I'd play it if it has max payne 3's gunplay and is patched for modern systems. Even with MP3's very good gunplay it will remove a lot of the soul. Update the graphics and you instantly remove all soul.
It's a really weird case. On the other hand, Remedy is a dev that was working under Microsoft for the longest time, but that's over now. That means they're no longer bound by the rules of the modern triple A industry, but also that they no longer have the resources for something like it. While they have more money than back in MP1 days, it's still a curious situation.
Another major thing to consider that Max Payne has actuallly never been a popular world-wide hit. The franchise maintains a decent fanbase to this day, but it's never been CODGTAFIFA-level or anything close. And then you have to consider that about half of that fanbase exists because of MP3.
So the safest bet for them would be to appeal to the MP3-loving audience, since there's a lot of overlap with the fans of the originals anyway. But another thing to consider is that Sam Lake has always been a post-modern subversive gaylord in his writing, so expect story twists in the vein of FF7 Remake combined with MCU p4.
Rockstar/Take Two are the ones that own the IP and they agreed to fund these remakes. Remedy has pretty much infinite money for them.

i played it after playing max payne 3 and thought they were of equal quality. both great but mostly you hear how 2 is somehow way better and i didn't feel that, i went in completely unbiased.

The plot feels phoned in, the levels aren't as cool and playing as someone else, let alone a chick, who can do the exact same shit as Max kinda diminishes him inadvertently. It's just really not as good as 1, and feels like half as long too.
I vastly prefer the setting of the blizzard covered city in 1. Sam Lake is just a better Max despite new Max looking like a more serious actor. The humor feels more forced in 2 (a fricking mascot escort mission, a soap opera funhouse?), whereas it was inadvertent in 1 with "constipated Max" faces or goofy exaggerated comic panels. A serious story but with people just clearly having fun making it.
I don't think we'll ever see anything quite like Max Payne 1 ever again.

Agreed. I much prefer 1's dark and apocalyptic atmosphere with all the allusions to norse mythology. It feels like NY is falling apart around you or something. 2 tones down a lot of that gothic stuff to be much more conventionally noir and goofy.

The story fricking sucks compared to 1, it has reused and bland levels, annoying shit like the baseballc**t escort section, awful funhouse level twice, and is super short

I hope they don't ruin it by copying 3. 3 is braindead dogshit with half the mechanics stripped out and replaced by utterly moronic turret sections and QTE gameplay. the bullets travel so fast that having bullet physics doesn't impact the gameplay or your aim at all. leading targets doesn't matter, max's momentum doesn't matter, and if you get a headshot the weapon magically becomes 100% accurate hitscan anyway. in 1 you'd sometimes aim for center-mass because doing so made the most sense, and you were expected to fire more than 1 shot because it was meant to be a chaotic john woo experience, but in 3 there's zero reason not to aim for the head at all times because the game has a built-in easy mode mechanic for zoomers who can't handle actual gunplay and need X-marks the spot COD headshots.
i’m hoping if these remakes are successful it will lead to the development of the gta 4 and rdr remasters that were canned after the GTA trilogy “remake”
