why do they bother trying to make FF an action game if they are afraid of the player actually having to play an action game
i was never a fan of menu selection but its 1000 times better than the modern jrpg formula of being a bottom of the barrel action game that plays itself
Because Squeenix spent so much money on it that they need to sell 10-15 millions copies just to break even and the corporate meta says that action games sell better than RPGs.
Of course, if were to have more realistic budgets and focus on having actual role playing mechanics and a good story with likeable, unique, characters, then they would stand a pretty good chance of having a mass seller with a better profit margin per unit.
But the vidya industry’s corporate management is dumb as shit and Square Enix’s is dumb even by that standard. Still probably not as dumb as Marvelous (!) DMCAing every video uploaded on to social media of Daemon Ex Machina, but up there.
I’m not even inherently against JRPGs leaning more into action/ARPG combat. No one is going to say that Secret of Mana was a bad game or bad JRPG because it had that style of combat. But to act like that this is something that FF “needs” to have in order to sell in volume is ridiculous.
>No one is going to say that Secret of Mana was a bad game or bad JRPG because it had that style of combat.
Unironically. Completely unironically.
FF16 should have been a Mana game and not Final Fantasy game.
Really feels like there's a smear campaign against the game because it threatens the eventual "PS5 failed and here's why" articles if a Japanese exclusive sells well.
>Like, I am playing through XVI and thinking that by itself is an ok game that swings from amazing to mediocre in the span of a few hours. But, in the context of being a FF, it accomplishes so much, and what you need to accomplish as a FF mainline title does not necessarily mean being a great game >But it's actually a good thing, it's helping me focus less on FF as a "game" and more on FF as an "experience", shedding a new light on how I view my favorite series. >There is some stuff I love, and some stuff I find truly disappointing or flat out terrible in a videogame, but it is a fantastic Final Fantasy
Holy shit, what level of cope is this?
what the frick are you trying to say
FF13 was a literal linear hallway for 90% of the game, with one open area where you go around doing sidequests for rocks
In FF16 there are multiple field areas that you can go back to at almost any part of the game for sidequests or hunts. The only linear part is the one-time levels which are linear like most dungeons in any final fantasy game
XIII doesn't open up at all. >All the cool locations you've been through for the past 20 hours? Gone. >Just go kill monsters in this empty barren wasteland and get EXP for 10 hours. >Then you can continue the story xd
Why the frick people pretend like FFXIII's open "world" parts were good? They are easily worst part of the game. Would be nice if game stopped at Eden and allowed us to explore that city but instead we get to explore Gran Pulse which is literally just a barren wasteland. Also that writer is absolutely wrong. XVI has several hubs and towns you can see even before you finish second prologue.
>about as linear as they were in Final Fantasy 13
oof
Ff13's linearity was far from the main issue with that game
It literally was.
>linearity is.... le bad!!
Classic midwit excuse for disliking a game when you have no valid arguments
in an rpg yes, but I guess this game isn't an rpg
>Linearity is le good!!!
*game is entirely a single hallway*
>open world slops
I am sick of fricking OPEN WORLDS GAMES. GO TO HELL.

>uhh well you see it needs to have a massive empty world to do nothing in because uhh uhh uhh...
dilate in hell
It's very much not ok, even the FF7 remake allows you to control your party.
i only ever did this to stop those morons from dying, i wish i could have just been cloud the whole time
There isn't a million empty rooms like FF2?! THIS GAME SUCKS!
Mainline ff is dead
Imagine being mugged by the xenocuck series
>As linear as XIII
I'm not shitting you I tried playing this game at least three times but every time I fell asleep during the first couple hours.
Really feels like there's a smear campaign against the game because it threatens the eventual "PS5 failed and here's why" articles if a Japanese exclusive sells well.
the game plays itself and youre surprised people dont like it?
>the game plays itself
Imagine lying on the internet

Holy shit, what level of cope is this?
using "cope" has become a meme but this... This is the biggest cope I've ever read lmao
It is okay because the gameplay itself actually works as an action game
>if it's linear it's just a hallway
>If it's open world it's ubishit slop
You guys really never enjoy anything do you?

copedity cope
It is, tho.
That game is kino.
Suck your dick, troon.
It's not even true tho, even if you don't have the game you can check on streams or videos that the areas are more like in ff12, so why lie?
