

White label takes all of your extends away in the second loop.
I respect shmups, but I don't particularly enjoy the more bullet hell ones. I feel like my brain starts to glaze over with that many things on screen. My old army buddy was a die hard shmup player and we'd mess around with some while drinking.

It's mostly muscle memory for the games you're bullshitting about, and I don't have it and have zero intention of putting that kind of time in for a genre I enjoy as a one off. I'm happy to scrape past a shit boss with continues in an otherwise decent run, I don't need it clean

What this is actually describing is RTS, not shmups
Gets similarly maligned with "muh APM" but it's not the same, you have directions to improve with RTS which includes just playing the game backwards and catching people/AI out

But to be fair the developers often mess up the AI in 4X games.
Aren't those games just clicking on things?
They require some brains and strategizing but the AI often isn't designed well and the difficulty settings tend to only make the AI get more bullshit bonuses.
Although I don't think they're meant to be played for very long because at that point you find out about The Meta and then it just becomes exploiting The Meta, whether in singleplayer or multiplayer. A lot of strategy games suffer from this, even RTS games.
For some reason it's not really a genre that's often played by casuals. At the same time it should also be determined whether a casual is someone who is poorly skilled at games or someone who barely plays videogames.

I think I don't like shmups of the same reason I don't like most fps games, you're just moving a dot around the screen. It's too mechanically "abstract" I guess, I can't get invested in that.

Ganker is the origin of memes like artificial difficulty for example. Hard filtered by Dark Souls and unable to sdapt. They're also morons when fighting games come out. They make huge sweeping claims about balance, etc - when they're usually completely disproven. Worst of all are Smash threads, where people are just objectively shit at the game and cry about Melee.
Ganker can't handle games with good tech execution, or precision. Therefore, genres like OP would butt blast this board.
The last thread was actually really nice but because people don’t know how to ignore the schizo moron it was ruined. From now on I feel all shmup thread OP’s should included a warning telling people to not interact with them.
