Had good memories of the game, so I replayed it a few months ago - still holds up. This game made me regard 350Z as the best car ever. Haven't played any racing games since then though, maybe I'll charge my Vita and finish WipEout 2048 proper

I never liked the 350Z and all its variants.
It looked fat and slow. like a hippo.

I hate U2 gays with passion. U1 was so much better in every aspect. Open world element is absolutely pointless waste of time and adds nothing to gameplay. Playing U1 is just pure undiluted fun in comparison.

Sometimes you just want to cruise while listening to music without being in a race, homosexual.

Why do all modern racing games have such incredibly shit music.
Old games had multiple bangers from multple genres so you're guaranteed to like at least half.
Modern stuff is just all 100% shit, be it NFS, Forza, the crew, whatever.
Like rock music is almost non existent anymore.

      Anonymous

unironically because rock/metal isn't as good anymore
aside from a few bands everything sounds the same and generic
bands like disturbed, avenged sevenfold, etc got old, so the only real option is to just use old music

why did arcade racing games die?

      Anonymous

They haven't they are more popular than ever.
Unless you don't consider Forza and the Crew "arcade" because muh simcade.

        Anonymous

I don't, worrying about breaking points makes it not arcade in my book
Also people turn off the music while racing in those games. The ost is one of the thing that made NFS:U and Burnout 3 iconic

Because they lost the sense of speed and danger.
Nobody wants to play a game that neutered.

I don't know, I feel like iRacing changed everything
Consumers only want to buy simulators and Gran Turismo clones these days

          Anonymous

I'd like to buy a Gran Turismo clone but no one is making them. Even Polyphony can't get GT right at this point.

          Anonymous

The issue is nobody is making GT clones with proper career modes where you climb the ladder.
It's all instant gratification straight into S1 class 5 minutes after booting the game now.
that and all that fricking moronic forced social media integration and character customization with emotes to show off in front of other morons.

I think arcade racers killed themselves, and it started with Burnout Revenge.
It was completely pussified compared to 3, you could now at any point simply retreat into your safety net by taking the right lane, since crashing into cars would just send them flying before you.
Look at arcade racers today. Trees, bollards, fences, random cars just get plowed through, roads are insanely wide in all games and it all leads to everything feeling slow and weak. Racing in GTA has a better feeling of white knuckle racing.
Even if its an arcade racer need that feeling of tension, that one frick up could lead you to crash and burn.

And it's on the writing too, in NFSMW you get fricked over, Razor makes you his b***h in the eyes of the city, you get pissed on and have to claw your way to the top.
Modern NFS is afraid of even presenting you stakes.

            >Trees, bollards, fences, random cars just get plowed through, roads are insanely wide
That and the introduction of rewind to fix any mistake
That said GRID was still good despite of that.

No, 00s were the best because it was the transitional period of "no internet" to "everything is the internet".
It was the peak hybrid analog/digital era.
      Now everything is digital.
