He was involved in the same insider trading scheme that Square Enix executives are involved in, and was set up to fail so that Square Enix didn't have to continue to pay his wages but got access and ownership of several of his properties and assets. Japanese prison is very VERY bad - There is no equivalent to cushy American maximum security prisons. However, he won't be going to prison. He received a stayed sentence and is essentially free, but unhireable. In the business community it's pretty well understood that this was punishment for Balan Wonderland failing so spectacularly. Many large companies in Japan will implicate or involve their employees in white-collar crime in order to blackmail them later. However, I suspect Naka involved himself of his own volition, greed, and ambition and that was used against him like he knew it would be.
frick you Black folk, Balan has SOVL. something most modern games completely lack. yeah it wasn't 10/10, but it also wasn't the 2/10 everyone treats it as. stop getting your opinions from e-celebs and twitter.
Its Japanese prison, its fairly nice. Its like a neet in a nice apartment for 2 years.
Really, how do you know about the apartment? and what did he do that made him go to prison

I get that they won't have to pay him once he's in jail, but how does that give the company his personal IP?

If the game was made with zero involvement of yuji naka it could've actually been good
Suspended sentence. No jail time. Just a fine.
Hope he gets to work on Balan Wonderworld 2 while inside.
Imagine if all the Sonic games were fricking amazing all of a sudden
