I recently completed all of them on emulator, do yourself a favour and remap the looking and moving controls to the analogs of your controller. I also bound a key for speeding the game up slightly for the long sections of backtracking I ended up having to do.
Helped a tonne for enjoying the game somewhat.

Your controls are SHIT. Played kingsfield and shadow tower multiple times on keyboard as well as a few armored cores.
Arrow keys
Shift X
Z square
X O
C Triangle
A strafe left
S strafe right
Q look up
W look down
Adjust the ingame config so square attacks and O or triangle is spell. KF1 has weird button assignment but this works super well in KF2 3 4 and especially shadow tower where theres holding a button to weapon set switch or shoot 2 different spells.
Tank controls work GREAT on keyboard, if you play these with an analog stick then you are terminally moronic

i made it to the 2nd floor by brute forcing through the arrows and a bunch of healing items and then lost my save because my memory cards were not configured or something

Just use save states, kf1 has a fricked save system and 1 save takes 5 blocks. I have no idea why
