There were a lot of bullshit games on the Wii, and even more bullshit games on the Virtual Console, that went unanswered for years. If you had one, the only reasonable alternative was to own both a DS and a Wii to get a healthy amount of games. The WiiU attempted to counteract that problem by actually giving customers games, which it had.

Besides MGS4 there will always be a reason to own a Playstation 3, even moreso than PShit 4 and 5. I still use it for Ridge Racer 7, the Mega Man Legends games, Legend of Dragoon, Silent Hill, Chrono Cross, etc. Kutaragi is God.

PS2 compatibility is spotty without a launch model. Plus, the deinterlacing is miserable and adds noticeable input latency unless you're playing at 480i on a CRT. Oh yeah, even 240p games get upscaled to 480i since there's no 240p support, and the up scaling is pretty soft (especially on digital copies for some reason).

Cool concept, but it makes original controllers age more poorly than typical controllers (though not as badly as Dualshock 2s do from my experience). Plus only a smallish window of early DS3s have acceptable build quality; SixAxis controllers and future DS3 revisions were cheap chinesium crap.

The PS2 was incredible value for the money. It was a DVD-player that was affordable that could also double as a gaming device for the kids. For the enthusiast it could also be converted to a Linux desktop on the cheap and it had proper online support if you got a disk drive with an experience that was closer to online PC gaming (without mods) than modern console online gaming. On top of all this it was also backwards compatible with all of your favourite PS1 games, it was incredible value for the money.
Im just gonna go PC+Switch next gen, unless Nintendo also go multiplat
