In this game, the base combo dmg are dog shit and you get substantially more DPS the more creative you are. I even saw an anon posting a webm where he clears faster than that sped up video just by playing well.
In a similar fashion to Bloodborne on high NG+, this game design also punishes you with time for playing like shit. Which is both good and bad at the same time.

One of those clips you linked (against the goblin with the axe) is from the literal tutorial of the game
The other one you linked is from about 20 minutes into chapter one is and one of the first non-tutorial enemies you fight in the game.
In both cases you are severely limited to what your attack options are. The only have 1 of the 12 summons unlocked and only 1 of the 4 main abilities of the summon unlocked at that point in time.
Each summon has 4 unique abilities and combo strings of their own, built on top of the basic sword combos and attacks.
It's good from the start.
There's an entire ranged mechanic that isn't being shown there, and combos/alternate moves that the players in the WEBMs aren't using.
They're literally just mashing attack and occasionally hitting the one ability when it's off cooldown. They're not holding attack to do the enhanced pressure builder attack, they're not throwing the ranged mixups in there where you use a ranged attack for every melee attack, they're literally doing nothing but mashing attack over and over.
You can take quite literally any JRPG and do the same thing. Hell, you can take sekiro or nioh or souls and do the same thing. that doesn't mean those games don't have complex systems, it just means that the fricking tutorial enemies are pissbaby easy and don't require any strategy to destroy.

It didn't have too since as long as the nips were good enough at english they could just buy the AUS version of the game and play on Oceanic servers or if they were techsavy enough they could have played since the US release, no one did though since there were other MMOs that were more popular than WoW in japan like Izanagi online, FFXI, DFO and after 2012, PSO2.
I can't stress how popular PSO2 were when it came out in Japland, that shit was almost at the same level that WoW were culturaly but for nips only and before that XI and DFO had a similar effect mainly because they could either be ran on a console or the potato PCs that the nips loved so much in the early '00s.
Most japs don't know english good enough to play a text heavy game like WoW I'm sure they had a niche fanbase of westaboos over there who were into it but it definately wasn't well known. FFXI was an Everquest clone and well PSO2 isn't a mmo in the truest sense its an instanced lobby game, Japan had no real equivalent to something like WoW until ARR came around and came off like some revolutionary new thing playing off Japan's ignorance having missed out on the biggest MMO of all time.

How? Starting her quest and getting the Fingerslayer Blade is easy. The only obscure part about it is finding her mini-me form because technically you could do the gargoyles before getting the blade and not find her. I got it normally because I went the Fingerslayer Blade path instead of the gargoyle path, so when I returned to the gargoyles like 10+ hours later I found the doll and followed through with the rest of her quest naturally. I completely forgot that gargoyle path was even there until hours later. Finding the doll is the only hard to miss part of the whole questline. She also either tells you or Blaidd's key implies that Rennala is where you find the chest to use the key on, and I managed to forget to go to Hogwarts until later on despite unlocking it somewhat early into Liurnia.

Never played Black Desert so I don't know. All I know is the combat is poor. As are all the major elements of the game. I will enjoy the disappointment that comes along with this game, as many are essentially "conned" into buying it on pure hype.

I know this is a bait but: timely accessories are the easy mode options where it auto-combos, auto-dodges and auto-uses potions so you can only press 1 button and enjoy the story mode which story mode is the mandatory to finish difficulty mode in order to unlock the hardest difficulty...
In FF15's case, it's the default press one button to cool.
In FF16's case, it's your choice...
Basically was a dude pressing the counter button against only a normal enemy, when people who really played the game knows that doing that makes defeating the enemy very slowly ( precise counters do more damage ) and has a risk of being hit, good thing when morons got told about it they stopped posting it.
The demo was very poor in terms of combat (and in other terms too.) But you have said it best, there will be no agreement.
It's up to you to find out which side is dishonest and/or delusional.
A quick rundown: You get basic abilities with square, some square plus triangle. You get your real damage from cooldown abilities that you cycle through (2 on 1 bar, L2 to cycle, 2 on that one, etc.)
Each ability type has 3 moves. Single target damage. AOE damage. And a block/counter (both function pretty much the same.)
You get unlimited iframes with the block, it blocks everything. You can also spam dodge to slow-mo dodge multipart attacks. You can wait on aoe circles and dodge to get free counters. Etc.
In the end, the game comes down to:
1.) Press square (or square plus triangle) until enemy attacks
2.) Dodge with the generous time allotted to you (0.5 seconds or so.)
3.) Counter (all counters are the same.)
4.) When abilities are off cooldown, use them. Even if you are close to a stagger window, it doesn't matter, because you don't have enough time to use every ability in the stagger window. 2-3 abilities will take up the window, and you have 6.
I suppose you do technically save 1 ability type for the window, which is anything that multihits.
More hits = more damage multiplier in the window.
But again this is as simple as pressing a button, and it probably is not even necessary given the fact that you are given random stagger windows via QTEs a s well.
So even if you have a plan, you may miss a stagger window's opportunity for a multi-hit ability because a QTE came since you did X damage or whatever the trigger is.
Counters do more stagger damage, but you can counter with block as well so no, not really.
I guess timing might be something that some people enjoy but it is very generous, too generous for my tastes. The AOE circles make it laughable since you can counter an enemy who is literally flying around.
I think the more you dodge/precise dodge and block/counterhit the more the damage modifier goes up eventually doing more damage but it resets if you get hit, you could weave between dodging and blocking to raise both modifiers and have more variety.
What I was mostly hoping for is mechanical depth in terms of how you can optimize your ability use depending on enemy patterns, picking out the right moves to punish their actions and busting out a big risky hit during larger openings, and maybe being able to do things like extend openings through enemies' damage reactions, stuff like that. Or when fighting enemy groups, having to effectively use your abilities for crowd control. I'm guessing there's nothing like that to be found?
What games DO even offer that if that's what I'm looking for?

There's very little to "build" in the game, as every skill tree is identical. Single target, aoe, counter. Mastery lets you take a skill with a different "loadout". Loadouts give you a different circle skill. If you enjoy this, then you might enjoy it. It is shallow for my tastes, and the kinetic feeling is dull.
Sounds like you should play a souls game. Either 3 or ER for the most varied combat.

I've played them all, I enjoyed DeS and DaS1 for their level designs and treated the combat as secondary but DaS3 and ER go all in on combat without actually making the combat all that fun, From are incredible at enemy moveset design/animation and fight choreography but they give you no enjoyable tools to engage with that because their games are solved by universally applicable offensive and defensive options.

Also Souls games have effectively nonexistent build variety because the games are so mechanically limited that most builds effectively play the same, and I know that's a necessary tradeoff because most games with great build variety have absolutely terrible combat but it makes the choices the game offers you almost meaningless. You get more variety out of, say, choosing which weapon you play in a game like Monster Hunter than you get out of all of Souls.
As for games that supply it, I don't know. I don't play many action games because they are generally shallow as this one is. A low bar to achieve "mastery".

Of course you can, you can do it in just about every action game. But with games like Bayo and DMC the objective is style and chaining combos which isn't really a thing in 16.
Tales is more enjoyable in terms of characters (generally, I haven't played all the Tales games.)
Also Tales will give you more light-hearted moments etc. Much harder fights if you take highest difficulty as well. (You will end up abusing the systems however, this is simply how the games always end up on highest difficulty.)

I heavily dislike the stagger mechanic that was introduced in Final Fantasy 13. I don't believe it was particularly satisfying in the 13 games, I don't believe it's good in FF7R, and I don't believe it's good in FF16 either.
It's like wailing on an enemy with little pathetic attacks for a long time before you're allowed to hit them with any considerable damage at all. I think as far as gameplay is concerned, this game mechanic should have been shelved away a long time ago. If you really like this mechanic, tell me why. Because I don't get it, I think it feels like shit.

I played the demo a few hours from bedtime and unironically almost fell asleep. The story and music were pretty cool but the gameplay was atrociously dated.
It's sad that TotK has better combat than a game focused entirely around it, here the player takes actual damage (though it's a shrine mind you) and has to watch his positioning, in all the FF webms I see the player just mash, use his abilities as soon as the cooldown is over, dodge heavily telegraphed attacks, mash even harder when the enemy is staggered.

In a similar fashion to Bloodborne on high NG+, this game design also punishes you with time for playing like shit. Which is both good and bad at the same time.

One of those clips you linked (against the goblin with the axe) is from the literal tutorial of the game
The other one you linked is from about 20 minutes into chapter one is and one of the first non-tutorial enemies you fight in the game.
In both cases you are severely limited to what your attack options are. The only have 1 of the 12 summons unlocked and only 1 of the 4 main abilities of the summon unlocked at that point in time.
Each summon has 4 unique abilities and combo strings of their own, built on top of the basic sword combos and attacks.

There's an entire ranged mechanic that isn't being shown there, and combos/alternate moves that the players in the WEBMs aren't using.
They're literally just mashing attack and occasionally hitting the one ability when it's off cooldown. They're not holding attack to do the enhanced pressure builder attack, they're not throwing the ranged mixups in there where you use a ranged attack for every melee attack, they're literally doing nothing but mashing attack over and over.
You can take quite literally any JRPG and do the same thing. Hell, you can take sekiro or nioh or souls and do the same thing. that doesn't mean those games don't have complex systems, it just means that the fricking tutorial enemies are pissbaby easy and don't require any strategy to destroy.

How? Starting her quest and getting the Fingerslayer Blade is easy. The only obscure part about it is finding her mini-me form because technically you could do the gargoyles before getting the blade and not find her. I got it normally because I went the Fingerslayer Blade path instead of the gargoyle path, so when I returned to the gargoyles like 10+ hours later I found the doll and followed through with the rest of her quest naturally. I completely forgot that gargoyle path was even there until hours later. Finding the doll is the only hard to miss part of the whole questline. She also either tells you or Blaidd's key implies that Rennala is where you find the chest to use the key on, and I managed to forget to go to Hogwarts until later on despite unlocking it somewhat early into Liurnia.
If you equip all five, you get dsp difficulty.

I know this is a bait but: timely accessories are the easy mode options where it auto-combos, auto-dodges and auto-uses potions so you can only press 1 button and enjoy the story mode which story mode is the mandatory to finish difficulty mode in order to unlock the hardest difficulty...
In FF15's case, it's the default press one button to cool.

The demo was very poor in terms of combat (and in other terms too.) But you have said it best, there will be no agreement.
It's up to you to find out which side is dishonest and/or delusional.
A quick rundown: You get basic abilities with square, some square plus triangle. You get your real damage from cooldown abilities that you cycle through (2 on 1 bar, L2 to cycle, 2 on that one, etc.)
Each ability type has 3 moves. Single target damage. AOE damage. And a block/counter (both function pretty much the same.)
You get unlimited iframes with the block, it blocks everything. You can also spam dodge to slow-mo dodge multipart attacks. You can wait on aoe circles and dodge to get free counters. Etc.
In the end, the game comes down to:
1.) Press square (or square plus triangle) until enemy attacks
2.) Dodge with the generous time allotted to you (0.5 seconds or so.)
3.) Counter (all counters are the same.)
4.) When abilities are off cooldown, use them. Even if you are close to a stagger window, it doesn't matter, because you don't have enough time to use every ability in the stagger window. 2-3 abilities will take up the window, and you have 6.
I suppose you do technically save 1 ability type for the window, which is anything that multihits.
More hits = more damage multiplier in the window.
But again this is as simple as pressing a button, and it probably is not even necessary given the fact that you are given random stagger windows via QTEs a s well.
So even if you have a plan, you may miss a stagger window's opportunity for a multi-hit ability because a QTE came since you did X damage or whatever the trigger is.

Counters do more stagger damage, but you can counter with block as well so no, not really.
I guess timing might be something that some people enjoy but it is very generous, too generous for my tastes. The AOE circles make it laughable since you can counter an enemy who is literally flying around.
I think the more you dodge/precise dodge and block/counterhit the more the damage modifier goes up eventually doing more damage but it resets if you get hit, you could weave between dodging and blocking to raise both modifiers and have more variety.
What I was mostly hoping for is mechanical depth in terms of how you can optimize your ability use depending on enemy patterns, picking out the right moves to punish their actions and busting out a big risky hit during larger openings, and maybe being able to do things like extend openings through enemies' damage reactions, stuff like that. Or when fighting enemy groups, having to effectively use your abilities for crowd control. I'm guessing there's nothing like that to be found?

Oh. No anon I'm sorry. Mobs are easily melted with 1 aoe ability and an attack or two.
There's very little to "build" in the game, as every skill tree is identical. Single target, aoe, counter. Mastery lets you take a skill with a different "loadout". Loadouts give you a different circle skill. If you enjoy this, then you might enjoy it. It is shallow for my tastes, and the kinetic feeling is dull.

Probably just play CS 1.6 or something else that is PVP. No one can code sufficient challenges without destroying 99% of the audience.
Sounds like you should play a souls game. Either 3 or ER for the most varied combat.
I've played them all, I enjoyed DeS and DaS1 for their level designs and treated the combat as secondary but DaS3 and ER go all in on combat without actually making the combat all that fun, From are incredible at enemy moveset design/animation and fight choreography but they give you no enjoyable tools to engage with that because their games are solved by universally applicable offensive and defensive options.
Kiseki games on nightmare (Crossbell especially) will give you interesting challenges if you do not mind turn-based games.
Also Souls games have effectively nonexistent build variety because the games are so mechanically limited that most builds effectively play the same, and I know that's a necessary tradeoff because most games with great build variety have absolutely terrible combat but it makes the choices the game offers you almost meaningless. You get more variety out of, say, choosing which weapon you play in a game like Monster Hunter than you get out of all of Souls.
As for games that supply it, I don't know. I don't play many action games because they are generally shallow as this one is. A low bar to achieve "mastery".

Of course you can, you can do it in just about every action game. But with games like Bayo and DMC the objective is style and chaining combos which isn't really a thing in 16.
For basic mobs after you leveled up enough, sure.

Tales is more enjoyable in terms of characters (generally, I haven't played all the Tales games.)
Also Tales will give you more light-hearted moments etc. Much harder fights if you take highest difficulty as well. (You will end up abusing the systems however, this is simply how the games always end up on highest difficulty.)

I heavily dislike the stagger mechanic that was introduced in Final Fantasy 13. I don't believe it was particularly satisfying in the 13 games, I don't believe it's good in FF7R, and I don't believe it's good in FF16 either.
It's like wailing on an enemy with little pathetic attacks for a long time before you're allowed to hit them with any considerable damage at all. I think as far as gameplay is concerned, this game mechanic should have been shelved away a long time ago. If you really like this mechanic, tell me why. Because I don't get it, I think it feels like shit.

Stagger is fine on bosses, fricking moronic on normal trash mobs. Also the way FF7R did it where basically every boss would trigger their bullshit cutscene transition just as you would stagger them was equally fricking moronic.
in FF13 it wasnt a bad mechanic because you actively build towards it and when you get the stagger you get to cash in hard if you know how to.
its what made the games paradigm system shine. you could tinker with the job setups you have to make multiple sets for varying phases of the fight. big downside of FF13 was just that there werent many encounters who truly pushed you to get the most out of the system.
I dont think the same system works everywhere else. I absolutely cant imagine it being cool in a full action game. Mechanic shouldve just stayed with FF13.

It's perfectly serviceable storytelling, and occasionally about as good as you're going to find in the genre.
It generally means "The story expected me to pay attention to the plot elements and writing to piece together the conclusions, and didn't walk me through a basic hero's journey like my favourite Marvel movies."

It's not like your average jap game is any better. 4 homies in a row and spamming buff, debuff, best attack for 100 hours is peak japslop. The only games worth playing from Japan are action games like DMC or Nioh and Resident Evil. Maybe Monster Hunter, but only because of fun with friends in coop. It's sad that TotK has better combat than a game focused entirely around it, here the player takes actual damage (though it's a shrine mind you) and has to watch his positioning, in all the FF webms I see the player just mash, use his abilities as soon as the cooldown is over, dodge heavily telegraphed attacks, mash even harder when the enemy is staggered.

Ryota Suzuki is the second-to-last credited Gameplay Designer on a list of 16 for DMC5. FFgays started calling him the director of combat purely to hype up this game.
