>ITS JUST LE NO MANS SKY!!!

>ITS JUST LE NO MANS SKY!!!

Except with more dialogue and thus quests and handcrafted content than Fallout 4 + Skyrim combined

>ITS ALL LE PROC GEN!!

All content is handcrafted, the only procedural thing is where it actually generates based upon where you've landed on a planet. There might be a more advanced form of radiant quests but as shown with the variety of cities and unique locations/factions there's going to be more unique content than in any other Bethesda game

>ITS JUST FALLOUT 4!!!

I didnt know Fallout 4 had space ships, space combat, and cities larger than a city block. Oh, it doesn't. Also the protagonist is no longer voiced and you have a total blank slate character to work with, a significant element of a good RPG

>ITS GONNA BE BUGGY AND UNSTABLE!!!

The QA team for this game is larger and more well funded than ever before thanks to the XBox resource pool, it will probably run much better than any UEshit stutter garbage released this year.

>BUT YOU CANT HAVE FUN YOU JUST CANT!! YOU CANT!!!

If someone told you about this game 10 years ago you'd be shitting your pants in excitement, you've become a jaded cynic. Stop being depressed.

Now buy his game.

The lead quest designer for this game is the guy who was the lead for Far Harbor, which is arguably the only half decent content and writing in the entirety of Fallout 4

Combat appears a lot quicker now. They didn't show much end game combat besides small snippets but it looks like there's some interesting enemies as well. I'm going to be downloading a difficulty mod ASAP though, Bethesda has never had satisfying challenge in their combat.

            >end game combat
It’s a Bethesda game, not an mmo. There’s no difference between end game and picking up your first weapon. The combat doesn’t change.

I’m not faulting bethesda games, I enjoy them. But the gameplay essentially never changes. You just do more damage through skill level or perks.

That's almost any game. Which games change meangfully towards the end without switching genres or giving you a busted ability you just use all the time from that point on?

Some games actually give you abilities or skills that you can unlock as you progress, fundamentally changing combat. Cyberpunk, for example. Early game I was just shooting people. End game I was slowing down time and jumping on top of people and killing them with mantis blades and hacking people. Combat changes every time you switch up your implants.

                >and killing them with mantis blades
I can't believe Cyberpunk invented having ranged and melee weapons in the same game
                >hacking
You can charm and scare people even in fricking Skyrim
                >Combat changes every time you switch up your implants.

I'm worried about how you traverse the surface after landing. Your only possibility seems to be walking/sprinting. At least you had a horse in TES games. It will end up being:
      >select landing spot on map
      >wait on loading screen/landing animation
      >walk away from ship in any direction
      >discover and finish some POIs
      >fast-travel back to ship
      >cutscene back to space

Sounds like normal Bethesda exploration but with a spaceship.

          Anonymous

Most of their games have scaled down cities and regions and you could walk from one corner of Skyrim to the other in under an hour. This time they're going for a more realistic scale so I'm worried about the time you're actually spent walking from one interesting location to the another.

            Anonymous

So far we haven't seen any point of interest further than 2 kilometers away from where the player is standing planetside. You probably never have to walk further since you'll only discover points of interest from space and land right next to them, then explore the immediate area.
The big question is if you can spend hours walking from one space-discovered point to another rather than fly. Could go either way.

              Anonymous

In the presentation they said that the content is spawned procedurally as you explore so I imagine that sites relevant to quests are visible from space but you can just keep on walking in any direction and more things are spawned Daggerfall-style.

        Anonymous

There seems to be a distinction between "exploration" gameplay, where you are sent to X planet to roam and eventually uncover whatever handcrafted stuff they have set to spawn there, and then you can also choose to set up an outpost or whatever, and the classic quest stuff which happens in the major cities and specific parts of space.

I thought it was funny when he was asked where they got their inspiration from during the IGN interview following the starfield direct. The interviewer even mentioned NMS and Mass Effect and you could tell that Todd was a bit uncomfortable. I mean that's the reason why they always mention it being 25 years in the making, as a defensive argument against people calling it a rip-off or maybe even lawsuits.

It's the game NMS is pretending to be. Even after it's "redemption" it's still a fake game. There is no gameplay. It's just flying around and looking at things. There are no systems; no interactivity. It's a farce. Always has been. It never got better.

I don't agree. I never considered NMS to be ambitious, if anything it wasn't ambitious enough. At its best it promised to be Space Engine and Spore mashed together, and that's not something I think anybody really wants.

NMS was also a low budget indie title originally announced as a launch era PS4 exclusive, anyone who wasn't moronic saw that mess coming from a mile away long before it came out
