It's short and style over substance but it really does have amazing style and makes for a great time to just turn your brain off and blast/mash away.
On harder difficulties you do have to worry about positioning and managing your meter carefully. Even though on Kick-Ass you can get one-shot by bosses it doesn't feel too cheap because they're still easy enough to beat.
Was probably a great rental back in the day.
It's short and simple by design. It was literally made so drunk salarymen could play it when they get home.
That's cool, nowadays those guys are stuck playing pachinko
Agreed. Surprised that there isn't more demand for simple games like this that aren't pachinko or predatory mobile games.
Gambling is the weakness of the people of that region of the world so every shitty developer has taken advantage of it with pachinko and gacha shit.
>drunk salarymen
Quite Literally me, gonna download it to play it after work
>It was literally made so drunk salarymen could play it when they get home.
What other games suit this description?
Incredible Crisis
Play, but not get good at. Getting good at the game shows how clever it is.
Game has some great music
I actually got a special kill animation when fighting this guy when I finished him with a demolition shot.
in the end we never had a good gungrave game. also i refuse to play these games on harder difficulties because i hate when i have to fight against the jank gameplay instead of the enemies themselves. like first post said it's truly a drunk salarymen vidya.
you just have to get over your ego and practice
>jank
>Gungrave thread
Finally, someone with actual class & taste.
Style is substance
>play Overdose
>enjoyed it despite the flaws
>find out everyone online hates it
feels bad
Still bitter about OD. Everything about it I disliked, from the musically silent levels, to the low-res textures, to the level design, to the dub, to the font used for the text, even to how the unlock requirements were so drawn out and tedious. I had a PAL copy at the time so I couldn't work out whether they implemented the Japanese unlock methods or the American unlock methods. Either way, I didn't want to play and find out. Still love the original game though, can't fault it.
I'm just trying Overdose. While it does take a big hit in presentation (framerate, cutscenes, textures) the gameplay does seem a faster overall and encourages you to use more of your moves.
There's definitely some good in it, but in the time I spent playing each of the three characters, the bad outweighed the good. I may also just have frustration muscle memory of some of those 'tank' enemies causing me constant stun lock and throwing me into walls.
Yeah, it doesn't seem to be popular, but that's why I'm hoping I will still find the new VR game enjoyable despite its negative reception as it was with the other games.
It's a shame that Trigun game was never made
Gungrave is basically that though.
Good anime, dog shit game.
Gay homosexual.
Playing Overdose a bit more, the lack of music during the action is really jarring.
Also, I fear this boss.
