I've been playing for 4 hours and I love it. They replaced the lowres cutscenes with assume ones, which was a let down given how kino the art is. But they added more shrines and made combat less reliant on parrying and more on versatility and movement. 10/10 so far

I love the first game but the balance in terms of damaging enemies was awful, especially in True Torment. The first four slashes of your combo didn't matter, only the final hit and even then, normal attacks took ages to kill. Meanwhile, you could Righteous Riposte and two shot most enemies. It made combat extremely boring since there was only one meaningful way of dealing with most of the game and it trivialized things once you got used to it.
Having your normal attacks actually matter and not have every fight solved by a parry is a huge improvement.

That anon here, you should. The DLC bosses are fuggin great and True Torment genuinely mixes the game up in a lot of really fun ways with the different Penitences. The Beads you unlock are also lots of fun.
With the sequel here it may be moot, but I really do love the DLC and whatnot, even if everything I said about the moment to moment combat is true.

Parry systems that don't provide significant damage to the enemy but instead incapacitate them are the best. Literally in Blasphemous 1 and Sekiro your normal attacks don't matter. In Blasphemous you get a critical that can 1hk or near close any normal enemy. In Sekiro any half decent pkayer will deathblow any opponent before draining its hp to under 70% for the health malus to kick in.
Moonscars did it masterfully. Parry does a strong attack while giving iframes, serving as crowd control but rarely nuking any decent opponent, so you are engaging a lot more with magic, attacks and movement too

When did this board become full of conservative soccer moms? I think the bosses don't have much wow factor since most of them appear to be regular sized humans (neat looking humans, but still) and the few weirder ones aren't all that menacing or large as the ones in the first game besides the final boss, but the gameplay is much better so it's a tradeoff. Alot of the npcs are still cool though, I like the merchant lady who is literally just a giant arm.
The more painterly stills in the new cutscenes are pretty good, I think they represent the games renaissance-style better than the animations.
