That's Final Fantasy XIV in 2023. It's rated as the best MMO of all time and one of the best games ever made. I cried about 12 times during the MSQ and many more during the post-EW patches. There's tons to do and endless modding potential. FFXIV is basically the new Second Life and we're all here for it. We all love "plapping" and "gooning" with our toons.

I remember a time I was this invested in the story. That investment came from some jobs being fun as frick to play. When those got "We're balancing healers"'ed I just stopped caring about what was happening and only played the MSQ to do Deep Dungeons with friends.

I'd say your best bet despite everything is to reinstall, make a free trial account, and just mod yourself into a big titty viera (you can't play viera in free trial, but you can always just anamnesis yourself into one).
2D is enhanced by imagination and faces less scrutiny as a result.

You unlock the other areas fairly quickly in the MSQ and you can meet your friend like after an hour of playing and can do the rest of the MSQ together, it's just the first 10-15 levels that are locked to their respective towns and grand companies.
As for servers, it depends on the Data Center that you're on. At least for doing instances and party finder, those parties are cross-server so the physical server itself doesn't matter, plus you can travel to different servers and even Data Centers anyway so it really doesn't matter.
What DC/Server are you on though? Some servers do have certain reputations.
Avoid Crystal datacenter if you are from NA. Aether datacenter is the lesser evil if you can't stand hispanics infesting Primal datacenter. Pick any world you want from the datacenter you decided to join. I don't think there are currently any worlds with a bonus exp in the NA region so pick any with a fancy name you like
Ah right I forgot that is a thing. I hope they'll implement datacenter matchmaking eventually. The same way they added world matchmaking to have people from different worlds play together before DC traveling was a thing

The real filter is no translation at all. You NEED to know at least decent english to even know what your class does. I play on Behemoth and some of the coolest people I've met in XIV are hues.
Okay to be honest the real answer for you on that one is literally any Data Center that isn't Dynamis. On the casual content that 99% of this board does, all of them are literally the same, but Dynamis is literally a shithole housing server with nobody queing for casual content. If you however are into doing higher end content like Savage, or Ultimates, and say want to keep up with retainers or FC buffs while raiding, Aether is the main center these days where literally every other person in other American DCs hop to for Party Finder content. Here's some more info on each DC.
Crystal - My main DC and probably the most talkative of the main 3 choices I'd recommend. The people are nice enough but there's quite a bit of weirdos in places like Mateus,or Balmung's Uldah Quicksand. Most of the weirdos are contained, so honestly for the most part it's a good DC if you want to interact with people. People like to mark it as the most casual DC but to honest, Crystal has a disgustingly good amount of speeds statics and god tier parsers. Another thing to note is that none of that matters in the casual content you're most likely to do, the lower end of every DC is trash at this game, so your experience will be relatively similar unless you pick Dynamis. Queues here in casual content are fine for the most part, no issues even late at night.
Dynamis- It's new, 90% of the playerbase is here for a house and DC hop for raiding, nobody does any content here really so unless you want a good chance of getting a house for things, don't bother here or you're going to take forfricking ever doing any casual queue content. Don't get baited by the bonuses, this place is dead and you'll hate yourself choosing it.
Aether- It's the main hub of the American data centers in general these days. This is the streamer server for the most part, with plenty of people playing content here. I highly recommend this if you want to be part of a very condensed part of the playerbase, the party finder content is full at all times, the cities are crowded, and plenty of people queue for content at all times The community has its head up its own ass however, with plenty of giga shitters, clear buyers and absolute fricking morons who talk a huge game but suck absolute dick at the game, but there's quite a few gems there that make it worth engaging with the community. Great server to choose if you want to keep doing end game content while also keeping up with your FCbuffs and Retainers etc. Avoid Faerie, the weirdos are just as bad as Balmung and Mateus.

said, it is the PERFECT middle ground. Notably you have more Ganker players here than other servers, quite a few good lads on this DC and I've had nothing but positive experiences with the community here. The endgame PF stuff is struggling like Crystal due to Aether being the new hub for all endgame content but it's still a very healthy place to queue for things on and maybe get your feet wet with some endgame content. Honestly though endgame content here was a blast, and I still have good memories doing PF ultimates here, definitely would recommend if you don't mind data hopping to Aether for it's larger PF pool endgame.
TLDR - Every DC but Dynamis is fine for casual content and DC hopping makes server choice kind of pointless past that. I get the annoyance but legit everyone cheats in PVP, and nothing is going to be improved. We had outright proof in Crystal with that giga gay Bill Murray was speed hacking and square did nothing about it, the cliques and cheaters need to be thrown into the sun.

I hope you didn't want to play a conjurer, lancer, or archer because Gridania is boring as frick. Limsa and Ul'dah are more exciting as far as starting areas go, I'd recommend Ul'dah honestly. You'll just have to start out as a thaumaturge, pugilist, or gladiator.

To be fair PUP could do something like dots but in a different way. Like you know those magitek enemies that will like open up and spark a round aoe that inflicts paralysis around them? you could drop mamments and direct them to stand somewhere to give off aoe damage and the player skills are issueing commands to stuff like an aoe stun that acts like holy on WHM.

That's not why, there is nothing technically wrong with dots in the game, the problem comes from the pisspoor way the devs have been handling them and that the games current design philosophy clashes with the concept of dots so hard that they become almost unusable.
Same shit happened with ARC/SMN/SCH pets, the devs did a pisspoor job at putting them in the game and instead of remaking them from the ground up they just said
"frick it, people keep complaining about them so we might as well remove/lobotomies them"

They can, just the fight design and burst/buff meta doesn't play nicely with them. They haven't figured out how to balance DoTs around fights with downtime.

- full rework
- simple proc-based rotation like DNC/BRD
WHM already feels perfect to play, it's powerful and accessible. All relevant content is played with 1 shield and 1 pure healer. There's a tiny minority of coordinated statics who run 2x shielders but they're not worth designing around.
there is literally nothing wrong with SAGE not being able to shit out WHM tier aoe healing on demand, and scholar has an excellent if somewhat obtuse toolkit.

Good thing I don't want it to be able to do that and never said it should. Pankardia would be like an AoE regen akin to Physis, and adding Eukrasian versions of the other DPS buttons is a way to add more variety to the DPS gameplay without adding extra buttons. They could adjust cast/charge time or refund an Addersting or something.
I think people simply dont understand how to play Sage. A bad Sage is constantly going "W-WAIT, WHY IS THEIR HEALTH SUDDENLY SO LOW!?" and playing whack a mole. Meanwhile a good Sage is timing their shields and party buffs to coincide with heavy hits to mitigate damage rather than constantly be spinning plates trying to recover from it.
WHM offers nothing in a progression environment besides high DPS that scales better the more downtime the fight has. You're actually better off progging with double barrier healers but people are allergic to idea since GCD shields don't stack despite the fact that everything that's actually useful does. Stacking Kera and Soil is busted as frick.

No. I was surprised they didn't remove Ruin II but I'm glad they didn't since it makes Scholar the most mobile healer at the cost of some potency. Makes it a hell of a lot more comfortable to prog with since you can still contribute without have to greed hard for uptime. If you remove Ruin II, make AoW higher base potency with a significant drop off. Since boss hitboxes are so big now it would functionally have the same end result without stripping it of a nice utility.

Why? Fey Union's mechanics make it the most flexible HoT in the game since it's the only one in which you have full agency over its duration and it functionally has no cooldown. If you don't use it, that's on you. It would make more sense to have more gauge spenders
Fairy Gauge just feels vestigial since it doesn't interact with anything else. Union is really strong but the job would feel more coherent if all fairy stuff interacted with the gauge instead of just one move. With the current design it feels more like "Oh this job needs a gauge, what can we add?"
As much as I hate to say it, it feels like it would make more sense to retool Energy Drain and/or Dissipation into gauge spenders, but I don't really like either idea since it would just further reinforce the idea that Fey Union is useless. The bottom line is I don't really want to get rid of it since I like the unique utility Fey Union provides.

There are use cases for it. I've seen clutch last second heals on Program Loop with Cure and Physick. The fact you haven't seen these scenarios doesn't mean they don't exist.
Regardless, I can count the amount of times I had to Physick for Program Loop while progging TOP on one hand and it's never happen nowadays since Sacred Soil covers the towers now.
Not that anon but those clutch plays are so far and few in between that it's hard to even recommend having them on your bar outside of some really off place on your keyboard. I do remember having those though as a SCH when I was healing with my static leads moronic girlfriend during TEA in SHB and they do feel pretty good but man your team has to be REALLY struggling for something like that to ever pay off usually.
cure II. Cure I is better than most people think, and for longer (its key if your tank is mass pulling before level 54 or so, because spamming Cure II will make you go oom), but after 54 there is no reason to cast it again.
Swiftcast Cure II, or spend a Lily, or Tetra, or Bene
It's not worth keeping Cure around for these vanishingly rare scenarios that happen on some pulls when it's also a noob trap that teaches every new healer to play the game incorrectly.

Anyway WHM should also have Lily skills before lv50, it's moronic that it doesn't get its core gameplay concepts until 60-70. Same with PLD that has no magic until like lv74 or something.
AST was great fun in Heavensward but because idiots couldn't understand how to play it compared to WHM spamming cure II and SCH spamming Adloquian or whatever to put up a shield and afk till it fell off the amount of AST was far lower so they made it bland as frick in Stormblood and worse in Shadowbringers.
At this point SCH feels closer to HALF of AST back in HW.
I mean fair but I don't think that warrants making it worse. If anything they need to stop adjusting based on how many people play classes. Just let WHM be the moron containment healer.
The best thing FFXI did was understand some things are niche. The puppet master autist plays for the aesthetic. It could be the lowest dps in the world and they would still play it. If there were 100 PUP enjoyers, hes one of them. If there were 1 PUP enjoyer its him. You dont need to ruin it for him because more people prefer playing Dragoon.
RDM enjoyer here. I don't give two shits if my dps is lower. i feel the good brainfeels doing my big combo, or putting a shield on the party before a big aoe, or rezzing both idiot healers then doing a doublecast vercure on them to assert ver dominance, or blinding the alliance raids with my lb3.
Not to be the best, not to be more powerful than others, but because i am a dandy mage that fights with a rapier. Even if nobody else played it i still would. If they changed it to get more summoners or black mages to play it i wouldn't be happier and thats what devs need to remember. You cannot balance classes, trying is an exercise in just making something worse for some portion of the audience.
Thing is, for many others, a class feeling good means it parsing well, or having cooldowns that line up nicely with boss phases. Different players want different things out of the classes, and companies typically see the idiots who moan the loudest, not the one guy who's happy no matter what. Do you design your stuff around the loud minority, or the guy who is literally invisible?

Controller play is more than viable, I've done the hardest content in the game currently with plenty of controller players and they work just as fine for the most part, just gotta get used to it.
Yes i've played exclusively on playstation since Heavensward. You just hold a left or right trigger to make the dpad and face buttons buttons 1-8 or 9-16. I have left trigger for dps with dpad for aoe and face buttons for single target and right trigger with d pad for debuffs and face buttons for cooldowns.
I just have one question for the anons who give a shit: how do they walk back this fricking ridiculous escalation of stakes with the 12 and Golbez and return to a more manageable story without fricking it up? What happens if they don't deescalate after we get a dumbfrick cutscene of Zero going "you, stay. i, go." as she c**tpunches Golbez's gigagalactic form and shatters reality as we look on helplessly from the surface of Hydaelyn?
They're gonna pull a last minute moron tier hand wave over the story, the world is going to be balanced with light and then it'll be like nothing happened. The entire post patch is just filler trash until we do next expac, kind of why I think EW outside of the ultimates and good final savage tier is kinda shitty expac wise.
This hurts because I honestly have trouble imagining anything other than handwavium. Massively disappointed by this expac as well though, I knew Shadowbringers was going to be a hard act to follow but I never could have imagined.

Yeah man, I'm pretty disappointed in how the post patches turned out. Granted I think 5.3 is the hardest act to follow, Seat of Sacrifice was like Elder god tier, and the story was great. This post patch honestly just reminds me of ARR, it's filler trash through and through.
If you haven't done the raid story yet, it's serviceable enough, I think the Athena content honestly feels better in Savage though, even if her form is cool, the 2nd form showing how much the heart of sabik corrupts her is really cool, easily better than the gay crystals from the SHB raid story even if SHB had some great raid tiers.
At this point I expect nothing but underwhelming resolutions that don't live up to how much they've set this up as a potential calamity and instead we'll just get it done by stopping Golbez and healing Azdaja, go back to work, and do more normal stuff in 7.0.
Sad thing is that this is my best case scenario currently, worse still I'd take it just to get out of fricking deityland and back to adventuring.

I'd agree that going political would be the best route... if the expansion were being written by any other company. A political FFXIV story would more than likely be very black and white, cartoonishly evil villains, and a children's book tier ending where everyone holds hands and sings kumbaya. Remember when Aymeric unified all of Ishgard to their new direction with one rousing speech in 3.3? It'd be like that, only worse. They have to sell this game in China and America, after all. I wish for a low-key political story since I do like the setting, but I recognize it for the monkey's paw that it is.

Honestly the raids felt more like the actual conclusion to EW and the patch content just feels like a weird filler arc to give us something to do while they finish writing 7.0.
They did say they had the trial series taking the place of the MSQ since the expansion story ended in 6.0, but I don't think anyone was expecting how literal that was. Everyone thought at least there'd be some lead in to the MSQ, but it genuinely seems to just be something to kill time before we get started with the actual story.
Imagine it ends at Zodiark. The credits roll, the worlds saved and fandaniels dead, right?
Then the scratchy echo happens and the wol hears metion go "hahah.... at least, i've found you". The Final Days are here.
Then you spend the year of patch content fighting blasphemies all across the world, the fabric of the star has begun to fray. Ending in 6.3 where you must descend into the lifestream to fight Hydaelyn. The stage is set for the grand finale. In the final patch you take on the Endsinger and end the final days.
The 6.55 patch drops. They are disbanding the Scions of the Seventh dawn, the last Metion flys over the Crystal Tower and a new day dawns. The End.

Yoshi-P was teasing as far back as HW that 7.0 would be the moon. What's more likely is that 6.0 was supposed to be the Garlemald expansion and the climax would be 7.0, meaning you'd "finish" the game at level 100. But I guess upper management got in the way.

i liked the garlemald arc in EW, much better than the pajeets. Snow biomes are always comfy, and there was a lot of spooky moments like hearing that radio playing that melacholy song on repeat or the deserted bases or those survivors who suicide by WoL.

People make lowering the stakes a lot more complex than it is.
Just look at how EW had you being shit talked by a no name lala at the start, and you couldn't fight back because you simply couldn't slaughter the whole island.
The whole part with última and the blight should have been the problem the ancients were facing during the final days. Did they scrap that plot from endwalker and used it with ff16 instead?
They technically have Ultima and corruption from the Heart of Sabik as an issue in the EW raid series. The savage variant pretty much has Athena becoming a giga snake mom because of the Heart of Sabik empowering her, she even rips off quotes and skills from the Alliance Raid dealing with Ultima.
Yea rule of thumb is that you need to ride the wave, My pf alt was done the first three fights in week 1, and then took another week or so to beat 12, after that people got worse and worse, plenty of liars but there's some good souls out there.

Not sure if they would, the Zorn and Thorn reference girls in Eulmore probably would have fit better as Red and Blue Mages but the blue one got cucked and was mechanically a Rogue
Samurai featured extensively in Stormblood and Thavnair does have one or two Dancers around (there's one in the bar and restaurant in Radz-at-Han wearing Shadowbringers AF), there's a grounds in the zone with the Great Work that's dedicated to Dancer too

I really hope you're right and they focus the full expansion on one region. My biggest fear is that they just shotgun all the areas Emet mentioned with one map for each, and we don't get to see any depth to them.
The way he talks about Meracydia and puts emphasis on it really suggests it has some importance shit like the bounty and blindfrost dont.
Like he doesn't just go "go check it out lmao" but specifically says "....what about....Meracydia? do you know aught of its current state of affairs?".
That implies shit is going down NOW. And he's been watching events from the lifestream for months at this point. He knows shit we simply don't yet and he implies its events happening now, now tourism shit going nowhere.
I don't particularly give a shit about Garlemald, but I think having a Garle expansion would have given the Metion arc more time to breathe and a bigger pay off. I don't know why they decided to compress the two together (likely a combination of covid development and struggling to stretch out Garlemald without it feeling padded), but it feels like a bit of a waste.
I wish they did have the 6.0 / 7.0 split. I think spending more time on the Lunar Primals and dealing with the towers could have been used for the first 2 zones, Thavnair and a new one, maybe another beast tribe, similar to the lizard dungeon in 5.5 but expanded into a zone which also helps to cement treating them as tribes over beasts, another pay off in 7.0. The level 83 trial would be the Lunar Magnus Sisters. Once that's done with, setting the stage for the Garlemald invasion proper. 2 zones on the outskirts of Garlemald where you get a hint of the state of affairs at the capital but not more than that, and maybe have the story deal with some of the defeated sides to the Civil War. Have some politics, will they help/betray/ignore the Eorzean army. Finally you see the Garlemald Capital for the first time and see how truly fricked it is, after getting hints and built up of how awful Zenos's reign has been. I think Endwalker did Garlemald and the tower pretty damn well, so I think I'd keep most of the story beats the same.
The only difference I'd have would be the Tower being the dungeon, and Anima being the level 89 trial, leading finally into the "secret" zone ala Amourot. The Moon. Visit the moon, meet with the Watcher, and find Fanny Danny fricking with the brands. I'd have it 3 brands survived, and string those out into the final dungeon. You're chasing him and Zenos around the moon trying to prevent him from unleash Zodiark and failing, of course. Zenos is the final boss of the dungeon and get betrayed by Fandanial so he can make a sprint to Zodiark. 1/3
Final trial's EL ROTATOR, and you get that final sting of the expansion being the Meteion voice. I wouldn't start the Final Days striaght away, 6.1 would be introducing the moon buns, where you'd start getting information on it. 6.2 would be the start of things going to shit and it'd get increasingly desperate through 6.2 to 6.5. You'd learn through the buns of Sharlayan's involvement in preparing for the end, and along with dealing with the Blasphemies you'd work on getting access to the isle. Frick knows what the trials and raids would be. Magus Sisters EX/Anima EX/ Zodiark EX and 4 more. Garlemald might as well be some secret science bullshit like the underwater research lab in 8, the underwater sub in 7 and Draclor Labs from 12.
Finally 7.0 would be dealing with Sharalayan and Elpis, and have a max level of 99 instead of 100 to be more FF. Sharalayan gets another 2 zones along with Labyrinthos, maybe expand the Isle of Hamm into a full zone. The level 92/93 trial would be Valigarmanda from FFIV, as a super-aethered charged animal threatening to break out from the Isle and add to the world's destruction. Primarily you'd be butting heads with the Forum over following their plan of an Ark and running away or the Scions determined to find another way, you'd begin to make headway after the 93 trial showing the Forum their tactics aren't as thought through as they think, and you'd get hints along the way via the Elpis flowers in Labyrinthos and Hamm. It'd move into bringing the alchemists of Radz-at-Han and the Ironworks in to research furiously, making progress on the nature of Dynamis and the plan to use the Crystal Tower to go back in time to find out more. You'd get another ancient zone, a more average look at their world and Elpis itself. I'd also reverse the order you meet Selch/Hyth and Venat. 2/3
You'd bump into Venat first in the new zone and buddy along, but she wouldn't say anything about her charm just yet, wanting to see what your personality is/how you deal with things before the pair of you head into Elpis. This'd give a little more time to spend with Venat to flesh out her convictions a little more since she was just bumming around helping people when she noticed your wisp. Elpis again I wouldn't change too much, along with most of the story all the way through to Ultima Thule. Hyde would still be the 97/98 trial (adjust for only going to 99). You get the better payoff from the beast tribes coming to help since you were diving into towers in their homeland, summoning true primals to use the mothercrystal as fuel. Ultima Thule was fantastic in my opinion, it doesn't need any changes, final dungeon included. You'd get little flashes of Zenos over the expansion thinking over his approach from the previous expansion, traveling the land and dealing with final days shit as he gives your way of live a go for once, ending with him approaching Krile to come help you out and get his final showdown.
Meteion is still the final boss, and you'd get mostly the same thing. Prayers into the shield to protect you from the second Oblivion, but you'd get one final boom. A mega fricking big flash of light, the level up jingle mixed into the background music and you'd temporarily break your limits. Do the impossible, for the final stretch of the fight due to the massive amounts of Dynamis around and the hopes of a world on your shoulders, you'd reach level 100. Then you'd kick the shit out of Meteion in your level 100 super saiyan mode (maybe each move gets a flashier particle effect or something) and roll into the Zenos 1v1. Roll credits, bird flies, thanks for playing Warrior of Light!
As it stands Endwalker does the job alright enough, but you can kinda tell it had some development problems. Thanks for reading my autism. 3/3
Sounded fun. I honestly think EW would have been better initially if Fandingo had been given a different body than Asahi's and the story hadn't spent so much time on him pre-Elpis. I didn't really care that he killed himself, I didn't care for the theme of nihilism from fandaniel, we'd already had our fill of that from Zenos in SB who only gave a shit about The Hunt ™ and Zenos again in SHB when he killed his dad for being a pussy. And, the Amon stuff felt poorly written. Hermes was unlikable, but he felt more thought out than Fandingo.

It's effectively the same once you get passed the launcher, but you have to deal with Steam's bullshit sometimes when starting the launcher up.
If you're Brazilian or Russian, get it on Steam, the monthly sub is much cheaper through Steam thanks to regional pricing
If you're neither of those, get it through Squeenix
Besides the Steam version locking you permanently to Steam, there is no difference between the two games
I got all FF games on Steam and bought FFXIV there too, but I regret it. You always need to use Steam, which is no big deal right now since it provides extra security. In the future, it might be an additional point of failure. I doubt Steam will go down before SE though, so it might not be a big deal. Still, wish I got it through SE.

I do like FFXI and XIV's commitment to the beastmen being so impossibly "other" that even furries and monster-humpers struggle to find anything immediately attractive. The only ones I've really seen any takers for are Amaljaa and they're still super niche, with some limited lovers of the much much safer Nu Mou (which already existed since Tactics Advance) and Pixies.

The only person Hrothgar were meant to appeal to was YoshiP. The team has EXPLICITLY said that they knew they would be an unpopular/under-played race, but YoshiP wanted more visual variety in the races and he thought bestial monster-mash men like that are kind of a staple of fantasy, especially MMOs. I mean, considering he's playing stuff like DAoC and WoW, that's totally fair.
It wasn't meant to appeal to furries. Or anybody. They have Miqo'te, Viera, and Au Ra as the obvious mass-market appeal races, so the others don't have to have wide appeal, they can just be fun things the team wanted to make.
I wish he'd have thought better of it and kept to their own human-y theming of the races, I was actually heavily considering moving over to Hrothgar from Roegadyn when the French localization leaked their existence and they were described as burly, tall men with manes. You unlock the other areas fairly quickly in the MSQ and you can meet your friend like after an hour of playing and can do the rest of the MSQ together, it's just the first 10-15 levels that are locked to their respective towns and grand companies.
As for servers, it depends on the Data Center that you're on. At least for doing instances and party finder, those parties are cross-server so the physical server itself doesn't matter, plus you can travel to different servers and even Data Centers anyway so it really doesn't matter.
What DC/Server are you on though? Some servers do have certain reputations.
Avoid Crystal datacenter if you are from NA. Aether datacenter is the lesser evil if you can't stand hispanics infesting Primal datacenter. Pick any world you want from the datacenter you decided to join. I don't think there are currently any worlds with a bonus exp in the NA region so pick any with a fancy name you like
Dynamis is a new DC with the xp bonus, but you need to DC travel to do anything since that's what everyone does.
Ah right I forgot that is a thing. I hope they'll implement datacenter matchmaking eventually. The same way they added world matchmaking to have people from different worlds play together before DC traveling was a thing

Crystal is actually terrible at the game. It's the de facto RP DC and no one gives a shit about playing properly. If you want to ERP with men and be suffocated with drama it's the place for you. If you have any aspirations of playing the game past MSQ (the barest of minimums) then avoid this at all costs
Dynamis is new. If it's anything like other servers, it's probably dead and closer to Crystal than not. I wouldn't stay on it long term. XP bonus is kind of a meme, you get a metric frickton of XP from MSQ, but you do you

People have already given you pretty good explanations but I've played on all 3 NA DCs and personally I'd recommend Primal. It's the perfect middle ground between tryhard and casual, it's where you're most likely to find chill people on both sides on the spectrum. Just avoid Behemoth I guess since that's the unnofficial brazilian world for some reason, they're not the usual brazilians and most can speak english well but still, no real reason to go there if you're not brazilian.

The real filter is no translation at all. You NEED to know at least decent english to even know what your class does. I play on Behemoth and some of the coolest people I've met in XIV are hues.
Okay to be honest the real answer for you on that one is literally any Data Center that isn't Dynamis. On the casual content that 99% of this board does, all of them are literally the same, but Dynamis is literally a shithole housing server with nobody queing for casual content. If you however are into doing higher end content like Savage, or Ultimates, and say want to keep up with retainers or FC buffs while raiding, Aether is the main center these days where literally every other person in other American DCs hop to for Party Finder content. Here's some more info on each DC.
Crystal - My main DC and probably the most talkative of the main 3 choices I'd recommend. The people are nice enough but there's quite a bit of weirdos in places like Mateus,or Balmung's Uldah Quicksand. Most of the weirdos are contained, so honestly for the most part it's a good DC if you want to interact with people. People like to mark it as the most casual DC but to honest, Crystal has a disgustingly good amount of speeds statics and god tier parsers. Another thing to note is that none of that matters in the casual content you're most likely to do, the lower end of every DC is trash at this game, so your experience will be relatively similar unless you pick Dynamis. Queues here in casual content are fine for the most part, no issues even late at night.
Dynamis- It's new, 90% of the playerbase is here for a house and DC hop for raiding, nobody does any content here really so unless you want a good chance of getting a house for things, don't bother here or you're going to take forfricking ever doing any casual queue content. Don't get baited by the bonuses, this place is dead and you'll hate yourself choosing it.

Aether- It's the main hub of the American data centers in general these days. This is the streamer server for the most part, with plenty of people playing content here. I highly recommend this if you want to be part of a very condensed part of the playerbase, the party finder content is full at all times, the cities are crowded, and plenty of people queue for content at all times The community has its head up its own ass however, with plenty of giga shitters, clear buyers and absolute fricking morons who talk a huge game but suck absolute dick at the game, but there's quite a few gems there that make it worth engaging with the community. Great server to choose if you want to keep doing end game content while also keeping up with your FCbuffs and Retainers etc. Avoid Faerie, the weirdos are just as bad as Balmung and Mateus.
Primal- My personal favorite, and like
said, it is the PERFECT middle ground. Notably you have more Ganker players here than other servers, quite a few good lads on this DC and I've had nothing but positive experiences with the community here. The endgame PF stuff is struggling like Crystal due to Aether being the new hub for all endgame content but it's still a very healthy place to queue for things on and maybe get your feet wet with some endgame content. Honestly though endgame content here was a blast, and I still have good memories doing PF ultimates here, definitely would recommend if you don't mind data hopping to Aether for it's larger PF pool endgame.
TLDR - Every DC but Dynamis is fine for casual content and DC hopping makes server choice kind of pointless past that. Aether is good for the heavy amount of people if you're willing to just ignore some morons, Primal is a great middle ground with some really chill people, Crystal has friendly players and has some of the best players in the world mingling with casuals but if RP isn't your jam legit just don't go to Mateus or Balmung.

I know nobody really cares but there is one huge negative in primal. The PvP clique cheats harder than any other NA DC.
I get the annoyance but legit everyone cheats in PVP, and nothing is going to be improved. We had outright proof in Crystal with that giga gay Bill Murray was speed hacking and square did nothing about it, the cliques and cheaters need to be thrown into the sun.

I hope you didn't want to play a conjurer, lancer, or archer because Gridania is boring as frick. Limsa and Ul'dah are more exciting as far as starting areas go, I'd recommend Ul'dah honestly. You'll just have to start out as a thaumaturge, pugilist, or gladiator.
Years and years ago I wanted to be a Dragoon, but I had to be a lancer first, and within 4-5 hours in Gridania I was so bored, I quit the character and went to Ul'dah and ended up getting all the way to level 40 or some shit on that character.

Like you know those magitek enemies that will like open up and spark a round aoe that inflicts paralysis around them? you could drop mamments and direct them to stand somewhere to give off aoe damage and the player skills are issueing commands to stuff like an aoe stun that acts like holy on WHM.

That's not why, there is nothing technically wrong with dots in the game, the problem comes from the pisspoor way the devs have been handling them and that the games current design philosophy clashes with the concept of dots so hard that they become almost unusable.

WHM already feels perfect to play, it's powerful and accessible. All relevant content is played with 1 shield and 1 pure healer. There's a tiny minority of coordinated statics who run 2x shielders but they're not worth designing around.

Good thing I don't want it to be able to do that and never said it should. Pankardia would be like an AoE regen akin to Physis, and adding Eukrasian versions of the other DPS buttons is a way to add more variety to the DPS gameplay without adding extra buttons. They could adjust cast/charge time or refund an Addersting or something.
I think people simply dont understand how to play Sage. A bad Sage is constantly going "W-WAIT, WHY IS THEIR HEALTH SUDDENLY SO LOW!?" and playing whack a mole. Meanwhile a good Sage is timing their shields and party buffs to coincide with heavy hits to mitigate damage rather than constantly be spinning plates trying to recover from it.
WHM offers nothing in a progression environment besides high DPS that scales better the more downtime the fight has. You're actually better off progging with double barrier healers but people are allergic to idea since GCD shields don't stack despite the fact that everything that's actually useful does. Stacking Kera and Soil is busted as frick.

No. I was surprised they didn't remove Ruin II but I'm glad they didn't since it makes Scholar the most mobile healer at the cost of some potency. Makes it a hell of a lot more comfortable to prog with since you can still contribute without have to greed hard for uptime. If you remove Ruin II, make AoW higher base potency with a significant drop off. Since boss hitboxes are so big now it would functionally have the same end result without stripping it of a nice utility.

Why? Fey Union's mechanics make it the most flexible HoT in the game since it's the only one in which you have full agency over its duration and it functionally has no cooldown. If you don't use it, that's on you. It would make more sense to have more gauge spenders
Fairy Gauge just feels vestigial since it doesn't interact with anything else. Union is really strong but the job would feel more coherent if all fairy stuff interacted with the gauge instead of just one move. With the current design it feels more like "Oh this job needs a gauge, what can we add?"
As much as I hate to say it, it feels like it would make more sense to retool Energy Drain and/or Dissipation into gauge spenders, but I don't really like either idea since it would just further reinforce the idea that Fey Union is useless. The bottom line is I don't really want to get rid of it since I like the unique utility Fey Union provides.

There are use cases for it. I've seen clutch last second heals on Program Loop with Cure and Physick. The fact you haven't seen these scenarios doesn't mean they don't exist.

Regardless, I can count the amount of times I had to Physick for Program Loop while progging TOP on one hand and it's never happen nowadays since Sacred Soil covers the towers now.
Cure has a lower cast time like Physick compared to Adloq. It's true that now you can just cover the entire arena with a HoT though.
Not that anon but those clutch plays are so far and few in between that it's hard to even recommend having them on your bar outside of some really off place on your keyboard. I do remember having those though as a SCH when I was healing with my static leads moronic girlfriend during TEA in SHB and they do feel pretty good but man your team has to be REALLY struggling for something like that to ever pay off usually.
cure II. Cure I is better than most people think, and for longer (its key if your tank is mass pulling before level 54 or so, because spamming Cure II will make you go oom), but after 54 there is no reason to cast it again.

If they changed it to get more summoners or black mages to play it i wouldn't be happier and thats what devs need to remember. Thing is, for many others, a class feeling good means it parsing well, or having cooldowns that line up nicely with boss phases. Different players want different things out of the classes, and companies typically see the idiots who moan the loudest, not the one guy who's happy no matter what. Yes i've played exclusively on playstation since Heavensward. You just hold a left or right trigger to make the dpad and face buttons buttons 1-8 or 9-16. I have left trigger for dps with dpad for aoe and face buttons for single target and right trigger with d pad for debuffs and face buttons for cooldowns.

If you haven't done the raid story yet, it's serviceable enough, I think the Athena content honestly feels better in Savage though, even if her form is cool, the 2nd form showing how much the heart of sabik corrupts her is really cool, easily better than the gay crystals from the SHB raid story even if SHB had some great raid tiers.

Honestly the raids felt more like the actual conclusion to EW and the patch content just feels like a weird filler arc to give us something to do while they finish writing 7.0.
They did say they had the trial series taking the place of the MSQ since the expansion story ended in 6.0, but I don't think anyone was expecting how literal that was. Everyone thought at least there'd be some lead in to the MSQ, but it genuinely seems to just be something to kill time before we get started with the actual story.
Ending Endwalker in 6.0 was a mistake.
Imagine it ends at Zodiark. The credits roll, the worlds saved and fandaniels dead, right?
Then the scratchy echo happens and the wol hears metion go "hahah.... at least, i've found you". The Final Days are here.
Then you spend the year of patch content fighting blasphemies all across the world, the fabric of the star has begun to fray. Ending in 6.3 where you must descend into the lifestream to fight Hydaelyn. The stage is set for the grand finale. In the final patch you take on the Endsinger and end the final days.
The 6.55 patch drops. They are disbanding the Scions of the Seventh dawn, the last Metion flys over the Crystal Tower and a new day dawns. The End.
I'm pretty sure they intended for EW to be two expansions originally but realized having Zenos and Fandaniel's cartoon villainy taking up the whole expansion was a turn off for a lot of people. Probably for the best, but it does feel weirdly paced.
Yoshi-P was teasing as far back as HW that 7.0 would be the moon. What's more likely is that 6.0 was supposed to be the Garlemald expansion and the climax would be 7.0, meaning you'd "finish" the game at level 100. But I guess upper management got in the way.

i liked the garlemald arc in EW, much better than the pajeets. Snow biomes are always comfy, and there was a lot of spooky moments like hearing that radio playing that melacholy song on repeat or the deserted bases or those survivors who suicide by WoL.

They technically have Ultima and corruption from the Heart of Sabik as an issue in the EW raid series. The savage variant pretty much has Athena becoming a giga snake mom because of the Heart of Sabik empowering her, she even rips off quotes and skills from the Alliance Raid dealing with Ultima.

I really hope you're right and they focus the full expansion on one region. My biggest fear is that they just shotgun all the areas Emet mentioned with one map for each, and we don't get to see any depth to them.
The way he talks about Meracydia and puts emphasis on it really suggests it has some importance shit like the bounty and blindfrost dont.
Like he doesn't just go "go check it out lmao" but specifically says "....what about....Meracydia? do you know aught of its current state of affairs?".
That implies shit is going down NOW. And he's been watching events from the lifestream for months at this point. He knows shit we simply don't yet and he implies its events happening now, now tourism shit going nowhere.
I don't particularly give a shit about Garlemald, but I think having a Garle expansion would have given the Metion arc more time to breathe and a bigger pay off. I don't know why they decided to compress the two together (likely a combination of covid development and struggling to stretch out Garlemald without it feeling padded), but it feels like a bit of a waste.
I wish they did have the 6.0 / 7.0 split. I think spending more time on the Lunar Primals and dealing with the towers could have been used for the first 2 zones, Thavnair and a new one, maybe another beast tribe, similar to the lizard dungeon in 5.5 but expanded into a zone which also helps to cement treating them as tribes over beasts, another pay off in 7.0. The level 83 trial would be the Lunar Magnus Sisters. Once that's done with, setting the stage for the Garlemald invasion proper. 2 zones on the outskirts of Garlemald where you get a hint of the state of affairs at the capital but not more than that, and maybe have the story deal with some of the defeated sides to the Civil War. Have some politics, will they help/betray/ignore the Eorzean army. Finally you see the Garlemald Capital for the first time and see how truly fricked it is, after getting hints and built up of how awful Zenos's reign has been. I think Endwalker did Garlemald and the tower pretty damn well, so I think I'd keep most of the story beats the same.
The only difference I'd have would be the Tower being the dungeon, and Anima being the level 89 trial, leading finally into the "secret" zone ala Amourot. The Moon. Visit the moon, meet with the Watcher, and find Fanny Danny fricking with the brands. I'd have it 3 brands survived, and string those out into the final dungeon. You're chasing him and Zenos around the moon trying to prevent him from unleash Zodiark and failing, of course. Zenos is the final boss of the dungeon and get betrayed by Fandanial so he can make a sprint to Zodiark. 1/3
Final trial's EL ROTATOR, and you get that final sting of the expansion being the Meteion voice. I wouldn't start the Final Days striaght away, 6.1 would be introducing the moon buns, where you'd start getting information on it. 6.2 would be the start of things going to shit and it'd get increasingly desperate through 6.2 to 6.5. You'd learn through the buns of Sharlayan's involvement in preparing for the end, and along with dealing with the Blasphemies you'd work on getting access to the isle. Frick knows what the trials and raids would be. Magus Sisters EX/Anima EX/ Zodiark EX and 4 more. Garlemald might as well be some secret science bullshit like the underwater research lab in 8, the underwater sub in 7 and Draclor Labs from 12.
Finally 7.0 would be dealing with Sharalayan and Elpis, and have a max level of 99 instead of 100 to be more FF. Sharalayan gets another 2 zones along with Labyrinthos, maybe expand the Isle of Hamm into a full zone. The level 92/93 trial would be Valigarmanda from FFIV, as a super-aethered charged animal threatening to break out from the Isle and add to the world's destruction. Primarily you'd be butting heads with the Forum over following their plan of an Ark and running away or the Scions determined to find another way, you'd begin to make headway after the 93 trial showing the Forum their tactics aren't as thought through as they think, and you'd get hints along the way via the Elpis flowers in Labyrinthos and Hamm. It'd move into bringing the alchemists of Radz-at-Han and the Ironworks in to research furiously, making progress on the nature of Dynamis and the plan to use the Crystal Tower to go back in time to find out more. You'd get another ancient zone, a more average look at their world and Elpis itself. I'd also reverse the order you meet Selch/Hyth and Venat. 2/3
You'd bump into Venat first in the new zone and buddy along, but she wouldn't say anything about her charm just yet, wanting to see what your personality is/how you deal with things before the pair of you head into Elpis. This'd give a little more time to spend with Venat to flesh out her convictions a little more since she was just bumming around helping people when she noticed your wisp. Elpis again I wouldn't change too much, along with most of the story all the way through to Ultima Thule. Hyde would still be the 97/98 trial (adjust for only going to 99). You get the better payoff from the beast tribes coming to help since you were diving into towers in their homeland, summoning true primals to use the mothercrystal as fuel. Ultima Thule was fantastic in my opinion, it doesn't need any changes, final dungeon included. You'd get little flashes of Zenos over the expansion thinking over his approach from the previous expansion, traveling the land and dealing with final days shit as he gives your way of live a go for once, ending with him approaching Krile to come help you out and get his final showdown.
Meteion is still the final boss, and you'd get mostly the same thing. Prayers into the shield to protect you from the second Oblivion, but you'd get one final boom. A mega fricking big flash of light, the level up jingle mixed into the background music and you'd temporarily break your limits. The only person Hrothgar were meant to appeal to was YoshiP. The team has EXPLICITLY said that they knew they would be an unpopular/under-played race, but YoshiP wanted more visual variety in the races and he thought bestial monster-mash men like that are kind of a staple of fantasy, especially MMOs. I mean, considering he's playing stuff like DAoC and WoW, that's totally fair.
It wasn't meant to appeal to furries. Or anybody. They have Miqo'te, Viera, and Au Ra as the obvious mass-market appeal races, so the others don't have to have wide appeal, they can just be fun things the team wanted to make.

Reintroducing job quests. Role quests are okay and all but each job has its own story and it's a fricking bummer that they got ignored in Endwalker besides the "everyone is here" moment.

Why the frick can't I glamour gear cross-class?
It's not for class readability, since everyone can run around in bikinis and the few all-class variant sets.
Artifact armors are too special
Gear theming is slip-shod, but present, people complain all the time about Maiming gear being tank armor with sashes or butt-capes and Healing gear being white/red for White Mage
Oh and as for crafter/gatherer gear I have NO FRICKING CLUE why they class-locked those after Heavensward
It's because crafter/gatherer gear also has item level and it'd be total dogshit if you could pass item level checks with it as a combat class.
Why would item level matter if you're just using it to glamour onto shit and not wear? Or am I missing something?

Set a flag on Artifact gear to make it only for the class, but shit that drops from raids and dungeons should be fine

Have non artifact armor be applicable to all class. It'll kill those complaints. Tank armor has been sucking wiener for a while and all we get is ALWAYS FRICKING CIRCLET
