It's really weird to think about how small the maps in Pokemon games are while having their own music theme. GameFreak have always been hacks

MASUDAAAAA
Woah, is that a remake of Santalune Forest? Neat!
>remake
>doesn't improve on anything
Sounds like GameFreak yes
its the first dungeon psycho
it feels longer because of how many wild encounters you'll fight from walking through large patches of tall grass, and the time spent walking to ground items
Between the high random encounter rate every two steps (and the fact that you most likely don't have any Repels yet), the trainer battles, and the fact that you can only see a small portion of the map on your screen at any given time, it's relatively easy for a 10-year-old kid (the game's target audience) to get turned around and end up spending quite a bit of time in there, especially if it's the 90's, this is the first time you're playing the game, and you don't have access to the internet to get a walkthrough of the area or an image of the full map (unless you were lucky enough to have one in your physical issue of Game Informer or Nintendo Power magazine, of course). It could also take even longer if you're one of the kids 'in the know' and hunting for an elusive Pikachu.
Now, getting lost in here as a 30-something year old man with full internet access after your 50th playthrough, on the other hand, would just be pathetic. Luckily you're not GameFreak's intended audience.
I was 5 or 4 and i remember getting lost a few times in that forest on the left side of the map
They should have reused Viridian Forest's music for Seafoam Islands.
They did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEdsij76NtY
What should they have done instead? The area needs different music to set itself apart from Route 2 as the first dungeon of the game (and, for many of its original players, their entire lives), and it needs to be small enough that first-time players won't feel overwhelmed by it. You could theoretically reuse Mt. Moon's theme, but that would take away that area's impact as both the game's first multi-floor dungeon and the player's introduction to Team Rocket.
I mean, have you played SwSh?
Route 1 theme is such a banger and it's a literal hallway.
>every route gets its own music, no matter how small, attention to detail and devotion to gamefeel takes priority over workflow when it comes to the soundtrack
>THIS IS A BAD THING, ACTUALLY. GF ARE HACKS!!!
No, it means the composer GF hired is good and out of sync with the rest of the lazy ass devs, which wouldn't be happening if they weren't hacks
The director and the composer are the same person anon. In Gen 3 when the original creators quit they literally just took the composer and told him he was in charge now
Whoa, so you're saying they put an unqualified moron who's only good at one aspect of the game dev process in charge of the whole team? It's almost like they're...hm there's a word for it but its on the tip of my tongue...rhymes with the sound you make when you tie a noose around your neck
Oh fricking cope already. If you're at the point that even good things about the game mean it's shit, you're a literal schizo.
>small location gets own music and that's bad because... IT JUST IS
What the frick? A Game Boy game has areas that are really small?
I-IS THAT--
S-SANTALOOOOOONNNEEEEE OOOOOHHHHHH
>It's really weird to think about how small the maps in Pokemon games are while having their own music theme.
It fits given how short the track is. It would be embarrassing if later on as the series progressed, the areas got much bigger, yet the track length stayed the same, making the track repetitively annoying as you play. Even more embarrassing if there's no radio on the player character's device to change the music if the player wanted something different.
It's the first dungeon and it usually takes me like 15-20 min to get through, with is perfect.
