apparently regionals work the exact same way you'd expect them to, the fanfic shit is just an aid for what's the default for 90% of biomes.
OP pic is genius because they're subtle and make it more apparent on how to get a specific niche form without needing to be in an incredibly specific region to trigger the branch. It's not like they're creating an entirely new poke or form.
